I never had one dish there that I wouldn't happily jump at the chance to have all over again. The place was almost empty when we arrived but we were almost turned away because they were fully booked. Who would have thought! However, they managed to squeeze us in and we were grateful because the experience was memorable. The dining area is quite small with only 12 or so tables, but by the time we had eaten and were about to leave the places was full. The waitresses are nice and it is all table service which is great. The menu is expansive and I would definitely recommending trying their range of satay products which are dripping in the best satay sauce I have had in a long time. The meal sizes are reasonable and although my boyfriend was still hungry afterwards (such a boy), I was ready to burst my dress. There is also a takeout option available and we saw quite a number of people duck in and grab their takeout phone orders. The prices are also very reasonable, for a two person meal with entrée and two drinks it came to just over $50 which is less than we expected. Thumbs up!

We waited a reasonable time for our food. The satay chicken sticks (starter) we ordered was our favourite, as well as as the cashew chicken. Desserts were impressive too, the banana split and the sticky rice pudding, both with their delicious homemade coconut ice cream. Will definitely be com here again and highly recommend them.

The restaurant is situated in a small group of shops and be aware of the car parking space in the front with half hour limits between 9am and 9pm. Dinner time on a mid weeknight and the restaurant is more than half full, we were shown to our table which is nicely spaced from the others. In the larger dining room, there are a couple large round tables in the corner which cater for big groups. The smaller dining area as you enter accommodated 2s and 4s, well spaced as well. Deco is clean and fresh with couple of big paintings on the walls. I liked the screen of sticks which separated the entry and dining room with decorative pots at one end. Food - as there are only the two of us which really limits the choices for sharing, nevertheless, we had one entree and 2 mains to share and that was plenty. The servings were generous especially the fish dish which we ordered. Our entree of duck salad was fresh and flavoursome, the sweet, sour and heat were all there, perhaps the chillies could have been cut back but I think it was good as an entree to get the senses going and to expect what's to follow! The signature dish of grilled chicken with green papaya and carrot salad live up to expectation. The chicken was moist and the salad was well balanced. The first mouthful of a bit of chicken, salad and accompanied by warm sticky rice was just sensational. Just wished the sticky rice can stay warm till the end of our last mouthful of the dish. The steam salmon in savoury custard was a bit too runny for my liking and the custard had separated with over cooked 'egg', but it tasted great, in fact, I was glad of the 'sauce' in the end to douse my rice like a good curry does. We left without sampling desserts which were mainly ice cream and sticky rice. The rainbow ice cream bar of strawberry, coconut, pandan and orange sounds a great combination, looks like I'll be back one day. I'll try the curries then as well.

The flavour is sensational and you get plenty of top notch meat and veg. Their red curry is my favourite obviously, but I've tried them all and loved them all. Walking into this place, you wouldn't think you were about to indulge in Thai food. Retro wallpaper and furnishings take you by surprise but they definitely don't disappoint. If you haven't been, get down there ASAP. And get the red curry for goodness sake!

However, American Thai is designed for the American palate and therefore not subtle. Kin Kin was delectable food presented artfully and no nonsense. The pork belly dish was particularly delectable. The pad thai, though a pretty standard dish in comparison to the vast variety of other Thai dishes, is simply awesome. The masaman curry is also a recommended curry option as, in my opinion, it blows the green curry out of the water. Overall their food is pretty much all greatly satisfying, and there aren't any menu items I wouldn't give a shot. A great but underrated little place!

I add the caveat for this review because, while I normally class myself in the "menu adventurer" class - I mean I'm practically the Marco Polo of food, I will try ANY new food once and without hesitation - there is something about Danny's salt and pepper squid that gives me complete menu tunnel vision. It's SO good, I order it, almost without thinking, every single time I eat there. Before I know it, the menu has been whisked away, I have a beer in front of me, and I realise my mouth has somehow ordered the same thing, yet again, of its own accord. Have I become an old person? Why do I do this? Let me explain. Salt and pepper squid is one of those culinary dishes claimed by multiple cuisines: equally at home on a pub menu as a Chinese banquet. EVERYONE thinks they can do it - but few actually can with any élan. I've had bland squid, tough squid, chewy squid, spicy squid, big squid, small squid, red squid, blue squid... you get the idea. But when it is done right - and as you may have guessed, Danny's do it right - it is one of the most enticing, tastebud pleasing dishes on the planet. Many try, Danny's succeeds. For this reason alone I give an enthusiastic 4 star/ yay! I'm a fan rating. There is actually a lot to recommend on the menu in addition to the squid (I always go in a group and have several dishes to share), in particular the chef's specials, which regularly includes a spicy crocodile dish that is amazeballs. If I had to knock off that one star, it's that the serving sizes are certainly not huge. And this is coming from a petite chick: big guys would have no chance of being full on one main/ entree. My advice: order several starters and dishes to share, it's more economical and you're more likely to get your fill. Opening hours are "till late" every day, which is generally around 10 - 10:30pm depending on how busy it is. I may have mentioned this already, but the salt and pepper squid is pretty good.
