    Two aisle of quality wines.

A gentrified carry-out for a gentrified neighborhood means coolers of crafts and aises of wine in wooden shelving. Center of The area, 3rd and Grandview, across the over-slick condo tower, catty-corner from the gutted, forever-in-refurbishment Grandview Cafe, facing the reused gass station at it East, the former 7/11 has a faux wooden overhang in earth tone gray, a colorful brick facade, and potted plants. This is the paper bag, Mad Dog 20/20 carryout transformed by the demands of modern urbanism. It is still a carry-out rest assured. The unvarnish board which acts as a counter is logged with impulse junk. Here you can get ice, 12-packs, soda, 22s, 40s, and cigs. Upscaled or not a carryout is a den of sin, and this one sells your temptations as well as any others. And of course, the clerk has a TV, a 20" LCD in lieu of the carry-out cliched rabbit eared box. But its upscale trimming can impress. It has a nice selection of crafty suds and the usual C-Town suspects of indy brew-- its build-a-six is small--but it is not as impressing as other places like Kenny Market. What it doubles as is a wine shop. There are two rows running the length of its sales floor. And I don't mean the Sutter Home, Cavet, Beringer common supermarket case stacks but private winery labeled from Napa, Washington, everywhere. I've picked up great midline Rieslings and Moscato here, and a few impressive-for-the-level Chiantis. So if your wino style has moved from Mad Dogg to corked Merlot then come here. There is decent wine on sale.

Grandview Carryout recently replaced the old 7-eleven on Grandview Ave. It's right next door to Cow Town Pizza. I went in looking for some Captain Morgan's. Unfortunately, they don't carry hard liquor. They did have some Popov, Bailey's and Kahlua though. The rest is a very nice selection of beer and wine. I was impressed. I always like when I can buy just one bottle of beer, if it's something I have never tried before. This is definitely a great place to stop by on your way to a party for a last minute contribution.

This is bound to be the BEST, and will stop in if/when in the area to see Denise and Barham. They were great neighbors.

They were fairly full when we arrived, but we snagged a two-seater against the wall. There's LIMITED SEATING - so don't plan to come with a group of friends if your intent is to have a few beers at the bar. DO come in a group if you plan on getting food and beers and moving upstairs! We only wanted a couple drinks - and as the crowd was coming and going we didn't want to take up too much space. When I went up to order - they asked if I wanted a plastic cup to go! You can get a beer and peruse the market. Not our end-game this time, as I was planning to build a six-pack. Both ladies working were flying back and forth, taking care of people coming up to the bar, sitting at the bar, and every person that walked up to the register (some people were buying drinks to go, some in cups to walk, and a few people grabbed some of the limited seating present). They have a pretty decent selection of wines and beers available for purchase - some beers on shelves, and a decent selection in a cooler. I had narrowed down to a few choices, and I asked for suggestions and the bartender hopped over and lead the way, and talked about several beers with me (after the usual "what kind of beer do you like? question... which for me is, "yes, please."). She gave me excellent suggestions, and I moved from a 4-pack (you get a discount) to a (more discounts!) 6-pack. They have a GOOD selection for the North Market. It's not the best in the world, and it may not beat a place near where you live, but if you're in the North Market, and you want a good beer and good vibes in a little corner? The Barrel & Bottle has you covered.
