ATTENTION!!! DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY AT THIS LOCATION!! Gilbert is not the mechanic he says he is. Back in April/May of this year I had gotten my car towed to his shop to be worked on. I asked if he could take a look at it to see how much it would be to get the wheel and axle replaced plus the oil pan leak. I told him over the weekend when it was raining real bad my car did a spin out when I did a slight turn onto the access road. He said he would take a look at it and let me know by the end of the day. The day ends and I hear nothing so I called the next day (mind you I'm a very understanding person and know how shops can be busy) when I called he answered the phone in a rude way stating the fact that he's been busy and its been raining so he hasn't looked at it and proceeds to say leave me your name and make/model of car and call in the morning. I call and its the same thing about him being busy and so on. (Each day I'd call for a follow-up) By the end of the week and into the next week on Monday he tells me the car is ready. I got a Uber there and when I arrived he was dressed like he was going to some nice event (Crisped button down shirt starched jeans and boots). I asked where my car was, he then picked up an oil tank and told me there was nothing he could do and said I needed my car replaced. Mind you my car was never moved from the spot when it was towed. He never moved it nor looked at it. I knew for a fact he didn't look at it because he said he wouldn't charge me. Once I got my car towed back home I was able to find a good mobile mechanic who actually looked at my car and fixed it for a decent price. Gilbert also scammed over $500 from my sister when he said he fixed it up but its still doing the same thing from when she dropped it of to him and he says it could be this or that. Gilbert's been my mechanic since my first bucket back in 2005. I pulled up in the parking lot(after 3 or 4 mechanics couldn't even diagnose the issue), he stepped out the shop, and before I could even put the car in park, he had already diagnosed it by ear and was giving me a quote. They don't make mechanics like this anymore. Here we are, 20 years and 5 or 6 cars later(accidents NOT mechanical issues), and Gilbert will always be my mechanic. A good example of a real life example, if a part needs to be replaced, Gilbert will let you know if that part needs a brand new replacement or if it can be a used part. I took my truck to Gilbert to have my AC repaired,brought him the parts also. He fixed the AC,took over 8 hours after quoting me 3 hours. I get in my vehicle to drive away and then I start hearing a loud vibration. Long story short my motor mounts are completely out and my engine is shaking so bad and it wasn't shaking at all when I dropped it off. I forgot to mention that while I was waiting to drop off my vehicle that there was another guy that was upset cause he dropped off his vehicle for an oil change and ended up needing motor mounts also. He was just venting to me before but I chose not to listen and now I'm stuck with the same damage. Seemed honest for years until I had another AC issue with my car in which he had already replace the Compressor. Had a more reputable mechanic look at it. AC Compressor was used and failed 1 1/2 years after the alleged new compressor was put in. You get what you pay for. I recommend Dave's Ultimate Automotive on Howard Lane. Been here 4 times in the past year. I have a 97' RAV4, so it gonna need some fixing up. First time, my starter was broken. Got it fixed in an hour, really good price. Second time, simple oil change. The third time I got a tune up & my back tire drums replaced for only 380! I got a tune up estimate from somewhere else, and they were saying it was going to be a good 400 bucks just for the tune up itself. No thank you! Went there again today to get an estimate of how much it would cost to get this noise fixed, I was guessing it was gonna be anywhere from 200-500 bucks to get repaired & it was only 20 dollars! It ended up being something simple! I went to the dealership awhile ago to see how much it was gonna be to get it fixed, and they were telling me 2,000+ dollars! No thanks again! Honest, hardworking, kind, and flawless service. I am in disbelief at how affordable Gilbert's is compared to the 9 other body shops I've tried and received estimates from. I'm also astonished at how perfect my car looks after taking it to Gilbert's. I was in a 3-car accident (debris flying from the car in front of me, rear ended from the car behind me) which put a huge dent right by my gas tank and then caused heavy damage to my front bumper to the point where it was falling off. My experience with Allstate and the insurance claim was a complete mess and shite show at first, but as soon as I walked in the door Gilbert took my info and the claim estimate and said he would take care of everything and even help with the $1000 deductible to make it affordable for me. Every other shop I went to was asking anywhere from $1200-7800 and ON TOP OF the insurance estimate for the SAME repairs!! It truly shows you how other shops want to rip you off. Not Gilbert. He truly cares about his customers, does honest work in hopes you'll return, and doesn't try any smoking guns or mirrors crap or tries to sell you stuff you don't need or aren't asking for. He is straight up and gives the best service at an unbelievable price compared to so many other places. Just 10 days after bringing my car to him, his technicians had not only repaired/replaced everything, they also repainted everything to a flawless degree-- it looks completely brand new and where all the damage was is now smooth as a baby's bottom and has the same sparkly silver coat that matches perfectly with the rest of the car. I lost my $250 dollars here, didn't fix the issue. I went to fix a mechanical noise the car was making when turning. They bought a wrong replacement part that didn't fix the noise and still replaced the part and plus messed up the cars tire alignment while doing so (which they didn't want to accept that it was their fault). The car was not doing the noise at first (which made me think they just greased it so that the noise was suppressed for a period of time. I paid and drove the car and the car's was going sideways and the anti-lock braking signal was turning on. This was very dangerous to drive it in this state. Even so they told me to drive it like that for the weekend to check whether the problem persisted. I obviously couldn't drive it like that for the weekend. I went back the following week and they told me the were going to check the problem. The didn't want to fix the tire alignment they said they hadn't done anything to cause that. (They were the only ones to touch the car and it didn't have the problem before). So they decided to finally fix that problem but the noise persisted and then they told me that I needed to pay an extra $390 to buy the other part that would definitely solve the problem but for the meanwhile to take the car and drive it like that and that there was no problem driving the car with that noise. What would you do after you have paid $250 and the initial issue was not solved and they just made you loose your time and money, plus they caused another problem which they didn't want to fix and finally tell you that you need to pay an extra $380 to buy another part to fix the real issue and meanwhile drive it like that (with the noise) cause there is no problem with it !?! read more

I first found Gilbert 7 years ago when I thought I had major car problems, After leaving my GrandAm with Gilbert giving him an OK for up to $500 I went back the next day to a $96 bill and a car running perfectly. 2 cars later I can say Gilbert is now a friend and my trusted mechanic. Somehow my dad found out about this place when I moved up to Austin a little over 4 years ago, and this is where I take my car, 1999, Nissan Altima, whenever it needs repairs. Now small stuff like oil changes, I'll do on my own, but I just had to have my radiator replaced due to a leak. Unfortunately I live too far away to drive it in, so called Gilbert up, and he was able to recommend a towing company to come pick up my car and take it to his shop. Cool part is he has allowed me to put the charge of towing on the final repair bill w/o adding a couple extra bucks. Towing company said they would charge me $65 to tow from Hutto to his place on thermal, and when I saw the bill, it was the exact same $65 charge, no mark-up. And best part was, he got the car in & out in less than a day. It got delivered by the towing company right before he closed on Monday evening, and was ready for pickup early Tuesday afternoon. Between the 4 vehicles that are used between me, my brother, and parents, they all go to Gilberts for any mechanical needs. After ten years of business I'm walking away. My dad has had a previous bad experience and begged me not to do business with him; but I went against my dads experience and thought he would continue the quality of work he's always done. Needless to say back in October I came to Gilbert about my check engine light coming on. I told him I replaced my front battery, and the car ran fine but the light was on. He checked the code and saw it said "P305F low charging system" and suggested it was my alternator. He then quoted me $400.00 and I said I would return once I saved up the money. I came back at the end of December after getting an oil change and needing the work done by the end of the month before my inspection and registration are due. He told come in on 01/3/2019 and he'll get everything done the same day. I picked up my vehicle later the same day and after a few miles the check engine light was back on. He cleared the code the next day and still a few miles later the light is back on. By this time I could have gotten a ticket, I paid $460.00 because he changed the price, and my same problem still existed. By 01/7/2019 he loaned me a car, and told me it would take a few days to have a dealer mechanic look at the vehicle, showed me a list of things it could be but could not quote me a price. I talked with him over the phone a few times and explained that I was told my auxiliary battery maybe the initial issue. I went over the weekend before and had the alternator, and batteries checked but they all tested fine. His shop did not have the equipment needed to diagnose my issue which cost me time and money. I was very disheartened after he was not straight forward with me, and guessing the issue. He bought a $70.00 auxiliary battery did the inspection and my car has been fine. I would have saved time and money by going to a dealership. His wife argued, he threaten me, and told me he would get his lawyer involved after me questioning what I paid for. I could not get all receipts nor my request for my part he took off my car back. I don't think you do business this way. I got my car back on 01/09/2019 and will never do business with him again nor will my family or friends. We are done. read more

Not only did he charge me more than other shops had quoted me ( i didnt find this out till I had to take it somewhere else.) but he broke more than he fixed, and denied doing it.
