My husband and I were craving waffles last Friday morning, so we played hooky from work and visited Gigi's Cafe for the first time. We had such a delightful experience, I can't wait to plan a return visit to further explore the menu. Located on Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy in a strip mall, the only downside about this location is parking. Mid-morning on a Friday is was pretty busy, so I imagine weekends can be even more problematic. We exited the parking lot several times, but eventually found a parking spot very close to the restaurant. We're exploring restaurants with gluten free options and we were very happy to discover Gigi's has plenty of offerings. They take extra precautions for those with allergies, using gloves and dedicated fryers. And the waitstaff are very receptive to questions about the menu, open to customizations if need be. Our waitress was absolutely delightful; lively and personable, and always nearby. We ordered the chicken and waffles, which were crispy, juicy and oh, so flavorful! It didn't matter they were gluten free, they were by far the best chicken and waffles I've ever ordered! My iced mocha was a little pricey, for the size, and lacked flavor. However, my husband's latte was absolutely delicious. Go figure! Overall, I'm very happy with our first visit to Gigi's - and you can bet we'll be returning sometime soon! read more

Surprisingly, I didn't even know this place existed until I specifically searched for breakfast spots in the area, and I'm glad I found it.We had a short wait to be seated, but once we got in, everything moved quickly. The restaurant was bustling with people, and there was a steady line of guests waiting outside, which is usually a good sign. I ordered a cappuccino, while my friend had an Americano. Both coffees were excellent, but the Americano was strong, fragrant and full of flavor. For breakfast, we shared the Veggie Hash, a Two-Egg Breakfast, and a waffle. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes were incredibly generous. In fact, neither of us was able to finish our meal. Service was fast, efficient, and genuinely friendly despite how busy the restaurant was. We had arrived without reservations for brunch. The line went out the door, but moved quickly. We ate outside since there wasn't enough space inside. We had gotten chicken + waffles and the breakfast burrito with a side of house potatoes. Our potatoes had pieces of hair in them, which completely grossed us out, especially since we found them hidden in the food after we had eaten. They took a while to check us out, so we had to go inside to ask for the bill. Once we addressed that, they removed the potatoes from the bill and checked us out. I came across Gigi's Cafe after a long morning at OHSU. It had been busy oddly enough on Wednesday morning as a large group was celebrating an engagement. I love their complimentary mini waffles. I ordered their chicken sausage scramble that came with grits, sauteed greens, and mini waffle. I have never been the biggest fan of grits but Gigi's grits were pretty good. As far portions, it's not too much which is great because I left not feeling overly full. Next time I'm back I look forward to their cornbread jalapeno waffle. read more

We came during a very busy Friday morning, and when you enter the restaurant, it is important that you write your name on the sign-up sheet to ensure that you can be taken care of. We had about two families ahead of us. However, it was not a long wait. Ashley was our waitress and she took great care of us along with the entire restaurant since she was a solo waitress to a full shop. Ashley also had great recommendations. I highly recommend their espresso and coffee. Partner with Groundworks coffee and we actually ended up purchasing a bag because it is a Gigi café special! The fried chicken is so crispy and the waffles are quite large! We were very happy for the price we paid for not only this meal that filled us up, but also for the fact that it is all gluten-free and you cannot tell!!! The food also came quite quick. The atmosphere is very cute as well, I love all of the artwork that is available for purchases. My biggest complaint would be the parking lot, it is quite small and can be very annoying trying to navigate. I cannot wait for my next visit. read more

Poach done properly though and I didn't end up with a pool of vinegar water on my plate. So that's a plus. Came with sautéed greens which were heavily salted and peppered (crushed red) and interestingly was a mix of kale and iceberg. Different. We have been going to Gigi's for several years now. It is such a wonderful spot, and we sincerely appreciate the fact that they treat their employees so well. They are a tipless restaurant and price their food so that they can give all employees a fair wage and benefits, something I'd love to see at more restaurants! The coffee is delicious, and the liege waffles are second to none. You even get tiny little samples of the liege waffles when you sit down! They have great gluten free options and a rotating seasonal menu, as well as a "WOD" (waffle of the day) that is always as tasty as it is imaginative. A waffle sampler? what a concept! I really enjoy waffles but...I rarely order them because...I see them more as an accessory. If they are prepped more like a main then...I usually can't decide which one I want. Gigi's solves that problem with innovative waffle concepts and the fact that you can, more or less, order a "flight" of them. Think of them like "waffle sliders" and you'll get the concept. Always in search of a place for brunch, I decided to visit Gigi's. What a delightful experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and I loved the wall of tea pots and tea cups for sale. With so many breakfast and lunch options, I was struggling to decide what to order. The owner sat down next to me and walked me through her favorite items on the menu. She was incredibly friendly and engaging. I decided on a Tipsy Chai-der, apple cider with Chai and Irish whiskey, the Breakfast Corndogs, and the Waffle of the Day. The Chai-der was the perfect choice for an Autumn day, a warm and cozy beverage. I loved my corndogs! The corndogs are sausages which are battered. The batter was light, not overly greasy or heavy. They also come with honey mustard and sriracha maple dipping sauces, eggs, grits, and greens on the side. Delicious! I chose to add the seasonal waffle, a gingerbread waffle topped with cranberry compote and Chantilly cream to my order. It was wonderful. Another perfect Autumn treat! As I was eating, the manager announced that she was leaving and that Ethan was now in charge. The patrons clapped and cheered. I adore this kind of welcoming environment. In addition, Gigi's is a no tip establishment, so I appreciate that they treat their employees well. I can't wait to go back and visit with friends. Third time eating at Gigi's, and the food the so delicious. Service is excellent. Cute, cozy space with multiple types of seating. Definitely will continue to make this a favorite on my families rotation of eateries. Also, they are having high tea events this spring. We absolutely love this awesome little neighborhood spot. Gigi's is famous for their Liège waffles and have a ton of inventive sweet and savory ways to eat them. This place was great! They start you off with taster waffles which are amazing. If you didn't want to commit to waffles for your meal the taster hits the spot. But if you go for their amazing waffles then it's just a preview of what's to come. I got the chicken and waffles, and my husband got the scrapple and enjoyed it. I got so much chicken that I had half of it the next day. It's a gluten free batter on the chicken which left a nice crunch. We got there early so we didn't have to wait. Old woman in the front of the restaurant was extremely rude. She called our names but we didn't hear because obviously its loud outside. But she decided to tell the other customers in the store " i called their names and they don't even know their own names." She was very unhygienic and rude. This place is popular! I saw families came here for breakfast non stop! I am not sure if this is their normal thing. We got some sample waffles when we sat down. Good local coffee serving right away. Lots of choices on the menu to choose from. While I was waiting for the food, I noticed the assuming owner of this place is very friendly. Seems like he recognized most of his customers. I ordered the chicken waffles. Chicken was still moist and the waffles are nice and soft inside while outside just right. Overall the place is cozy. I was surprised when I paid. I handed over my credit card and the gentle didn't need me to sign or asked for tips. I am not sure if that is their normal business model. But that what tips should be, voluntary. My second time here . Of all the good reviews , I did not see anything with those descriptions on my plate . All was so.............underwhelming . Didn't mind that the tip was rolled into final tally , but , seems that there is no incentive on the kitchens part . Under performing . My breakfast certainly is not memorable . The tempo , here , is about the neighborhood regs. Odd that my server kept eye contact away from me . But that contributes to the eerie vibe . More discerning than anything good. An older woman came over and told us we couldn't bring in outside drinks (we had just bought a coffee down the street) and that they had to stay up front at the register. I understand the rule, especially since they're a no-tip restaurant and want customers to purchase everything there, but the delivery felt abrupt and not very welcoming. I guess I should've read the Yelp reviews more closely because others mentioned similar experiences. We still stayed and decided to eat, but the visit wasn't very pleasant. I hoped the food would make up for it, but it was underwhelming. I had fruit and potatoes that were pretty burnt, and my partner's two-egg breakfast came out with over-medium eggs cooked well-done. She was noticeably extra warm with the regulars next to us, but her kindness toward us felt forced. The only person who genuinely felt welcoming was a gal with cute reading glasses. In situations like this, I place responsibility on the owners for not training staff to kindly let guests know about the drink policy right when they walk in. Maybe even allow people to finish their coffee up front before seating them. I would honestly prefer a place that takes tips over this approach. A step above the usual breakfast joint IMHO, even if it is in a strip mall. Place is much bigger inside than it appears from the parking lot, with a simple unassuming layout. It's spacious but not really cozy. That said, the place to sit is toward the back counter which gives off a more intimate vibe; the huge, front windows only offer great views - of the parking lot. The menu sports a lot of the usual egg dishes but what they're known for are their liege (Belgium) waffles. A little square of a waffle is served up after you sit down as a complimentary sampler (nice!) and honestly, I'm not really a waffle guy, but the chewy goodness if this buttery treat is super-enticing. But I stood firm and opted for the grilled breakfast burrito instead, a wrap packed with warm, perfectly textured potatoes, eggs, a nice chunk of avocado and melty cheese. Not huge, but a mouthful of excellent flavor, and to top it off, their coffee comes out of a big fancy machine that produces a rich cup of java that is miles above the average diner swill. And the cheerful crew will brag to you about it too. As a side note, their prices are higher than you'd expect (my burrito was $20) but that's because the tip is included, and the business pays its employees a living wage, factors in health care and other benefits to reflect what they call "the true cost of eating out."
