This store routinely closes over 10 minutes early. I normally shop across the street at Safeway which always closes at 12am on the dot, but due to recent shortages they are often completely out of random items. For example, I went to Safeway at 11:15pm this evening and they were out of chicken. I mean ALL chicken, not just one brand or type. I normally eat .5-1lb. of chicken per day and needed to restock for the week. So I checked out with the rest of my groceries and promptly drove to Giant to ensure I would have enough time to buy chicken without inconveniencing the employees by showing up less than 5 minutes before closing. I walked to the door, it's locked. I went to the other door; locked as well. Checked my phone... 11:50pm. This has happened to me multiple times now, in fact I suspect they probably do this every night. I then had no choice but to try ordering chicken from dominos, who cancelled my order. So now I'm sitting here writing this, with McDonald's left as my only remaining option this evening. My dinner was supposed to be air fried chicken breast with a side of sweet potatoes, broccoli, spinach, garlic, shallots, and avocado. Sounds incredibly healthy, right? you know what absolutely doesn't? The McDonald's I'm about to eat because I now have literally no other option for hitting my daily protein intake.
A message to the employees of Giant:
look, I know nobody wants to work till 12am on a Sunday night. I get that.
But this is your job; you signed up for this, you're getting payed for this and you're on the clock... not me. You are providing people in this town with an essential resource, not some trivial luxury, and when you routinely close this early you are potentially throwing peoples lives out of whack. I never thought I would ever be pissed enough to write a Yelp review about something, but I'm livid. It would have taken me quite literally 180 seconds to grab 4 or 5 packs of chicken breast, payed, and exited the store by 11:53. As I sit here in your parking lot writing this, I observed you didn't leave the store until 12:15. Do you really think you would have been as inconvenienced by me buying some chicken as you have now inconvenienced me by locking your doors over 10 minutes early? I say "over 10 minutes" because they were already locked at 11:50 with no employees in sight; obviously the doors had already been locked earlier than that. If this were a one time thing, or even two or three, I would have let it slide. I have until now. As I said before, I understand that nobody wants to work late on a Sunday night. But this has happened so many times that it's clearly your usual behavior... and that is pathetically unprofessional.
If you want to close at 11:45pm, then change your hours. Put up a different sign.
Or, ideally, do your job. read more
