With some recent high wind storms in the area, I woke up one morning to several really large tree limbs that had fallen on my driveway. I managed to move the limbs to one side of the driveway so that at least one vehicle could move out. I then began looking for a service to help me get rid of the those large tree limbs. Gilbert's Tree Service was nearby and had excellent Yelp reviews. I called their number via Yelp and within no time I was talking with someone who would be coming by my property to inspect the downed limbs. That person arrived 5 minutes later and after giving me an quote they had a crew at my house 5 minutes after that! They disposed of all the limbs and even cleaned up the debris! Their crew just left, trimmed large trees in both front and back of my house. Goal was to lighten its load and ensure no limbs would fall on our, or neighboring, houses. Guys did a great job, left the trees light but neat, took away all limbs and debris, cleared off my roof, and swept the concrete clean. They even took out a large pile of leaves and twigs that I had raked next to the tree and planned on bagging after they were done. Great service, fair price, highly recommend. Another service actually quoted a lower price but they were 3 hours late to our estimate appointment. Gilbert's crew was on time and got done early. Extremely happy with Pedro and his crew. I had a roughly 20' seven year old oak tree, roughly 2' in diameter, that needed to be removed because it was going to soon create problems with the driveway. Being a member of NextDoor.com, I requested recommendations from my neighbourhood and Pedro was mentioned several times. On September 15th I sent him a text, including photographs of the tree and the area from which it needed to be removed. Within 10 minutes I received a reply, which included the price to cut down the tree, remove the debris, grind the stump/roots, and clean up. Of the three companies from whom I had requested a quote, he was the first to reply - and with the cheapest price. Scheduling was a breeze. I asked him on September 17th about his availability and was told he could do it the upcoming Tuesday. He arrived promptly at 8 am on September 22nd, as he said he would, with his crew. The job was completed within 40 minutes to my total satisfaction. I called for an estimate​ and Junior came out and gave a fair bid on trimming two trees. Great thank you, let's do this thing. He said someone would call me Monday to set up a day. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday went by. I called and the young lady was very helpful. She said she would get Junior's notes, send me an email bid that night,​ and call to schedule a day. Super I thought, we're back on track. No. I received no email or call. I'm not going to beg you to take my $650. We used Gilbert's Tree Service in fall 2012 to remove a couple of pine trees and crepe myrtles from our property and grind a bunch of stumps. We had two tricky situations where young oak trees were basically swallowed up by crepe myrtles. I wasn't sure anyone could get rid of the crepe myrtles without hurting the oaks, but these guys did so perfectly. We worked with Pedro, who was reasonably quick to respond with a quote, easy to communicate with regarding scheduling, and quite fastidious about the work. Pedro even helped my husband fix his chain saw while he was on site, which was very kind. Their bids were definitely lower than some folks who provided an estimate. When I calculate the number of guys that came out and the number of hours they worked, I think Gilbert's pricing was more than fair. Gilbert's has all the necessary licenses and insurance, so you don't have to worry about being on the hook if a tree falls on your neighbor's car or something. Thankfully, Gilbert's is also good at what they do, so all our trees went exactly where they were supposed to. read more

They did a great job, and Pedro, my main contact, was very kind and helpful. I wanted to have some branches trimmed from my fan palm tree and it was only $35 - very cheap! There were some minor problems that I don't care about, but others might. First, when setting an appointment for the estimate. We agreed on a date and general time, and they said they would call me 1 hour before they showed up, but they did not, and called me when they were already at my house. I was still at work at the time because I was expecting a call. Luckily, my gate was unlocked anyway for another project and they went in and looked and gave me an estimate over the phone. Second, after the estimate, they said they would call me the next day to schedule the trimming, but did not call me until 4 days later. I was not in a rush so no big deal, but may be a problem for someone that wanted it done ASAP. Third, we agreed that Pedro would come out around 5 or 6 to collect payment, but he never came or called. Despite these minor problems, the service was nice, showed up to trimmed my tree as agreed upon, and cheap. I would recommend their services to anyone. read more

My girlfriend had used these guys for other landscape work and they had seems very reasonable. She hired them for a major drainage and re-landscaping of her back yard. They did the shoddiest job ever. He was a no-show most days and dragged the projects out for weeks and not finished... draining everything onto her sidewalk. We had a really heavy rain two weeks ago and the drains didn't even work backing water into her yard. Everything he did was done poorly and everything was left half done. Pedro and his crew did a great job, was fast, communicative, and very reasonably priced relative to the other vendors I talked to in Houston. He removed a tree which was putting a crack in my patio and trimmed the less problematic trees in my yard. He also did a small amount of landscaping which including disposing of leftover lawn ornaments from the house's prior owner, and trimming back some of the brush. The biggest job was pulled out the rusted metal patio trim which lined my garden, and replaced it with fresh bent metal trim. The speed of which he was able to get in and finish the work was important since I was on a timeline to put my house up for sale. Unfortunately, after standing us up twice, we decided to be understanding and do business with Gilbert's Tree Service. We figured, it's tough times for everyone right now. They. Were. Terrible. The day after they did the job, a branch from the tree they'd serviced crashed onto my wooden fence, forcing us to replace the fence prematurely. Pete and his crew have been doing work for me for around 20 years. I recently moved and sadly I will NEVER LET HIM TOUCH MY YARD AGAIN. I had recently gotten a divorce and had brought a house in Oak Forest. The backyard was not level, pot holes and drainage issues. The house came with a sprinkler system and drains but the yard was holding water when it rain and when it didn't the sprinkler system didn't work. We focus on the back half where I originally saw the standing water. I told Pete I didn't have a lot of money to spare but I have dogs and was having a doggie door put in and didn't want mud in the house. I also asked him to trim the trees. He gave me a price and I went with it. It took them several trips out to do what he said he would do. And his nephew came and worked on the sprinkle system which was not working. It rained in-between all of this and I noticed I had at least two inches of water standing on the front half of my backyard, not where the drains were or where we had focused. I called him to let him know. He came out I pointed out the oak tree in the front yard still had lots of dead wood on it. As we talked about the backyard I said "We both focused on the back instead of the whole yard. I needed your input about everything that needed to be done." To be fair I did point out the pot holes in the front part but told him to just filled them but soon so that the grass would be strong by the time I moved in. I did not know and was trusting his judgement to say it very unleveled and needs to be raised. He did say he would fit it and make it right and would handle the tree. He never did. The sprinkler stopped working so I called him and told him the grass was going to die because the sprinkler wasn't working. If the grass died then when it rains mud. Pete never returned my calls nor did he handle the pot holes or the oak tree. I called several times and no response. Finally what I didn't want to happen happened my dogs somehow got the cover on the couch halfway off and got mud on all my new furniture. Pete today responded to a text I wrote about my upset with his lack of work. He blames me for focusing on the back of the yard and believes I was happy because I paid him. I paid him because my history with him was that if there was a problem he would fix it and make it right. He is a small business owner and it had been several weeks so I thought he could use the cash and we could resolve any problem. BOY WAS I EVER WRONG. And as a side note the back area still holds some water just not as much as it did before. This is very hard for me to write this review since Pete has always been so good to me and my family with his work and price. NO MORE!!! Now he wants to raise his voice at me and tell me he did his job when in fact he didn't. Even if you don't consider the front half of the yard he NEVER CAME BACK AND FILLED THE HOLES IN NOR REMOVE ALL THE DEAD WOOD FROM THE OAK TREE, HE SIMPLY DIDN'T DO WANT HE SAID WHICH WAS HE WOULD MAKE IT RIGHT. read more

I was very impressed with the work that Pedro and his team did at my house. They trimmed our sad looking palm tree as well as took down a branch that was on our roof from a neighbor's tree. The service Pedro provided was not only professional, but efficient. They were done within a couple hours and didn't leave a spec of palm tree debris in our backyard with our tree looking like new again. After getting several bids to trim my large magnolias and elms, it became quickly apparent that Pedro and his team were up for the job. Pedro arrived the morning after my call to give an estimate and it became very clear that he has been doing this for awhile. His quote was on the lower side of proposals I received but what impressed me most was his ability to listen during the quote process. Once I awarded the job, he arrived with his crew, trucks, grinder, and chainsaws and they made quick work (3 hrs) out of what some of his competitors thought would be a full day job. What is also useful is that Pedro was there to oversee the job and if his team wasn't sure about a particular limb, they would stop and ask. They even found a spot high on my roof that had been worn by a limb and helped me patch it with tar. Oh, and my yard looked as if it had been manicured before they left.
