I received a scratch off deck to Illinois for Christmas because I obviously love an adventure and trying new places. We chose a Rockford card and it was for a Pizza hop that no longer exists but instead it suggests checking out Gerry's. So that's what brought us here. As for the pizza.... It's just meh, not bad but not great either. I wish we would've ordered the extra thin crust bc I'm not here for the crust and love a good tavern style za! It arrived hot and was good but like I said not outstanding. While we waited for the pizza we had eggplant sticks with a side of marinara. These are ick! We had them at summerfest and was in hopes of something similar. These were not it! Beer was bottled or draft and they have a limited selection. No IPA. Clean establishment and friendly staff. Pizza is very good. Special salad is really good Beef and sausage combo sandwich is a winner. About the only Iran that not so great is the wedding soup. Wait staff can be a little inconsistent but they get your food to you and it's hot. Original decor with plastic table cloths makes it a family friendly place. While the pizza was fine, they sneakily add a 3.7% service charge on to our bill if you pay on a credit card. Horrific first time experience. They got the order wrong over the phone, no big deal. I was willing to drive the 25 minutes to exchange. But the manager insisted because they write the orders this is what was written and we got what we paid for. I explained I was from Roscoe which was a 25 minute drive ONE way. The manager proceeded to hang up the phone on me. I called 2 more times where I got hung up on the and the manager told me "don't even come back if you want your food to not be touched right". Basically threatening to contaminate my food. I called one last time where the receptionist (young girl) told me that it's okay for her to say that because she's the manager.. and she hung up. I drove the 25 min to drop the food off and get my refund. The owners happened to be there where at first they told me they know who it was.. and that they "tried to make it right". Hanging up the phone and threatening to contaminate my food is not my definition of making things right. He proceeded to give me my money and try his best to defend his employee who was obviously a family member. It's absolutely disgusting that any of this behavior could even be defended. It's obvious he didn't want to make a scene, but it's very upsetting when most of the time till the very end the managers the owners tried to make the customer the problem when they put in the wrong order and was a very simple fix. Solid Itailan dishes from mostaccholi, Italian beef, and the pizza.The pizza blew me away. The spicy Italian Beef pizza has Hot Giardiniera all over it and it was my favorite until I ordered the Meatza with the giardiniera. That was one of the very best pizzas I have ever had. Have been going to Gerry's Pizza for 18 years. This is not the same service of years gone by. Went with large family group as we usually have done. Orders did not come out perfectly but didn't take issue with that. Our waitress was good but the problem came when daughter of the owner could only answer questions with the word 'yep' to questions raised about charges. Our father paid his bill and questioned her attitude toward a paying customer and her answer to comment about losing a customer was 'yep' again. . Might be the best pizza in Rockford. I was working in Byron here over the last few weeks and have had a chance with a pal to dine out often. Was here recently, place was mobbed but on a weekend. Service was slow but expected cause it was busy and a kids sports team was having a team meal. (Like a group of 40-50 kids and parents) but that was in a separate room, the main dining room was very busy and we had the bbq chicken pizza. We ordered pizza and pasta from here tonight for the first time. We drove 20 min to pick it up, when we got it home and opened the boxes the one pizza was not what we ordered. We called and spoke to a man who said he can make it again, he then put a manager on the phone who clearly has never been told the customer is always right and told us that they aren't in the wrong and we messed up, she also told us that if we wanted they can make the food again but she can't promise they won't spit in it!!!! She then hung up on us, we called back and talked to a young girl who wouldn't give us the managers name and told us that since she is the manger she has the right to hang up on us. I was in Rockford for work, and by the time I got done with work, all the places I was looking forward to eating were closed. So I opened up Yelp to see what restaurants were open late. Gerry's came up, and had great reviews. Gerry's it is! I already like them for being open until ~1am every night. I got a large pizza and a pasta dish. Every time I try a new local place, I always ask the workers what their favorite dish is, and if there's a consensus or a rave review, try that. In this case it was the Chicken & Broccoli Olio. The pizza was great. Fresh ingredients, well seasoned sausage, not overdone cheese. Probably the best Chicago style thin crust I've had in Rockford, tied with Macianos (and maybe Capri). The Olio was literally chicken, broccoli, and spaghetti in an oil/butter sauce. It was good, and you could taste the fresh ingredients, especially the garlic, but I needed more flavor from the sauce.
