This is my favorite breakfast spot around Portland. My favorites are the country fried steak, iced tea, and blueberry pancakes.

Originally found JJ's during pandemic time. Almost always stop by for brunch, although had both breakfast and lunch food. I have enjoyed salads, club sandwiches, eggs Benedict, and their corned beef hash. My favorite is the avocado toast. Coffee is always hot and ready and the service is friendly. Sometimes it's a bit chilly in there for me but I almost always dress in layers cause I'm typically cold! read more

Every time i eat here i wonder why i don't do it more! The food is always hot and fresh. The staff are really sweet and friendly, and you don't have to scream to have a conversation with someone across the table from you. Most recently we both had huevos rancheros. they were really tasty and prepared well. The hash browns that came with them were perfect as well. Crispy on the outside, still moist on the in, and flavorful. The price is really affordable as well - maybe that's thanks to the fact that they don't have a bar so they can't tempt you with a special beverage to go with your meal. ;) The only complaint i've ever had is that the parking can be tricky, but it's worth the effort. read more

We have been here a lot and we have great meals and experience each time. I love getting the breakfast specials because a lot of time they are seasonal - like the pumpkin pancakes today! The food has a lot of flavor and tastes fresh! We mainly come for the breakfast food and there are a lot of options for everyone in your party. He have had great customer service each time as well. I came here for lunch on a second date. I was kinda hungry because I did a long run earlier that morning. I settled on breakfast for my meal because breakfast is good at any time of day,. I ordered two eggs with bacon, hashbrowns, and fruit. The waitress said the kitchen could accommodate my food sensitivity to gluten and dairy. Overall, my meal hit the spot to include a nice big cup of coffee. My day also enjoyed his meal. There is some parking available within the small strip mall. read more

We loved the coffee! Dark and Flaverful. Denver omelet: diced ham, eggs enveloped and cheese and on top sliced tillamook cheese! Ordered the peppers potatoes, slice whole wheat bread and homemade jam! Delicious! Service the timely and diningroom neat. read more

This was a result the 3-2-1 game. (i pick three places, you narrow it down to two. i pick the one we're going to! JJ's Cafe won! I had a benedict while the rest of the table ordered omlets, scrambles and a waffle. Everything looked delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy what they had! (the boy said the biscuit was really good!) I was a bit worried when we walked in because the place was empty, but as we sat and waited and chatted, it filled right up. Evidently we were just there a little early (trust me, for a saturday, it was too early). I would certainly come back.... if i was in the area. I, personally, think breakfast is the easiest meal to cook - but JJ's Cafe did a good job!! read more

Yummy in our tummy. Great avocado, chips, and salsa. Son loved his strawberry crepes. Other son loved his pumpkin pancakes and bacon. I loved my Southwest Omelette and biscuit. I'll probably go for the potatoes over the hash browns next time. My wife was disappointed that they didn't have real cream for her coffee. Great service and clean. It's in an awkward shopping area when it's just hard to have a business that thrives. But SW Portland needs more great breakfast spots, so I hope they get the business they need. I used to love this place! We had a great server named, Simba and would insist that she served us each time. -we love her still. On 2 occasions, we tipped her $100 (not cash) as we saw the need. Later we found out that Luptia stole her tips both times! Lupita is never friendly and is running that cafe into the ground. She is always VERY rude and I cannot believe she works in the food service industry! -I just hope Josué can see what is hurting his wonderful talent! After 3 years of being there religiously, I now cannot come back to this place and it STILL BURNS ME that the tips of $100 were stolen both times! (On top of multiple other times I can't speak to.) Service is always great! Fast, friendly and attentive. I like the large menu offerings and the good coffee, which can be lacking in other restaurants. Their cinnamon rolls are a bit spendy but they are huge. This is my first time for lunch as I usually always come for breakfast. Good to know that lunch is as good as breakfast here. My husband and I go to this café every week on Friday mornings. We refuse to be served by anyone other than Cinda, who works amazingly hard. We love her bright presence to start our day. She keeps this place running, and she always remembers our order. I always get the strawberry pancakes, over-easy eggs, and bacon. My husband alternates what he gets every week, and we both also (further) splurge on breakfast sandwiches. The food is amazing, warm, and made with care. The cooks know what they are doing and we greatly appreciate how much effort they put into our orders. The breakfast sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had (think elevated McDonald's Sausage biscuits). The price of food is cost-effective. I feel like the quality and quantity are worth what you're paying. The restaurant itself is charming -- cute, small, and welcoming. It reminds me of a small-town café. This is a food café, so if you're interested in specialty coffee, you'll have to look somewhere else. The closest you'll get to specialty coffee is their "mocha" coffee, which is half hot chocolate and half coffee. For the black coffee lovers (us), it doesn't make a difference. Still, it's nice to know. They have a diverse menu, and we love the quality of their ingredients. I believe there's a good selection for vegetarians, but vegans may struggle. We had previously been regulars at a different diner but decided to try this place out. Our previous place had gotten rid of nearly half their menu. The only reason we would quit coming to this establishment is if Cinda left. We know we're not alone in this sentiment. She completes the meal! read more

If you're looking for good ingredients, careful preparation and friendly service with a nice variety of foods offered for lunch luncheon breakfast then do come here. I've been eating here for a few months now and I've narrowed my focus on the huevos rancheros and breakfast sandwich with homemade baked biscuit. In both cases, they've been superb orders. I never right reviews and I just have to. Disappointed. I loved jj's for years. Would tell my clients about it. Best basic breakfast in town. But today it was the service that left a horrible taste in my mouth. I came in at about 1:30 and picked a seat. No real greeting but whatever I was hungry. Sat down and ordered a water and coffee and already knew what I wanted. Avocado eggs Benedict no tomato and the eggs poached medium. Meaning I like them a lil more poached. But ofcorse still with the yolk able to run. Well when the plate was brought to me the server said nothing and went about her way. I noticed tomato. But was like whatever I can remove it if I want myself. I ate the first one and it was fine. Then I cut into the second one and a clear egg white goo bubble and ran down the food. I raised my hand to the server and said I'm sorry I can't eat this it's not cooked. I showed her clear as day. Looked like clear snot. She took the plate to the kitchen and in front of me in Spanish went back and forth about the egg in question. Then she waits a few minutes and says coldly he is makeing you another plate. I say Thankyou back and not a kind word acknowledging me or that duh it wasn't cooked. Then I get my plate and as if a fuck you the cook basically hard boiled the egg. At this point I'm like whatever I'm hungry atleast it's cooked. But the whole experience was bad service. I'm sick of spending my hard earned money in places that have this cold attitude towards customers. Like I'm not the enemy here. So disappointed i will not be going back. Bad vibes. read more

The food was good! I think it's pretty hard to mess up pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon however. The bacon was soft yet crispy and the pancakes were fluffy. The hash browns were also crisped that aren't pictured. The overall rating would've been at least four stars if the service wasn't so bad. Although they were busy, the lack of attentiveness was astonishing. I noticed a couple leave because they had been waiting to get their order taken for so long. Don't wait for the bill because you won't get it, so if you're ready to go, ask for it. If you have your card ready, bring it to them because they won't come back to service you. read more

This wasn't what I was expecting, but it's clearly a nice local breakfast spot. We usually go to Original when we are on Barbur, but Hubs wanted a waffle, and Yelp recommended this spot. It's in a very tight strip mall that has 80's stainless signs that have seen better days. But walking in reminded me of La Provence in its original incarnation: when it was just a basic bistro with yellow walls and burgundy accents (in the 90's). The menu seems very much like Biscuits, including a scramble with spinach, onions, bacon and Parmesan. They are also one of the only restaurants (besides Biscuits) that has Chipotle Tabasco sauce, which is my favorite. My scramble was delicious. The Parmesan broiled on top was definitely a game changer! Hubs said it was a "damn good waffle" This place deserves to be busier, so do your thing, Yelp! read more

We were dropping a car at the muffler shop just up the street at "breakfast" time so stopped in for breakfast. The only downside was it was chilly inside (maybe low 40s outside, January) so bring a sweater if it's cold weather. The server was super nice and fun and the food was very good. Hubby had a burrito and I had the ham Benedict. Great prices, too. We live right by a biscuits that we go to a lot but the food, service and better prices make this an attractive alternative even though a fair distance farther away. read more

JJ's is in a small strip mall off Barbur which would be very easy to miss as I have apparently done so dozens of times. The parking lot is up an incline and tight. Yelper's, you got us good. This is not a 4 plus star restaurant. I had the chicken fajita omelet. Sounds good, right? Picture chicken fajitas in an omelette! Yeah, it wasn't even close. Spouse had Chilaquiles with chorizo. The meat cost extra. The server asked how she wanted her eggs. We'll never know how those were because the dish came without the eggs. Due to a non-related spitting on her food incident she will not send food back. She said it was delicious none the less. My gripe is we were charged extra for the chorizo but got no eggs. I asked for no cheese on my omelette. It came with. I sent mine back because I can't eat cheese. My dish was bland and cheese would not have helped. It would just have added 300 calories. Two dishes. Both wrong. You decide. Personally, I'd go elsewhere. There are a LOT of restaurants in Portland. read more

A nice little restaurant. The service was friendly. The menu is full of diner comfort favorites. I had the JJ's Scramble. I had them leave out the potatoes and was still only able to eat a third of it. It was quite good. My partner got the meat lovers scramble and must have liked it as there was nothing left!
