Finished job with perfect execution of tiles and trim
    Barbara W.

Paul Gilbert was a great communicator (by phone/text and email) and arranged to come to our home to install our unusually shaped Fireclay tiles. He showed up with Nicholas on time with all of the equipment needed. He was meticulous in the preparation of the area even going so far as to install waterproof backing board and silicon in the most vulnerable area, behind the sink and faucet. The job was done with extreme care and attention to detail with consistent communication with me on design. The job was small but required the skill of an artist/engineer! Paul and Nicholas were able to do the entire job over three days and the bonus was that they were a joy to have in our home. Professional, kind, skilled and with an aesthetic eye, Paul comes with the highest recommendation from my husband and I.

I had my heart set on a particular tile for my backsplash, but my contractor said it was out of his comfort zone to install. So Gilbert Tile came to the rescue! Of all the quotes I got, he was one of the only ones who didn't shy away from the challenge. I love my new kitchen and think the backsplash is its best feature.

Again, the room still needs to be painted and detailed, but the tiling looks great.

Awesome job. I love my new bathroom. I hired Paul to tile my new bathroom: shower pan, shower walls, and bathroom floor. I converted the space from a pantry to a bathroom. Paul paid attention to the details from beginning to end. He put a lot of time and effort into preparing the space before he started. I think I could fill my bathroom with water and there would be no leakage. In the end, his best work was tiling. I could tell he was a craftsman. The tile arrangement was very well thought out. I will post photos once the bathroom is completed. But I am very happy with the tiling results and glad that a paid a skilled tiler. They also did a great job of cleaning up.

New wall and floor tile install.

Paul really did a great job on both our upstairs and downstairs bathroom tile work. He demoed, prepped and installed our new wall and floor tile very efficiently and cleanly. He is very reliable and honest and was a pleasure to work with. I felt he never once took advantage of the situation and we worked very well together as the job progressed with regards to some of the challenges and modifications along the way. I feel that he was also a good value.

Paul did an excellent job on 230 square feet of tile in hallways, bathrooms and kitchen. We installed sound isolation and tiles over gypcrete floors in my 4th floor condo. He is precise, fast, and involves you in the decisions.

Paul and his tile guy Jesus were great. We had trouble finding someone who could come tile our shower and bathroom floor - everyone I talked to was booked for months in advance - and then I found Gilbert Tile on Yelp and Paul had an opening starting that week! When they went to tile the shower, we discovered that our contractor had installed the walls incorrectly: they weren't even close to plumb, they were installed over the lip of the shower pan so they bowed out (the studs should've been notched to allow for it), and they were installed flush against the pan, which would compromise the water seal. Paul and Jesus did amazing work to flatten and plumb the walls so the tile would look perfect in the end. The floor required a 1 5/8" mud coat as well, as we were having hardwood floors put in right after the tile, and they had a double subfloor, and Paul matched the height exactly. We are very impressed! That all said, some of the floor tiles that were installed are chipped or slightly crooked. I wish they'd taken the time to pop the chipped tiles out of the sheets before laying them.

Paul gets a 5+, his crew get 4.5. Overall a 5! Paul has attention to detail, shows concern if the work might result in undesireable results, and works until the job is done! He couldn't sleep and kept talking about needing an extra 1/4 inch to make room for my refrigerator. Meanwhile his prized crew member didn't take it seriously and commented in Spanish "it's not your job to worry about it"! On a positive note, the crew member was very good with tile setting. Paul's cost can be VERY reasonable, but I made sure to tip him for the job well done. I was first looking for someone who has experience with DITRA. Paul seemed to have enough for me to hire him. My kitchen is on the second floor and lays on top of plywood with the place build in 1955! DITRA was very important for me to use. Paul even recommended Urethane Grout to make it the most resilient kitchen! Paul recommended QuartzLock2. I made sure to wait 72 hours after tile was installed before that speciality grout was applied. It doesn't require sealing! So far so good... I am very pleased with the results, and would hire Paul again in a heart beat! See the pictures, and I'm glad to be a reference.

Paul's attention to detail and quality craftsmanship is the best I've ever experienced with any contractor. He did amazing custom tile work on my small condo balcony. I was present every work day and was highly highly impressed to overhear his attention to detail... and obviously see it in the finished work! Thank you Paul!

Tom's did the floors in my unit a few weeks ago. Here are my thoughts:…read more Pros: - Communication: Generally very prompt communication. I wish I got more updates during construction but they sent them whenever I asked. I liked that they were very contentious about talking with my neighbor when their van was blocking a little bit of their driveway--a lot of contractors wouldn't bother. I also had another neighbor who was causing some issues and they kept me in the loop, which I appreciated. - Price: I talked to several contractors and their price was pretty reasonable--not the lowest nor the highest, more in the middle. Cons: - After construction, I noticed some damage on parts that were supposed to be protected. They were minor damages, but annoying. The most noticeable one was a dent on my TV, which left a white dot that I see every time I turn on my TV, which sucks. - In terms of details, I noticed that there were some dings in pretty noticeable parts of the wood. I don't know if it was the crew or the wood came like that, but when I was testing a wood sample before purchasing, I hit the wood with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark, so it would take a lot of force to leave a dent like the one pictured. Kinda disappointing because the dent is smack in the middle of a high traffic area. Some last notes: - David came by to do a final walk through and helped me move some of the heavier furniture back. It didn't bother me but if you're expecting furniture to be put back the way it was originally, you'll want to manage your expectations. - You should definitely hire painters and cleaners after the construction--I didn't think the walls were going to be as scuffed up as they were. And everything will be superrrr dusty, even if it's covered. - When I expressed concern about not all baseboards being replaced, which I thought was the scope of work, he explained that he told his crew to use existing baseboards when possible. He said he did this to save me some cost and offered me $150 to cover the savings. I generally feel positive about this, although if I hadn't mentioned it I don't think it would've come up, so take that for what it's worth.
