We have shopped at other Giant Food locations, including Bay Ridge and Festival Plaza. This one definitely is nicer. It feels more spacious and there are no displays or towers of boxes blocking the aisles. We went in the morning to avoid crowds. They have implemented all of the pandemic protocols, including one way signs in the aisles. I observed personnel sanitizing the belts at the checkout. They were pretty well stocked, including chicken and meat--plenty of paper towels but no TP. The checkout person in the lane we chose was a young man who was not very pleasant or talkative, and he forgot to deduct for the two store coupons I had given him. So...just last week I went shopping & picked up a jerk marinade. In the glass jar, nothing wild. When I got home and was ready to marinate my salmon, I noticed that the jar was hard to open.. with paint chipping from the top, it was just weird for what I figured was a good item. TELL ME WHY IN 2026, THE JERK MARINADE EXPIRED IN 2024. Luckily I had not prepared the meal further and following day took my item back to customer service. The customer service cashier Kate, was able to not only refund me the money, but gave me additional Giant gas points and a store credit to use for later. I am saddened to hear that Kevin [the previous Manager] has been replaced. So, that I am willing to shop at the Store He has been positioned. For this reason, or that, I hope that new Manager will continue to focus on the Employee Customer Service Training, and expectation. Especially, where it is weakest, in the Deli Department. Some of those long-term Giant ladies need to move on: in need of customer service training. But, in other departments too. I love the Edgewater Giant. But, willing to patronize other, more-customer service oriented, options. Giant Prices are, yet, another factor. read more

I think this is an exceptional Giant Food store. I drive all the way from Bay Ridge / Annapolis this store - past two other Giants. It is very large and has a very open feeling. During my last visit I couldn't find any "Liquid Smoke" for my dinner plans and I found a very helpful gentlemen stocking shelves. I asked him and he worked very diligently to find it. It was recently moved and he never gave up. It turned out that the labels were not facing front but since he went into the back and looked up the location, we found it. Sounds minor but I really don't know how I would have gotten that kind of service at my nearest Giant. Sorry. They have a lot of check out lines staffed with REAL PEOPLE! Imagine that? This is a great local grocery store. It's not super updated and visually appealing, but they very rarely run out of stock and Giant overall has great prices and a solid store brand. We shop at Costco for the big things, and then fill in the remainder with Giant/Whole Foods. Giant brand is really good stuff so we save a ton of money there, and their Scan It system is extremely convenient. Not only can you use the handheld scanners they have set up, but you can download the app and just use the scanner on your phone. That means I can walk in, scan my stuff with my phone, and use Google Pay at self checkout all while being able to pack my groceries directly in my own bags and not having to fiddle with anything at checkout. It's really fantastic. That plus they're clearly always try to offer better services such as order online for pickup, and grocery delivery via Peapod. I don't use those services, but I think it's great that they offer them. read more

I was just told 7 minutes before my pick up time that my order would be cancelled due to technical issues that they have been having all day. I just got back into town and had ordered groceries last night. I was getting ready to leave to get my groceries, after being out of town, and I got the call. The asst mgr stated that he was told to wait until 10 minutes before the pick up time in case the system came back online. What?! If I had been told earlier I could have planned accordingly. The store mgr got on the line and just kept saying "I understand" and what would you like me to do for you. I shouldn't have to answer that, they should be answering that. Not only do I not get my groceries, the order was totally cancelled. I would have to start all over again. Needless to say, if I want to do online pick up, I will go to Annapolis, what a shame. I do not know this manager, but she was NOT helpful at all. Very disappointed, I have lived here 8 years and have only shopped at this store. read more

If looking for family value and freshness this Giant is the preferred Giant (Edgewater) area vs Riva or Bay Ridge. (This is also the Giant Pea Pod pulls from, if concerned about the freshness of goods to location.)They have a wide assortment of produce & staples for a good price, and the store is well kept ; what's also nice with Giant, is " scan as you go" with a scu gun and self check out. You simply scan your rewards card and ring as you shop, when ready You you scan the barcode and pay the total at the self check out coral. Wow!!!! Tried the pick-up option for the first time. I could not believe how easy it was! I ordered everything I needed online, chose the time I would like to pick it up, pulled into one of the designated parking spots and called to let them know I was there. My order was brought out to me within a minute or two by 2 of the friendliest employees. They explained everything on my bill. If something needed to be substituted they explained why and the difference. They asked where I would like my groceries and loaded everything into my car. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this service and will be using it again and again. The wonderful women who brought out my order and helped me were amazing and really walked me through my first time using the service. So happy to have found this! read more

I cannot say enough good things. I pulled out a rib roast ($66) that I had bought for Christmas and while it didnt expire til january it had discoloration. I called giant they said bring it back. My husband returned it and not only did he get a replacement, they issued a refund, and gave us a meat coupon for free meat in the future. Wow! Talk about treating your customers right. Wow, what a disappointment this new Giant was. Since I live in the area, I was looking forward to seeing what a brand new "Super" Giant would offer. I was expecting some new products, interesting displays, awesome fresh seafood and meat offerings, and a great produce and bakery department. I'm not sure what they were shooting for when they put this place together. Outside, the store looks impressive and high end with the brick exterior, landscaping, and lighting. As you walk inside however, the wattage from the lights are almost blinding and the linoleum floors (gasp) don't do anything to deflect the brightness. The floral shop looked like an afterthought, and the bakery cases seemed to display the same poorly conceived sugary concoctions and bland looking breads that grace most mediocre stores. I also thought the prepared food section might offer some new interesting dishes, but I saw much of the same over dressed coleslaw's, potato salads and such. When I got to the deli counter, I noticed they did not have a system in place yet for taking a number. Wow, kind of glad I wasn't here during the "rush". Yea, Boar Head meats are decent, but with everything but bologna at almost $10/pound, you wonder who can afford to buy this stuff on a regular basis. I was expecting some great pricing, but there was none to be found. Both the meat and seafood depts. were tiny compared to the store's enormous size and I saw nothing that even made me want to pause to investigate further. The old tiny Giant on Rt. 2 would have some interesting things like fresh individually packaged duck breast. Nothing like that here. It was as vanilla as it comes. I didn't spend too much time elsewhere as I completely lost my interest. I perused the frozen food section a bit, just to see if maybe just maybe they may be offering some Home Run Inn pizza's (from Chicago). But alas the cases were dominated by the usual suspects. I did find some NY made frozen bagels 6 for $2.99. Kettle cooked, and man they were good. Don't know if that would make me want to come back. Just doesn't seem like incentive enough. I was also hoping that the neighboring store fronts might bring some new interesting options. Unfortunately, places like the "Hair Cuttery" "Subway", "Panera Bread" aren't that unusual and heck I can find them a couple of miles away. Guess I will stick to my Safeway, Trader Joe's and Wholefoods routine. read more

This is a great supermarket for those in Edgewater. We shop at the Bay Ridge Giant (most of the time), at Sams, sometimes at Shoppers Food Warehouse (a better ethnic mix), and at Fresh Market. I stop here on my way up and down Rt 2 for fill-in grocery shopping. The staff is helpful, the food is fresh, and the aisles are big enough that it takes someone completely oblivious to block traffic. *grin* read more

I shop here when I don't want to go to Safeway, or when I know I'll be placing a deli order, since Giant seems to offer more deli meats/cheeses. A few things I wish this Giant would improve upon: More organic fruits and vegetables. I can't be the only one in the area that wants these. You can usually find organic tomatoes, strawberries, romaine, carrots, but not much else. There is a natural foods aisle, which I love, that has a cooler at one end. This contains soy yogurts, organic creamer, organic eggs and kefir. However, you have to go clear to the other end of the store to get organic milk. I don't understand why these organic products can't also be found in the regular dairy aisle or why the milk isn't also in this cooler. If you're going in for just organic milk and creamer, which I've done before, you hit both ends of the store. It's nice to have that little cooler in the natural foods aisle, but those products should also be found with the regular dairy foods (like most stores) for ease of shopping. Additionally, while you're shopping in the back of the store near the dairy, there are displays in front of ALL the coolers, which makes it extremely difficult to navigate with a shopping cart when there are other customers in the area. My family has been shopping at Giant since the 70's, so when I moved to Edgewater 5 years ago I was happy to have a location so close to home. Unfortunately, every time I go there is a lot of negativity - rude staff. Is it so wrong to expect a smile? I'm irritated the second I notice that my cashier can't bother to look up, smile, say hello - this happens ALL the time. Each time they have a good employee they disappear. I think they are trained to do other things, some I see at other Giants. Anyway, I just leave with such a bad attitude because I'm so pissed off that the cashiers are so blatantly rude, and the baggers destroy my food. Chips go in with sodas, bread goes in with heavy frozen stuff, of course I'm looked at rudely if I say anything about it. On a positive note, I do think that Giant prices are the best, it's a clean store, and for the most part the produce is pretty fresh. There are a lot of nice employees especially in the deli, bakery, and flower shop. It really is the cashiers that could use some customer service training. I gave two stars because it's the cashier that I see last, that I hand over a lot of money to each week. Don't they realize the customer IS their paycheck? The customer service issue has me thinking that Safeway deserves a try. I have gone to other Giant locations but they are not convenient for me. So goodbye for now Giant - for goodness sake, just learn how to smile. read more

I had the best experience for the Giant in Edgewater, MD. I bought a product that was pretty bad and when I called up to complain to the manager she (Heather Wade) took care to make things right. Because I was in an accident and could not walk or drive, and I also had no one to go back to the store and get what I needed replaced. She, the manager sent someone from the store with the product to my house. That was the best customer service I have ever had in my life. KUDOS for both the manager and the employee who helped me in my time of need. read more

I have shopped at Giant Food my whole life.My mother shopped at Giant.The quality has gone way down hill at most stores and the new Edgewater store is no exception.The thing that stands out the most(and really surprises me)is that the produce is often soggy/not fit to eat and we have bought our fair share of meat that ,despite the borderline sell by date,was clearly spoiled(discolored and smelly).This store sucks.There are too many other stores in the area that dont sell spoiled food.I am tired of it. read more
