The service department at Gillespie Ford is 0 for 3. They constantly lie about when the car being serviced will be ready. Today was the last straw and I will never take my car there again! The car was dropped off on Wednesday at 2:30 PM for a scheduled wheel repair. The work would take and estimated 2 to 4 hours. I was to be called if the car would need to be kept overnight. No call! Today, Thursday, the call came in at 10:30am that the car would (probably)be ready between 4 and 6PM. Needless to say the car was not ready and there was no loaner available. Never again! read more

I have been looking for a car for about a month now. After wading through several sleazy dealerships i came across Gillespie Ford. I was hoping this place would be the last one I go to because they had exactly the car i wanted. But my, was I wrong. For context I am a recent college graduate looking to purchase my first vehicle. The first time I was coming over, the sales rep called me three separate times the same day to make sure I was still coming. When I got there, the car was in service. I live in Chicago so this is an hour out for me. I was informed that the engine in the car was being replaced so it has to be serviced. They also told me they would give me the insurance on the new engine. (5 years and 60k miles at no additional cost) When I came back about a week later after the car had been serviced, I tested out the car. After doing all the paper work, I was informed that I will be no longer getting the insurance on the new engine. The same day the sales rep told me I would be getting the insurance. I had even transferred my own insurance on the vehicle by this time. I seriously doubt whether the engine was replaced in the first place. In conclusion, the sales rep are oblivious of the businesss' operations, the management is thoroughly incompetent. Save yourself the trip to Gurnee and stay away from Gillespie Ford. read more

I went in a couple weeks back for service on my car. The check engine light and service transmission light was on. they had my car for two days and didnt even touch it. I was upset and just said forget it. Well, I went on vacation for a week and dropped it off again figuring that they would now have a whole week to work on it. I was told my car would be done on Saturday but I was busy and figured I would pick it up on my way to work Monday morning. Got there and found out my car still wasn't finished and that it was at the jeep Dealership in Antioch (I did know they were taking my car there). They asked me what time I needed my car, I told them now because I have to go to work. They said that the car wasn't finished yet. Needless to say I was pissed. I told them I would go get my car ans they said I couldn't by myself because there was paperwork that needed to be done. I would have to wait at least 30 minutes for the shuttle driver to come take me there. So I sat and waited and yelled up a storm. They took me to my car and I left for work. I work an hour away. As I was driving down the highway, the same lights I brought my car in for ended up coming right back on. Unbelievable. Sick of the crappy service here. Called 5 dealerships for a model at the price I wanted. None came close. Then salesman Rich at Gillespie worked his tail off to convince his unwilling management. When the owner himself stepped in, Rich was able to give me the car at our price. Even after closing time, he was outside in the cold assisting us with everything up to the point we waved goodbye in our new car. Went in today to get the works oil change at 2:50. Did not leave till 6:00. I was told upfront there was a 3 o'clock app. but was told that I would be next in line. They didn't honor that and to make matters worst, when I got my car back they had oil all over the inside. The manger took it to be cleaned but the guys who cleaned it smeared the oil in to the carpet and left a bald spot in the carpet. I will say that he tried to do his best with what he had (some sort of spray, towel & brush) but things like this should not happen. To make matters worst I am missed and he has to explain why he doesn't know how it happened but he is sorry. I appreciate him very much for his effort but now I'm left with my car not as it was when I arrived. UNBELIEVABLE! I also want to say this is the second time I have been here... They had my other car to service the transmission. My wife set an appointment but they failed to say they had several cars in front of ours and the transmission guy will not be there for several days. So after a day of having our car with no communications I called and was then given this info. Like how do you fail to say this to begin with? Why even set an appointment? A couple of months ago I followed through on my original thought to buy our next car from this place, based on the good experience and vibe I got having our old minivan serviced there. I always view buying a car with equal parts excitement and dread: I am excited to get a new vehicle, but dread the negotiation process, the paperwork, the last-minute add-ons, and all the time spent sitting in a plastic chair in some crowded glass-walled office. Thankfully, my experience at Gillespie Ford was all excitement and no dread. I did 90% of the purchase process via email, ordered and received the exact car I wanted (wow, has the Focus changed since the earlier models! I have a Focus Titanium with every high-tech device, including parallel park assist--the car parks itself in tight parallel spots and it truly works--all at many thousands less than what we paid for our loud, creaky, rough-riding Mini Cooper) and after only about an hour at the dealership I was out the door with my new car. The showroom was bright, clean and attractively decorated (not a plastic clamshell chair in sight), and everyone I dealt with seemed uniformly sincere in their desire to make sure I was pleased every step of the way. Two months down the road, my experience with Gillespie is still uniformly positive. I think many car dealerships are upping their game these days due to stiff competition, but in my experience Gillespie is still a stand-out. read more

I reluctantly agreed only to find out they didn't know what was wrong. Went to Penske and it turns out it was nothing serious and covered by my cars emission warranty. Our buying experience was a rollercoaster. We really appreciated the customer service during our purchase, but soon after we brought the vehicle home we found out it had mechanical issues missed by the initial inspection. Contacting my salesperson, Jimmie, was a nightmare. During the sale he was courteous and respectful but following the sale, he no longer showed this respect toward us, hanging up on us after we reached out for help regarding the issue. After reaching out to the sales manager, we brought the vehicle back in and received a brand new loaner vehicle while our was being fixed (at no cost to us, other than the gas to get to and from there). Horrible service department, wife made an appoint yesterday for today as they could not do an oil change quickly, appointment for today, they said it was not on their schedule even though the guy she made the appointment with was 5 feet away, said they couldn't do it until end of day today. Sad part is we bought that car from them last year. I had the same exp with service department last year, bought my car in with an appointment and they did not even get the truck in that day, not until noon the following day. Poor customer service, sad that that is our closest dealer, but the one North of us never seems to have that problem. Took my vehicle here for service. Asked for them to go on a test drive with me so I could point out issues my vehicle was having as no codes were being thrown. Signed for 1 hour work went to waiting area for mechanic to come get me for test drive. Waited 40-45 min after being told it would be 15-20. Went to front noticed vehicle was not where I parked it in the bay so I proceeded to ask about it. I was told let me go find out.. after several more minutes I get asked to come take a look at what they found. I go to back where my vehicle was covered in coolant and a hose was blatantly broken at the plastic 3 way by the mechanic who proceeds to say coolant was leaking into number 1 coil. So I ask how long for them to replace hose they broke and they said they didn't do it and it was like that when I drove in. Well where I parked there was not sign of coolant. Then it happened when the mechanic was driving it. And the manager a lazy gentleman argued and threatened me by saying he wanted to call my military command. When given number he backed out and said I was paying for hose or I could drive my car out of his business. Long story short after 3 days they got the part into my car and still tried to charge me for it. They do this tactic with people who are having maintenance done on vehicles that are over 100,000 miles to break your car and get you to pay top dollar for a new ford or ford parts. The service was worst ever I thought being a ford I would trust the experts on ford. WRONG never again. STAY AWAY from here they are out to rip off anyone. 1 star for liars. read more

It's a nightmare to call this place, the service and parts dept NEVER answer the phone or if they do they put you on hold for 10 minute while they touch themselves. Been here a few times for service and every time it's more and more of a joke. Always got denied for a loaner..then they said call back on X day and we can get you a loaner, do that and they say no again and again. So I said screw it and dropped it off anyway. They can't find the issue and claim to drive it around their parking lot for 9 miles. Sorry no you didn't. They just want to sell you stuff and not fix anything under warranty. After arriving to purchase a new Explorer, my wife and daughter were told that it was not on site and that it would be delivered. Paperwork was completed, and we expected a delivery soon. The first sign of trouble was the call from sales that instead of 6 miles, the vehicle had 6,000 miles- oops! I asked for a price adjustment and was told all was good. The next day, another call, and another story about how the miles had already been figured into the deal (yet the miles were never revealed because the vehicle, conveniently, was not on the lot). I had a problem with my ford taurus with its transmission and everything went good hopefully but while they were changing it they messed up my alignment for my car and the guy told me they didn't do nothing to the suspension but its easy to hit something and mess up the alignment when you're under there poor customer service i would not go back. read more

Everything about the service department was amazing! We were on our way to Wisconsin to go camping for the weekend when we broke down. I called Gillespie Ford freaking out and immediately they were super helpful. We got towed there and within an hour we were on our way to Wisconsin. We had gotten an oil change at another Ford dealer the day before and apparently they knocked some sort of air hose loose which they were able to tighten and fix the problem. Tried to make appointment with Richard the service manger who told me I am not going to service you auto since I told him I wanted a loaner since Richard told me he have my car for 2 days. Buyer's BEWARE! Know exactly what you want or you will be in the hurt locker when you realize what they are doing to you right in front of you. If you know you are not great at reading people, come with someone who is and protect yourself. They'll put 5 different people in front of you to throw you off your game. One person says one thing, another person follows it up, and by the third and fourth person they sit you in front of, everything is twisted. Pay very close attention to the words and how they are being twisted. Verify everything on paper with what is being said compared to what you actually want. I guarantee you that it won't match. Long story short, we got the car we wanted at the price we wanted before we ended up leaving with nothing. They offered to sell me the Ford Voice Navigation system ($1600), and even met me half way ($800) come to find out all along they were going to install an aftermarket navigation system. LET ME BE CLEAR! They wanted me to pay the price of a factory Ford navigation system, but then only install an aftermarket navigation system they couldn't even tell what brand it was going to be until they bought it. This is how they trick you into getting the money back they are offering in "discounts". We thought we had a great deal. Thanks to our discipline in paying attention to the details, we avoided what would have been an even more frustrating situation. This post is not coming down. ****Update**** They contacted me today in regards to the entire experience. The customer service rep was (surprise, surprise) massively misinformed. I honestly felt bad he was lied to and then told to somehow spin it and throw shade my way. He even thought I thought his response was public when I told him he wasn't going to save for the company. Yeah, I know it was a message. Another wrong assumption by this dealership and I see right through it. They still tried to point the finger at me by saying I had agreed to the aftermarket nav system. No, that's not true at all. What my wife and I agreed to was the Ford Voice Nav system. Why would I work into the deal a Ford Nav system that costs almost $800 (and also needed the $1100 sync system to even work) only for them to install something they were going to buy down the street for $250-400? I wouldn't and that's why we walked. Had they explained that the factory Nav system must come from the factory, then I would have ordered another car. Duh. They didn't even know what brand or model of navigation they were going to buy. I asked for the paperwork and they had no idea until some runner went to go buy one once the car arrived on the truck and they were ready to install. If you don't even know what model you are going to put in the car, why would you tell me I need to pay an additional $800 for the NAV system? You don't even know what it was going to cost until you shopped for it but you want to charge me that on the front end, the cost of a factory Nav system? Really? I had even opened up to them my experience with a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse purchase where we worked into the deal a CD changer since the receiver had the input for it. Instead of a CD changer from Mitsubishi, they went down the street and bought an AudioVox model and literally tried to velcro the remote to the dash. So of course I was going to ensure something like that never happened again with features I wanted added that it didn't come with initially. All they had to say was "the car coming in on the truck doesn't have what you want," and I would have simply left or talked with them about ordering one from the factory that did. Case closed. The bottom line is look at the paperwork and ensure it is what you want. Don't believe a word they say to you. I'm so glad we didn't agree to the car and sign. Those are the facts. read more

We specifically told the sales rep that the navigation system is a deal breaker; hence, I agreed to increase our budget to $1,000!!!! We also specifically said that if they cannot include the navigation system at the price we are willing to spend, we would not purchase the car. In fact, we did walk away and Juan chased us outside the door and offered us a deal! That he would give us the car with all the features we wanted including the Ford navigation system that I repeatedly stated is a must! With that agreement he requested that we finance through your dealership as part of the deal. And I said if he could give us a lower interest rate, we would. And before we walked back inside, I again, repeatedly told him to make sure that he is not going to take anything out of the specified features just to meet my price. And he GUARANTEED ME that I would get everything that I wanted at the price that we agreed on. SO, before you accuse me of posting a review that is not true, you need to verify your facts!!! Yesterday I went to Gillespie Ford after finding the perfect van online. The van in the picture which I provided was outfitted with a conversion package and was priced at 43,000 and the "Big Dog Price" of 34,000. When I got there the van was marked as $63,000. When asked about why the internet price should the exact vehicle as $34000 the salesman feed me a line of garbage about that is the price before the package. When I told him it was the one pictured he went around and around about how it was a doffeeent price because of this and that. They have numerous vehicle on the lot and none are the price they list online. Complete trash... this dealership is the reason car salesman have a certain reputation. False advertising, smokey smelling cars; which is most likely due to the salesman about the parking lot lighting up. Trash... so disappointed to make the trip to be talked to like a moron. read more

My husband and I were looking for a bigger vehicle to grow with our family. We stopped by Gillespie Ford and met Kasey who was friendly and who showed us a ford expedition and then a ford explorer fully loaded. My husband is not a fan of Ford vehicles but he was impressed by the engine, the way it drove, the design, and the technology. Of course I was impressed!! Then we looked at big SUV's down the road like the tahoe, suburban, expedition, etc and other small sized suv's. We used to have a 2005 black Denali fully loaded but when we looked at what we could get for our money we were not impressed. The design and technology was not there. We knew right away we wanted to go ahead with a ford explorer four wheel drive sport with the turbo engine fully loaded and red! Kasey and Joe worked hard to find us the vehicle that was right for us and they did, on the East coast! They had it delivered and shined it up and we got a deal on a 2016 ford explorer sport with turbo and fully loaded.
