I had some time to kill and was in the mood for a beer. I've never been to Dr. Jekyll's and since it was nearby, I thought I'd give it a try. When you walk in, it looks like a tiny little bar. As you walk through, there's a whole other space with pinball, darts, and more tabling. They also have a small outdoor patio as well. They have an okay numbers of taps, but what also caught my attention was their can/bottle beer selection. They were all craft beers, not just from WI but other breweries that are uncommon in our area. I ended up getting Central Waters Strawberry Milkshake IPA. I've had their Mango IPA and the bartender said the Strawberry one was good, which he's right. He really seemed to know his beer which is a plus in my book. Each can and bottle had a small sticker with the price on it. That's probably helpful not just the bartender but for customers. To me it looked like most of the beers were $1 more than I would see at some other bars. Maybe they don't sell a lot from that cooler. Even though it was empty (it was late afternoon), it still had a cool vibe to it, and would consider going here again to hang out and grab a beer with a friend. read more

I've been in this place at least 5 times and every time the owner and bartenders show a very rude attitude toward customers. Especially international folks, it feels like they hate them, which is high key sad. This bar has a nice atmosphere, but bartenders make it worse. They don't treat customers like they are supposed to. read more

This is my all time favorite bar. All. Time. Favorite. Ever. Of any bar, in any city, anywhere. I fucking love Jekylls. It was the number one thing out of 4 things that I was sad about leaving when I was moving away from Appleton. The people that work here are amazing and so so so nice. They serve you up some good drinks and they aren't too spendy. The decor inside is pretty sweet, there are christmas lights woven in and out of things and there are some neat light fixture thingies hanging from the ceiling. The smoker's garden outside is the coolest part of this bar. I'm not a smoker, but I hung out here all the time. There is an awning that extends from the wall of the bar that has 2 huge heaters to keep the smokers nice and toasty. If you go out there in the winter time, you'll feel like you're indoors. They have it decorated in a tropical theme and there is actually even a small waterfall! It has a really cool ambiance about it. Plus there are some nice benches and plenty of tables to sit at. I love love love the outdoor patio!!!!!!!!!! I miss this bar. I miss it so much. It's to the point that I have been seriously considering making the 5 hour drive across Wisconsin to go visit it again. *sigh* read more

Superbly super place! Best/most unique decor of any bar not only on the ave but also in Appleton. Everytime Ive gone here my ears have been over joyed with the buzz of 80s/90s music gems playing throughout the bar/patio! The beer garden/patio area is beautiful and one of a kind. Hidden gnomes and lawn decorations are perfectly displayed on the patio. Wood tables and chairs make for an authentic and fun feel outside. Ive never had a bad drink, bad bartender, or bad time here! read more

I love College street and all the unique bars it contains, but I'll always remember Jekyll's because of the interior, and it's also the first time that I tried an "Ole Fashion". When my friend Lacy said, that she'd take me for one, I said "what the hell is that?!?!" Now, I know, and I love them (I prefer just the Spanish olives), but it sucks for me because it's virtually impossible getting a good one here on the West coast. Ron, Sue and staff make you feel right at home, whether you are a regular or haven't visited in awhile. Great decor and good drinks. The smoking area outside is extremely unique. It is heated in the cooler times, and in the summer has a jungle/tropical theme. There is a waterfall with tropical plants and is the best outdoor cocktail area in the city. I love this place and not only because my boyfriend's sister, Angie works here.........I think during our 7 day trip to Appleton, we were in this place 6 nights.......maybe every night, I don't remember. It gives to me a diner styled vibe, but obviously its a bar. Same kind of counter tops though, but with the added flair of the owners, Ron and Sue, like Buddha's everywhere, disco balls, a jukebox, beer "garden" patio with a waterfall, tables and chairs for people to hang outside to chill, smoke and drink, Foosball, darts, great bartenders, and plenty of fans and regulars to make sure that you have a good time. I wish they could have a Jekyll's in SF, I don't how to explain it: it was divey in the sense that it was unpretentious and fun and not stuffy, but it wasn't divey because it was clean, and eclectic also. read more

My favorite tavern in Apple city. Love the selection of beers. Good music. This is where my fiancé first kissed me. Awww.... Decor in the bathrooms is fun. I like the vibe here and just striking up a conversation with the person sitting next to you, a real actual good conversation. This is the thinking man's bar on the ave. Dr. Jekyll's is my "Cheers" bar; my favorite destination when I want to relax and unwind with a few friends in a cozy, non-pretentious atmosphere. The unique decor (Buddhas and disco balls?! Ron and Sue make it work!) has been recently enhanced with a lovingly decorated heated and enclosed outdoor beer garden to accomodate their smoking patrons (and those who want to soak up a few rays as well as cocktails on a warm, sunny day). This bar located on the far east end of downtown College Avenue has been a staple for decades. The staff is friendly. They have just about any whiskey you want. It has a unique ambience. There is a courtyard that is partially covered, heated in the winter. (Allows smoking in patio) they have ski ball! The owner, Ron, is just the nicest guy! I recommend this place to anyone who wants a real taste of Appleton Downtown. read more

It was ok. I guess my opinion is skewed because I was there early in the night, but overall it just seemed like any other number of similar places. There was no music and the TV was on for some sports event. The smoking lounge outside certainly is done up nicely thought. A fine selection of drafts, but it just didn't excite me all that much. read more

Hooray for dives with great prices. They also have darts and skeeball which is very addictive. I had a 2 dollar local draft and my wife had a 3 dollar well. One thing i did notice is there blue label is 25 a drink vs 20 at a place in Oshkosh. read more

Jekyll's is definitely the hipster bar on College Ave. Their drinks are moderately priced for the Ave. I definitely prefer it to Anduzzi's and The Bar, but I'm giving it a lower rating because the bar owner was incredibly rude to my girlfriend when she told him he was making my drink wrong. I haven't been back since, but I probably will some day. read more

Jekyll's is the first bar I ever went to in Appleton, and it continues to be one of the only bars I like. When a place is this great, why go anywhere else!? It's such a (nice) departure from the bars that take up the rest of "the Ave." The jukebox is killer, the smoking garden is awesome (and I'm not even a smoker), and the pictures of naked dudes in the lady's room are, well, pretty fantastic. Ron and Sue are amazing bartenders/owners and treat you like family while serving you a wide selection of reasonably priced beer and cocktails. read more

We decided to end our night here after bar hopping for a few hours. Right when we got in, a member of our group needed to use the restroom and asked where they were, to which the bartender simply replied "are you planning on buying something or are you just coming here to piss?". I ordered a beer and two of my buddies that were feeling a little sick asked for a glass of water, and they were told to "go home if you want water, I'm trying to run a business here". Keep in mind that we were entirely planning on ordering plenty more drinks before we walked in, we were just talking a small breather at that moment. Even as the night progressed, it was obvious that they didn't care about any customers that weren't regulars. It took nearly twenty minutes to order a second beer because the bartenders were very obviously just outright ignoring us, even when we spoke up. They were trying to make it clear that they wanted us to leave. Overall the atmosphere feels boring and crowded and doesn't really stand out from any other bar in town, but the sheer level of disrespect and hostility that we were shown will ensure that we will never step foot near this place again, and encourage all others to do the same. If you're thinking about spending some time here one night, do yourself a favor and choose any of the other dozens of quality bars in Appleton. 0/10: Will never visit again. read more
