A friend and I went here Friday night. The parking was plentiful and the atmosphere was nice. The food was pretty good also. My only issue was with the service. The server had a great attitude but was in no way, shape or form attentive. Every time I wanted something I had to wait quite a while before she came again. It was very irritating. Knowing a good deal when they see it, Baltimoreons flocked to Getrude's on a Tuesday night for $12 entrees and $20 wine specials. An extra $5 buys you soup or a salad with the special. At 7:00 p.m., there was nary a table to be had or a free space at the bar. The place had a good buzz - a pretty crowd of locals who could pay more, but like a good deal. The chef was one hand to see that everything ran smoothly. The food - perflectly good. Ceaaar salad, fried catfish, mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. The meal was almost flawless, the service was amazing. The restaurant was packed Saturday night of "Restaurant Week". The menu that they prepared for it was pretty awesome. Gertrudes is really lovely! I know that people have said so in the reviews, but somehow I was surprised by just how nice it was. We had the chicken and pork entrees, along with the chicken and corn fritter appetizer. All were very good and not overpriced (I get sticker shock from places like Milton Inn that charge 30+ for a somewhat ordinary chicken entree). There was a private event on the patio so we couldn't sit outside. I look forward to going back so we can sit outside next time. We will definitely be back. read more

You're going to want to try everything on the menu, but I recommend trying anything worth crab and seafood. They're all fresh and well cooked, and the presentation is lovely. I've eaten here before and it was wonderful. However last night something was very off. The appetizer of braised brussel sprouts was overpowered by an overly thick application of Dijon mustard. The chicken breast's cauliflower accompaniment was also equally over-saturated, this time with something like Worcestershire sauce (hard to know because it could hardly be touched). Was offered corn bread but then the couple who arrived after us at the bar was given the last serving of that instead, and the waiter threw down cold dinner rolls for us. Such a gesture was understandable from a waiter who was barely amicable, generally absent, and who seemed desirous of being anywhere else but our table. Our concerns were confirmed when a very large table of folks left without ordering mumbling something about Sunday night being an off night. I love this restaurant and I will be back, because the regular chef is excellent, but never again on Sunday nights. read more

The restaurant is connected to the art museum and it is such a pretty and relaxing environment. I highly recommend it for Sunday brunch. For 4 people to get a meal, it only costed us $80! I was taken here by friends for a birthday celebration. We had a very nice experience. It's an attractive and clean facility with very helpful and cordial staff. Everyone was pleased with their food. This place is fantastic. I have been for brunch and dinner several times and every time the food was superb. The decor inside is lovely but I have to recommend eating outside on the patio if you can as it overlooks the BMA's sculpture garden and on warm evenings they have live music (think classical guitar soloist not cheesy cover band). Great for special occasions or just because you want delicious waffles! It can fill up quick because it's a popular spot so I recommend making a reservation on OpenTable. read more

Had a very nice experience here. The museum is undergoing construction though it barely disrupts your dining experience. Everything about the evening was easy; reservations, seating, service, food quality, drinks and dessert. This was perfect for me and my mom who was in town visiting. We had the crab cake and the rockfish. Both were delicious. And our cocktails where really great too. Dessert was worth the extra calories. And Pena our server was very accommodating. The setting is lovely. To enter, you walk through a lovely sculpture garden. We went there for a graduation meal with the family. The service was a bit rushed, but the food was really good. This is a restaurant with some class since it is in the BMA, it has nice atmosphere, however on weekends it is so busy that they have no time to prepare food properly. I ordered a fish with roasted potatoes. Fish was good but ROASTED potatoes were soggy and hardly warm. They must have been sitting in the kitchen for a long time before they were served. Ambiance: The restaurant is located in the Baltimore Museum of Art. There are indoor seating inside of the museum and outdoor seating in the sculpture garden area. We sat outside overlooking the water fountain and the sculptures in the garden. It was lovely :) Food: It was brunch time, so we started off with blood orange mimosas and coffee. They also give you a bread basket with corn bread & jam and we ate a lot of it before our entrees came out. Today's special crab cake dish (around $20) came with 2 sides and we chose home fries and two eggs. We also ordered peach & blueberry pancakes off the special menu. Everyone I spoke to raved about this place; how fantastic the crab cakes are. Well, I'm not a fan of crab but these were pretty good. The cakes were 99% lump crab with exactly the right amount of seasonings. The two sides I had were spinach & cold slaw. The spinach was perfect with a hint of garlic and the cold slaw was made with green & red cabbage along with apple and fennel. If you are into desert, then try the chocolate decadence. ...so good. The freshly made "ginger" soda was surprisingly refreshing. The atmosphere is typical and a bit too loud but tolerable. The restaurant is inside the main entrance into the Art Museum, so it's a bit confusing if you're just going for dinner. There is a "paid" parking lot but there is street parking if you dare. read more

My husband and I went yesterday for a birthday celebration right at 11:30am. Good thing we did, because by 12pm - there was only 2 tables left in the whole place. I was expecting a bit more, like the waitress to talk about the "specials" (the other waiters did) but instead, she just handed us the papers and left. We ordered a dozen raw oysters for $25. quite steep, but we love oysters and this was a special day. We split the oysters to 6 each, and found out that we only had 11 oysters. We had to find flag someone down to get us another oyster. Oh, the waiter counted, you do have 11, will bring you one more. No apology, no gosh, we owe you one....nothing. A waiter brought out a small cup with a lone oyster in it. I am just saying at the price, I feel like an apology or something should of come... My husband got the rockfish imperial, very decant....and imperial was perfect. I had the Springfield burger, it was quite wonderful, although, I couldn't eat it all. We also opted for the "Crabettes" which were really the highlight of the meal. Perfectly seasoned, served at perfect temperature, and were delicate and tasty. Of course it goes without saying, the cream of crab is the top of the heap in perfection. We didn't get sherry served tableside with cream of crab presentation, but it was yummy on it's own. All in all, a nice lunch, would of loved the waitress to be a bit more attentive, and act more like we were guests, instead of a bothering her. read more

Absolute disappointment. Read the glowing reviews and have been wanting to try Gertrude's for awhile now. Finally went for lunch, it wasn't too crowded or anything. We were sat at a table with nice view of the sculpture garden (I will say the atmosphere is pleasant), briefly greeted and given menus, but then waited nearly 10 minutes for our server to come back and take our drink order. We ended up putting in food order at same time since the service was so slow. No idea why, as we didn't see him with any other tables to serve. Food was okay, but nothing wowed us. After we finished eating, we then waited at least 15 minutes trying to get our servers attention to get the check and he consistently ignored looking our direction for me to wave him over. Finally another server came over and asked if she could get us anything and she helped us pay out. Just shocked by the poor service we received here, was expecting way better. read more

I took my fiancé to Gertrude's for a birthday brunch. This was supposed to be a special meal, and unfortunately our server made our experience less than desirable. We were greeted by a less than enthusiastic server, who asked us what drinks we would like. My fiancé likes fresh squeezed orange juice, and asked what kind of orange juice they serve. She asked politely, but this seemed to set things off on the wrong foot. Our server was very short with her and did not seem to appreciate the question, and almost took exception to being asked a question. Things went downhill from there. Our server was very cold to us after this, never smiling, and never offering me a refill of coffee. I believe she did refill our water. We were dealing with this situation just fine, and enjoying our meal anyway. For dessert, my fiancé decided to take a chance and ask if they would write "Happy Birthday" on the bread pudding so she could take a photo. Our server had a look of absolute disdain on her face over this question, she seemed extremely put out by having to even hear such a request. She said "I'll see what I can do, and stormed off." Pleasantly, the kitchen did a nice job of putting a little chocolate "Happy Birthday" on the plate. That was nice of them, and at least our server did ask them to do this rather than just dismissing the request. I got up to use the restroom, and then we left the restaurant. Later my fiancé told me that she got me a refill of coffee while I was gone only because she realized that our server was pleasantly refilling (already rather full) cups of coffee at another table, even though she refused to come over and refill mine once during our whole stay. I don't know why we were treated so coldly, and it was very disappointing. The food was okay, but not great enough to make up for the treatment we received I've never felt the need to come on Yelp and sign up to do a review before.
