This is a local grocery store and it is great. Its prices are competitive. The folks who work there know Grau's is special and they go the extra mile to be helpful. Whether it's to find a product tucked away on an aisle or asking for a particular cut of meat at the butcher shop (yes, they come close to a full service butcher shop) the employees are wonderful. Bottom Line: Small, locally owned grocery store. I love the idea of shopping at Graul's - a locally owned and family run grocery store but the charm just doesn't outweigh the cost, limited selection and cramped store for me anywhere. Most recently I popped into Graul's for a few groceries. I enjoyed checking out some of their specialty items like dips, spreads and baked goods and then it was on to checking off my list. One of the items I needed was a cucumber and even though I thought I had carefully selected a good one, when I got home it was rotten. Booo. If it was just a rotten cucumber I could overlook it but the overall experience just wasn't good. The staff is not friendly and the aisles are cramped. Plus the ice cream aisle smells odd because the kitty litter and dog food are next to it. My understanding is the grocery store business is tough and margins are narrow. For that reason, and because I really do want to support locally owned small businesses, I've given Graul's the benefit of the doubt for a long time. When the vampires are coming I'll stop in Graul's for garlic but otherwise I am going to skip it. read more

I had never been inside this Graul's location, although I have driven by. It is a really nice market, not far off Route 50. They have flowers, good fresh produce, a meat counter and deli counter, fresh baked goods, and everything else you would expect. I got a sandwich to go, which was very reasonable prices, and it came with chips and a pickle. Very convenient. read more

I liked this shop. I almost didn't go inside because the outside looked old and scary, but inside was cool. Had a bit of a hippy vibe, kind cashiers, good produce section, so much better than green valley or safeway (where the workers yell at you). I liked the salads already weighed out, and they had incredibly sweet and well priced berries and apricots. They also had international food and the homemade black bean dip is so good. Sushi looked very fresh. Well priced. I was pleasantly surprised. You can get everything you need and it's a fun and interesting experience too. Thanks! read more

I love Grauls, in a special way; it's like the Cheers of grocery stores, local unassuming, fresh, familiar "and you're always glad you came." It's a low key love affair... when I want to get in and out; I know quietly that you have what the others don't, and the vibe you miss from old schools spots like IGA! Most "don't get it" with other stores in the area but that's why you're special & for select heads. I'm a fan! I'm here for the hand selected cuts from the fish monger and butcher; sauces & condiments which are hard to find, she crab soup, local J& O seasoning; sho is ugly locally sourced organic goodness, and the friendly folks at the register. First time here and I see why everyone, and I mean everyone, at my job swears by this place! It's a cute little upscale market with everything from deli sandwiches, to sweets, to groceries, to medicines. From the outside it looks likes your average grocery store nestled beside a Rite-Aide, but once inside, it's a quaint place to get lunch and a little shopping done. Best chicken salad wrap (filling & flavorful) and strawberry donut (melt in your mouth goodness) I ever had! Price not bad at all either. For a chicken salad wrap with chips, 2 bags of chips, and A HUGE donut, I paid $7! This is my new spot... less than 5 minutes away from my office, I was in and out. 10 years of living in the area, and I've only used this place for my last minute baking emergency stop for about 10 times. As mentioned by other Yelpers, this is a local business and usually I'm all about supporting local business, but several things about this place makes it difficult for me to do so... Here are the reasons why. The price is on a more expensive side for what you get. I'm not a cheap person, as I spend 3-digit at Wholefoods for weekly grocery. But when I'm here looking at the products on the shelves, I really can't justify the price tag. Also, the BIGGEST issue I have is the staff. A couple people mentioned how friendly the place is. Either they shop at the different time than I do, or I'm just very unlucky. There's never a welcoming vibe when I'm here, and at my very recent visit, the cashier did not even bother to acknowledge me. Yes you hear that right, the transaction was SILENT, until I thanked her when she handed me the dozen eggs I purchased, and that's why she thanked me when giving my receipt. But she sure was very interactive with the gentleman she rang up before me, as well as with another gentleman who cut in line to break a bill... Maybe they are regulars and familiar faces, but not acknowledging the customer at all is definitely not the way to run a business or to provide customer service. I really don't want to look at this unfriendly thing in a certain way, but I can't help to notice that the staff is only slightly friendlier when my Caucasian husband is here with me... as I mentioned earlier, maybe I'm just very unlucky with the shopping experience here... read more

O.V.E.R. P.R.I.C.E.D. First of all, this place doesn't care about your money. Their customers seem to consist of older residence in the area and anyone who's too busy to go much further. They have a MUCH smaller selection even compared to Green Valley which is another small close by store (That by the way, has wider selection and lower prices). The ONLY redeeming factor to this store is the Bakery. But everything else just makes it not even worth it. The only thing keeping them open is their location. read more

Very disappointed. Generally- I receive good service. The prices are high, but the quality is generally very good. Today- not so much. Service was non-existent (butcher would not cut the meat that I requested), Manager said my meat looked fine, and couldn't speak to a general manager. When I need a cut of meat, I expect to get what I am asking for. I had to shop elsewhere to get what I needed. Graul's misleads consumers about Perdue Harvestland Chicken brand. Graul's Market adds printing to labels for Perdue Harvestland Chicken brand stating: Cage Free. That may be so, but so are all other chickens raised for meat by the big chicken companies. Chickens for meat are raised inside large poultry houses packed with thousands of chickens on the floor. They are not caged but have little room to roam. Graul's steers shoppers to Harvestland chicken by placing it on a shelf near eye level of shoppers. Regular Perdue chicken brand is on a lower shelf and are not labeled "cage free", though they are raised cage free as well. Graul's probably gets a higher profit from Perdue for selling Harvestland brand over other Perdue chicken. read more

Graul's has lots of great food. The bakery is excellent. Serena is amazing at designing special cupcakes that are delicious, individually packaged, and reasonably priced. We've had superhero, mario brother, and spy themed delectable treats made over the past couple of years. Very pleased with our order! read more

I work in close proximity to the Graul's in Cape St. Claire, and it is an extremely convenient place to stop in to buy some lunch. They have a nice selection of pre-made foods, sushi, pre-made salads as well as a salad bar, and a nice bakery. HOWEVER. If you are in the mood for a deli sandwich, skip it. I don't know where they find their deli staff, but you NEVER get what you order. And they even write it down as you are ordering! An example; today for the hundredth time I thought oh, I am sure THIS person will be able to make what I order. I ordered roast turkey on a spinach wrap with lettuce, tomato, cheddar and a touch of horseradish sauce. Not too complicated, I don't think. The deli person diligently wrote down my order as I spoke. What did I end up having for lunch back at the office, to my great disappointment? Roast turkey on a tomato wrap. Period. No lettuce. No tomato. No cheese. No condiment of any sort. What Graul's does well, they do REALLY well. But their location isn't very convenient for me, the store is a bit on the small side, their selection is just so-so on a lot of items, and their prices are a little higher than most other stores. But as I said...what they do well, they REALLY DO WELL! They do have one of the best deli counters around, with some of the best chicken salad I've ever had. If you're looking for fresh salads, dips, baked goods, sauces, salsa...this is your place. Try the southwest corn dip.....yum! read more

I love this supermarket. Which really isn't so super, in that it's quite small. But it's family owned/run, and they're really nice. They have amazing donuts, and their chicken fingers and french fries (ranch) from the deli are to die for. Seriously. The ranch fries. To die for. And they are the only ones I know that carry this parmesan risotto (in the yellow package. Vigo, I believe makes it. If you know of another place that carries it, let me know so I don't have to drive out to Annapolis to get it). Ohmygod try the ranch fries. read more

A small independent grocery store with the best bakery anywhere. Seriously their cakes are not only gorgeous, they are so delicious there will be no left overs. The produce is hand picked and always fresh and their salad bar is always well stocked and yummy. I've worked with the catering department for a few years. Every November we have a meeting in the Senate Miller building in Annapolis. My members are always thrilled with the quality of the food. And for me, it's a no stress day. This is probably going to sound weird, so I apologize ahead of time. I hate it when people tell me they LOVE grocery stores/markets. I always get a picture in my head that the actual store rarely achieves, and alas, that's what happened with Grauls. "It's amazing!" and "the chicken salad, the chicken salad!!" were the main messages. Here's the problem. People aren't kidding when they say it's a blast from the past. It's small, tight, and the specialty counters are all dark. The signs in the aisles even look like they're from the '50's. All the stock boys have the same haircut and squeaky clean look. It feels constricted, no one's smiling, it's creepily quiet even when it's busy, the vibe is off. Produce, good. Fish, good. Chicken salad? Again, it fell short of the expectation. It wasn't seasoned well and the chicken was slightly tough. There are many recipes out there that are far superior to it. What was nice about the market is, for the size, they had a nice selection, and I really didn't feel the prices were any better or worse then places nearby. I don't want to be the jerk that steps on all the chicken salad dreams of others, maybe I just had a less-then-stellar example. All and all, not a place I will go to on a regular basis. read more

I shop quite often at Grauls and I have to say today I was very disappointed. Not in the staff, not in the merchandise but in the management. We have a Grauls card and every so often we receive an email with a 10% off shopping trip. We received one of these in March with an experation date of 30 April. My husband and I decided to save the coupon for when we returned from vacation, because we knew that grocery trip was going to be an expensive trip. So, you can understand my total surprise when the clerk told me at check out today (20 April) that I could not use the coupon due to today's event at the store! There was nothing on the coupon that says "Good until 30 April except on 20 April". Again very disappointing to a loyal customer for over 16 years. read more

This is the worst market for produce. I only stop by because it is convenient and unfortunately I left too many times empty handed. I find packaged lettuce slimy in the bag. Cucumbers starting to wrinkle up and getting soft. Dehydrated green beans and when I try to pick through them I touch the slimy one in the bottom of the bin. I have mentioned this several times to different managers and right away they call the produce guy to clean the bin up. Only to find the same problem days later. The prices they charge are one of the highest in the area for rotten produce! This store does not deserve any stars. read more

What's happened??? I Went there the other day to buy some food. Grabbed some Fig Newtons cause it had a coupon attached. When I pointed it out to the cashier, he said I couldn't use it because it said "Fruit" on it. He said I had to buy real fruit. So, forget about the fact that it was glued onto the Fig Newtons package; forget about the fact that the Fig Newton package says "Fruit" on it; forget about the fact that the coupon said "8.5 oz" or greater. When does fruit like bananas come in packages of 8.5 oz.? What's happened to common sense? read more

This Graul's location has friendly and helpful staff. They don't always stock certain things and they could improve by selling some items in a bulk-buying manner where you fill up your own container with however much you need and then pay by weight. read more
