Very nice place kind of tucked away on the water side of The NC History Center at Tryon Palace. From the large parking area you can enter through the History Center or walk toward the water and enter through the main entrance of the restaurant. We entered through the main entrance and were greeted upon entering. As you enter there is plenty of seating around the inside, outside, and some seating at the bar. We were seated near the History Center entrance adjacent to the restroom entryway. Very large windows provide plenty of lighting and views of the water and surrounding area. Our server promptly arrived and took our beverage order as well as provided the specials for the day. A few minutes later she returned with our drinks and took our orders. We ordered the turkey club with coleslaw and the special, cheesesteak with smashed tots. Our meals arrived after a short wait. They looked really good. The portions were a good size and were well prepared. We both agreed everything was delicious! The coleslaw had great texture and the right amount of seasoning. The turkey club delivered everything you would expect. The smashed tots were an interesting version of tots, but were good. For me the highlight was the cheesesteak. I had mushrooms and jalapenos added to the already loaded sandwich and it was amazing. The overall experience was great. We will definitely return here again and highly recommend giving Lawson's On The Creek a try.

This year, there were 13 of us, sharing multiple meals together. Everyone in our New Bern office loves Gemelli's. We order lunch there often, but have never had any kind of catering done. I went in during lunch, thinking I would just grab a menu for their catering and be on my way. Matteo took the time to talk to me about their offerings and put together a spread with a lot of variety and great flavors. We had two sandwich trays and a large salad. We picked the items up from the store, and they were neatly packaged and organized, with all the condiments on the side (to keep the sandwiches from getting soggy). The staff even helped us get everything out to the car so we didn't have to make multiple trips. They also provided a wide variety of chips on the side. Everything from the bread to the vegetables was fresh and delicious! The variety was great, and exposed us to some sandwiches none of us had ordered before. Several staff members who had not had the sandwiches before commented that they think these are the best sandwiches in New Bern. While there is no question that we will continue to order lunch from Gemelli's, they will definitely feature prominently on our list of places to order catered meals from.

Presentation was peculiar since it came in a fryer basket but it wasn't fried. Service was good. Bakery cases were impressive. I tried a cream puff upon a recommendation from a local. It was indeed one of the best that I have had. Compared to others the crust was more moist and had more substance behind it. Cream was just sweet enough and had a thick but light texture. Also tried their chocolate chip cookies which is a soft and thin type. Definitely will be back the next time I'm in town.

It's definitely nothing fancy, but was clean with about half of the tables occupied when we arrived. My small omelet was served warm but was on the tiny side of small and arrived with a very skimpy portion of sausage, which was a $2.86 up charge. It was a meh. The "home fries" were sliced potatoes out of a can which had been fried earlier that morning and served cold. They were not good at all. My dining companion ordered the 1-egg breakfast. Her scrambled egg was cold. Our server was friendly but seemed very busy so she wasn't especially attentive. All in all, Ghent Sandwich Shop offered a very poor value with mediocre food. Restaurants absolutely need to make a reasonable profit, but this seemed like a rip off.
