This is my go to place to buy food for my dog. It's pretty close to my house and they have nice parking lot. They mostly have three to four brands of dog food. Purina, Pedigiree, Nutrish and one other one I don't remember the name. My dog loves Purina and Nutrish. They have a couple of nice options of meat mixed with veggies and grains. As my dog is older, she loves the Nutrish as it is easy on her gums. We stopped giving her much kibbles and rely on the Nutrish dog food. Overall, the store is nice and clean. Made a special trip here after work, which was easy enough because the store is a short walk from train and bus lines. So it's transit accessible, in theory. When I walked in, the security guard informed me that my bookbag-sized backpack would not be allowed in the store, Nor would they store the bag for me while I shopped. I'm lucky that I can go elsewhere. And I will. But I'm sorry for those who live nearby and get treated like criminals for trying to buy groceries and carry them home. read more

I walked in, went in the isle to get what I needed. "Security " ran up to me saying they need to tag my bag incase I steal?? Im confused because I walked past her when I entered and she didn't pay me any mind. Not only that, I've worn this bag several times while in this store without this ever occurring & there were plenty of people who had bags bigger than mine who were allowed to walk freely without being profiled. When I checked out, she insists that she had to search my bag which she didn't end up doing because I told her she'd have to take it from me. I was visiting a tenant close by in the neighborhood, and I noticed this store was right next to the big hardware store. I needed a few things for my refrigerator, so I stopped over here quickly. The first section I passed was the produce area, and I got a Dole pineapple, some bananas, and 6 mandarins. The salad bar was right there, so I created my own healthy salad for dinner tonight. It had all of the ingredients that I love including black olives, some chicken breast slices for protein, and chic peas. They didn't have kidney beans on the salad bar which was a bummer. I moved on to get a loaf of whole wheat breat, peanut butter, and a container of chicken breasts. Finally a prepared chicken Cesar wrap to bring with me for lunch. Today I visited the store to pick up food from the hot bar for dinner. As usual, they had the same over-battered fish filets, some dried up looking chicken drumettes and the same tired potato wedges! Your prepared foods offering is lame. Is the best you can offer the community you serve? All options are fried with no cooked vegetables or baked items to choose from. Before I wrote this review I called the store. I was hung up on by the man who took my call. I called back to inquire about the prepared foods selection and why it was so limited. I finally hung up after holding to speak to the manager. Don't wonder why folks expect the least from urban locations. Y'all don't even try. read more

It has very bad customer service with rude employees. Speaking to a manager seems either impossible or useless. It appears managers do not speak with customers. They're busy, they only speak to employees and/or they don't take calls. You're treated badly, get bad service and when you try to speak to a manager they're unavailable. read more

They won't assume any responsibility for it when forced to leave it at the door either (even with the standing cop there telling you can't take it in). They want to treat us like criminals, fine. The store is okay. The produce is decent. The bakery & seafood departments were nice. It is a typical Giant store.

The Space: This Giant is a decent size because it is bigger than the Ivy City Target. They do have a parking lot, deli section, hot bar, bakery section, and 6 self checkout stations. The parking lot also has recently install electric vehicle charging stations. The only thing I've ran into is that on weekends, there may be a line for the self checkout and the Giant is just crowded overall. Everything is usually pretty stocked, it just has a weird smell. The Staff: There are usually plenty of workers around for you to flag down if you have a question. My experience with the workers is that they are not the most attentive. They are usually hanging out and chatting and not really paying attention when you need help and can be hard to flag down. It is especially frustrating when items are not priced correctly or the discounts from your card don't apply. The Groceries: The groceries here are pretty standard, but usually in stock. To be honest, I only visit Giant as oppose to the Ivy City Target for Tilamook ice cream and grab and go pre-made food like their lobster mac and cheese ($10) and their sushi ($9 - $14). read more

The giants store in district heights Maryland has poor customer service. I shop there because they're close to me but I try to avoid them because of service. On Friday January 12 2024 at 3pm I saw dove soap in the ad for 2/7.00. I had to wait in the customer service desk 15min plus they had to unlock them due to thief. None of the soap came up with the correct sale price. After approximately 30min combined in line and checking she called for the assistant manager. She checked each item in varies way but didn't come up correct. I asked the store manager Mr. Johnson could he adjust the price. This Giant is in the same complex as Home Depot with plenty of parking out front. The store itself is big, but it is not kept very well and the aisles can get crowded. They do have many self-checkout lanes, which is helpful. read more

The parking lot for the Giant is a nightmare. It's dirty, and dangerous. I have watched to many near accidents in this parking lot.

Fruit flies all over produce, expired dairy products and only 2 cashiers with 20 people in line on a Saturday. Avoid at all costs.

What can I say - this Giant gets the job done. I can't recall ever coming in here and being uberly disappointed... or ecstatic for that matter. That is until last night. I have to give them major props for having sweet potato pies the day after Thanksgiving. I was craving one like crazy, didn't feel like making it from scratch, and feared none of the grocery stores would have them. Bless you Giant for proving me wrong (lip smacking ensues). There is ample parking for anyone who drives and a metro next door for those who don't, the store is pretty huge and has a nice selection (the produce section is great but the bakery could step its game up a bit), and the lines aren't that bad. At least not whenever I go. And I have yet to encounter any rude staff. Not much to praise or complain about. All in all, it's a grocery store. After a horrible experience at the Home Depot accross the enormous parking lot, I went to this Giant seeking to find at least a chain store that would cater to at least my grumbling and bile-filled stomach. I'm happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised at the experience. The only reason for the 3 vs 4 star was the lines, inordinately long for a store this size. But that day the store was having 50% discount on meats and cheeses. I stocked up on both. Their Boar's Head Roast Beef was about the leanest I've seen. The employees were attentive and knowledgeable, a definite plus with me. And their deli personnel were great. I had a positive experience at this store. If I ever make it back to the Home Depot again, I'll have to stop by this store also. read more

The produce selection at this GIant is vast and fresh, and the aisles are kept generally in good condition. I'm always able to find what I need at reasonable prices and get out of there without too must hassle. The neighborhood is growing and becoming more desirable, with more and more yuppies saturating the up-and-coming residential areas of Brookland, Edgewood, and Eckington. The store is unable to keep up with capacity and thus weekend grocery shopping becomes a battle of finding the best aisle only to be stuck behind someone whose credit card was declined (happened once or twice). You're probably better off going to the Safeway in City Vista or the Harris Teeter in Noma, although those neighborhoods are growing exponentially with folks also crowding up the lines. Nevertheless, it's convenient to me and in a pinch will suffice as my go-to grocery place. read more

The store is always relatively clean and the large isles make it easy to navigate. My only issue is the inconsistency with their fruits/veggies. Specifically, there have been times when I have purchased their blueberries, get them home only to find that they have started to 'turn'. Not the end of the world, but frustrating non the less. Blessed to have a Giant so close to my home. Also I really appreciate the fact that it's no frills and it's main focus is just selling groceries for everyday families like mine. I don't need organically grown, prayed over by nuns, pre-peeled, hydrated, and then dehydrated oranges. Giant has a large selection of fresh fruits and produce all year around at very reasonable prices. Today I purchased strawberries 2/$4 which is pretty amazing. They even have organic options is that's what you prefer. They have a deli with fresh cut meats and cheese, salad bar, and already cooked meals like wings and macaroni and cheese. They have so many check out lanes but only about half of them ever seem to be in operation. This place would run so much faster if all registers were in operation especially at peek hours. read more

I have to come here periodically because it is by my house, but it is usually an unpleasant experience - it is common to wait in line for 15-20 minutes, even when there are only 2-3 people in front of you. Produce supply is limited and not fresh. read more

This Giant is the closest grocery store to my apartment, which is unfortunate because it really sucks. I feel truly sorry for the people who think this store contains fresh produce because both times I have been here the produce has been disgusting. I picked through pounds of rotting apples recently to walk away empty handed. The fruit and vegetables are mostly not good, and I think the employees handle everything roughly. I have boxes of smashed cookies, Cheez-Its, and chips that I purchased at this Giant as well. The one nice thing is that they have a large selection of freezer items, which is helpful. There is a parking lot, but it's packed with homeless people and people hanging out looking for work. I have had no issues with anyone in the lot, but I also have been told not to walk here or go at night. read more

Funny story (not haha funny): I wanted to make vegetable soup once. I bought a ton of weird vegetables from Giant's lovely produce section. While waiting in line there was a commotion. A man in the line next to me had dry humped the leg of a woman in the bakery section and now the off-duty police in the store came to show him the door. The man started getting angry, swearing loudly as the police walked towards him, shoving people (including me) as he walked away from police. As he went, he flashed his gun. The Police followed him outside where he pulled his gun, and they shot him dead. Everyone was locked in the store while police stood at the checkout lines questioning everyone in the store. During the yelling and shoving and gun flashing part of this episode, my vegetables were being scanned. My cashier picked up a ridiculous looking vegetable and, visibly shaken by the event going on around her, asked what it was, yelling to another cashier a few rows down. "I think it's called Anus" came the reply. And for a moment the whole store forgot that their lives were imperiled by stray bullets, as the stopped to laugh at my Anise (anus). I kept returning to the store for their beautiful reasonably priced produce section. So why only three stars? It has nothing to do with the store's lead content, no, it has everything to do with LINES! I spend half my time at this grocery store waiting in line. No exaggeration! Last time I was here (two days ago), there were only two self checkout lines one of which was closed. Cashiers move impossibly slowly, lines extend deep into the aisles, and there is no "off time" When the Columbia Heights Giant's opened, I never returned (except two days ago). Closer, same good produce, nicer meat section, faster lines, and as of yet, no loss of life. read more

Great prices but not the best product availability. Each Giant is great about catering to the sample of people in the area and I guess that this one just isn't for me. There aren't many healthy products here, I'm talking mostly meat and specialty. If you want organic meats, you will have to go to another store, or if you cater to a specialty diet, like gluten free or vegan, you may have to go somewhere else to get your daiya cheese or gluten free waffles. I came here and ended up having to go somewhere else. I will say a few things that this place is very clean and that the people who work here are very friendly. This place has the basic essentials but nothing above and beyond from that. read more

I don't get the crying about this store. They have a decent selection and they run out during rush days and times (1st of the month, right before a snow storm, Sundays). It happens. I'm never in line for long and the workers are nice and helpful. If you want fancy head over to Whole Foods and Wegman's. For the basics at a good price this Giant will do. read more

I agree, this Giant location definitely gets the job done and for me, is a better alternative to that horrid Harris Teeter by the New York Avenue Metro stop. They are not fancy by any means, but the customer service trumps my local Harris Teeter's and that counts for a lot in my book. I found everything I needed here and you actually have staff that walks you to the aisle to show you what you are looking for instead of trying to remember what aisle it's in or not even knowing what you are talking about, they actually do know. I wanted anchovy fillets in olive oil -- bam! He took me to the proper location for that. We were even asked by the check out lady if we needed help putting the bags in the car. Use their bonus card and save on gas from Shell. We saved 20 cents a gallon and that does make a difference when you have to fill up at least twice a week. Produce looked okay, not top-notch but I didn't expect it to be either. Suits my needs for what I need and it's easy to find parking in the huge lot so no complaints here! read more

Why am I reviewing Giant? Well all of us can't afford to shop at the specialty stores. So for those of you don't want to go to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's all of the time this is for you. When I moved to DC I was excited that I lived close to several grocery stores. Well when I entered them I realized that they were all crap. Dirty and rotting everything. Even the Safeway Georgetown was a piece of crap. So I took my meager non-profit salary to Whole Foods weekly. Then came a date where we would cook together. He lived near Trinity so the Giant near the Rhode Island Avenue metro was between our homes. We went there and I couldn't believe how clean and well stocked this place was. After that I would rent a zip car every two weeks just to go to this Giant. It's metro accessible but I didn't want to go in a circle. I have since found out that the G8 Bus goes to this Giant as well. So if you are looking for groceries and you don't need/want a specialty store just a regular grocery store go here. They have since changed half of their lanes to self check out which makes every thing inefficient otherwise I would give them 4 stars. read more

I can't do big shopping trips often because I don't have a car. Today I had one, so I went to the nearest grocery store to me on my errands route with a parking lot. It was 11:30am on a Monday, and the parking lot was pretty full and lots of people pushing carts inside. And either this grocery store is too big for me or I went in not having enough caffeine, or both. Felt like it took me a long time to get through here. I soon realized how spoiled I am by Washington Green Grocers. We had to skip the box this week because we were out of town from Wed-Sun. I needed produce bad. I was surprised that I couldn't find simple items in the produce section like green onions. There were leeks, but no green onions?? Weird. The peppers were also wrinkly, so they must have been sitting around for a while. In other departments, I was also let down. This Giant doesn't carry the crab-stuffed salmon wheels that the Giant in Columbia Heights carries. I also couldn't find Swiffer products in the cleaning section (that miiight have been me). A big bonus of this Giant is that so many things are on sale in a major way. Like 2 bottles of decent wine for $5.50 or 3 cans of assorted beans for $3.00 (big win because I was planning to make chile). Conclusion: I'm glad that I could pick up a 6-pack of paper towels and 12-pack of T.P. today, but I think I'll just try to make sure I'm in town long enough on Fridays to get our veggies box, and stick to items I can carry with my bike and a backpack. read more

Get out your mittens and long-johns, Lucifer. That's right, Hell has frozen over; I am happily awarding a 3-star rating to this Giant. Having gone through a couple weeks of construction, this Giant is now totally redone, and not just visually. They are now stocking better items and in larger volume. The produce section is greatly improved, the bakery items now look appetizing, the hot and cold bars are well-kept, and above all the check-out lines are moving quicker. It's still not perfect, but I actually don't dread coming here anymore. It is often easy to criticize corporations, but in this case I have to give major kudos to Giant's upper management for investing in my neighborhood. read more

This is your typical Giant. Prices are average. Selection is average. Lines are horrendously long (it took me 25 minutes from getting in line to getting to my car). On the way out, a sketchy guy asked me if I wanted to buy a kitten (which he had in a travel carrier). Fun times. read more

Everytime I've been here, it was clean and the workers were polite and helpful whenever I needed something. Even when I inquired about getting hired, they gave me all of the information, plus some. Although, some things they do I frequently dislike; too much clutter in the aisles and sometimes the conveyor belts are a bit sticky or have unidentifiable dried liquids. Not to mention they constantly have deals on items that no one really buys, and only once in a blue moon do they have deals on things that are purchased often. Overall, though, the selection is nice, things are frequently categorized and the customer service is excellent. As well as this giant being very accessible for me. read more

I've never actually been to this Giant, I live in boston. But everytime i call here they hang up on me before I can even get a question off. I've called 4 times over the past two days and without fail they have hung up on me. Bad customer service they treat people really bad from other cultures. When I was in store I felt like a target.

They sold some ok food and some bad. Bad was from the bakery. I would not recommend this store to friends.
