I opted to try Gillware for my particular data recovery situation after finding them to have a local office and after listening to their level of confidence in being able to recover my data during my initial phone consultation with the tech the receptionist brought in. I had called several other well known firms and the level of confidence wasn't really there after discussing my situation and what I attempted thus far. Could these other firm succeeded, maybe, but I wasn't in the position to risk a failed attempt and prolonged process. There is a point when hiring professionals to do something is just the right call. Especially when it comes to irreplaceable data where the more you try, the less likely your going to get anything back... My situation was basically a missing/corrupt MBR on an all in one tablet computer with a soldered SSD. My own initial attempts at repairing the MBR with conventional commands were unsuccessful. Booting into a live disk and imagining the drive also failed. The drive was showing as bitlockered with a decent amount of other issues. Obviously if the drive was fully encrypted with no password available, Gillware wouldn't have been able to succeed, but my own attempts indicated there was something funny going on with possible partial encryption...? I dropped the unit off to the local tech at the start of the week and went over what I tried. He seemed reasonably confident that he could recover the data. Fast forward to Wednesday, I was called and told he recovered the data. I opted to pick it up in person and did so the next day. Overall a good experience. While Gillware is not nearly the cheapest option, they have the resources and experience to get the job done in my opinion. Gillware -aka "The miracle workers!" Needless to say, we were devastated when we discovered that our computer hard drive had failed and, of course, we had no backup! We tried two computer "fix it" shops and got nowhere. Then, doing an Internet search for hard drive data recovery, we found Gillware and were happy to discover that they would evaluate our drive and we wouldn't have to commit to do anything if they felt they couldn't recover any data. In a very short time, they came back to us with an approximate cost estimate and a list of files that they thought would be recoverable. We gave them the go-ahead & when we got the new hard drive with the recovered data, we were disappointed to find all the file names, but no data. Following a telecom with the Gillware engineer & a hookup to our computer via the Internet, he was able to verify our findings (that the data wasn't on the new hard drive) and was immediately able to diagnose the problem. Three days later we received a call from Weston at Gillware that all of the data had been extracted from the failed hard drive and transferred to a pair of DVDs. They were mailed to us the same day. He also offered to walk us through the process of transferring the recovered data to our new hard drive, once we had received the DVDs. We were able to do this on our own, but it was comforting to know Gillware support from Weston was just a phone call away. We are hoping to never have another failed hard drive and we plan to perform backups from now on. HOWEVER, in the event that we ever do experience this problem again, Gillware will be our first call - "we have them on speed dial." I have been a photographer for the last five years. I have always backed up my files on external hard drives. I thought I had a relatively good system. I got an order for a wedding that I had shot. I plugged in the drive and it started clicking and making strange noises. My computer would no longer see the drive. I recently did a real dumb thing. I DID NOT back up my pictures, and guess what? Yup you got it. My computer crashed and I sat horrified as I watched 7 years of my life whiz off into cyber space. I had a photographer's worst nightmare happen to me recently. My SD card failed during upload and I lost about 1600 images from a client's wedding. I had been sold on the reliability of external hard drives and was pretty happy with my decision...until one fateful day. My external hard drive suddenly stopped working while I was abroad. I had a variety of data formats from various image files, office documents, adobe documents, and much of which contained my research. I was linked with Gillware through Micro Center here in Houston. I needed my 3 Terabytes of information extracted from my broken external hard drive. The information on their is all of my research I've accumulated over the years and is something I'm extremely proud of! I found out that data extraction for that much information is extremely expensive any where you go! I'm writing this review as a former affiliate. Affiliates are supposed to earn a commission by referring clients to Gillware. As time went on I noticed my payments were not coming in. After multiple contacts with them, they advised me they had made some accounting errors. It took a huge amount of effort to get my money from them after which time I closed my account and switched to another lab that always pays promptly. I also had a great deal of difficult with clients complaining to me that Gillware was not communicating with them.
