Soft shell crab cold roll. Very delicious! #mealforameal

Fun and funky.......that was the vibe and not just the company I was with! I really love the decor here, in particular the absence of the usually ubiquitous bright lighting found in most Asian eateries. Large and interesting wall graphics, chunky wooden tables, table numbers nestled in rickshaws, easy to read and well designed menu on the wall and cosy lighting. I may have mentioned the lighting already.....but it's sooooooo much more relaxing not squinting into fluoros.... I really enjoyed the cold rolls. A selection of 3; soft shell crab, pork and tofu. Big selection of dipping sauces. The peanut one was delicious. The noodle bowl looked great and was well priced. Fresh, light but substantial enough to be filling. My first experience of lotus chips and they were delicious. A very tasty coating. It was mentioned that they could have been a little bit crisper, but I don't have anything to compare that with. So for a first experience, I was impressed! Plus the rest of our group liked them too. Friendly and attentive staff and quick service. One little word of warning: there is a toilet outside, up steps but quick to get to, and it's a bit dodgy. Could be cleaner! So if you don't really need to go, perhaps don't go! But do go to the restaurant - well worth a visit. Also, they don't have a liquor licence, but it sounds like they might be getting one since they said they don't have one 'yet'. That would just round off the evening nicely, to sip a glass of wine whilst enjoying the surroundings. A great addition to the thriving West End!

We tried Sit Lo because of the great reviews, and we LOVE Pho. It's a busy little restaurant in a laneway, decorated well, nice staff, good ambiance. The spring rolls were light and tasty, however I was disappointed with the Pho

    Nice interior!!

What really drew me to Sit Lo was the mouthwatering the pictures posted by other reviews on Yelp. They came up on my feed and I thought, "Man, I need Bao!" They are an Asian Style Taco if you did not know. In fact, the first opportunity I had to get into the city involved a quick stop at Sit Lo. The menu at Sit Lo has a lot to offer. I see that they do not use MSG, which I love. I have reactions to MSG, so that is great to know. Very talented chefs know how to use the right ingredients to get flavour without having to use it. So well done Sit Lo. This is not a big restaurant. More of a quick stop lunch destination. There is one long shared table in the middle and some side tables for two. I ordered the soft shell crab bao and a serving of lotus root chips. The Bao came out of the kitchen very fast. The steamed bun was really light, sweet and fresh. The crab, mayo and cabbage was a great comfortable mix of flavours. The batter was seasoned well and the crab was cooked nice and crispy. Overall, a very satisfying lunch. I could have gobbled down four! They would be amazing paired with a lager. The lotus root chips however arrived a little overcooked. What a shame I thought. They were super busy, so these things happen. After speaking to a very friendly and understanding waitress, they redeemed the problem and offered me a new lot. What amazing service! The new lot was cooked well, crunchy and spiced. Very nice. Thanks for looking after me Sit Lo, I will return and bring others!

Lovely lunch spot. I love how the Bank St, Leigh St and Peel St area is flourishing and this new place is great. I haven't tried the Pho yet but everyone else was eating it in the cafe. I found the Chicken Noodle salad really delicious. Great place to get away from work for an hour and soak up the ambiance.

Venue and Banh mi review only: Many, many positive thoughts were coming into my head walking back from lunch at Sitlo today. I'm trying desperately to discern between the positivity inherent in a good mood and a genuinely good experience. My conclusion is the latter (given I had a few cheeky midweek beverages last night and amild headache this morning), and for good reason. My experience at Sit lo was like some food Utopia. I was happy. Everyone around me seemed happy. I could just sit there, and be happy and be happy that everyone else seemed happy. The staff were very friendly and prompt. The price for the food is reasonable, especially for what I saw come out and also enjoyed myself...The pork rolls and pho looked delicious! I had my standard fare: 1 pork and 1 chicken banh mi. When the woman serving me said 'oh, you'd like to eat them both here?' I had a little chuckle to myself - She thought I was sharing them with someone else! Roast pork: Hands down the best quality pork meat I've had in a banh mi that's been made by someone else (I like to make my own occasionally). First bite to last was ultimate crunch city, with juicy meaty flavour to boot. Not a single disappointing bite. And the huge bonus was they cut my rolls in half and served them in these really kitchy cool little cardboard baskets! Chicken: I opted for the bread crumbed fried (?) chicken. Some zesty mayo came through, but in a great proportion to the rest of the chilli/veg/meat. Really tasty chicken and, again, really well presented. These were also hands down the best 'balanced' banh mis I've had as well. A perfect ratio of meat, cucumber, coriander, carrots and chilli. The chairs along the wall are repurposed old drums - solid recycling effort. The tables each had a bottle of hoisin and a bottle of Sriracha sauce. This in itself, to me, was worth the extra few cents on my banh mis compared to other places. I'll be back and bringing friends next time. Really want to try the other menu items! KaChing!

    Cute decor

I was walking aimlessly around trying to decide what to have for lunch, then I stumbled across Sit Lo! I ordered the grilled chicken noodle salad, my god it's tasty! Semi chargrilled the chicken with fresh mixed lettuce leafs, noodles, chili, coriander and carrots topped with the traditional Vietnamese fish sauce! The place is cutely decorated with different sized wheels on the walls, cute little tuktuk bicycles on the tables and warm glowing lights hanging from the ceiling. It is hidden and small if you're not wondering around with your eyes, there's also no street signs or anything hanging from the roof. Service was super fast, friendly and cheap! I would go back there and order something else off the menu :D

Mixed buns --- Pork belly bun is to die for lol... followed by the crispy chicken bun ... soft shell crab is good too
    Wing ..

Finally I got to try the famous Sit Lo. We ordered the 3 mixed baos (soft shell crab, chicken and slow cooked pork belly) --- I ate the chicken bao and oh it was crispy and delicious. Next is the Soft shell crab and it's yummy too. But I think the best is the pork belly! It's so soft... it almost melts in your mouth! The taste just blends so well with the bun. It's the taste of 'siopao' that I miss from my country. The only con is I find the serving small. 5 aud for a small bao. However if you'll get the 3 mixed baos then you pay 13 aud instead of 15. But I still wont mind coming back for 3 pork belly buns haha. Next we ordered the 6 aud small beef pho (the large is 10 aud). The soup has its minty aromatic taste and smell that I love. For me small serving is enough and Im glad they have it. It's just so hard to pay like 13 aud big bowl of noodle that I couldnt finish by myself. We were so impressed with the 2 meals that we ordered 3 mixed cold rolls (10 aud). I chose the spicy mayo dip. However, this one is a bit of dissapointment. I think they're tasteless. It's mostly cold noodles and wrapping. I have to really dip it to the sauce to make it flavorful. I couldn't really taste the difference of the 3 cold roll flavours. I have tried tastier cold rolls in the past (like the one in adelaide train station) We wanted to try the pepper wings but we were so full already. Overall, I had a great experience at Sit Lo. I highly recommend their baos especially the pork belly. I cant wait to try the chicken wings next time.

Funky little hole in the wall eatery. Enjoyed the 3 mixed steamed bun for $13 prepared with lovely fresh ingredients. I also brought the salt and pepper wings BOOM what a flavour explosion.. Delicious and priced well

After moving to a new job earlier this year I moved away from the fantastic Bahn Mi (http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/banh-mi-vietnamese-rolls-adelaide-2) and have been looking for a replacement on the West Side. After conveniently forgetting my lunch I headed down to Sit Lo to give it a crack, and I'm in love. The place is very cool and cosy, bordering on cramped in the lunch rush, but you expect it to be. The menu is clear and simple making deciding easy and that keeps the line moving. Having said that though, most people went straight up and ordered knowing exactly what they wanted. Being a vego and having been spoiled by the quality of the vego bahn mi from the place linked above I was very keen to try their tofu and mushroom roll. It was awesome and came out so quickly! I was also told to get the popcorn tofu. Rather than just being a side it will now form the core of all future meals there. Simple food made well is so fantastic. My only gripe is that the popcorn tofu took longer than expected, particularly when you compare it to the time taken for the bahn mi, so clearly i am splitting hairs. Definitely going back.

cold roll - crab its a bit small but taste good! worth try!

Have already gone there for twice in 1 week. I had cold rolls, bahn mi ( not sure about the spelling though), and steamed bao. I would recommend bahn mi. I ordered the tofu one, it's fried vege with tofu inside a bread. 6 dollars for a very big one - big enough for 2 girls to share as lunch. Good place to come. Will still go there next time!

They served lovely Bao in this place! Piping hot steamed bun with a crispy chicken filling and chilli Mayo! The braised pork was so soft! It literally melts in your mouth. The sweet bean sauce goes really well with the meat too. What a great way to end this lovely trip to Adelaide!

Bahn Mi and Vietnamese Iced coffee. What a perfect lunch.

Bahn Mi, Bao and Pho have exploded on the Adelaide food scene, but Sit Lo serve up these classic Vietnamese street foods with a difference. The passion of the owners and staff is clear. Deliciously grilled chicken stuffs their generous Bahn Mi. The pate is perfect and the veggies always super fresh. Great for a lunch on the run, or a small group catch up over quality food.

A new kid on the block, as I was feeling low with a cold, I was looking forward to a hot pho to warm me up even though it was a bright sunny day for this winter day. When I see that pho is served in a takeaway tub, I changed my mind n ordered a bao and a bahn mi instead. All food are served in disposal containers, seems to be a trend these days but if I choose to sit down, I would like a plate or a proper bowl. Why do they bother to ask if I was to sit in or take away, I suppose it will either be served up or packaged it in a bag. A long communal table in the middle separates the walk way to the counter n the 4 x 2 tables by the side, suppose there will be outside dinning once the weather fines up? Bao are not normally served up in traditional Vietnamese lunch places but if the demand is there, why not indeed. I tried the soft shell crab bao n there was a nice crunch to the crispy crab n the dill mayo is not that distinctive for me, perhaps due to my state of health that I couldn't really taste the dill? I would have like more filling to my pork bahn mi as it is dearer than a few other places in the city which serve up a very decent bahn mi for less. Staff are friendly enough n attentive, customers today are not in ties n suit but mostly workers during lunch break? It is well located in the hip precinct of bank street / hindley streets, it will do well.

The turnover is high yes, but the wait is not long and the quality of food/service doesn't suffer for it. A pretty standard fare for a vietnamese banh mi joint, i always go for either roast pork or lemongrass chicken but they also have honey chicken or tofu. When i first started going here i baulked at their interpretation of 'extra hot chilli', but it seems they've upped their game and you can now get a decent heat kick if you so desire (and i do always desire it hot hot hot!) Banh mi and service review only:…read more A combination of factors has set me in a slightly off mood today (Mondayitis!), so I'm trying to be generous. Little Hanoi (LH) and I have a past. A few months ago it was recommended as a great place to go for a cheeky banh mi, no fuss but worth a look. So I did. And the first one was actually pretty good from memory. But the 2nd, 3rd and now 4th time I've given LH a go I've been a bit disappointed. I actually walked right past LH on my way to Bread Temptations in Topham Mall because I'd heard good things, but, contrary to the advice on Yelp (!) Bread Temptations do not accept credit cards :-/ So I wandered back...also back past Soonta...which I think will be my next Banh Mi port of call. LH is OK, but what you get for the price charged, there are better Banh Mi being made in the CBD. Service: Is usually OK. Not that it takes forever to whip up a Banh Mi, so it's fairly quick. Banh mi: There are plenty of other options at LH besides banh mi, so maybe if you were to give LH a go, perhaps get a pho or something else. The banh mis are average at best. The rolls were soft. Not that this is always a bad thing, but I do prefer a nice crumbly, crunchy roll. Seems to carry the rest of the textures well. The meat was cold (again, not always a bad thing but I much prefer a bit of warmth) and there wasn't much packed in there at all. Slightly crunchy pork, but more fatty than crunchy, and the chicken was just...meh. Salad portion was all carrot, virtually no cucumber. The use of the sriracha sauce is one of the only redeeming factors. This roll is on par with the Daily Choice roll I had last week. But a dollar more. I, therefore, must continue my trek to find my new regular banh mi joint in the CBD. Update to come if I go back and get the pho!

I should preface this review by saying that it's based on both their rolls and salads. If I was…read morejust reviewing their salads it may be higher. I first went here when searching for an alternative to Bahn Mi. I got a roll and was underwhelmed. The roll itself was dry and the pork was quite fatty, the carrot and cucumber were somewhat scarce. The use of Sriracha sauce instead of fresh chilli was also a disappointment. I gave them the benefit of the doubt hoping that things would improve, to no avail. After not going here for a while I walked by a couple of months ago and was pleasantly surprised to see the quality of pork had improved. I gave them another go and got a salad this time. What an improvement. The lettuce, cucumber and carrot were so fresh, the pork was great and the addition of coriander and crushed peanuts were great. This standard is now consistently maintained. I am now a regular visitor and recommend their salads to my colleagues who are also impressed.
