I swear those Banh Mi signs on streets make me hit the breaks. They are dangerous! Dangerous for…read morethe lover of Banh mi. I haven't noticed this takeaway store before, so lucky they had a sign. It is tucked back in a row of other businesses closest to the Unley Road side of Belair Road. It's always good when you arrive to see a little line up of customers waiting for your meals. Then at least you know people come here regularly. This restaurant serves banh mi, cold rolls and pho. This is a small store, nothing special. A couple of tables and chairs available, but it is more set up to deal with the lunch rush. I ordered the BBQ Pork Banh mi. The rolls are fresh and the pork has a great flavour and good amount of crackling. My only confusion was that I was not given the option of fresh chilli. they gave me dried chilli? This wasn't so good. But, ok... I guess that is their thing. Also, their sauce tastes different. Most Banh mi sauce is a mixture of soy and fish sauce. This one was more sweet. Maybe it had hoisin in it? Not that that was a bad thing, it was just a different flavour. The only other thing would be that I might have liked a bit more filling, but at $5.50 I can't complain too much. Great option for lunch on the run!

This place has some seriously tasty food. This restaurant really focuses its menu and only does…read morethings that its good at. The selections of wine were brilliant, the staff were friendly although there was slight problems with communication as the waitresses english was not great. We had the vietnamese spring rolls, chi special fried rice, pad thai, crispy choo chi barramundi extra spicy, roast duck in tamarind sauce and fried ice-cream for dessert. The main courses were amazing, constantly surprising us. The spring rolls were made in-house and probably the best spring rolls I've had in Adelaide. The crispy barramundi was also extremely good, the coconut was not overwhelming but the creamy texture was still maintained in the sauce. The stand out dish though was definitely the roast duck in tamarind sauce. When my father choose this item (we have a system where everyone chooses a dish and we share), I have to tell you I was skeptical. All the previous dishes with tamarind that I have tried is generally in indian food - where it is in the form of a chutney or mixed with spices where its taste is lost. The sweetness of the tamarind remains but is not overpowering and is accompanied with citrus flavours and star of anise. The dessert, fried rice and pad thai were nice but a little overpriced. Although the food at this restaurant was excellent, it is slightly overpriced for some of the meals. I can't wait to go back! I think I'll try some of their specials next time.

I was quite pleased when this place opened up, I don't know of any other Vietnamese places near by…read more Housed in what was formerly a fish and chippery the owners of Pho Nam have done a good job in converting the building to a restaurant. The exterior is vivid green in colour and the interior is welcoming, stylish and pleasant. I ordered the Beef Pho, which I usually do when eating vietnamese, which, at $10, was a real steal. Whilst, perhaps not as good as other Pho's in town it was pleasant enough and arrived with all the trimmings one would expect with a Pho. The remainder of the menu was quite limited, about 6 entrees which were very reasonably priced, and about five other mains, which, whilst more expensive than the Pho were a bit more on the fancy side, but still quite cheap, between 15 and 25 dollars. Pho Nam also offers a degustation menu at $40 a head for those who want to step it up a little. The degustation features European style dishes, which seems a little out of place in a Vietnamese restaurant, but apparently they are the specialties of the chef. Bookings for the degustation require notice 48 hours in advance.

Referring to one of the previous reviewers: The signage has…read morebecome even worse recently; the illuminated sign outside the restaurant is gone now. So if you don't know where to look, it's VERY hard to find the place! But perhaps that is intended: Even though the staff was extremely friendly, helpful and nice throughout the evening, the actual owner of this place makes quite clear that he is not keen on having customers in his place... odd, that! Last time I was in there, we were celebrating the 60th birthday of one of the owner's casual staff members. Quite an occasion, one might think... But not only were we charged a ridiculous price of AU$ 25 each for one starter and one main course (without drinks!!!) - at 8.00 / 8.15pm the owner started to remind us to leave since he wanted to close on time at 8.30pm. That's not exactly what I call "customer-friendly" or "good management". Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not quite make up for this rude behaviour... it was OK, but not exactly "extraordinary". We've specifically ordered our food "authentic" and "hot" - and what we got was Vietnamese average taste, medium spiced. Very disappointing! To cut a long story short: After having been to this place twice now (July 1012 and October 2013), I have to say that there are plenty of nicer places and better food around town. Why bother driving all the way to Kensington Park...?!
