Gersi changes their menu daily to include fresh, seasonal ingredients! It's always fun to see what's on the menu. I especially love their homemade pastas--the pappardelle is the best. I am not a big fan of al dente pasta, and they are always willing to cook my pasta well done per my request. It is dark and intimate inside, but their outdoor seating is my fave; they have a lovely sidewalk patio that is very NY. It is heated in the Winter and suitable for year round dining. We've had a few service hiccups on our visits (for example, last time we were there, our server spilled water all over me), but the service is always friendly and they've been apologetic for any issues. We will keep coming back for the delicious food and lovely patio. read more

There's a lot of great reviews for this restaurant, so maybe I went on a bad day (a Saturday), or luck didn't pan out, but I was not as equally impressed as my fellow reviewers. We had a situation where 8 of us were placed in a very cramped area inside but we asked them to move us outside, and they were able to find seating for us. The food wasn't that spectacular and we paid $98 for a whole lot of nothing. My friend had the lasagna and there was barely any noodles, mostly cheese. The short rib pasta was disappointing too. The rigatoni Siciliaana was a bit bland. We weren't even full after our meal. They weren't able to split the checks, so we ended up paying a lot more. I was looking forward to this restaurant because of the great reviews, but it did not exceed my expectations. The owner and his nephew were super friendly and attentive but I think it was one of those scenarios where the restaurant was too packed and we didn't get the best outcome. read more

After reading the reviews my husband and I were excited to try a new restaurant. The staff was great and it's really pretty inside. The mixed drinks were strong but lacked flavor. The pasta was just ok - not terrible but not very tasty. It was very loud in the restaurant, lots of plates clanging and it was very disruptive to the meal. Happened several times and always sounded like someone dropping plates. Some of the outside tables are on the curb next to the street. I would try it again and choose soother than pasta. read more

Had my birthday dinner here and the in house made pasta was chef's kiss. I had the rigatoni Alfredo with shrimp and wish only that i had more of it. It was a hug in a bowl. Here are pics of what my fam and friends had too! The rose garnish on the rose margarita i had was a bit much. I couldn't drink it all without the dried petals getting in the way. Decently made nonetheless. read more

On 1/14/23 had one of the best Italian dinners that I've ever had in RVA. The food is top notch and the service also was top notch. Definite game changer for RVA and for my future destination picks. Already recommending them to friends. The meal was fantastic, enjoyed the chicken parmesan, an elevated version served with lemon spaghetti. I didn't realize how perfect the combination would be until I tried it. They make some of their own bread, and they do it well. Husband had the Bronzino, cooked to perfection. The server made excellent recommendations, if you're on the fence about what to eat just ask the server. The chefs appear to know how to turn out a great dinner. We happened to get there early as we didn't have reservations and they were great about accommodating and making us feel welcome. On an aside as we got there so early, we were impressed to overhear the owner/manager going over the game plan for a night. She had everything down and made sure everyone knew what to do in contingencies. It helped me see why the staff was so fantastic, they're actually being trained and given direction on how to turn out a great dinner service. Like I said game changer in RVA, one that I definitely like to promote. read more

Went here on a Friday night with reservations. It was early September and they have space inside as well as a few tables on the sidewalk to sit. Service was fast and menu was expansive. I will say though that the experience felt more like a whole production than a pleasant evening out. They have notes on the tables to be out within 90 min due to covid but it comes across rushed and translates to the time and care the waitstaff was taking for orders etc. The ambiance is a little lacking in that respect, as it is in the restaurant in general- which was playing a very odd assortment of like classic rock songs over a boisterous full restaurant- music was loud enough to take note of. We started with a pear Gorgonzola salad which was very good, and each got a pasta plate and dessert. My orichette with broccoli rabe and sausage was good, as was my partner's pasta dish. Good, but nothing special- and easy dishes to make oneself. The portions were very manageable, not outrageous one way or the other. We got dessert as well and we were happy to see cappuccino on the menu. The tiaramisu and panna cotta were good as well, and they served a chocolate sauce with the panna cotta which was an interesting, pleasant add. With other, better Italian food options I couldn't give it a higher rating by comparison- would recommend others before this place but it's a solid middle of the road place for a night out. read more

Fantastic gem of a spot we went to in May, so it's memorable as of this writing. Just loved Gersi! Clockwise is their mushroom bruschetta app that we cut in 1/2, with a poached egg add on because I ball like that. Wife's eggs Benny that she loved with an exceptionally pre-dressed arugula salad. And my baked eggs pomodoro Parmesan with their awesome house made mozzarella add on, because my mama ain't raise no fool. Loved the inspired , not run of the mill, dishes. read more

We dined at Geri's tonight and received excellent service from Meg. She was always available to serve us. I had the Mezzi Rigatoni Ragu. I was very delicious and a great portion. Delicious . On a random Tuesday night I was craving Italian, specifically Cacio e Pepe which not every Italian restaurant have (but should!) I was in luck when I saw it on Gersi's menu!!! Let me just say it was GREAT, waaaayyy better than when I try to make it at home hahah!! I also ordered the prosciutto di Parma with fruit, which included apples, it was a nice appetizer, I'm not sure how fresh the apples were though but a great addition to my meal. All in all Gersi did not disappoint, and I will be back, the rest of the menu looks phenomenal! read more

Not as great as it seemed to be. My expectations were high for Gersi as I have heard mostly good things about it but to my surprise, I wasn't really impressed. The place wasn't really that much of an intimate space as you're almost shoulder to shoulder table seating wise. It does get pretty packed in on a busy night. Drinks were decently good but for a place that has homemade pasta, the food was pretty mediocre in my opinion and some of the pasta tasted bland. The service was kinda cut throat. It was our first time there and it seemed our waitress was just too busy to put in an effort to go through some specials on the menu. For the $100 dinner price tag I expected more and there's definitely other better places to go. Probably wouldn't be back anytime soon but would be willing to try again on a less busier night. read more

We came here for my birthday, and I couldn't ask for a better experience. I love Italian food, and Gersi did not disappoint. The staff was extremely friendly, very attentive, and genuinely lovely. It truly felt like a great Italian family restaurant experience. The bread they start you off with was good, but I personally prefer a more crispy crust. I especially like the white beans with a small red pepper flakes kick and a good olive oil. We ordered the pear/Gorgonzola salad and the fig/prosciutto crostini. They were both delicious, I would prefer more Gorgonzola on the salad, but everything was fresh and delicious. For the main, we got the pasta Limone and rigatoni ragu with sausage and meatballs. The pasta was delicious, cooked perfectly, and I think those were some of the best meatballs I ever had. The Limone, my wife, got was also excellent. I highly recommend Gersi for a great family Italian dining experience with delicious food. read more

I love Italian food and I was excited to try this new restaurant for a while. Our experience here was a bit mixed. The bread and dipping oil were delicious, we loved it and kept going back for more. The cacio e pepe was not something we enjoyed. There was far too much lemon on it and the pasta was swimming in sauce. We ended up putting it to the side. We ordered a mushroom pasta special and that was much better. The panna cotta itself did not have much flavor, but we did love the melted hot chocolate poured on top. Once the chocolate was gone we stopped eating that as well. We would not order it again. read more

This restaurant has sadly gone so downhill in the last year or so. It used to be one of the best pastas to rival NYC, but something has changed in the kitchen. The salads are always overdressed, the vegetables come out bland and mushy, and even the homemade pasta is overcooked and drowns in its sauces. It makes me so sad because the vibes continue to be warm and convivial, and the cocktails and wine list are awesome. But the last three times I've eaten here recently... have been so disappointing. It'll be a while before I give it another try. read more

Incredible food and great service. Bartender could've been nicer tho. Very tight space , you'll be dining with all the patrons.

Great food! I'm not always an Italian food lover, but this was a great spot. All four of us had something different and loved our meal!

Excellent lunch on Sunday and terrific staff. Very authentic Italian feel. Outdoor seating and bar area as well. But very small restaurant so would get a resevation. read more

Food is fantastic, 10/10 on everything we ordered. The lemon pasta is a MUST. This being said, I've been to Gersi with a reservation multiple times and they clearly do not have the space in the restaurant to honor reservations. Every time, we've been seated ~25 minutes after our reservation time. During these 25 minutes, we have to stand awkwardly in the cramped restaurant or in the cold. It's frustrating, and the staff seems overwhelmed. read more

Ordered pork chop. Flavor was great but the pork chop was well-over cooked which was disappointing. On top of that, the food was not hot. Maybe it sat under the heat lamp for a while. This place is the definition of overrated. The food was okay, but the portions were extremely small for the price of the dish. Our reservation was at 4:30PM and one of the first things said to us was "There is a reservation after yours, so you only have 1.5 hours." The entire dining experience was rushed. They gave us the check and a box for my food before I was even finished eating; it was only 5:15 PM. They treated us like they could not wait to get us out of the door. I wouldn't go here if you actually want to sit down and enjoy a meal for more than 45 mins. read more

This place is great for brunch but it is lacking in the lunch and dinner department. I went with a friend recently for brunch and we decided to try both the brunch options and some of the pasta. The French toast was phenomenal! So flavorful and light. I also really liked the ricotta and strawberry toast. I got the pappardelle pasta and it tasted like Chef Boyardee. It was not good whatsoever. I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day and I'm definitely willing to try them again but that was not the best pasta I've had in Richmond. The inside is super cute and great for a date night. read more

Couldn't be happier to have this little slice of Brooklyn here in Richmond. We usually wait a few weeks before trying new restaurants to allow time to work out any kinks, but I was too excited to try Gersi and we went only days after opening. And am so glad we did! The ambience, waitstaff, drinks, food: all of it was just incredible. Love the low-lighting of the restaurant and it really felt like we were not in Richmond for an evening. The service was friendly and attentive & while I'll have to personally miss out on the various homemade pastas, the gluten-free option was still the best I've had from a restaurant. The dining room is comfortable, so I would recommend making a reservation because I can assume word will get out quickly about how good it is and tables will fill up fast. Loved everything about Gersi and looking forward to many more visits--including brunch! read more

Always delicious food with great service in an environment beaming with energy. Each time is an enjoyable experience inside or out.

Food was tasty and enjoyed the outdoor patio area. Portions are feasible for one person, rather than massive portions. The service was pushy and off putting which is why I'm not sure if I'd be back any time soon. Had multiple people coming to our table to clear our plates as we were eating last bites (at each course of food). Felt like we were being pushed out/being burden and really took away from th experience. Could hear other tables that were getting frustrated as we read more

Let me start by saying the server Sam was great and he did the best he could to save this evening. My partner and I went for our Tuesday date night and expected a memorable pasta dinner. Starter cocktails were the namesake Manhattan and old fashioned. Both underwhelming for $13 but we went with it. We started splitting the Black Salt Caesar salad ($13+)and this was nicely done. I ordered the pappardelle pasta with mushrooms ($23) and my partner had the lemon spaghetti dish ($13). We genuinely enjoy eating out and discussing flavors and inspirations. We are not cheap by any means, but still feel there is a need for appropriate value for what you get. I have noted the prices here because context and quality is key. We ordered a bottle of red ($60) for dinner to go with our pastas. Our pastas were served in a salad bowl and I was kind of shocked that they were so conservative in portion. I expected a bang of flavor since the serving was small. My partner's spaghetti was crunchy- stuck in our teeth. The pasta was dry and the lemon sauce or jus had not really connected to the pasta. And it was room temp. (Insert sad face). Mine was hot, but limited in flavor and underwhelming. We told Sam - he took it back to the kitchen- I watched them all taste it and agree- and that was that. Nothing replaced. The $13 removed from the check and that was that. Being that my partner now didn't have dinner and we couldn't understand what was happening - we asked for the check which was $130! Moral of the story- we get it, times are challenging in supply chain- in staffing- in finding employees who care about great product. We work in the business and empathize with the struggle. The big thing that is missing is the care for the experience. Pricing does not match the value of the product. It is more than crunchy pasta. It's about awareness of the space you've created for people to have a moment in their lives with your food. We are open to giving places second tries, but this won't be one of those moments. We took care of Sam and we are putting this moment behind us now. read more

We have been to Gersi two other times and our meals were outstanding. Not last night. All 6 of us agreed that each dish was awful. The red sauce was bland and tasted like canned tomato sauce with no flavor. The pork chop was so dry it was inedible. Did you get a new cook/chef? Very disappointed. It was so bad, I don't think we'll be back. read more

I ate at this restaurant a second time on a quiet weeknight. I tried other dishes in the menu and a different red wine by the bottle. Overall my views remain the same! I wasn't a fan of the Chianti bottle we bought but then again, probably related to our wine choice and less related to poor quality wine. The seasonal pasta dishes are excellent! read more

Booked last minute for one of the last spots for Valentine's Day. Had an amazing server! His name is Alonzo. Gersi was accommodating, seated us quickly and made our night super special. After looking over the menu and being indecisive, Alonzo took his time to talk us through multiple menu options. And he knows the menu thoroughly because our food was exactly what I had a taste for! As full as it was in their intimate space, Gersi kept it organized and professional through the V-Day chaos! Thank you Gersi and many, many thanks to Alonzo!! Happy Valentine's Day Gersi! read more

Honestly the worst food at high end prices. Everything tasted like salt. Had to send back the pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese because it tasted like a rotten salt lick. They replaced it with a pasta with just butter, which was better received (still a bit salty) but they still charged full price for a pasta with just salty butter. Ordered one menu item that did not list tomatoes as an ingredient, a corn and cheese ravioli with sage sauce , as I have allergic reactions to nightshades. It came covered in tomatoes. After having to explain that tomatoes are an ingredient that need to be listed, they remade the dish without tomatoes. Better, but also tasted like salt. Shrimp and pasta arrived separately because of this, and was not a nice meal experience. Could have eaten more but instead I left hungry. The drinks were fine but we spent over $200 here and left with nothing but disappointment. Avoid at all costs. read more

Food was delicious, as were the cocktails and the ambience was nice. Fork had lots of dried food on it and when we showed the waiter he just said he would get another (which he forgot to do until reminded, and made no apology for the very dirty fork). How have I missed this gem? I started with the most delightful rose margarita. The bartender suggested a crisp Montecucco Vermentino that perfectly complimented the Grilled Polenta entree. And wow. The polenta was buttery, perfectly salted with balsamic vinegar, topped with wilted fennel, prosciutto and Parmesan (or some other hard cheese). It's a non traditional choice in a place that makes their own pasta but I trusted the bartender and she did not disappoint! Plus the focaccia was spot on! read more

Our party of five had a reservation at Gersi for 7 p.m., we were not seated until about 7:30 p.m. The patrons seated at the table reserved for us were ordering items when we arrived at 7 p.m. The restaurant was very busy. I understand stuff like this happens, but it was a little irritating after 30 minutes passed and the three patrons were still at the table. However, once seated the service was great! Food + drink was delicious (per usual) but the hostess needs to be fired. I made a reservation for 7:45 for the dining room and we had to wait 40 minutes be seated at our two top. The hostess kept trying to seat us outside or at the bar instead of telling people they needed to clear their tables as another reservation was coming in. She kept apologizing and said she "didn't know where our table went." I know where my table is -- you lost it! People who were sat before us had waited ~30 minutes, and someone who ordered take out was waiting an hour for their food. Once we were seated, the server was great and kitchen was fast, but at that point we had lost our appetite. What a gem!!! This was our post-Valentine's Day dinner out....and the place was still booked. We had reservations to sit at the bar- no problem. The bartenders were attentive and the service was great. For cocktails; we ordered Gersi Manhattan and Italian Old Fashion- both really well made. Appetizers; we ordered grilled calamari (no breading) and grilled asparagus -the asparagus won my vote. Entree; we were spoiled for choice as everything looked appealing. We ordered homemade tagatelli with meat Raghu sauce... Totally yummy. All these dishes were enough to share. But wait!! There's dessert! Tiramisu and decaf coffee (with shot of Frangellica) was the perfect end to our meal!
