Serving Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff, and the Tri Village area, as well as OSU/Harrison West/Victorian Village. Offerings includes a full service bakery that can produce custom decorated cakes. Pro tip: try the white cake with cream cheese frosting. These are typically for birthdays, but sometimes you just really want this cake. It is ahhhhhmazing. There is also a state of Ohio liquor store, a large wine, selection, and extensive beers and ales available. Hot foods are prepared here with a deli also among the offerings, and sushi chefs on staff. If you don't want to cook, but you're looking for something to eat there is an answer here. Large produce section just inside the front door, and the meat department has butchers on staff, as well as prepackaged items. Huge dairy department. Regular grocery offerings are of course available in the central zone of the store. Disappointed in the recent experiences at Giant Eagle. I use to LOVE this location. It close, convenient and always a great selection. However lately the selection isn't as good and they are out of many things. But the worst part is they have moved to paper bags!! The handles always break and your groceries have to be cleaned up off the floor or in the parking lot. They definitely are great for carrying up 3 flights of stair at my condo. It has become so frustrating I have been going to Kroger more since they give the option of the plastic bags. I'm tired of this forcing of paper bags! Unfortunately the reusable bags are so unsanitary with all the chicken juices and grossness. What happened to loving trees?!!! I'm getting closer to making the full switch to Kroger. read more

Have I been punk'd? This may be one of the dumbest designed stores I've seen, and I've been to multiple IKEA's. I don't know if they're trying to be trendy or the design team in Pittsburgh was trying another new concept after a drunken night of inhaling fumes from a hay ride and remembering getting lost in a corn maze and how fun it could be. It's so difficult to navigate mainly because it's so different than a normal grocery store. There's a bar... but who's going here to hang at the bar? I get it's in a college town but just because Ohio State would crush Pitt in any football game isn't a reason to bestow this store on the fine folks of Columbus, OH. Maybe the bar is there to ease your frustration with shopping here. Don't get me wrong, the contents of the store are awesome, but try to get from one area of the store to another and you'll be baffled. The seafood and cheese are tucked into a rear corner. Some aisles don't go the whole length of the store and you have to weave around, making it difficult to get to some items. Maybe they'll try and sell you a GPS or carts with a locator. The beer area is off to the left as you enter and there's a liquor store too, but you can't bring your cart in, and there's nowhere to park the buggy. So you end up just leaving it in front of some of the beer choices, hoping someone doesn't take it with all the goodies you piled in already. Another miss from the design team. As someone who is no longer a GE Advantage Card holder (mine fell apart into multiple layers long ago), the fact that you can't use the self checkout without one is absolutely bonkers! It's complete insanity and I was dumbfounded and standing there not knowing what to do, trying to find the continue button or something. A simple "if you don't have a GE Card, then go to a regular checkout" message would have saved me time, which is what self checkout is supposed to do anyway. I would imagine once you know where everything is, it would be OK, but seriously someone was thinking a little too outside the box or was about to miss a deadline to turn in the floorplan. We have gone 2 times since they starting having wine night again. The live music is always great and the employees hosting wine night are always so kind! We really enjoy the different theme nights and seeing what wine and food options they have to offer. The bartenders are always super knowledgeable about each option and can tailor the tasting to what you enjoy. The food is always hot and very good! The former Wine Nights are back as Flights and Bites! A slight upgrade on the food selection but the same great wine. I've been twice now since they have been back - the first night a great selection of wine (3 red, 3 white) plus a beer option, served with Asian food! Tonight was a wine tasting (again 3 red, 3 white with a beer), and a heavy nacho bar type food. Definitely a great value ($15 for 6 samplings and dinner). I feel like this market place has some kind of hold over me because no matter where I am in the area of Grandview, I somehow in some way always stop into the marketplace. You can find in Oil bar for various seasonal olive oils and fruity vinaigrettes. The bulk food section and the hot food bar which I partake too often. What's also nice is the bar in the front near the entrance where you can sip a beer and think about your shopping list before you shop. Me and my friends go there to relax or study. I like it because it is a one-stop-shop for everything you might need. I got some more of hot fried chicken and enjoyed the democratic debate while eating it! Zero baggers (but they did have a guy standing there observing) today I spent 21 minutes in full checkout. The team picked the one and only lane for full checkout where the belt didn't work. Very poor staffing amd management decisions sometimes. Beware their clearance rack by the bakery. They think we are too stupid to realize that the prices on these items are lies. For example a small salsa was marked 3.49 and you saved = 3.50. I went over to the salsa aisle and small salsas were nowhere close to a 7.00 normal price. In reality expect to save about 50 cents on these items. Nobody like being treated like a sucker. read more

With rising prices on groceries and the availability of better product (Whole Foods & Kroger) for lesser prices--you would think stores would be interested in engaging customer loyalty. But not this trash location. I had a manager go out of her way to treat me like a thief. I needed assistance, as the pasta I was trying to ring up at the self-checkout wouldn't scan and the blackberries (on sale for $3.50 down from $8) were ringing at full-price. Anyhow, the woman took the items to another register, and made a comment about me to the other associate that apparently amused him. Five mins. later she called for a price check. During this time, she insinuated that I was lying about the price and that berries are expensive. Ma'am, I'm aware of the prices of berries--this is why I thought they were a deal. Also, I'm buying $9 fresh pasta; I know where to spend my money. Anyhow, after 2 mins. the other associate came back and reported what I said in the beginning--$3.50. The manager decide to then asked me a third time how much they were--even after confirming it at her register and wasting time by sending someone over for a price check. At that point I abandoned my cart and walked out. I will never step foot in this location again. read more

Although I usually have another go-to grocery store, sometimes I stop by this location for a few things. For a Giant Eagle, it's not bad! The parking lot is huge but can fill up during the popular times. The one perk of having such a large store is that most areas aren't crowded even if there are a lot of people shopping. There is a really nice liquor store and a wine/beer section. There are quite a few different varieties and it's located on the left hand side so if you're just getting the booze you don't even have to go through the store! Win! There is also a "bar" and some TV's so you can stop by for a drink if that's your thing. There is a large salad bar and they have hot food as well. This store also has some specialty areas: the deli and cheese sections and robust and lots of various prepared foods or those boxes where they give you all the ingredients to make your own meal, all in one box! The meat and seafood section is large and they have some impressive offering. The bakery is huge (btw, GE cake and frosting are delicious!!!) The personal care and pharmacy section is all the way on the right. As a Cleveland girl I have always disliked Giant Eagle ( it's the only comprehensive mid price grocery in the Cleveland area) but this location is softening me up a bit. I'm sooo disappointed! This store used to carry fresh specialty chocolate- dipped pretzels. The pretzel was thick and crunchy, with a delicious chocolate. Now they have a low-grade version from Sarris candies. The pretzels are stale- soft and no crunch. The chocolate is not good quality. And the pretzel is thin! read more

Before I starting working at Grandview Yard, my husband and I would come to this location for the vast beer selection. Now, I walk here from work both to get out of the office and get exercise, and to pick up a few things to take home. Today I met a friend for lunch and didn't make it far into the cafe area before choosing the Wok for my lunch selection. It's like Mongolian BBQ - you choose your veggies, put in a bowl, and hand over to the grillmaster after telling them which protein, rice, and sauce you would like. I then went to the check-out area with that and a bottled water. The Wok only take a few minutes (there was only 1 person in line with me) and it was so delicious that I know I will come back for the same. All the outside seating was taken, so we went back inside and up the stairs (by the elevator) and out to the second floor outdoor seating. Their wine night on Fridays (6 tastings for 10$) used to be awesome. Now I'd only recommend it to solo old men looking to come to Giant Eagle and read a book. The pours are smaller, the food is being rationed off slowly and strictly like we're in the Great Depression (meanwhile we're in a grocery store- the food is down stairs)and you can't even hear the band since they've moved the location of wine upstairs. What used to be an awesome night bubbling with life and energy is now a weird depressing wine tasting, a big disappointment. 24/7 access, great selection, a clean store, and a decent rewards program make this a very good place to get groceries and other fun stuff! Gas? They have that too! Even though it's 24/7, they will close on certain holidays. So it's good to check that in advance. The store is huge inside with a large meat and seafood counter and smaller bakery and produce areas. There is a selection of bulk items as well like candy, nuts, and some dry ingredients. There is a small booze section as well and even a Starbucks and section with hot, prepared food (these parts aren't 24/7). Aisles are large and usually clear with only occasional obstructions by the stocking staff. The overall selection is just ginormous. Shelves seem to always be very well stocked, and the store always seems very clean. Prices are reasonable, and their weekly sales can provide some very good deals. Join their rewards program to earn fuel perks for discounts at their gas station (right out front and at other locations around town too). Lastly, they have several self-service check out stations which are easy to use. Giant Eagle has never been my go-to grocery store but this one is quickly becoming just that due to its close vicinity to my apartment. It certainly has its perks but there are also cons that come associated with it. Let's start from the beginning, shall we? The parking lot is a nice size but it fills up quickly. I often shop at odd hours and it doesn't matter what time it is, finding a spot can be tricky. Pro tip - Park on the ride side of the building and enter in the pharmacy entrance. That's usually the quickest enter and exit point in my opinion. Now, once I'm inside the building, I usually start in produce. They offer an okay selection but almost every time I visit they are out of something basic. Last time it was cauliflower, the time before that it was baby carrots. It's frustrating but what can ya do? In the same section you can find lose leaf tea (also often out of stock) and fresh peanut butter (the machines break sometimes). The pro here is that they even offer these options, regardless of things being broken or out of stock, it's really nice to have! In this same area you can find dried mushrooms in bulk and even fresh pasta imported from Cleveland. This I love! All throughout the place you'll find products local to Ohio and that just makes my day. Ohio City Pasta, Darista Dips, Snowville cream, etc. This place also has an enormous bakery section; full of breads, bagels, cookies, and more! It's really difficult to walk by without grabbing something to curb your sweet tooth craving. Additional perks include a Starbucks, the bar area, the fresh pho bowls and salad section, all the premade foods, etc. You could definitely make an afternoon out of visiting this place. Grab a drink and watch a game, have a bite to eat, and get your shopping done all in one place. Who woulda thought! Now, when the time comes to get the heck outta this place, it can certainly take you a minute. The checkout area tends to get crowded very quickly, no matter what time of day it is. They do have your traditional checkouts alongside your self-serve checkout, and the 15 items or less checkout. Simply do yourself a favor and take a big breath before you head that way. This is a great market! It is open 24 hours and is absolutely huge inside. They have a Starbucks inside as well as several food counters where you can order a hot and cold meal which is great for a quick lunch. They have an attached liquor area with a pretty decent selection of beer and wine. The store is generally very clean and well maintained. The produce always looks fresh, and the staff are quite helpful including the staff at the meat counter. There is a small floral counter as well. Their rewards program is pretty good; you can earn discounts on fuel from their gas and go station right out front (or there are many around town). When you buy gas you can get discounts on food too! We have been shopping at Giant Eagle Market District Grandview for about five years now, and have always liked it. However, like many places, it has gone a bit downhill since Covid - for example, spotty service in the deli department and low stocks on pet food. My favorite thing about the store has always been the checkout experience. For those who prefer self-checkout, it's been available. For the rest of us, this location had a single queue for the multiple cashiers - making the process very orderly, fair and efficient. So, a couple weeks ago they rearranged that. Why???Now people have to jockey for position, sometimes aggressively, and able to just start unloading their cart onto the conveyor belt when I am not half done with mine. Lines were backed up into the aisles, creating traffic jams for everyone. Three years ago I'd have given five stars. Last month, four. Now, two. Sad. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. read more

I'm digging this Giant Eagle Market District! Tucked into a corner off W 3rd Ave in the hustle & bustle of the crowded urbanized Grandview area, is this location. Not only does it fit the needs of a full service grocery store, but my favorite part is it takes a slice if suburbia and places it into this urban area. I know, I know, suburbia sucks and is cookie cutter. However, GE Market District feels like an island oasis where one doesn't have to worry about where to park, pay a meter, etc. One can get their basic necessities easily here to make their urban living easier. Dramatic decline in service. Quality of produce has decreased. Hard to find people working unless they are shopping for online purchasers. Now you not only have to bag your own but you have to bring your own bags. At least at Aldi's the prices reflect this. It feels weird to say I have a favorite grocery store. But this is the one. It's about a 10 min drive away from my place downtown, however i make the drive as much as i can't because i love this place. They literally have had everything i've ever needed. If I need something that I know might be hard to find in a normal store i don't worry because I know Giant Eagle Market District will most likely have the item i am in need of. All of their sections have a vast amount of items. From the produce, meat, to the liquor section. Speaking of liquor I was surprised of what all they had, i'm a huge whiskey guy so when I saw they had a lot of different bitters for old fashions I almost cried. They have a really nice wine section for all you wine people as well. This place is really clean as well. It is maybe it's most underrated about it. Sometime and a lot of times grocery stores aren't the cleanest places, even though they sell your food. But this place looks really nice.. There are always a lot of people here. And normally that means long lines and long waits. But not here. They have a lot of checkouts and self checkouts. So everything moves pretty quickly. (At least the times when i have been there) You name it they probably have it. From a bar to chill at, a little spot where you can pick up a quick bite to eat. They just offer so much more than regular stores. If you haven't been here then i suggest you come. You won't be disappointed. read more

"Upscale" (means expensive) supermarket with a dwindling selection and clueless management. I recently did a price check and Whole Foods was actually cheaper for assorted meats, cheeses and breads! Management has used the pandemic as an excuse to reduce item selection (instead of 10 different choices, you now have 2-3), close exits and entrances, eliminate hand baskets, and hire clueless staff. The delivery service associates and their carts clog up every aisle, restocking is done at busy times of the day. The quality of meat and fish is below Wal-Mart. Tried prime steaks and roasts- no marbling, these were clearly choice or below. Fish selection is limited and it's all been frozen, even when it says "fresh." The fish counter was closed when I was shopping at 10 am. Many basic items are out of stock. They have not had dried pinto or kidney beans for over a month. There was no self-rising flour at my last visit. This is not a supply chain thing, I found all of these at Kroger and Whole Foods. The soup and hot foods bars are still closed, even though we all know that COVID is not spread via food. This is just lazy,cost-cutting. Special orders from the help desk are just ignored, no one ever gets back to you and emails to corporate are never returned. The parking lot has 40 spaces for curbside pick-up, taking up prime, close-in spots, even though there are rarely 2 cars waiting. I've moved on from this shoddy business, despite living 2 blocks away. read more

This is our number one grocery store. That is not to say that it is without flaws, but we take the good with the bad. This grocery store is almost impossible to have a quick in and out trip. So when we forget an item or just need one thing, it is such a pain to have to go in because it takes longer than I would like. With all that being said, overall this is our go to store. It is massive, so it has a lot of products that you can not find at other stores. We enjoy the familiarity of the layout. Though it did take some getting use to. We now pretty much know where all the items are located within the sore. Often I line up what I'm shopping for with what is on sale. Sometimes I am even able to pair up a sale and a coupon I have on hand. A while ago Giant Eagle stopped doubling coupons. That really frustrated me. Ultimately I figure that they would have stopped doubling coupons due to the COVID virus, so I am just accepting the new policy now. Their antibiotic free chicken is overpriced but again I just line up my purchases with their sale on it. Their produce is questionable most of the time. I wish it were fresher. There are a couple of cashiers that have been there for years and are a pleasure to see. Many others are just rotating faces coming and going. Where do I start. We found ourselves at this store since the Chambers Kroger was without power. Not our first choice but we have a pleasant time at the High St. Geagle so we figured we would give it a shot. This store is very poorly laid out with no flow and no natural movement. Want cheese? Far back corner. Wait oh you meant fancy cheese? Way on the other side of the store. Oh you meant deli cheese? Just travel another quarter mile toward the center of the store. Every item was like this, and it felt less like a bountiful array of options and more like a drawn out game of Hide And Go $!&@? Yourself. The whole store is very dark, with dark poured concrete floors and exposed warehouse beams. Although this seems deliberately designed, it reads more like a Big Eats Mostly Expired Discount Superstore and less like an artisanal romp through a roided up Whole Foods. The produce area was the worst offender in this category, with focused LED lighting on select areas. LEDs are blue hued and this causes the food to pop with color, which as far as I can tell is straight up dishonest. Anybody can make Joan Rivers look alive with the right lighting, and the produce was no exception, with very brightly lit fresh LOOKING apples that were actually bruised and soft upon closer inspection. The dim areas around these highlighted bins made me feel like I was shopping in a Hollister and not a grocery store. By the time we made it to the shredded cheese, we were exhausted, but thankfully we didn't have to walk far because the check out line stretched from the front and center of the store all the way to the pharmacy just ahead of us. After a frustrating hour of maze running we stood in line for ten minutes and then abandoned our cart for greener, less congested and not horrible pastures (sorry to the person who had to restock, we know none of this is your fault).
