Buffet is simply great. MoMo and Lamb curry is my best. I was too delighted to see Goat meat curry there when I visited last time. MoMo - for those of you who don't know - is the most popular lunch food in Kathmandu, Nepal. Goat meat curry is one of the important part of Nepali cuisine. Beef is not included in Nepali cuisine as Hindus don't eat cow meat. Duck Chho-E-La is great. Back in Kathmandu, I loved buff Chho-E-La and it was too hot. read more

A fellow diner in my party had the Non-Veg Thali and it was huge. Butter chicken was good and I'm told the eggplant was also well prepared. Great late night food rescue. Ordered online through their website and it was here within 20 minutes! The yogurt sauce was especially nice.

Delivery took 1 hour 49 mins and the food was far too sweet, even though we ordered the spiciest level of heat. They also failed to deliver part of the order. Probably wouldn't order again. Would consider eating at the restaurant at least once, though. read more

The food is great but there was a waiter named Shani...that was so rude when I asked a simple question. I have been here 4 times and its the first time I have had rude customer service. Then when I asked to speak to the manager the waiter Shani gave her number and I couldn't understand so then he took and riped it up. I ordered their Butter Chicken and a kid's meal which was suppose to have Chicken Tikka Masala, but they put Butter Chicken in both to save costs. Shortly after I placed an online delivery order, I received a call that it would take over 90 minutes to receive our food, so I requested to cancel the order. I placed a delivery order from another restaurant, but got a call less than an hour later - rather than the 90 minutes I was told before - that my food from Ghar-E-Kabab had arrived. I explained that I had cancelled that order, and asked for confirmation that I would not be charged. The driver assured me that I would be reimbursed, but a week later, my account is still showing the charge with no reimbursement. read more

I called the restaurant and they called the driver and apparently the driver delivered it to the wrong place. This is not acceptable. It would've been fine if it was late but it was a no-show and they didn't even tell me or apologize! I was so excited about this restaurant being only a 5 minute drive for me. I love indian food and heard such great things on yelp. I went on a Friday night and it was not so much busy only about two tables however the server had sat us at a just cleaned table with no silverware. When the dishes and napkin came they were just placed on the table not in front of us I would have enjoyed sitting at a preset table. We got our menus and knew instantly want we wanted to experience that night. Our waiter then took about fifteen minutes to come to our table he seemed preoccupied with clearing the empty table behind us. "oh you ready? " was his question from the other table he then dropped off more dirty dishes to the back got a pen and paper and came to us. We ordered the vegetable pakora as a appetizer and then I got the green kabab and boyfriend got the tandori salmon with garlic naan. The food came in a timely fashion and was pretty great however after we were done eating the empty appetizer plate sat for five minutes before being cleared and our entrees were left for more than fifteen minutes with empty glasses next to them. I had my whole meal without a refill of my drink. Another waiter must have heard me talking about our service because right after I had said something to boyfriend about the service he had removed our plates, refilled the drinks and had gotten the check for us. I loved the food thought it was great however I think that I may go Steve Y's route and order take out. read more

The worst dining experience! I sent in my son who is African American to get us a table while I was parking, they told him it will be 35 minutes. When I parked and came in I could see that there were several open tables, when I asked why we could't be seated they apologized and cleared a table and sat us at a dirty table. I had to ask them to clean the table. It then took 20 minutes to come and take the drink orders. We asked about the dinner for two options, and were told that it was a printing error although we could see that other people were being served the item we were trying to order. It took 45 minutes lapsed, and there was no food yet so we asked if we could pay for our drinks and leave. They then scrambled and brought out the food. It was cold and the Naan was stale, the whole thing looked like leftovers put in small containers and set on a platter. The vegetables tasted like they were cooked 3 days earlier. In the mean while there were non black people who came in and and the waiters rushed to sit them their drinks were served right away, and they were served food even though they came after we were sitted. If you are a black person I suggest you stay away from this place. The food and the service was the worst I have had in the dc Metro area in a very long time. read more

I have lived in Silver Spring for almost eight years and only this year did I discover this hidden gem. The location is on quieter part of downtown Silver Spring and very inconspicuous, right across from the county garage. I came here for dinner one night and came back for the lunch buffet and for $9.99, it's an absolute bargain relative to what you will easily pay for lunch in the area. First, the restaurant is clean and very quiet. You won't get crowds of people here because probably not too many people know about it. I love their buffet because the food is absolutely delicious. Really like this place. I've only been for dinner so I can't speak for the buffet but the dinner is great. The price is a little high but they are on zazzco.com which helps bring the cost down if you're a Zazzco member. The decor is very nice with white table cloths and they often have fresh flowers on the tables. My favorite dish is the Bhindi Bhaji which is a lightly fried okra dish with great Indian spices. I've also tried a few of the chicken dishes which have been good. Also, I'm obsessed with the Gulab Jamun for dessert. If you haven't tried it here or at another Indian restaurant then you need to try it! read more

I was excited to see momos on the menu since this is a decidedly Nepalese (actually Tibetan) dish that I ate all the time while living in Kathmanudu for 16 months. The sauce was excellent, spicy and thick, but he veg momos were horrendous, and not just bad, but terrible. The wrappers must have been bought at the Safeway; they were thin,nearly translucent, and not at all doughy like you have them in Nepal. And there is an art to folding them over and sealing them up usually produces a beautiful looking dumpling. Not in this case. They were so sad looking and limp that I nearly turned them back. I ordered the dhal makhani dish too, which usually is so full of rich yak butter and flavor but this incarnation fell flat, dull, and insipid. Nor worth it. The table service was slow and inattentive too. All in all disappointing experience, especially since this was recommended by local friends in the 'hood. Sorry Ghar, but you can do better! read more

I almost gave this place 4 stars, but because of the fact that I am literally thinking to myself every day...maybe i could get some food from that indian place....i decided it really deserved 5 stars. We went on a friday night and the place was pretty crowded around dinner time. It did clear out a bit since we started there when most people would be finishing. I had the samosas here and these spinach cheese ball thingys. Unfortuantely I don't remember the name of them....but they were an appetizer. I also had the mango lassi and their ice cream for dessert. My boyfriend had the chicken tikka masala and his roommate had the spinach paneer entree with rice....all of it was sooo good. I was surprised that his roommate's spinach and cheese dish was so flavorful! The naan was also yummy. If anything I would say the ice cream is not exactly what you expect, but it really grew on me. The vegetable samosas here are the best ones i've ever had! Plus, they are organic and have free local delivery....there goes my diet! read more

This place is Naan for me! Lol! I will start with saying I like the table décor. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the service. It was slow, especially considering we were there on a Thursday evening and there were just a few other customers in the restaurant. We ordered tikka masala, chicken curry and naan. It took more than 30 minutes to get only the 1st portion of our food. He brought out curry lamb instead of curry chicken, and when we mentioned that we ordered the chicken he didn't really believe us. He went over to the register to see what was ordered. Ummm HELLO! We, the customers, just explained to you what we ordered. After he confirms at the register that it was curry chicken he then goes to the back and brings us out curry chicken. When he dropped off the curry chicken he says he would bring out the naan later. Ummmmmm! Why was the naan the last thing to come out. The naan wasn't that bad, but the curry wasn't as flavorful as I expected and it was too watery. The tikka masala was a bit too creamy(if that makes sense) and the texture of the chicken just seemed strange. Like almost not cooked enough. So the BANGER for me during this dining experience was when I saw our waiter sneeze directly into both of his hands and continued to serve. He touched the register then picked up the water pitcher and proceeds over to us to refill our water. NO THANK YOU! I can't do uncleanliness. One thing you will notice about the place upon entering, it is Quiet. So quiet you feel like you can't speak freely. The wine is way overpriced, although they offer a decent selection. The food is hit or miss. Often my stomach is upset after, which is not typical for me when eating this type of cuisine. The service is exceptional however, very respectful and attentive. So I stayed in town at the Sheraton on Georgia Ave. for a meeting and decided to order dinner. Placed the order on grub hub at 6:30 pm and was told it would arrive by 7:45 pm. I called the restaurant at 7:10 pm and was told that the driver had left. Since the restaurant is only 4 blocks away, I figured the driver would be there by 7:30. Boy, was I wrong. I went down to the Sheraton lobby and waited. At 7:40, I called the restaurant. The lady who answered the phone yelled at me saying that he driver had been waiting for 30 mins and called me but I didn't answer. I told her that I didn't have any missed calls. Then she just hung up on me. The driver called about 3-4 mins later and told me he was outside. I went out but didnt see him. Turns out he was 7 blocks away. He had limited English proficiency so after a long, dragged out conversation, we established that he needed to come to the Sheraton. About 10 mins later, I get another call and the driver says he is downstairs. I didn't see him and he said the door was locked which would have been really strange for a hotel. Finally, I asked the hotel people to help me out and they talked to him on the phone. Turns out he was standing across the street. t this point, I just wanted to cancel the order. The driver crossed the street and started arguing about how he had to wait, was given the wrong address, I didn't pick up the phone etc.... Now comes the food part...I had ordered saag paneer and garlic naan. Cost around 20 bucks which is a little expensive. The saag paneer was so-so. There were exactly 3 pieces of rock hard paneer to break my teeth on. Naan was cold so couldn't enjoy it. Overall, a very poor experience considering the mediocre food, poor customer service and overall incompetence. Dine or order at your own risk! read more

I could have given a zero if that option was available. We were starving for Indian Food and we had high hopes looking at the other reviews. The servers were not least bit friendly. The food was half cooked or over cooked and bland for the most part. How can you go wrong in cooking basmati rice and call yourself a restaurant? The buffet lunch was really bad and we should have learnt our lesson then. We also went ahead and ordered dinner for delivery. Hi all, I was thinking about this Restaurant for long...but I am 40 minutes away...so, finally last week we (Me, wife & kid) went there for Saturday lunch buffet. Parking is opposite & very convenient. After reading many positive reviews, as usual we have some expectations...we reached around 12:45 pm and the place is one third empty. First I have glanced at the buffet and reduced my expectations by half...as the number of items were exactly half when I compared to my favorite Minerva Indian Restaurant in Rockville. Ok...first there was only one appetizer made with potato...not at all interested. Then I went for Basmati Rice and looked at the non-veg options...there were two, one Chicken Tandoori and the second Lamb curry. Lamb curry doest have much meat left, only little gravy was pending...we all finished that gravy and few Chicken Tandoori pieces left....that's it. We were waiting (as we were only less than half full) for those two dishes to refill....waited....waited....to everybody's surprise after 25 minutes or so, they filled the Tandoori Chicken tray with some deep fried Chicken (just raw chicken pieces deep fried like "French fries") :( As we have no much options to try, we tried the Dessert (Sweet rice pudding) which was disgusting and not made fresh definitely. This was the first time, we happened to leave a restaurant (buffet?) because of no food available!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't have bothered much if we were late or if it is some odd weekday...it was on a Saturday around 1 pm? Food is pretty good but their delivery service is terrible. We got fed up with them finally when they forgot one (of only four) main dishes and didn't order from them again for nearly a year. So, I give the food five stars and the service one star for an average of three...We came tonight with our two five year olds (because we had a groupon, because we heard that kids liked the food, etc). When we came in we were the only folks int he restaurant (another gentleman came in after us)...Now sitting with two five year olds is no fancy time eating out, but as the only folks in the place, the service was very, very slow...When the food came, it tasted great - my kids loved the chicken tika masala was fantstic - both of my kids liked it...I am willing to give them another shot - maybe with take out (not delivery based on what the reviews have said). I had friends over for dinner this evening, and we thought we'd try something new. We opted for Ghar-e-Kabab because we love Indian and they deliver! I used GrubHub to place the order, which I know usually takes twice as long to deliver, but I hate placing orders over the phone and I've gotten used to the wait, so no big deal. My order confirmation said it would be about an hour. After roughly 50 minutes, I got an update from GrubHub that the food was on the way. The restaurant is about 10 minutes away from my address. After 20 minutes and still no food, we called the restaurant, and were told the driver was on his way. It took another 20 minutes after that before he finally showed up. He seemed frazzled, but gave no explanation. We're a little off the main drag, but if he had trouble finding us, he didn't bother to call. Moral of the story: Don't order delivery... unless you really don't mind the wait. On the bright side, the food was pretty good. My friends had the lamb and chicken vindaloo, and I had the chicken korma. They said the vindaloo was extra spicy, but my korma was mild. We all agreed the flavor was good, though. Sadly, there was not enough rice for the three of us to share. In the restaurant, I'm sure they would have brought more, but we ran out pretty quickly. We tried some different kinds of naan, all of which was pretty tasty. None of the containers were labeled, and that would have been helpful with the entrees especially. It's not the best Indian I've had in the DC area, but I did enjoy it. I wish there hadn't been such a long delay. If I have the opportunity to eat there in person, I may give it another chance, but I don't think I'll order for delivery again. read more

I've ordered online from this place and always found it consistently good. My only complaint is that the food could be a little spicier. But I believe the place genuinely uses a clay oven - you can taste it in the naan and in the chicken. I also enjoyed the cucumber yogurt. Also the delivery comes quickly. This weekend I had to go to Silver Spring to pick up my beloved wife glasses and contacts and, since we were in the region, we decided to try some of the local restaurants. Based on Yelp's review I was having a hard time deciding between Negril (Caribbean) and Ghar-E-Kabab but we got the impression that Negril was more of a sandwich joint than a restaurant and decided to go for the Indian cuisine. What a pleasant surprise we had! Contrary to most Indian restaurants we tried, this place has a very simple, yet elegant decor, good service and great food (that is not greasy). The place is tiny (I counted only 12 tables) and, despite the outside, the inside is excellent. Considering the size of the place, it was very nice of the manager to promptly find a table for us that could fit the stroller (which probably would be very difficult to find if the restaurant was slightly busier). The buffet is quite cost-effective (US$10/person) and includes salad, rice, pakoras and about 5 or 6 entrees. You also get complimentary freshly baked Nan (greeeeeaat!). I will certainly go back to try some of the dishes in the menu. read more

I recently moved to Silver Spring from Arizona and was beyond happy that there was an Indian place that delivered. I am by no means a connoisseur of Indian food and I'm a pansy when it comes to spicy but I love Ghar-E-Kebab. The tikka massala is my favorite and my husband has tried several other dishes, all of which have been good. Their naan has been hot and tasty every time we've gotten it delivered and last time I tried the lentil soup and it was fantastic as well. Some time we'll actually make it into the restaurant but for now I'm happy with delivery. Only four stars because it's on the expensive side. read more

Our family recently visited Ghar-e-Kabab for the first time and came away very pleasantly surprised; the food, service and overall value was very good! We explained to our server (Roshan) we were on a tight timeframe and he offered suggestions about what items might be the best match. The menu was varied (with a number of unique items), the food was delicious and served in a nice presentation. We look forward to returning to Ghar-e-Kabab on a future occasion (and hopefully, Roshan will be working that evening as well!) :-) read more
