I stopped in at the Gilmanton Pub for dinner very recently, which is located in a small town between the Lakes Region and the Seacoast of New Hampshire. Aka The Temperance Tavern, the Gilmanton Pub has that old style New England country inn atmosphere set in an old house with lots of framed historic pictures and decorations on the walls and dining areas in the main pub area, and smaller more intimate dining rooms with fireplaces and comfortable chairs. There is also background music playing from Music Choice on TVs with Pop Country music in the pub area and Classical music in the smaller room. Anyways, they are open for dinner Wed-Sun from 5pm to 10pm and now open for lunch on Saturdays at 11am with limited selections from the dinner menu. As for the food, they offer a selection of appetizers (meatballs, dips, nachos, wings, cheese & fruit platter, charcuterie board, bruschetta), salads, lots of pasta dishes (ravioli dishes, pappardelle, rice, gluten free ziti), and dessert (gelato, brownie, apple pie, cheesecake). Gluten free options are available for some of the dishes. The prices here are a bit high for what you get, most food items $10-$24 range and desserts $7-$9. They also have a beverage menu of red wines, white wines, cocktails, bottled beers, craft beers, and non-alcoholic drinks. I stopped in after they just opened for the evening and sat in the pub area. It was not too busy and I was served promptly. I was given ice water and a blue glass bottle at the table to refill my glass when needed. I ate light and ordered the Louisiana Gumbo ($18) with a Side Salad ($7). The side salad came out first when was a chopped salad with fresh greens, carrots, peppers, vipe ripe tomatoes, and thick bleu cheese dressing on the side. The Gumbo dish was served in a small bowl with on top of firm cooked pappadelle pasta, which had a mix of chicken, andoulle sausage and vegetables, served with a very small piece of bread. This dish was okay, which was not spicy and a bit bland tasting. I finished this dish quickly and passed on the offer for dessert since I was heading over to a bar in the Lakes Region for more food later on. The check before tip was $27.25. The food was decent and pricey for what I received overall and the service was efficient. PARKING is a bit tight along the south side of the building, angle parking in.

Tilton House of Pizza - Buffalo Wings

Tilton House of Pizza

This ties with Barro's in Scottsdale, AZ as my favorite pizza I have ever eaten in my life…read more Absolutely delicious. Perfect dough. Great ambiance in the restaurant. Ample parking in the lot next door and across the street. It took a little longer than I anticipated for the order to come out, but that's OK. We were enjoying the vibe. I had leftovers three days later, and the slices held up well. Highly recommend. Go out of your way to go here!

This is the best pizza (that I've had, anyways ...) in New Hampshire. It makes all the 'best of'…read morelists and news articles ... not because it is totally amazing pizza, but because it's always consistent and very good. The staff is also well-trained and friendly. I made a mistake in ordering the other day, I figured might help you. Normally I get a plain cheese, or pepperoni pizza. Simple and perfect every time. Great cheese to sauce ratio ... cheese that extends all the way to the crust ... and the sauce is not that overly sugary cheap crap a lot of Greek-style pizza joints use. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken the other day, which was a huge (and expensive) disappointment. None of us liked it ... it was dry, bland and salty at the same time ... and just not what we would expect from Tilton House of Pizza. There were 3 guys eating a large pizza (which is hearty and large!) and there was leftover, which nobody wanted to take. (unheard of!) The problem seems to be that this pizza is dried out chicken tenders (in fairness, you get a LOT of dried out chicken tenders) which are brushed with buffalo sauce. The pizza itself has no tomato sauce on it!! No blue cheese dressing, as far as we could tell. It was simply cheese, cut up chicken tenders and crust. Zero taste, except for the salt. They give you an average cup of RANCH??? dressing for dipping, which indicates that they know there is an issue with this pizza. I refuse to give anything lower than 4 stars to this place ... because the cheese and pepperoni, I know are amazing. However, I'd say that it was wasted calories to eat this pizza as the Buffalo Chicken recipe needs reworking. The tomato sauce is essential ... or at least tomato sauce mixed with buffalo sauce, or even blue cheese. I will still go 20 - 30 minutes out of my way to get Tilton House of Pizza every time ... just will never get this buffalo chicken pizza again. Make sure you order ahead of time ... like WAAAAY ahead of time. It took 1.5 hours on a Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. from order until pickup. That's crazy! Even at 4 p.m. on a Thursday, the wait was 40 minutes on a phone in order.
