Our server was very good always ensuring we had everything we needed. They have amble indoor seating along with a private dining area you can reserve. There is a very nice bar with a very nice selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. We had a couple of Bloody Mary's with brunch and thought they were good. Son is in town Came in for brunch as he gets to choose where we go this week. We sat in the back patio. Fun music played at a relaxing level. Sierra, our server came over to greet us and took our orders. We started with a bloody Mary, a irish Mary, deviled eggs,,, drinks were crazy expensive but also crazy good. The deviled eggs is an excellent recipe. They were delicious and well presented. My son got the chorizo hash. It looked amazing. He confirmed it was. Both my husband and Ingot the frittata. At first I thought it looked over cooked but slicing it to it I realized it was perfect. Great flavor. Would order again. As far as value.... pricing was a bit odd. Some things we would of purchased were crazy expensive. Like a mimosa was 45. Thats insanity, imo. Another example: smoked salmon BLT was $21. The $14 salad entree, to out shrimp on it "added" $15 making it $29. I felt that was over inflated, as well. Regardless, we enjoyed what we ordered. Hidden gem for sure. It's been around since late 2019, Covid knocked them around a bit, but in 2024 on our night, it was hitting on all cylinders. This is what they are calling Ghostwriter 2.0 and the format has really changed. It is an order at the bar place now and then you find your seat. No table service. The menu is mostly varieties of grilled cheese. The food was really good and the drinks were great as always. They do have 3 Trifle games which we all really enjoyed playing and had football games on for those sitting at the bar. It has such a different vibe from what it used to be though. I liked it more than I expected to but didn't love it. We will be back to play more Trifle! read more

We stopped in for a date night! Ghostwriter PH is so beautiful. The outdoor area had live music but was full, so we sat inside. The details in the restaurant are so beautiful and rustic. The washrooms are individual rooms (instead of stalls) so that's really nice, although the sinks are kind of small so water does get everywhere when you wash your hands. There is a decent amount of parking in the back and there is also street parking along Main St. It wasn't very busy when we first got there but it quickly filled up within an hour. There was one server for the 10+ tables, so service was a little slow. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind too much. We ordered drinks: seasonal strawberry peach margarita and 1813. The seasonal drink was perfect for the summer. We also ordered cheese curds. They took a while to be served and there was barely any cheese in the pieces - and it was overcooked and all the cheese melted out. Sadly, the pieces were mostly a puff of batter. The garlic aioli and citrus valentina sauce were good. The citrus sauce tasted a lot like Cholula hot sauce. For dinner, my husband ordered the RL Valley Ranch burger and I got the Ahi Tuna Steak. I had the burger the first time I visited a few years ago and loved it! Maybe we hyped it up too much but this time it was a little too salty and the buns were over toasted. Overall it was lack luster. However, the ahi tuna steak was delicious. At first, I thought "yikes, that's a tiny piece of fish for MP," but it was the perfect size. The taro chips were amazing, the poke was fresh and flavorful, the ube risotto cake was flavorless but it was perfect to pair with the rest of it, and the chili wakame salad was so delicious! read more

I'd been wanting to try GW so figured no better time than for my birthday dinner with the family. Sunday evening, our reservation was for 5:30, so the place wasn't very busy. I love the extended seating through the doorway attached. A bar on both sides of the wall. The big front windows made the space cozy and inviting. Definitely a minimalist design with cream-white walls, black and wood furniture, and gold/pewter knobs and accent pieces. Our waitress was friendly, talked about the daily specials and answered our questions on the menu. She did a good job checking in on us without being pushy or annoying throughout the our time. There were six of us, I believe three got alcoholic drinks, of which they all raved about, so a solid two thumbs. We shared a few small plates to start: The deviled eggs, Black Radish Creamery cheese curds, and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious. The sweetness from the honey whipped ricotta paired brilliantly with The curds were absolutely phenomenal! Hot, fresh, lightly battered and fried tempura style. The ranch dip was my preference; I forget what the red sauce tasted like, but I think it was very spicy thus was a turn-off. If these two apps remain on their menu year-round, there's my meal, done died, and gone to heaven! Picked the salmon entree, and again, wonderful. You can seriously tell this restaurant sticks to their mission statement of local farm to table and fresh made; the salmon was done perfectly - still juicy, yet solid pink throughout. I do wish a different side would have been paired with the protein in place of the cauliflower couscous, because it didn't have any flavor (no spices added to it either). Also, the asparagus spears could have used a minute longer cooking, as they were quite raw still. For dessert - the waitstaff will relay that menu to you if/when the times appropriate - I went with their s'mores dish. The fine-dinning melted chocolate was good, and it mixed well with the peanuts, but I LOVE anything peanut and felt it could have used more nuts an/or melted peanut butter. There was no marshmallow, just the meringue, which was somewhat odd just having the small graham cracker square on the bottom to really give substance. It was good, but wish I would have went with their creme brûlée instead. A fabulous birthday dinner! You can tell great thought and technique is put into the menu, plating, food, and service. For my fellow Columbus residents looking for something new, this is well worth the drive. Delicious food, great drinks, and an awesome atmosphere. It is also relatively inexpensive compared to Columbus restaurants. The service was fantastic. Our server had us cracking up the entire night. And she was quick to take a meal back that one woman from our dinner party did not really enjoy and bring something back out, without even asking! Very genuine and it made fans out of all of us. An upscale establishment in Johnstown, Ghostwriter Public House has the vibe you are looking for. A historical industrial decor inside with plenty of seating space and a nice outdoor patio as well. We were seated quickly, and our server was over to take our drinks. I asked what their specialty cocktail was and she recommended the blackberry smash. Pretty tasty if you're a bourbon lover. We had the cheese curds for an app, they were large and had a light fluffy breading. I had a Korean chicken sandwich for my meal. It had a good soy flavor and the home-made kimchi was delicious. I will say that if your in a hurry, this may not be the most ideal place as our dinner lasted close to an hour and a half. seemed that the service slowed down the later in the evening. Two years I have been coming here! Honestly, it's worth the drive. This is one of those places that when someone asks if it's worth checking out - it is. The drinks are smart - not obnoxiously "elevated" but just twisted enough to make them theirs without kicking you in the teeth where you have to decide if "it tastes weird but it's expensive so I have to say it's good." And the bartenders are accommodating! They make up drinks to suit your tastes. The food - I'm a creature of habit. We have ran through appetizers, and the deviled eggs are perfect, and their steaks and pork chops are well seasoned, and smoky. Always nailing it. The inside is wonderful - large digital screen, hard wood, the front open windows, unisex bathrooms. And finally I enjoyed their patio - some covered, some uncovered, an outside bar area - I haven't been in chillier months, so I need to revisit and see how well they keep it warmed up! We came to check out GW2.0. It feels more like an upscale lounge than your typical restaurant. The Trifle game was a lot of fun and super easy to learn. The food came out fast once we ordered. I got the smash burger which was delicious! Though the menu is significantly smaller, everything on the menu looked great and wish I could have tried them all (including the cocktails!) We will definitely be coming back! I think it's a great alternative for a place to sit and relax (like a coffee shop, but more upscale). read more

The last super before they completely flip Ghostwriter's on its head for what they call their 2.0 version after the new year, we've enjoyed this restaurant in my home town and is the best in the area (Granville, Newark. Johnstown, NA) but heard the news they are from what we have read and heard directly from staff downgrading the spot for higher volume soups, Sandwich's and some small plates with no reservation needed, sports bar vibe with TV's and your traditional feel which is sad in my opinion. This review was on the last day of the original Ghostwriter's 12/21/24 then they shut down for two weeks and open as a entirely new restaurant with the same name. I will say, as sad as the staff seemed they delivered a perfect 5 star meal and experience. The food was perfect, the waitress and help staff more attentive than ever and we enjoyed it so much. Lots of good byes and until next times, some tears and memories shared, they all have so much pride in GH and most seem to NOT be sticking around for what they consider a downgraded 2.0 version. Good luck to everyone and believe me I'm not going to knock it until I try it and hope the "2.0" version is better than expected. During my latest trip, I wanted to drop in without a reservation. They have difficulty with groups over 4 without a reservation. They were going to open the second bar for us to sit at. I was shocked when I arrived to learn they were opening a private roomy for my small group. It made a strong impression on me and my family. Kudos to the staff and management. I couldn't be happier about my family's experience at Ghostwriter. Each year we celebrate our December birthdays and anniversaries at a special restaurant and this year was Ghostwriter. The creative drinks and extensive bourbon list was an impressive first impression. Followed by diverse and unique food offerings. We especially loved the short rib pasta and pork chops. The local crowd and design of the restaurant was really positive and beautiful too. But the reason I am giving a 10 is because of our experience with the team. My father is going through cancer treatment and unfortunately fell ill during dinner. The staff, Johnnie patrons, EVERYONE went above and beyond to help our family, lessen his embarrassment, and return a smile to his face. When we bought our first house in Johnstown, Ghostwriter (1.0) became a touchstone for us. We brought visiting friends and family to a hidden gem off the beaten path, but it seems that couldn't last. We had no idea things were changing and unknowingly walked into Ghostwriter 2.0 today. The selection was shockingly limited. We were told the new menu was so they could focus on execution and get food out faster, but I can't say that execution was a priority. The fries tasted like Kroger's frozen crinkle cut fries, there was nothing special about the shrimp scampi special, and they didn't bother to crisp the bacon in their BLT equivalent. I am honestly saddened by the turn. I have to wonder if they are under new management, this feels like the kind of thing that happens when a restaurant gets bought out by someone only interested in the property value. read more

Looking for somewhere to eat after church. Normally, we go home and cook. Not today... the sun is shining, so we decided to take a drive. Not a very long one. We stopped in Johnstown at a place called Ghostwriter Public House. They were serving brunch and open until 2:30...so we stopped. SO GLAD we did. Not only did we get the last 2 seats at the bar...a couple of family members walked in a few minutes after we did. They offered to share their table with us. We started with some drinks and mimosas. For our meals we got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Triple Thick French Toast, Housemade Biscuits and Gravy, and a Fritatta. The Chicken had a passion fruit and honey glaze shaved cabbage, pickles and roasted chile mayo with a side of fries. The French toast was brioche, smoked creme anglaise, black radish creamery jam, ohio coffee-rubbed bacon and milligan's maple syrup. The fritatta was egg whites, wood grilled mushrooms, roasted red peppers, spinach, fontina cheese with a side of simply dressed arugula. The bathroom was very clean, so clean that I actually put my sunglasses on the counter. One of the cleanest bathrooms I've been in inside a restaurant. I was surprised to see that the prices were very reasonable. My man and I are always taking drives around to see the beautiful Ohio scenery so we will definitely be back. read more

Easy enough to find -- street parking is available. The space is absolutely beautiful -- very simple / minimalistic and CLEAN! Our waiter was super attentive, popped by to check how things were and fill up our coffee cups. Superb service. The food was wonderful. We got an order of the Ube Cinnamon Rolls -- it sounds like the only make a handful a day because we got there 30 minutes after open and there were only 4 orders left. They were very good -- i liked the filling a lot and it was a good portion size. For mains, my husband got the breakfast chimichanga and I got the breakfast plate. Both were very good. My husband loved the hot sauce that came on the side and made sure to get the leftovers in a cup to go. I was very pleased with my hash (great flavor), the sausage patty (made in house), and the seasonal jam. All quite delicious. For an app, two cups of coffee and two mains we ate for $50. As someone who resides in the heart of Columbus, it was definitely worth the trip to Johnstown for a midday getaway. The place is beautiful on the inside, and the service was good. Cheese curds were terrific with a tasty ranch and absolutely great bacon onion jam. Fans of smashburgers in general will like GPH's version. The fries were better than the homemade chips in my opinion, and the Rachel sandwich (only served at lunch and brunch) was fine. I suspect dinner is where you might find the 5-star experience if that's your goal. The inside also offers a wonderful aesthetic for dining in year round. They offer seasonal menus with a variety of delicious options from starters, entrees, and desserts. My family and I have eaten here three times, the last two of which were Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. But even if it's not a holiday, make a reservation in advance!! I haven't been able to eat here yet without a reservation. My wife and I have also had dinner and drinks at the bar late on a Saturday night and it was really great! I loved sitting at the bar, interacting more personally with their staff, and the service was just as great as getting a table. In fact, the service has been top notch every time we've been there. I have to believe it's a very high priority based upon multiple experiences of ours and friends of ours that the management had very high expectations of their staff. The drinks here are pricey, but the cocktails are high quality and the bar staff are true professionals. I feel like classy is an adjective to describe their food and drink. There are a couple of vegetarian options, which I appreciate, and my wife enjoys the fish. There's also a kid's menu, which I wouldn't have expected walking in here. Much appreciated. Although we waited for quite some time before a server greeted us, when the bartender (who I think it's one of the owners) came over to get out drink order they were extremely welcoming. The menu contains a lot of locally source ingredients. The cheese curds should not be missed! They were the best cheese curds and dips I've had. The presentation of our steak dinners was upscale and beautiful. The flavors were so harmonious and reminded us of our wedding dinner in Ireland. Yesterday, my friend and I went to Ghostwriters for the first time and let me tell you FANTASTIC! We made a reservation online ahead of time and arrived at 6:30. The building itself looks like it does not belong in downtown Johnstown. It's so pretty and doesn't really fit in. The entire restaurant is setup beautifully. There were two large TVs in the restaurant with a gorgeous gold picture frame border so it looked like a moving picture. They also have gorgeous chandeliers. The place doesn't look very big but then they have a whole other section to the right of where you walk in. We ordered Brussel Sprouts as our appetizer which were one of the better Brussel sprouts that I've had lately. The drinks there looked amazing but I don't get one as I wasn't in the mood. For my main entree, my friend and I split the Smashburger and the Pasta primavera. I highly recommend the pasta it's 100% the reason that I would go back. The pasta comes with cavatappi pasta, walnut pesto cream sauce, roasted artichokes & red peppers, wood-fired mushrooms & spinach. It was amazing. Our waitress was very busy so we got special service from not only the owner herself, we didn't know she was the owner until we asked. She treated us so perfectly and was so welcoming with her suggestions. When we told her that we wanted to split our meals, she had them portion them in the kitchen and it was perfect. A solid drive out to Ghostriders from New Albnay/Gahanna and worth the trip. Met a few of my lady friends here for Sunday brunch. It was a beautiful day and we opted to sit on the patio that was covered and protected us from a potential rain storm. Parking was easy, either outfront or in the back. We started with a few cocktails before ordering some scones and our lunch. The drinks were stiff and full of flavor. Can't go wrong with anything Tequila. The scones were decent. On the softer and flaky side. The blueberry was my favorite. The chocolate chip tasted like an under cooked cookie. Not my favorite. I ordered the chorizo Hash. Yes, breakfast in a bowl with a perfectly cooked egg on top. Just the right amount of food. Overall an amazing experience and good food. My wife and I were looking for a place to midweek date night dinner and I kept bringing up Ghostwriter as an option because it was a place that we had not yet had the chance to go. (I have been obsessing over Ghostwriter Public House since I stumbled on to it in the early Fall.) I am so glad that my wife was willing to chance getting into Ghostwriter Public House, without a reservation, at the spur of the moment on a random Wednesday. Boy was it worth the thirty plus minute during rush hour drive from our house! We began with cocktails which were well prepared. The pork rinds were still crackling when they made it to the table. As a Southerner I am incredibly skeptical of any restaurant this far north purporting to serve pimento cheese. Let me tell you that while it's not what I would make at home it is delicious. Oh! And the ghost pepper house made hot sauce made the pork rind and pimento cheese combo out of this world! My wife actually said that they were the best pork rinds that she has had. (She's also a born and raised Southerner.) I am pretty much a plant based eater at this point in life but, we went with the chef's cut of meat as a dish to split. What sold me on this is that Ghostwriter Public House is sourcing local & responsibly. The steak, that was cooked to order on the wood fired grill, was beautiful. It was ridiculously tender and cooked to our request. It did not need anything on it as it was a flavorful quality piece of meat. This meal was a meal that almost made me cry. Not in a 'Oh crap what the heck did we spend money on' but in a 'Geeze, that was so delicious that my tastebuds are weeping'. I can already say I am excited to come back and try more dishes. Even just the outside is beautiful with the way you can see the name of the restaurant and the chandelier hanging inside. You walk into a darker environment, seeing the art work on the wall, the well lit chandelier, and some tables and a bar. We had reservations and were able to sit at a table right by the kitchen so we can see all of the action. There is a second bar and chandelier in the other half of the restaurant and additional seating. Absolutely breathtaking. They even have a little private room which I am sure you can request. Most of the tables are high top seats. Our waitress got us water right away. It took forever for me to pick a drink because they have so many good options from cocktails, wine, spirits, to beer. I got the Afternoon Sun and I would say it is a mixture between a margarita and a lemon drop. Absolutely delicious and I downed it way faster than I should have. My friends with me got the Harvest Moon and Grey and Gold. The Harvest Moon was good, but I am not a whiskey drinker. The Grey and Gold was strong and in a good way. Both drinks are made to sip that's for sure. For appetizers we ordered the bread and butter board, cheese curds, and two order of fries to share. Absolutely delicious. The bread and butter comes with two types of bread and you get two slices of each. They were toasted and there is TWO types of butter and olives that comes with it. One of the butters was sweeter and was my favorite. You mix it with the charred taste and it is heaven. The cheese curds - amazing. The fries were perfectly crisp and it comes with an aioli and ketchup. I ordered the little neck clams as my entree and my friends got the salmon, Japanese fried chicken, and the pork chops. We all agreed that the clams dish was missing a little "oomph." We're not really sure what though and I wish I could say it better. The salmon had a barbecued charred taste to it and was delicious. I'm not even a salmon person! The Japanese fried chicken was juicy and had a little spicy kick to it. I think my favorite dish was my friend's pork chops! It came with vegetables, a mole, and pumpkin seeds on top. How creative! We ended the meal with a warm banana nut bread with Jeni's ice cream on it. It seems like the banana nut bread was put on a pan with butter because I could eat pounds of it. Jeni's ice cream - must I explain more? Also, it came with a caramelized banana and you can hear the crack of the sugar when you cut into the banana. I'm drooling.
