We did not have a good experience with Get Up and Go Movers. The movers were very nice, but they came without the necessary tools. We did a within building move, and the reason we hired movers is because we had a couple pieces we wanted to safely move. They arrived without blankets. Unfortunately, our dining room table was scratched. They did give us a discount off the move, which was nice, but we would have much preferred to pay full price and just have a safe move. We thought we ordered mere mortals that would assist lifting some things in our move....little did we know that we inadvertently hired magicians directly out of the mind of JK Rowling. I put in an order to have 2 helpers for 3 hours, fully expecting a 5-6 hour move (our previous move with 3 helpers and significantly less furniture with a different company took 5 hours). But the strangest thing happen- as if they Men-in-Blacked me and altered my memory because the next thing I knew it was 2 and a half hours later and we were not only moved out of one place, but they had bippity boppity booped our stuff into the new home. The last time I had a different company I feel like I broke my back helping the three of them lifting heavy stuff, whereas these guys were so freaking good, I think I just had to lift some pillows and blankets (they were big pillows). Moving sucks, and we had our fair share of bumps along the way into this new spot, but these wizards of the dark arts made the physical move day a breeze. I've been on a self-imposed yelp moratorium this week because I've been so focused on my move. But now I'm unpacked, settled in and ready to get back to my priorities - like yelping. I rented the smallest truck from Uhaul and also hired load and unload help from Get Up and Go Movers. The reviews on the emove.com site were very good. I weighed paying for loading help versus getting friends to help. For two movers for two hours, the total fee was $125 - pretty much a no-brainer. If you get your friends to help, you're indebted to them and you must help them if they ever move. The two men from Get Up and Go were on time, friendly and professional. They were careful and mindful of my belongings from transporting them on dollies to placing the items in the truck. They took direction very well. The most important part is that they finished in 2 hours - 1 hour for the loading, 10 minutes to drive to my new place and 50 minutes for the unloading. I had a one-bedroom apartment but I didn't have much furniture besides a queen mattress, 4 drawer dresser and computer desk and chair. Any more furniture and I would have had to hire a 3rd mover or add an extra hour to the process. I was very satisfied with Get Up and Go and would recommend it for your next (local) move - they only serve a 100 mile radius of the DC-metro area. So, ok, I'll be the one to say it. Josh and Andrew showed up with their yellow notepad and I was like "whoa! How is this going to work?!" Deaf movers? We have to move some things into a Pod, some things onto a pickup and some things simply from upstairs to downstairs, and some things simply weren't getting packed. In my ignorance, I was thinking this was a complicated move and this would only make it more challenging. I'm embarrassed and straight up delighted to say I couldn't have been more wrong. I've moved 13 times and have used a wide range of movers, from corporate to craigslist. These two were HANDS DOWN the best movers I've ever seen. They showed up right on time and jumped right into loading. They kicked ass on our move. They were extremely gentle with possessions and stayed in constant communication with writing/texting/gestures on what was being moved where. Josh is a straight Tetris-level Pod-packing ninja and got an unreal amount of stuff in there. We ended up needing a second Pod, and they took off, grabbed another one, loaded it up, and STILL finished our move on schedule. Instead of dragging our dirty grill through the house, Andrew rolled it all the way around the block to the front. WOW, that's service! And the best part, we weren't entirely ready (unsealed boxes, no cash on hand, etc.) and they just rolled with it...no stress, no irritation (and they had every right to be). And Josh had jokes! Seriously, these were the nicest guys, and part of me was a little sad to see them drive away. I would unequivocally recommend Josh and Andrew to anyone needing movers. This is a story of The Great Balsamic Spill of 2010. Unfortunately, I loaded my storage container on my own. Big mistake. My inexperience meant that a large bottle of TJ's Balsamic Vinegar spilled over much of my belongings. Luckily, I hired Get Up and Go Movers to unload my storage container. Faced with a long haul from the parking lot, through the garage and to the freight elevator, significant rain, and so much vinegar I imagine they will never eat salad again, these two guys moved me quickly and without staining my rugs. They alerted me and cleaned balsamic vinegar as necessary. This included moving balsamic stained boxes and a ruined chair to the recycling area so I didn't have to. Definitely more than most movers would have done. They were courteous, VERY well priced and didn't break, drop or scratch anything. Best of all they were on time (necessary because my s.c. company wanted to pick up the container asap). These guys were great, I'd definitely go back to them again for a similar move. I hired them to help unload a PODS storage unit that had been delivered to my new apartment. The prices are now a little higher than the review below noted, but still very very reasonable ($40 flat travel fee and $70/hour). The actual moving was done in an hour. Not only were they really careful with everything, but they helped put together two of the bigger pieces of furniture - definitely above & beyond the job requirement since the pieces started out disassembled in the storage unit. read more

This moving company is legit - this is the second year that we've used them to move apartments, and I can't say enough good things about them. The movers I've had the pleasure to meet have all been top notch. They're hard working, never complain, are always pleasant and have a positive attitude. Not only that, but they've always handled our possessions with care, and the way in which they fit everything into the truck - like a huge game of Tetris - was pretty impressive. Moving can be an exhausting and stressful experience, but I'm so glad I went with this company, as it took a lot of that stress out of the picture. Our movers were so great that we offered to buy them lunch on top of everything for their hard work, but they were modest and politely declined. These guys are the BEST. My husband used to work for a moving company in his twenties, and he's never been so impressed with movers in his life. We've hired Get Up and Go twice, once for a move in 2016 and once just now, in January 2020. Both times they did amazing work. We didn't realized how much stuff we had accumulated since 2016, and for the most recent move we underestimated how large a truck we'd need. Get Up and Go had to make two trips, filling the truck both times, but when other movers would have quit and said they'd finish the job another day, these guys kept going -- working 13 hours, lugging our gigantic couch up four flights of stairs. I had a stellar experience from Get Up and Go Movers. Dan and Rickey were the most professional and efficient movers I have ever seen. They clearly had their stuff together and worked almost in unison. I stood by to give my opinion every now and then, but it was all their show. They also were very gracious and calming when it turned out some of my belongings got busted en route to the destination. They're both funny guys with great senses of humor, but not to the point of lacking empathy. I would ask these guys to help me again in a hearbeat. I have some furniture I need to get rid of (my apartment, previously sight-unseen, is smaller than planned), and I will definitely hit them up for help. read more

I hired Get Up and Go Movers though movinghelp.com for my move in June. I thought the service was great for the price. For $60 an hour I got two guys who were strong and skilled at packing my many pieces of furniture into the Uhaul. If you are debating between hiring "moving helpers" and enlisting friends to help move, my vote is to pay the $120 and hired these guys. It's worth it to know that they will show up on time and be strong enough to move that heavy dresser. Some advice -- Movinghelp.com recommended that I book two guys for two hours for a one bedroom apartment. But, if you have stairs or heavy furniture this will not be enough. I thought that I could just extend the my time with the movers, but they had another job that afternoon. My fault! They were good sports, and we pretty much ran back and forth from the truck to my house to finish unloading the boxes. read more

When I got ready to plan for my first in town move, I asked friends for recommendations on DC movers. Several had used local movers, but only one actually recommended the company she used--Get Up and Go Movers. Between the personal recommendation and the positive online reviews, I went with Get Up and Go Movers and was not disappointed. Moving is such a stressful time and Get Up and Go Movers really helped alleviate some of the pain. At first, I thought I would have to rent and drive my own truck, which I was not looking forward to. However, they did offer a moving truck for an additional cost and I jumped at the chance. One less thing for me to worry about and the price was fair considering what I would have paid for my own moving truck (considering rental fee, insurance, gas, sanity, etc.). The three movers arrived at the time we decided on and were friendly and personable. I was moving out of an English Basement, so it was pretty tricky to get some of the larger items out and they had to move out the back and through the upstairs apartment, with a few flights of stairs, not a simple move. My couch was going to be a problem getting out as it was a problem getting in and they worked HARD to get it out of the apartment. And no complaining, they saw the challenge and accepted and accomplished it! The move-in to the new place was much easier, it was ground level and they had me in within 30 minutes. I found the price to be completely fair. Definitely worth it! On top of everything, all three of the movers were really nice and were a pleasure to be around. These are the best movers I have ever used. I used them twice in the past two weeks - once to move the contents of a storage facility to my new apartment, and then to unload a mobile storage unit (PODs) into the same apartment. Both times I was thoroughly impressed with their speed, efficiency, and care. They were promptly on time both dates, and were quick but still very careful with my items. They arranged the boxes carefully in the appropriate rooms with the labels facing out to make my unpacking even easier. I can't recommend these guys enough - I'll definitely be using them again next time I have to move. read more

These guys were great. I needed to move a 1BR apt into two PODs (a 1BR with a ton of large furniture, that is) and I realized soon after I had the PODs delivered that I may not have estimated enough room for all of our stuff. Jesus and (unfortunately I can't remember the second guy's name since this was about 3 weeks ago) did an excellent job strategically packing the two PODs. In the end, they were able to pack everything into the two units and my PODs within the 2 hours that I had been originally quoted for. I left the greater-DC area to move north but would definitely recommend these guys and will be using them again if I make my way back down to the area. read more

I can't recommend Get Up and Go Movers enough. We used them when we moved into our apartment to unload the truck and we just moved them to move our stuff out of our apartment to load everything onto the moving truck. They came extra early to accommodate our schedule. The plan was to have them move everything down to the truck loading area so that when the truck arrived, they could load it quickly and send it on its way (the arrangement with the truck company was that the driver would get paid if he had to be there more than an hour). When the moving truck ended up being an hour and a half late, the Get Up and Go guys were luckily able to work longer and were very understanding. They are super fast--I was amazed at how quickly they got everything done. I'm sad we're moving out of area--I would use these guys again in a heartbeat! They saved us a lot of the stress that comes with moving! read more

We used these guys to move a 1BR down to a loading dock, into a van, and around the corner into a POD. The email quote was pretty fast and a fair price, and since we didn't need movers with a truck, they seemed like the way to go. They did show up about an hour later than we agreed, but they did not say they would still leave at the agreed-upon time either. I would say that it did cost me about $16 or so because the van was sitting there for an hour without being utilized, due to them showing up at 10am instead of 9am. They got to work fast though, and communicated pretty well either through lip reading or texts. They followed our packing instructions for the POD and finished in about the time we both thought it would take. 4 stars, and I would recommend if all you need are two hard workers to move your stuff. read more

Fantastic company - highly recommend!! To be honest, I selected GUGM because they were highly rated and cheap. What I didn't know, but soon found out, is that these guys are FAST. We moved out of two apartments (1 in Arlington, 1 in Dupont Circle) in 2 hours. I'm serious. To be fair, (and give myself a pat on the back) the apartments were COMPLETELY packed and ready to go, with elevators reserved and loading docks ready. That said, the crew took everything down quick, packed carefully, and sent us on our way. We're in the moving truck now on our way to Boston and can't get over how cheap & quick that was. BOOK THEM. These are the best movers I've ever had. And I move often! They were easy to schedule and showed up as promised- actually texted me that they could come early, which was fantastic. I bought a 7 foot sofa from someone in my building. The seller said his movers carried it up the stairs because it wouldn't fit in the elevator and it barely fit through the apartment door. These guys slid it right out, into the elevator with ease, and right into my apartment like it was nothing. They were very polite and so nice! They even offered to put down my rug and rehung art I'd taken down, even though I hadn't asked! Hire these guys!!! read more

I had 1 OK experience with Get Up and Go Movers, so I arranged their service for my next move. They confirmed ahead of time, but on the day of my move, they no-showed. I kept texting (the workers were hearing impaired), and they stopped responding. No explanation. They never apologized or even acknowledge bailing on me. Just left me hanging on my move day. About the worst possible thing a moving company can do to a customer. Don't give them business. read more

It was several weeks or months ago I got this service as I was threatened harm by movers so wanted to wait be sure they did not know who left this. Do not use! The movers were late, smelled of body odor, and broke items. Very hard to communicate with before and after move. Total disaster :( no desire to make up for awful experience with awful damage. My roommate and I recently hired Get Up and Go Movers to move our 2 bedroom apt in Dupont to our new place in Glover Park. The two young guys showed up a bit early and got to work. I had never experienced deaf movers before, but the communication seemed to go OK... until they began bouncing my gorgeous antique bureau down a flight of stairs as they were not strong enough to lift it and slid my cream leather sofa down the dirty building hallway even after I tried explaining that we had bought a sofa cover to avoid just that. We had paid extra money at Uhaul for furniture pads that went untouched. As a result, that bureau ended up with a gash in one of the doors, the cream leather sofa was torn, scuffed, and dirty, our dining room table chipped and scratched, and my roommate's desk dented into submission. The workers were extremely friendly and had a great sense of humor over the communication difficulties, but if I were willing to accept that my furniture would all be destroyed, I would have just paid some friends in beer rather than the hundreds of dollars we ended up shelling out for this move. We're currently trying to get a response about their insurance policy - crossing our fingers they have one, otherwise thousands of dollars of furniture is now trashed. read more

My boyfriend and I used Get Up and Go Movers on August 23 for a move we had within Arlington (Ballston to Courthouse). Robin Shannon, Brian Greco and Walter Pliszka were FANTASTIC. All three of them were so patient while we ran into a 2-hour delay with obtaining a U-Haul truck first thing that morning. They just got right to work by moving stuff out of our house and on to the curb to prepare for loading. When the truck finally arrived, they were extremely quick and efficient in getting all of our stuff properly loaded on to the truck. I am still amazed that they managed to fit all of our stuff into the 17' truck to require only ONE trip to the new apartment. They even offered to move a few random items in their minivan on the way over, so that we would not have to do it in an extra trip. NOTHING was damaged in our move using this company. I had a lot of breakable items, such as wine glasses, vases, cups, dishes, wine bottles, and a glass tabletop desk. They loaded and unloaded everything perfectly. They were clearly experienced gentlemen. On the other end, Mark (owner) was extremely professional, courteous, and accommodating with the few hiccups that occurred in the schedule of our move. He is a great business owner. He is clearly concerned about maintaining the great reputation of his company. I highly recommend using Marks' moving company, Get Up and Go Movers, LLC to ANYONE for the areas they service. They make a really awful experience (moving is the worst) into less of a nightmare! read more

What a frustrating experience. We confirmed 3 movers for 3 hours (from 3-6pm) for a labor-only move within our building. We wanted that package because we were moving from one condo to another, plus a storage unit (also within the building). At noon, one of the movers texted us to confirm. An hour later, he texted to cancel because of a personal issue that meant he wouldn't have transportation. We called the main number and spoke with Mark, who said we'd have to reschedule. It was only upon insisting that it had to be that day because of our nonrefundable moving fee already paid to the condo association that they managed to find a way to come as scheduled. However, only 2 movers showed up, with the clear expectation that they would be here 2 hours. The positive - they worked very hard and moved the entire condo in that time. They were rougher than I liked with some of our things - a few dings and mishandlings occurred, scratches to hardwood floors, etc. At the end of 2 hours, they said they were finished and off they went. Our storage unit did not get done. After they left, we spent an hour looking for the dolly we had rented and said they could use. We found it out on the sidewalk outside the building. No reason for it to be there - it was a 100% inside move. If we had a $10 refund for every time Mark texted the word "sorry" - for the misplaced dolly, for the cancellation/transportation issue, for his mistake in scheduling the wrong number of guys/hours, we would've only owed about $40. As it was, he called the next day to collect payment, didn't ask how things went or make any reference to the situation. Just "I need your credit card number." I give them two stars only because the guys worked hard. Given all the positive reviews here and on other sites, we were very disappointed. read more

I hired Get Up & Go to provide 2 "moving helpers" via MovingHelp.com, a U-Haul affiliate. The basic deal was that they would supply two guys to help move stuff in to my new apartment for 2 hours, at a fixed and fairly reasonable price. The movers showed up almost on time, and were certainly strong enough to do the work. They did a decent job, but were sometimes hard to communicate with, as they were hearing impaired. They also had to leave just a bit early for another job, which was a bit distressing. In any event, Get Up & Go provided an okay service at an okay price. Could've been better or worse. read more

They asked me where I wanted our stuff placed and had everything in the house in less than 90 minutes. No damaged walls. No damaged household items equals a good move in our book. There was a slight bit of confusion over the the payment because I paid online and failed to get a payment code to provide them, however this was an oversight on my part not theirs. I had to find movers at almost literally the 11th hour, and they were able to fit me into their schedule, were communicative ahead of time, and showed up promptly at the agreed upon time. The two guys who moved my stuff had clearly been doing this for a while - you could tell they were professionals and not just a couple of guys looking to make some extra money. They packed two U-boxes for me and I couldn't get over how efficiently they were packed. I thought I was going to need a third U-box, and they actually fit everything into 1.5 - I had plenty of space left over! They were careful, quick, efficient, and expertly packed up everything. Not a single piece was so much as nicked when I got it all unpacked on the other end. Can't say enough about them, and they will absolutely be my first choice if I need movers in the DC area again. read more

This extremely positive review is way over due. I called Get Up and Go Movers the same day I needed help moving. A gentleman answered the phone and was able to answer my questions. I had not heard from the movers until they were very close to my new house. I made multiple phone calls to inquire what was going on. I was relieved to hear from the phone gentleman letting me know that the movers were out front. Darko and Corey introduced themselves and immediately went to the truck waiting for me to point directions of where everything was going in the house. It took me and my boyfriend over 6 hours to fill our moving truck. Darko and Corey managed to not only empty the truck but also move furniture around the house in less than 90 minutes! They had a contagious fun energy that spread to us as well as the Verizon crew installing the internet. Communication was easy with the guys at the house and there was never any kind of misunderstanding. These guys were able to deal with my chaotic thoughts and help us arrange the house. They even made good suggestions as to where furniture should go. I was very impressed with the company. When the job was over I called the company number again and the same gentleman I had been speaking with was able to take a credit card payment over the phone. As I said the guys completed their job in less than 90 minutes. There was a minimum of a 2 hour job and I was happy to pay for the extra 30 minutes. They were a phenomenal. Two thumbs up!
