Unfortunately the food here is quite good but the service is memorably awful. My husband and I and our 2 young kids came for the Saturday lunch buffet on 4/29/2017 at 1 pm and were told that they wouldn't charge for my 3 year old son or my 18 month old daughter. The kids barely ate anything, mostly rice and a little tandoori chicken. However when we got the bill, we were charged not for 2 adults but for 3 adults. When we asked why we were being charged more especially since we specifically confirmed that the kids are no charge, we were told that it was because I "wasted so much goat meat" and that was true- I simply could not eat anymore and had taken 2-3 pieces too many. The waiter told us he was the manager and that his name was Carlos. Most likely neither of those are true. We also asked to speak to the owner who had just asked us how the food was a few minutes ago but we were told that he already left. The food was great but unfortunately the service ruined our entire day. I didn't understand why this place is so poorly rated but now I know. I hope others have a better service experience than we had. read more

This place is only worth going to for the $9.99 buffet. Even then there are a few tricks to make your experience better. First, do not show up when the open at 11:30 am. The buffet will not be ready and you will wait 15 min before you can start eating (if you are lucky). So get there around 11:45 and you will beat any lunch rush that might happen and the food will be hot. If you get there after the lunch rush the food will be luke warm to cold. Complaints: They will bring bread out very slowly. You will be done with your first plate before you get bread. Even if there are two of you they will only give you 1 basket of naan which amounts to 1 naan (4 wedges). Customer service is horrible. read more

We went for the lunch buffet on a Wednesday, priced 11$ per person. The food is mostly vegetarian, as expected, with two types of chicken. The first was butter chicken which was very sweet, but the tandoori chicken was good. The remaining dishes were average but no so spicy. The rice putting was simply rice and milk, no flavor. Over all, the setting was OK and servers were around. The bathroom wasn't clean and needed much repairs. Came in for an early dinner with a friend and her 20 month old. The atmosphere was relaxed yet still had a very classy feel. The service was great and the food was good. Their selection of nan was extensive and varied. Would come back next time I come to visit and would recommend it for anyone who loves paneer. read more

We ordered for the second time last night after having a nice meal from them a few weeks before. But this time it was a large order and we were very disappointed! The food was cold, some of it bland, took a long time to arrive and to be honest was well over priced for the amount of food you receive. The Chana Masala was tasteless, we got two thigh pieces for the half chicken entree, the Ghar-E-mixed grille was over priced and the appetizers were cold and bland. We received loads of rice (of course), but for the food we actually paid a lot of money for there was not much of. We ordered 5 appetizers and 5 entrees for 5 people and there were no leftovers apart from rice (of course) and I we were left feeling unsatisfied after spending $120 for a delivery! wont be ordering from here again! read more

Ordered pickup via eat24 in the yelp app about 10 minutes after they opened. Was given a wait time by the app of 10-30 min. I arrived to pick-up about 25 minutes after the order was placed and was told it wasn't ready yet. Eventually we waited another 30 minutes in the restaurant until they had it ready to go. Very disappointed it took them an hour to have our order ready. There were no apologies for the long wait. As for the food itself - it was just average as Indian restaurants go. Nothing stood out as amazing and some dishes needed work. The chicken tikka masala was bland and the naan was quite small. I'll be trying a different place for Indian cuisine next time. read more

Delicious! Everything we have had has been tasty. We love the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, samosas, and saag paneer. We also like trying the platters when we dine in. The vegetable pokra is great with beer. Delivery is great and they actually can find our house instead of delivering to the apartment down the street, which has been a weird common problem for us. Remember that guy or gal in elementary and/or middle school who no one really liked, was anywhere from a tad to extremely awkward, and probably had the booger touch and cooties concurrently (and somehow managed to live)? Then in high school and/or college, you run into said guy or gal and he/she is completely different and extremely desirable, so much so that he/she is annoyingly inaccessible? This is how I feel about downtown Silver Spring (DT SS). I can't exactly recall what it was before it was completely redone, but I know that I rarely went there other than to see a doctor or drive into DC. But now that SS is the popular kid, 29 South/Georgia Ave/Columbia Pike/whatever the deuce it's called at any given stretch, is rapidly rising on my most-hated streets list. Still, being one of the quickest ways into NW and for providing such awesomeness as AFI Silver, Sabroso Grill, and Oriental East, I'll brave that annoying drive, esp. when southbound is inexplicably down to 0 lanes as the left lane is for ppl turning left and the right lane is for parked cars. Add to that growing list of awesomeness, Ghar-E-Kabab - a great place for tasty Indian grub! Food - Right off the bat, the entrees do not come w/ naan/bread. For some, this may not be an issue, but for me, it's as egregious as going to buy a computer and they give you a keyboard but no mouse. They're both input devices, the rice & naan and keyboard & mouse, and I use the rice to input sauce into my oralfice and the naan to transport the meat. Technically, you -can- get by with just using a keyboard for input but that's grossly inefficient. And charging $2.50 for a nominal portion of naan ($7 for a basket), combined w/ the location makes your star rating the human cell equivalent of having less than 46 chromosomes. So while Ghar-E-Kabab was set up for mediocrity, the food made me a fan. And besides, they have a $9.99 lunch buffet (Mon-Sat). Where can you find that in DT SS? Since the chicken tikka masala ran about $13, adding bread would've brought it to $15.50, so I decided to go w/ the $19.99 Non-vegetarian thali (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thali), which came w/: - Samosa - fluffy, crispy, potato-y, and well spiced. Very nice. - Saag paneer - spicy and good - Lamb curry - lamb was rather gamey, the curry sauce was just ok - Chicken tikka masala - ZOMG! TASTY! You're going to need to order extra rice to make sure you get every last bit of that saucy goodness. Chicken was incredibly tender and flavorful on its own. - dal - they are lentils. I've already said 3 words too much. - Mixed veggies - in a curry sauce. Mmmm, fiber! Not that Indian food needs -that- much help passing through your system anyway. - naan - YAY! - Yogurt sauce - with the delicious tikka masala sauce, this became useless. - dessert - rice pudding. While it sounds like a lot of food, it can really only feed 1. In fact, they were the curried versions of amuse-bouche (props to Paul M. for teaching me something new). Ok, maybe 2-4 bites if you stretch it. The regular dishes are served in those little things that rest over a tea light that seem ubiquitous at Indian restaurants now. As a result, the portion looks rather measly when it gets to your table, but combined with the rice, it actually becomes a satisfying meal. The chicken korma and the lamb rogan josh (I think that's Seth Rogen's brother) were also tasty. Oh, almost forgot, they bring out those Indian Tostitos but they are SPICY. Finally, the tamarind chutney here is amazing. My only gripe is that they don't provide enough of it. Location - there's street parking and you can park for free at the Wayne Ave garage (after 6 pm M-Th, after 5 pm Fri, free on weekends), which is right across the street. The chef here was apparently a chef at the Bombay Club as his picture w/ Bill Clinton is hanging near the back of the restaurant. The lighting is dim, the interior is small (read: cramped) but can accommodate larger groups. Service - the staff is friendly and they took a reservation for our large group. read more

I am saddened to give Ghar-E-Kebab one star, as their food itself is really quite good. Nonetheless, the absolutely, persistently terrible service to delivery customers is astonishing. For the better part of a year, my wife and I were spending more than $100/month regularly ordering from Ghar-E-Kebab several times every month. Throughout 2010, though, we observed a slow and steady decline in delivery service. Orders took longer and longer to arrive. Mistakes were more frequent; tikka masala being delivered without rice, etc. And there were NEVER any useful solutions to the problem, besides a verbal "oh, we're sorry." Ghar-E-Kebab finally lost our business when they delivered food, with no explanation, 3.5 hours after the order was placed. The food was *COLD*. And it was incomplete. Hoping it was an aberration, we ordered again 2 days later. After 2 hours with no delivery, the restaurant called us, claiming they couldn't verify our credit card information (which was the same credit card saved to their website and submitted for dozens and dozens of orders). We verified it. They said the order would be on the way. 75 minutes later still no food. We called the restaurant. They told us the order was cancelled; CANCELLED AFTER THEY CALLED US TO VERIFY IT!? We pointed out the repeated problems, and the fact that the order was over 3 hours late, and they hadn't even STARTED on it yet. At this point it was well after 10pm. Their only solution was to "graciously" offer $5 off. For an order that was 3+ hours late. For the second time in 3 days. To a customer who was spending over $1,000/year on delivery orders from their restaurant. That was the last time we ordered for 6 months. Recently, we decided to take one final plunge again to Ghar-E-Kebab. A delivery that arrived 85 minutes later, cold, put the nail in the coffin. It's truly amazing how such good quality food can be absolutely destroyed by such terrible customer service. read more

I have been a long time customer of this restaurant. Authentic taste of India. I've had almost everything on the menu but my absolute fav is the Lamb Sag which has chunks of tender lamb, spinach and a spicy curry. The chicken vindaloo, tandoori and samosas are a must. Don't forget try the the creamy mango lassy. You won't regret it. Stick to the chicken and lamb, although the menu is great, the seafood was a bit dry for me. First off, let me say my fiance and I LOVE the food at Ghar-e-Kabab. However, today was the fifth, and final, time where they messed up our delivery order. Considering the already high prices, small portions and very slow delivery times (we live less than a mile from their location and delivery time is typically nearly 90 minutes) we were already mildly annoyed with our experience, yet their food quality kept bringing us back. However, the mistakes kept getting more frequent, such as inaccurate orders (e.g., forgot our order of naan once, we requested a double salad instead of side salad and rice, yet they gave us three orders of rice and no salad, etc.) and would make noticeable mistakes on simple order directions (e.g, mildly spiced dish was delivered far too spicy, we received a regular order of naan when I paid extra for stuffed naan). Again, these were annoyances, but acceptable because we so enjoy the food. However, today was the final straw. I placed an order at noon with a delivery time of 8PM in hopes it would be fresh and hot when my fiance got home. Instead they delivered the food at 1:30 with, yet again, an incorrect order. I returned the food to their restaurant and complained about their increasingly frustrating delivery issues and this mistake particularly. Instead of being understanding and attempting to fix the issue, they spent the first 5 minutes claiming they didn't have anything that showed I placed an order. This was despite me having a bag with their food in it, their receipt stapled to the bag, my printed online receipt and my order history showing them we are very loyal customers averaging at least one order every month. Finally, they agreed it was their error and they promised they would deliver the food at the correct time with the correct order. They didn't offer a discount, or a anything to account for their mistake. They finally delivered the food approximately 10 minutes ago and once again they gave us 3 orders of rice instead of two salads and no rice, and finally the two orders of paneer pakora was only one order. Moral of the story is, the food is great, the service, particularly delivery service, is abysmal and they make mistakes so frequently I can't recommend them any longer. Buyer beware! read more

Yum!! Yes, it's a little pricey given the portion sizes, but I thought the food was great! We shared butter chicken (everyone's hands-down favorite!), saag aloo, and boti kabab, along with a mixed bread basket. Loved it all, although I thought the plain naan could have used some more butter. The mango lassi was probably the best I've had - definitely not overly sweet. Got the saag paneer and naan for take out. The saag paneer was very oily and lacked flavor. The naan was soggy, but I think that happened due to the travel back home. If the place is close then that is fine. Otherwise there are other South Asian cuisines I recommend. Although the wait could be long, it is all worth the wait. The people that work here are very nice. The manager is very friendly and willing to help you as much possible. I come here about once a week with my girlfriends parents, and my favorite dish is the chicken vindaloo! I also order Mulligatawny soup. All of you lentil soup lovers should definitely gives this amazing soup a try. Even those of you that don't love lentil soups, I assure you that this soup will leave you craving for more! The food is amazing here! I love their chicken tikka masala, it melts into your mouth. The naan bread is amazing and so fresh. The momo, which can be chicken or vegetable, is very tasteful and spicy. Food wise this place is excellent. I've had my share of indian food from new york down to dc and this ranks as a top 5. The quality of the food is fresh and flavorful. They supposedly use local organic ingredients. I always wonder how they can prove that, but the food tastes great so I'll take their word for it. The only knock is the atmosphere, this is one of those joints that believe in eating in the dark. It's also physically a tiny place so there's not much elbow room and everything feels cramped. When Ghar E-Kabab opened, I was overjoyed that Silver Spring finally got another Indian restaurant to unseat Bombay Gaylord from their monopoly on mediocre Indian cuisine. We tried Ghar E-Kabab on their 4th day of business. They were still working out the service kinks, but the manager (owner?) was very courteous and apologetic. The restaurant filled up shortly after we got there, a significant number of whom had come at the recommendation of a neighborhood listserve post. Our 2-year-old daughter was offered a mango lassi and her meal was free too (children under 4 eat free)! The food was okay during that visit, but nothing to write home about. Fortunately, because it was a new local business, we opted to give it another try -- lo and behold, the difference was noticeable. First of all, the frozen vegetables that were ubiquitous during our first-week visit had disappeared. The biryani was filled with the familiar ingredients that I've been accustomed to in other restaurants -- sweet golden raisins, cardamom, nuts. My husband ordered a meat thali, which is a delicious platter consisting of about 8 different sampler dishes, and the restaurant has proven to be quite popular. We were happy to see that it has taken off, and is really finding its legs. We've also tried out their free home delivery by ordering on the web. The owner/manager personally delivered our order, and was so courteous. I think the delivery might have taken a little bit longer than promised, but he was so polite and apologetic, and took the time to find out how we'd heard about them. The food was still fresh, hot and delicious, and the portion sizes are excellent. Great job, Ghar E-Kabab, and Bravo! read more

I have eaten in a couple of times and I've gotten delivery two or three times. I used to think this was good. Now, I'm changing my mind. I recently ordered matar paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both were bland and the CTM's sauce was too sweet. The MP had very few peas in its sauce and the cubed paneer didn't seem like it had been fried for more than a second, either. I had called back after placing my order to make sure they automatically put a little plastic container of spicy chutney in each order and he said they did. They did not! If I was just rating the food, then I would give Ghar-E-Kabab 5 stars. The Tandoori chicken was delicious and the Saag Paneer was perfect. That being said, everything was very expensive and the delivery took almost 2 hours (I live 15 minutes away). By the time the food got there, some of it was cold and I was so hungry I had been on the verge of cooking something myself. I wouldn't know authentic Nepalese food if I saw it, but everything that we ordered here was delicious. We ordered the Cho-e-La as an appetizer, but for some reason we never received it. We also had the Chicken Salad and the Karahi Lamb, with Naan and Onion Kulcha. We didn't even touch the salad as the naan, kulcha, and lamb filled us up. Very fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors. Before dining here, I have never had Nepal food before. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and the impeccable service we received. My dining guests and I shared 5 dinner items as well as 2 appetizers. This was plenty of food for 5 people as we ended up packing up quite a bit afterwards. We enjoyed our dinner with a tasty beer which complemented the food very nice. I probably will not get the chance to eat at this restaurant for a while =( as it is basically across the country for me. read more

I went to this restaurant last Friday night with 3 other folks. We were seated right away and the service for the whole evening was excellent. We got a basket of papadums and ordered some good Indian beer. We had very tasty samosas and pakoras for appetizers. For dinner, we ordered the butter chicken, bindhi (okra), chicken tikka masala and chicken korma - all of which was pretty good (although I've had better). The naan was just okay and the basmati rice was just okay too. I would recommend this place for local SS folks craving decent Indian food - its worth a try. This place I will never forget and never go to again. I have been to many many kabob places none of which made me laugh like this. There was some weird chant playing loudly and the CD was obviously damaged and it kept skipping the whole time we were eating. The waitress saw us laughing and basically didn't even realize the CD was ruined and trust me it was inexcusable. I recommend the owners turn down the chant cuz even though it was a year ago since I have been here I still recall the words to the chant. Anyways, we ordered our food and it took soooo long. The food did not bad, but for the price there was hardly anything on the plate. There was no rice or bread just the kabob with some salad. read more

I had been meaning to try this restaurant for a while and was very pleased with my meal here. I decided to be a little daring and order something new, choosing a goat kabab dish. It was delicious! The combination of spices used to season the goat was just right, a very flavorful experience. The naan was also very good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also very quiet and the wait staff very attentive. Overall, a great experience. Can't wait to go back and try another dish! read more
