Just like the other Gilbert's location I've tried, I have to ask: What is WRONG with the bakers at this place? For my birthday, a friend purchased an assortment of bite-size treats, mostly chocolate. Everything was so soaked in raw rum or vodka that no one could eat more than a bite. I have had rum cakes before, and they are always delicious and the alcohol is cooked so that everyone can enjoy them. This was so disappointing! read more

This place has gone down hill. What a shame. This used to be a gem within Miami Cuban delights. The pastries are cheap and flavorless. The guava and cheese pastry was not edible. What is worst the Cuban Coffee is now an off brand and its water and taste bitter. Shame on you Gilberts management on destroying a once great eatery. We recently used Gilbert's for our wedding favors of mini pies. They were fantastic! We did a mix of the mini apple and key-lime pies. All the guests loved them and we did as well. They made the process hassel free and they delivered the pies to the wedding location. We will use them again! read more

Gilbert's gives croquettes a bad name but their petit midnight sandwiches and chicken fricassee pie wedge are close to perfection. It's a bit pricier than your regular bakery but I find it delivers a better and fresher sandwich than other local Latin bakeries. The Spanish tortilla and stuffed potato are pretty good too. Do arrive early and take a number to be one of the first to indulge in the first fresh batch of goodies. read more

I stopped here to get something for breakfast. There was one customer waiting & there was no employee in the front to help us! After a few minutes one of the employees came & asked for my order. A Cuban toast & an apple juice. It took her 5 minutes to make a toast & when I tried it it was hard with almost no butter on it. This place is overpriced & is not worth it at all. I was in the area and decided to drop in. This location used to be exceptional. Had a poor selection of items, no baked options and mediocre service. Additionally, very over priced. A standard cafe con leche that you wouldn't pay more than $1.50 for at another bakery was $3.75. Then, not only do you have to pay for an overpriced coffee but then you have to wait because there is only one person designated as the cashier. read more

I first was lured into Gilbert's on Bird Rd. while waiting for a table at Mario's, for pizza. There were four of us and, after eating, returned to Gilbert's for take-out dessert. We purchased a variety of pastries and they all looked simply delicious. Much to our dismay, everything tasted the same! Mostly sugar with a slippery fat-feel in the mouth. The chocolate choices had no authentic chocolate flavor and all of us felt we'd been punked by the Crisco fairy. On another excursion, we tried the Gilbert's across from the Falls. Same thing, so we assume the recipes are all the same. There are a thousand bakeries that far exceed Gilbert's. Needless to say, we won't try a third time. read more

Thank god for Gilberts Baker! I called several bakeries for a cake for my mothers 90th birthday and all I got was rudeness and very overpriced quotes with no assistance. When I called Gilberts they were kind, helpful, and i was able to place the order for the cake right away. I long for the days when all businesses used to conduct themselves like this. With some pride and customer service. I highly recommend Gilberts not only for their wonderful service but they have the most delicious cakes, pastries and savory goods. Went in today for mothers day for two cakes and then decided it was too much cake and wanted to take two only. However, they tried to pressure me into buying the two cakes i did not want! Not only that they did so very rudely! I still had not paid ( had the upper hand) and they wanted to basically make me pay! I still had the choice to turn down both but i was not going to lower myself to their level! All they showed was 0 customer service and desperate for money! The service has been horrible. I order a cake 2 days in advance, they even took my credit card information. Once I got there to get the cake they told me that I had to wait in line until it was my turn. Once I order something and you have my credit card information the order should have been paid for and I do not need to wait for an order that I need since the morning. I asked for a cake that would be from 10-12 people and they gave me a cake that's for a single serve only. When I confront they lady at the counter she was super rude and kept cutting me off. I ordered a paleo cake for a bridal shower......and it was GORGEOUS! It was exactly as the bride wanted, the perfect color of frosting, which was the color of Tiffinay's blue, and they matched it perfectly. It was a beach theme shower and I wanted a few starfish on it and they made it look classy and gorgeous. The bride and groom said it was the most delicious cake they ever tasted! read more

First of all let me say that my favorite pastelitos are from Gilbert's Bakery and their cake too! However, that was when they had their Gables location (on coral way). I just went yesterday to the bird road location to pick up a cake special, and nothing is the same as the Gables location. The pastelitos don't taste the same and the service wasn't too great. I got there and it was empty, yet I had to wait for 30 minutes for my cake which I had ordered days ahead, and not to mention it was way past my pick up time. I really hope they open a coral gables location again since its way closer to me and with more quick and attentive staff. Till then I won't be back to Gilbert's ;( read more

If you are in the market for a wedding cake, dont be fooled!! The so called gallery does not exist. When you go there on Coral Way you will see maybe 6 cakes, not the 30 they talk about on their website. Then they show you a book, some pictures are magazine cut outs. Shop around for prices because they just give you a price and then start adding on. Will never go there again. read more
