The crowd is pretty mixed: college students, 20-30-something townies, and throw in a couple old guys. The staff here is so friendly! I love the bartenders. They're always happy to replenish my water and never make me feel guilty for not ordering a drink (yeah, I know, I'm lame). When my friend moved away from Appleton, we threw her a goodbye party here because this was always her favorite bar. The group of us took up all of the tables and the staff was very attentive to all of us. The bartenders even played jukebox music just for us. The locals were as friendly as usual and chatted with some of us. What I love about Jim's Place is that it's laid-back (though not as much as, say, The Nickel) and you can still easily have a conversation with someone instead of yelling over the music. Also, the way the bar is set up makes it pretty easy to chat with people you don't know, which I like. Fun fact: I hung out with my professor here once!

Mostly chill but there are a few (seem like regulars) that are really off putting. Don't try to just strike up a conversation with the person beside you. So rude. Love the little details in the wood moldings and floors and stained glass and that they've kept the "vintage" looks of this older building that contribute to an atmosphere of uniqueness. Most places are rushing to modernize and make everything look simple and cookie cutter, its beautiful to spend time in a place that embraces the history they're working with instead of stripping it down. Not a lot of bathrooms/stalls in it, but it was very clean and well kept up. The bar area is a bit cramped and narrow, but it's history as a discrete speakeasy in an now alcohol heavy town makes it seem charming. My friends and I have had a great time here for concerts and birthday/anniversary parties and excited to go back for more. *Steep flight of stairs to get up there though with no elevators so maybe not ADA compliant

A bartender told me they don't have a special drink, it's basically any drink you want with more booze in it...was very tempted to get and old fashioned in a fish bowl lol. They serve food here too. Didn't take much of a look, but it seems similar to a lot of other bar food. I've had friends that go here for karaoke too. Overall it's a fun spot and would check it out again.

I assume it was because the Packers didn't win, however, the hosts were friendly and brought food around for everyone to sample and everyone was having a great time. The Ladder House was clean and had all the trappings of being a great, fun place to meet and enjoy a drink with friends. They have a lot of TV's so you can see the game from almost every angle. Everything is easily accessible, and having a hotel just a short walk away made the entire weekend seamless for us and our guests. Poplar Hall offered fantastic food recommendations, an awesome bar menu, and--best of all--a coordinator included with the venue. And let me tell you... Nikki is extraordinary. She was the calm, organized, joyful presence every bride hopes for. Throughout the planning process, she met with us, guided us, and always knew exactly what needed to be done and when. On the wedding day, she made sure everything ran flawlessly and kept me completely stress‑free. She decorated for us, ran our rehearsal (even though it wasn't held at Poplar Hall), and handled cleanup so that at the end of the night all we had to do was load our boxes and head out. She even referred to me as "Mrs." all night long and again on our final invoice--such a small detail, but one that meant so much. Poplar Hall is breathtaking, and Nikki is truly a gem. I am endlessly grateful that we chose this venue. I would recommend Poplar Hall to any couple looking for a beautiful space and a coordinator who genuinely cares about making your day perfect.
