The staff is very helpful and spent as much time with me as needed. After my computer repair, they helped download and install software, and do things I don't know how to do and things the Apple Store wouldn't take the time to do. i had to go back more than once and found them happy to help. Bob, the owner, spent hours getting me set up on my new Mac mini last week (a service that one pays for- very much worth it!-) and just now spent an additional 3 hours trouble shooting a problem that arose in LightRoom following the new set up. Beought my XS Max in for a speaker repair. They broke the screen on my phone and excepted me ro pay for the whole cost of the screen. There was nothing wrong with it at all. No I'm cracks or anything. They expected me to pay for the cost of a screen when they broke it. WON'T BE BACK. Might have okay service but when they break your stuff they don't wanna take responsibility and blame it on anything they can think of. On top of that they expect to cover the cost of their mess up. I work in serice and when i break something I'm expected to make it right. Never will you see me step food in that building ever again. Sickening. read more

The wonderful folks at Graphite helped me say goodbye to an old friend: my 17" 2008 Macbook Pro. This workhorse computer saw me through a lot of hard times, from dissertation-writing to starting my own business, website, and beyond. I had already been to the Apple Store for emergency Rx after getting the black screen of death, only to realize that those poor technicians are working within a very tight timeframe and under high pressure. Though knowledgeable and friendly (at least in my particular case), they are almost certainly unequipped to tackle the more complicated issues like a fried hard drive or logic board. I am so very glad, though, that they referred me to Graphite for further diagnostic help. A visit to Graphite confirmed my worst fears: the hard drive was fried. Thus began an epic, 2-month quest for the perfect computer that fit within my budget, but that also got me certain minimum specs that I just couldn't do without. At first, I wanted a refurbished 17-incher from 2010 or later. Bob, the owner, did some sleuthing for me: he tracked down some representative models online, looked at all the specs, ran the numbers, and gave me the breakdown of what it would cost to get the computer up to my minimum requirements. That convinced me to target a newer, 15-inch model. Finally, Bob told me about a fantastic special Graphite was running and I was hooked. I ended up with a new, BANGING computer. My data was all backed up from my old computer, but I didn't want to lose some of my programs if they could be salvaged. So Bob spent a LOT of time on migration, since my hard drive was apparently fried in a most spectacular way. Despite that, he didn't charge me any more than the original quote. He also spent a lot of time with me to be sure that programs had transferred and were working properly, and that everything was set up correctly. The staff at Graphite are all friendly, capable, and HAPPY. Bob told me that he has a couple of staff who came to him by way of the Apple Store: not only were they well trained, but they also gravitated to an environment in which they could spend more time taking care of customers. Graphite is in the process of expanding and remodeling as a part of gaining Apple Premier Reseller status. This is going to be an incredibly cool store to visit, and I'll definitely be back (once my wallet recovers) to check it out. So if an optic-nerve-fryingly bright, pressure-cooker type of environment isn't your thing when you're shopping for Apple products or getting technical help, come give Graphite a look. I came here for a repair after Apple could not get me in. They had a slot open so I drove all the way here to find out they don't do screen repairs and send the phone away anyway.....so off to Apple, and get it done in 3 hrs. Kinda of useless to have a phone repair place that can't repair your phone. I did give it a 3 because they had a nice selection of Apple products for sale. So glad I brought my 1929 iMac here for repair. My hard drive crashed and my last backup was seriously old (I know I know). The first Apple authorized shop I took it to was not able to recover any data off the hard drive. They offered to replace my drive and referred me to an advanced data recovery outfit to perform surgery on my old hard drive and pay upwards of $900 if they succeeded in getting any data off of it. I decided to get a second opinion. Graphite (Alex to be specific) recovered the data. They also suggested a solid state hard drive which made the computer pretty much sing Amazing Grace. Did I mention that he managed to recover my data? Another bonus - Graphite's final bill to me for everything - the data recovery, new solid state drive and reload of all my crap was less than what the other place would have added to my bill for the hard drive alone. #worththedrivetostoughtonroad read more

I had a little bit of water damage to my MacBook Pro and wanted to get it checked out. My model is older than 5 years and couldn't be serviced by Apple. I spent hours calling Apple Authorized Service Providers all over the state of WI and the Twin Cities and Christian from Graphite was by far the most helpful and kind. I appreciated not being talked over, mansplained to and shamed for having spilled a capful of water on my laptop. He talked me through the repair process and gave me a rough ballpark of what it might cost (something other places refused to do). Thankfully, the MacBook is up and running again. This ordeal reinforced to me the importance of great customer service. I will definitely be sharing my positive experience with Graphite with my family and friends. My 2012 Mac Mini (juiced with 16GB and 1T SSD hard drive so want to keep it) slowed down to an absolute crawl. Beach balls of death everywhere. I signed up for an appointment at what I thought was their West location but when I showed up, I had signed up for East. They honored the appointment anyway, despite being busy. Looked at it the same day and diagnosed that the fan had crashed and heat was slowing it down. Called me within two hours. Ordered the $20 part and and fixed it within three days. Could have legitimately charged me $99 bench fee, which I agreed to in bringing it it, but only charged me for actual labor, $25. Could have told me almost anything. These folks are honest as the day is long, efficient, and good. Will bring all of my computers and devices to them from now on. read more

Absolutely great experience. A friend gave me a 2010 17" MacBook Pro (with newish solid state drive). It worked pretty well except the trackpad is tap only. In half an hour, the guy did diagnostics (all systems & parts are go) and helped me come up with a decent work-around given that parts are hard to find & repair more $ than it's worth - also his assessment. In that same time I didn't even get an Apple Store tech person to honor my scheduled appointment. read more

They charge a $29 service fee for battery replacement that isn't disclosed on the Apple website when making the appointment. It's better to get your battery replaced directly through Apple. read more

I had a great experience at Graphite on Voges Rd. The staff was very friendly and helpful. While I recognize that getting my computer fixed for less than $50 in under 10 minutes wont happen every time, it was not what I was expecting and I was very pleased! I will be back. read more

They are wonderful! We worked with Brian K. and he was great. I was not interested in going to a mall for our issues. We drove from Rockford and it is well worth the drive, which actually ended up being much faster than anticipated. Very easy to find. I contacted them about bringing our iMac in on a Friday. Just 2 days before, our son (college-age) had some major problems with his MacBook Pro. So... we ended up bringing both computers in and both of them needed new hard-drives. We dropped them off on a Friday and BOTH were done by Tuesday. Awesome! On pickup day. Brian was SO helpful and patient with my numerous, never-ending questions. (I forewarned them that we were not Mac-savvy.) He had my son's MacBook set up ready to go just like new and thankfully reinstalled Office for him. Per Brian's recommendation (and no pressure), I ended up buying an external hard-drive there and he set that up for us too. Our very recent purchase of an external hard-drive elsewhere was less than stellar (WD My Book for Mac). The iMac was out of warranty and the MacBook was still under Apple Care. I was very happy with the cost of repairs. Plus, feeling confident about service, etc., makes all the difference. I will definitely bring any of our other Apple products to them for service and would prefer to buy new Apple products from them as well. I was about to leave and think I read that they work on iPhones as well? As far as water damage, etc. I'm not positive though. Please check that out with them, don't take my word for it. * The next day I texted my son and asked if his computer worked great. His response: "yes omg so fast". Yay! P.S. I would highly recommend contacting them prior to attempt troubleshooting or even contacting Apple. Unfortunately, my son called Apple because he was still under Apple Care. He was not asked if he had a backup and was walked through some procedures over the phone. Those procedures wiped everything on his computer. Everything! He lost school-related everything, photos, music, movies, etc. He didn't even have an operating system by the time we brought it to Graphite. Wow. read more

I've had satisfactory service at the University Avenue Graphite store, but EXCEPTIONAL service at the Voges Road location. Without a doubt, I will burn the extra gas to patronize the Voges Road location from now on. After having the University Avenue shop increase the RAM in our mid-2009 MacBook Pro, I headed back to the University location when the display on the same laptop started failing (vertical band kept appearing across the screen). Apple no longer provides parts for these older models and the University Avenue employee suggested I find the parts on eBay, etc. and come back for them to do the repair. He couldn't tell me what parts to look for, but gave me the business card of a tech guy there and told me to contact the tech guy and he would tell me what parts to buy. The employee told me how hard it was to find parts, how expensive they were and how I might be better off buying something new, even if just a Chromebook (my kids use the Macbook in question). I emailed the tech guy and never heard back. Not sure what to do, we lived with the intermittent display issue until this week, when the band wouldn't go away and impeded my high schooler from working on a school paper. I sincerely dreaded having to go back to the University Avenue location because, despite previous satisfactory customer service with the RAM installation, they hadn't been particularly helpful with this screen issue. As luck would have it, I had errands to run on the east side and decided to take the laptop to the Voges Road location instead. I didn't mention my experience at the University Avenue location right away. Without knowing my experience at the west side location, Alex at Voges Road was basically like, "no problem, I'll see if I've got any used parts. If not, I'll find some and get back to you." What? Night and day difference in their approach to the same problem! I left the laptop there and 24 hours later it was repaired for $209. I couldn't be more pleased with the entire transaction. He even replaced the little feet on the bottom of the laptop that we'd lost over the years.
