Worst service ever, my family and cousins walked in at 9:30PM, and we were seated after that, the servers were angry in the back, making jokes about us and us coming in late. We heard them say "Why did seat those people". No restaurant ever says that. Then my brother asked him do you want us to leave and the server said yes, like really? My go to place for Indian food delivery. The food is always tasty Big warning about their lamb and chicken vindaloo, extremely hot if you're not used to it. I however, love it as it'll cure whatever is ailing you. Their butter chicken is rich and creamy but a bit too sweet for my liking, are usually cut the sweetness by mixing in some rice. My only negative is a big one, delivery takes forever. Especially if it's your first time. Once you're on their system it's a bit faster but still too long. I've found that ordering from Yelp is probably the fastest way to get your food to you. read more

I want to give this place more stars, I really do. I've been here a few times over the summer with a good friend of mine, and we order a bunch of vegetarian platters and some of their awesome wine. The first few times we were really well taken care of, even when it was slightly crowded. The last time I went there though, it was on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. They weren't at capacity, but they were busy. We were sat and forgotten for about ten minutes, and I had to flag someone down to ask for a menu. It took an additional 10-15 to get someone to take our order. I was in the middle of writing a note that said "Thanks for the poppadums, but we waited an hour and that was all we got" on the table when our food finally came out. I've never ever experienced such a wait at ANY restaurant. The food was good, and not cold, so I didn't feel like my time was completely wasted. Another thing- I ordered a glass of wine, which our waiter totally forgot. In fact I didn't even see him again until we were ready for our check. I flagged down another waiter and told him that my wine order was forgotten, only to have him cop an attitude and grill my ID for about three minutes. Our waiter did apologize when he brought us the check, which was appreciated, but ultimately it seemed like too little too late. I'll probably go back, but never again on date night. read more

I paid $9.95 for the lunch buffet, which had gobi pakora, chicken curry, chicken tikka, and 3 vegetable dishes. The gobi pakora was pretty good, but the chicken tikka and the chicken curry were both quite disappointing, particularly the curry. I didn't try any of the vegetable dishes, mostly because they did not look at all appetizing. The naan was pretty good, but not incredible. A lot of reviews say that the food was very greasy, but I actually didn't feel that way. I didn't think the pakora was too greasy, for a fried dish, and the curry wasn't really greasy at all - it just had a weird texture and flavor, and was kind of globby instead of saucy, which i disliked. So it's been awhile since I ordered take-out and I had a craving for Indian food. This place was never great, but was good for what it was (admittedly I think the quality went a little downhill from when it opened). I went to order, and found that their prices are now absurd. $13 for channa masala and aloo gobhi? Rasika's vegetarian dishes cost $14 and Ghar-e-Kabab's food is nowhere near as high quality as Rasika's food is. This makes me sad to write because I like to support local businesses but what a rip-off! read more

Great food when you get it. Ordered ahead (through Eat24) by two hours on mother day for food delivery. Two hours later we're still waiting for our food. Eat24 intervened on our bequest (great company!) and the restaurant said our food was on it's away....hour later...still not here. Enjoy your eat-in experience but be wary if you order delivery. Complete rip off when it comes to quantity. They charge $16 for their chicken tikka kebab but include only 6 small pieces. Barely enough for one person. You should include AT LEAST double that amount. read more

Ghar e Kabob is hands down the best indian food in silver spring. The butter chicken and samosas are personal favorites.

Disappointed. Lunch Buffet was unappealing and with very few choices, so I opted for the menu. $16 and up for most everything on the menu. I went with chicken tikka masala. Nothing fancy, just a small bowl of watery tikka masala and rice. Came out luke warm and chicken was dry. Decor was half-assed and so was the service. My opinion is that they charge too much, skimp too much, and pay little attention to the food. I don't know why I would ever go back. read more

I am a big fan of this restaurant. The food is excellent - and they prepare it more healthily than many Indian places. My favorite dish is their boneless goat. Very tender, tasty and not too gamy. It also comes with a delicious green sauce - though I wish they were more liberal with it on the plate. The lamb vindaloo is also quite nice. The appetizers (such as the cho-e-la duck dish) are tasty but not amazing. Their lunch buffet is also great. They change the buffet menu regularly and go beyond the typical chicken tikka/vegetarian dish/butter chicken rotation served at many other Indian restaurants. I really enjoyed their Chana Masala. Flavorful, good texture, very tasty. That says something considering I am not a huge fan of vegetarian dishes. It is, perhaps, a bit pricey and the service is relatively slow. The servers are very friendly, though. The bottom line is this - as a Wheaton resident starved for good Indian food options, this is about as good as it gets near me in Montgomery County. It's not Rasika but i'd say it's in the next tier. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside and is easy to overlook in downtown Silver Spring, but it's a little gem. A tad pricey for the portion sizes, but the lamb vindaloo and butter chicken were excellent. Friendly staff, but a little bit of a language barrier - we had a box of cupcakes with us and asked if we could set them on one of the many empty tables since the tables are small and there was absolutely no room on ours, and they seemed to think we were giving them the cupcakes. I really like this restaurant. I have been there twice now. The first time, our meal took a really long time to be delivered to the table. Today it was really quick. The staff was polite. The food was blah. It was not busy when we ordered, so I thought that the food was going to be really good because it was taking so long. I do not mind waiting for delicious food. The momo's did not seem to be steamed, it was like they were microwaved, which is disappointing. The saag paneer was passable. I would not order it again. My friend liked her veggie biryani, but she said she would not return to this restaurant. We ordered coffee with dessert, but they didn't want to make it. Never had that happen before! Whatever. Tried for the first time tonight (got takeout, so can't speak to some of the issues people have had with delivery) and I was pleased. Ordered the veggie samosa and pakora, wife had the chana masala and I had the Kukhura ko Masu (an allegedly Nepalese chicken dish, but seemed pretty much like your standard northern Indian fare). All were tasty. The ko Masu was a bit oily, but the flavor was great and had a decent amount of spice (more than I am used to getting without asking the restaurant to kick up the heat in any case). Both the pakora and samosa were crispy (which is certainly not always the case with takeout). Portion sizes were not huge, but certainly sufficient, and actually our two entrees came with a ton of rice, which pleased my wife greatly, as I am usually commanded to order extra for her. Far better than Bombay Gaylord and will definitely go back. read more

Have eaten here twice, and once at Shangri-La, the sister restaurant in Bethesda which has the same menu and to me at least is pretty much the same experience. I wasn't knocked out by the Nepalese vegetarian Thali, but have enjoyed the basic Indian vegetarian dishes I've tried such as aloo ghobi and mattar paneer. I thought the tandoori chicken was outstanding, so I'm surprised other reviewers have had a bad experience with it. Naan was pretty good and seemed fresh. The rice was ok but not memorable. Maybe I've just been lucky, but on both visits to this location the service has been very quick and friendly. We've made reservations on weekends but the reservations didn't really seem to be necessary. Pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. I think this place will be a mainstay for when we're looking to eat in downtown Silver Spring. read more

I only order delivery from this restaurant so maybe that's the difference between my experience and that of some other reviewers, but the food we've received has always been delicious. I especially recommend the Saag Aloo and Channa Masala! My wife and I really, really like Ghar-E-Kabab. We used to live on the same block as the restaurant which made it an easy choice to try. We have since been back over 15 times and brought our families and friends with us. The service is always top notch. Papadan comes straight to your table when you sit down, which is a really nice touch. We typically will order various types of curries and have an excellent meal. I have to be honest, for the longest time I didn't like Ghar-e-Kebab because their food was far too mild for my taste. But they bowled me over on a recent trip, with two things: a) They are terrific with little kids. My son got a miniature mango lassi and a kid's meal of butter chicken and saag paneer with rice in a divider plate. He LOVED it. We did not even order him anything (I planned to feed him off my plate) -- this was provided to us for free. (If your little one has dietary restrictions you may need to discuss that with them.) b) They explained their lack of spice. Everything comes mild unless you ask for otherwise. But once I ordered my dish spicy, it was perfect -- enough to wake you up but not so much you couldn't eat it. I only wish that were written on the menu so we'd know! I vacillated between 4 and 5 stars because the ambience is so-so (classic 'Indian restaurant', feels a little dark and too quiet, a bit dated) but I can get over that (plus with a little one I'm usually hyper-aware of how much noise we make, and they didn't care at all). read more

Love their food, but their delivery radius stinks. I submitted a delivery order online only to have my order cancelled because I live too far. There was no mention of a delivery restriction on their website. A 5 mile delivery radius doesn't seem unreasonable (DT Silver Spring to Wheaton). I even offered to tip more/pay extra. I've been a patron at this restaurant many times. If you can't deliver, I will no longer take the time to visit your restaurant in person when dining out. read more
