Ginger Cafe has a mix of different Asian dishes. The restaurant has pad thai, spring rolls, dim sum, and more! I think it's one of the fancier dining places at Gilroy Outlets... I got the Chili Chicken lunch special (chicken, fried rice, and soup of the day). The corn soup I got had basically no flavor. It was really watery and I had to add soy sauce to give it some taste. On the other hand, the chicken was bursting with flavor. It was too spicy for my tongue and difficult to eat. The chicken was nice and crispy though...it reminded me of Panda Express. I've been here a couple of years ago and I remember it being really great. Revisited the place and I felt that it went a little down hill. The menu also seemed to change from before. It's possible the management or something changed. The service is great but I just wasn't a fan of the food anymore. We had a dim sum appetizer and it was OK. Had some vegetable dish that I barely ate. Just very bland food over all. Seemed more americanized and boring. Basically the authenticity was lacking. They took out the curry dishes from last time that were actually superb... that's too bad. Paid a lot of money for food that I didn't even like. It was definitely a 3 star back in the day. I only wanted to come here because they advertised having dim sum all day. We came here for dinner and we ordered the Siu Mai, Ha Gao, Crispy Shrimp thing, and Chicken Curry. The dim sum was adequate to satisfy my cravings, but the Chicken Curry was just not up to par. The chicken was sliced really thin, it didn't even look like chicken. I ended up crossing my legs and brush my legs on top (of the underside) of the table and got a FAT splinter I couldn't take out without assistance of a threading needle. So yeah. Come during happy hour (3-6PM) for discounted dim sum and rice plates. Definitely try the har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) -- which come out super fresh/hot and tasty. I was doing some shopping at the Gilroy Outlets, saw an ad for this place and it looked good. The concept is quasi- Asian fusion, it's more like some Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc on the same menu. While the selection was good, it was very disappointing. We order from the regular and the dim sum menu. Just about everything was decent, but fell flat. The tempura sushi roll was warm, mushy, sticky rice w/ a panko (not tempura) shrimp and lettuce. The peking duck was served w/ moshu wrappers instead of the buns and was just roast duck cut into strips. The duck by itself was not bad, though it lacked the traditional spice rub. The custard bun, in a cute little rodent shape, was not really a bun, more of a hard donut. The filling was good. The sticky rice in lotus leaf was good, but lacked the usually goodies to rice ratio. It could be that I was expecting to much from an Asian place in Gilroy, but I was very disappointed. Though you would think the large amount of people from San Jose/Mountain View that flock there for discount designer wares would lead to a decent Asian eatery. After a "memorable" visit to Gilroy's #1 restaurant, we finally found a restaurant that looked clean and well managed, and was still open. That was 10min before 9pm, we were told we could only order takeout, no eat-in. We ordered string beans with chicken and Sauteed Vegetable De Asia. I love the potsitickers and porkbuns! But everything I have had here has been very good and I think my partner and I consider this the best Chinese restaurant in Gilroy, if not the bay area. The service has always been fast and professional. The bathroom could stand a little attnetion to cleaning as I was a about to give them half star reduction for cold bathrooms and not as clean as I would like. I hope they read this and get someone on this, as it would be the best of the bay for me if that small detail was attended to, one more thing the forutne cookies are a generic brand, could improve here...but they are free. read more

A go to for any Chinese dish I've ever craved. A large variety of options with some Thai and Vietnamese twists. The foods served are always hot, fresh and HUGE plates. We come to this place about twice a years. The service are acceptable in general. This last time the food is way too salty, sweet and greasy. We usually order a bit less so that we don't waste food. However it's so salty and sweet that we couldn't even finish them. I love stopping by Ginger cafe for a late lunch during their happy hour! My go-to dish is their tofu or chicken basil over steamed rice. I looove the perfectly-cooked chicken or tofu, basil, and several different kinds of sliced mushrooms in the velvety sauce. I especially love to mix in some of their hot pepper sauce on the side for a little kick. After a day of shopping at the outlets, we were ready for a cocktail and a meal. the Ginger Cafe was advertised in the outlet map, and we figured why not (considering the location was within the outlets, and the freeway was easy access). We started with Longantini's and Lemon Drops and have to say that they were very good, and priced reasonably. For appitizers, we started with a few dim sum items: 1. Blue crab dumplings were very tasty and were my favorite of what we tried. 2. Lobster dumplings which were okay, but were a little over powered by the other ingredients. 3. Taro shrimp cake, was good. For dinner, we shared a soft shell crab salad, which was huge. The salad was different from what I have ever tried. On a bed of chow fun, covered with lettuce, and mounds of soft shell crab (hints of cilantro and mint) , this was a meal within itself. They do have happy hour and it was worth to order something from it. I started with the dim sum platter it had assorted dim sum to share enough for four people! All good! Especially the pork steam bun. I ordered Chinese chicken salad. It was great, dressing wasn't tangy enough for me. The water from the ice berg watered it down I think. We ordered lamb steak with buns. It was delicious!!! Must try. It was done right because the bun was sweet light fluffy and the lamb was not chewy. We ordered fried rice in a hot pot with Chinese sausage chicken and veggies in it. It was alright, should have stuck with steam white I think. We ordered pecking duck. It came with little tortilla looking bread too and everything was yummy. No dessert well... I didn't see it on there but I was too stuffed anyway! I do recommend the spot if you're looking for Chinese food! I don't think the price is fair though but it seems like it is catering for more mainstream than anything but I still think their food is yummy and clean and flavorful. Great place! I am definitely a fan of this place. I ate here for the first time about a month ago. We took the kids for an early dinner. The staff was very friendly and nice to the kids as well. We ordered coconut soup, chili chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, dim-sum, and something else (cant remember). All of the food was very well prepared and delicious. For the amount of food that we got it was reasonably priced, but not cheap. Went again last week and ordered some different items. I have been here a total of three times. First time, had the Dim-Sum sampler. Well worth your money if you haven't tried dim-sum. I know of no other restaurant in this area that makes dim-sum. Second Time: had a Ginger Chicken dish that was a bit too sweet. Parents are diabetic and after a couple of bites they didn't touch this dish for the rest of the meal. Bleh. Third Time: had the egg-roll salad and the bok choy dumplings. Salad was swimming in dressing, it should've been tossed and strained and the bok choy dumpling had a VERY sticky feel to it. Meh. Price range it's a bit much. I get the feel like they try to fuse chic with cheap. So far it's passing, but just by a smidgen. Interior: very nice! Love the Bar, the decor and the bathrooms. Customer Service: very friendly and reliable. They will let you know if anything comes up with your order--like certain dim sums taking "a bit longer" or certain fishes cooked to order. Sadly, there was a time when this place was 5 stars for me. I used to live in Gilroy, and this place was the place for chinese food in town. However, something changed. I used to always order orange chicken or beef and broccoli, even sweet and sour pork and it's alll been great. I LOVED their fried rice....but alas no more :[ The last 3 or so visits have been AWFUL. I could not finish the sweet and sour pork, and broccoli bland, the beef chewy, the orange chicken unedible and the rice lacked any flavor it used to have. No idea what happened to this place. Only two stars for this place. Walking around the outlet, I kept seeing the signs for Ginger Cafe with the Peking duck looking oh so delicious. Decided to give this place a shot. Walked in and was shortly greeted by someone, place looks nice and modern. Took our seats and was greeted with some water. We ordered the peking duck and blue crab rolls. Traditional peking duck comes with the steam buns and this place gives tortillas instead of the buns so I politely asked for the buns instead. Took about 10 mins for our duck to come out and presentation wise, it looked delicious. Dove right into the buns and they were super dry! Next the duck, of course the duck was super dry too. Seemed like the duck was old and majority of duck was dried out. with no meat. Next, the rolls came out, didnt know they served peanut sauce with it so I told the server my daughter is allergic to peanuts, he gladly took it back and came back a few minutes later to let us know the peanuts are cooked in the same oil as the crab so we asked them to cancel the rolls. Tried to finish whatever we could of the duck and asked for the bill. Noticed they charged us $5 for the steam buns!!! I let the waiter know we weren't notified of the extra charge for the substitution and they wouldn't budge. Cant believe they would charge extra for steamed buns that's supposed to be part of the peking duck! Especially if I paid $42 for it. Who eats tortillas with peking duck?!?! read more

I really enjoy their chicken fried rice, the orange chicken, and the shrimp dumplings (even though the order only has 4 lol). We recently ordered dinner from here and everything was very delicious and full of flavor! I have eaten quite a bit of Chinese food growing up and often it is either too bland, too salty, or the vegetables are not cooked right. We had Mongolian Beef, String Bean Chicken, pork fried rice, veggie chow fun, and pot stickers and ALL were delicious. We had 4 adults and there were plenty of leftovers.
