My name is Michael Avila and this past Saturday I went to Gimre's Shoe Store in Astoria, Oregon. Although I began with one person initially, I ultimately worked with another staff person whose name is Nikki. I had come to Gimre's with a very specific issue relating to a style of New Balance shoe I wished to purchase. Nikki was gracious and friendly and her knowledge of shoes is clearly extensive. When Nikki discovered the item I wanted to purchase had been discontinued, she knew where to look to see if there were other options to consider. After looked at some other possibilities, she helped me find another style, within the New Balance brand, that actually ended up being the perfect shoe for my particular needs. Thank you Gimre's for being a resource in Astoria, Oregon, and a big thank you Nikki for all of her efforts and taking the time necessary to help me find an even better pair of shoes than the ones I thought I would buy that day. read more

We visited Gimre's as we were excited to see a Gimre's' on our recent visit to Astoria. We have visited the Gimre's in Hillsboro and are always made to feel welcome. My friend is a customer there. This was the opposite at this store. After being passed off to the manager by a sales associate, she asked us if "we were there to buy shoes". Is this store a front for something else? What did she think we were in there for? I felt like we had to apologize for walking into the store. We were made to feel as if we were bothering them. Perhaps the employees could be taught to act happy or glad that we walked in. Perhaps they could engage in friendly conversation with customers. Suggest something! This could and should start with the manager. Who knows, with a little different attitude by these store employees, we might have bought something in this store. I visited today because I forgot my tennis shoes at home while taking a trip to the beach. All of the women working were friendly and helpful. I got to try on several pairs. There was a wide variety. My husband was also able to find a pair in size 14, which doesn't often happen. The prices were comparable to what I found online and this was better in my mind because I didn't have to deal with returns and all the hassle of shipping because I found the perfect pair for me. It was especially helpful because getting a men's shoe actually worked out well which I wouldn't have thought of if I was online shopping. This shows the benefit of going in person and getting help to get good quality shoes. I definitely recommend if you need to get shoes. read more

I haven't been into Gimres in a long time and was delighted to see that it's still the same great place. Service was lovely from the 2 ladies that helped me. I unfortunately did witness some hostile behavior from a customer. She yelled at one of the gals as she was leaving. Very unwarranted. Shame! The employee handled it quite well and I hope they don't deal with that on a regular basis. Keep being you Gimres! read more

The quality is excellent! The service is very, very good and I bought a shoes there which I normally do not buy shoes when I'm visiting a city outside of where I live. That's the amount of trust that I had in my selection and the sales person's help. What a nice little store! The saleswomen were knowledgeable and engaging. I was wearing sandals, so they provided socks so I could try on sneakers. A locally-owned retailer, in the business of helping you walk around in comfortable shoes. Anyone who shops here is fortunate and probably got the best shoes for their needs. The same cannot be said for virtually every pair of shoes I've ever bought online. The carbon footprint of buying and returning shoes from online retailers was getting old, so I opted to pop in here on a cruise ship stop a while back. I found the perfect shoes for me, and still wear them to this day. Much better carbon footprint buying the right shoes the first time. Thank you, Gimre's! read more

Add that it's a third generation family business, offering excellent friendly service, a good selection of men's and women's shoes, open weekends. I have been going to Gimre's since I was a child, when my mom bought my ballet slippers there. Upon entering the store, someone always comes up and asks if you need help. The sales people are always very nice and make you feel at home. One of my favorite things about Gimre's is that they keep track of the shoes you buy in their computer system. If you have a problem with a pair of shoes you bought, or just need to look up a special order, they can access it easily and efficiently. I have had a few problems with some defective shoes. They replaced the shoes with store credit, no problems, no questions asked. They really do a good job here and give really personal service. I hope that Gimre's is around for a long time to come! read more

First, I've been shopping here for Forty years. The same owner and the same business model! The staff at Gimre's is proud to work there. They show it every time you walk thru the door. They have a great selection of footwear but if they don't have what you have in mind simply ask. They will find it buy it and get in for you! I honestly know of no other retailer with the exception of Englund Marine that goes out of there way to make you feel like a guest. We are so lucky to have this business in our community. Many of my out of town friends insist on going to Gimre's just for the experience. Yet another super experience at Gimre's ! I've been looking for a pair of slip on casual shoes like my all time favorites from Keen but making them. Peter Gimre All around good guy and foot wear expert has been on the hunt for over s year! Yesterday the call I have been waiting for he located another brand that is a close match to my Keen footwear. This was not a five minute job. I am grateful that he would care enough to spend all that time talking to reps and browsing the Internet to fill a order. Stopped by Gimre's the other day to check out the latest shoes and walked out with a pair of EL NATURALISTA clogs. OMG... they are the most comfortable shoes I have EVER owned. Awesome shoe store! Great service, great selection of Northwest-hardy shoes (Keens, Merrills, Docs, Blundstones, Crocs for work, etc.) with the old school touch of actually helping you get your shoes on rather than just handing you a box and walking away like most places do these days. Replaced my work shoes today and got lots of ideas for my next purchase as did my wife. Best of all is the guy there really knows about the brands - when my wife commented that her black Keens were great but the gray ones were too small even though they were the same size, he knew about Keen's decision to change something along the way in manufacturing that led to those problems, how cool is that! Looking forward to our next trip in. Side note - while this is Astoria, would be cool to have a wee bit more of a selection of dress shoes as that part was pretty sparse (or perhaps a couple times a year feature them?). This is such a fun little shoe store in Astoria. For whatever reason we always seem to need something when we're passing through, and inevitably they have it, for cheap and always offer service with a smile. While these days I have to admit to buying the bulk of my foot ware on line, I think it's so important to patronize small local foot ware places, so this ones getting the full 5 stars for selection, AWESOME customer service and decent prices.
