I was craving roti and found Gerry's when I was googling. Came inside the restaurant and it was only myself and my partner and one staff. My partner ordered first, and the staff went to the back to get it prepped. 10 minutes later he came back out with the food, and I ordered my portion and he looked annoyed. My partner said this is when you know the food is going to be good - and it was! The goat curry roti was soooo flavourful. It consisted mostly of meat. The meat was tender and juicy. There were only 3 potatoes in there, which is great because some places tend to load up on potatoes and give you barely any meat. I'd say it was one of the best curry goat roti I've had in a long time read more

Simple no-frills counter-service Jamaican cuisine. I had curry goat with rice and steamed veg. Small size was an ample lunch portion. To me, it was good enough but certainly not incredible as others here have mentioned. I feel like I've had a tastier curry goat experience elsewhere in the city. read more

Had the delicious goat curry. 5 stars for great value and great taste. The guy at the cashier was also very friendly. This is mostly a take-out spot, and seats are limited if dining in. You do not come here for the decor. Food is served in Styrofoam containers. Very tasty food. Jerk chicken, jerk pork, oxtail, roti, and if you were lucky, stew pork . I haven't been to Gerry's for a few years now but it still remains my fav. place for roti in T.O. I always recommend it because of their most tasty goat as well as chicken roti. Nice fresh dough as well for the wraps. Good times. Gotta make a trip there over the holidays. read more

Went to this restuarant on Jun 8th and was pleasantly surprised how good the food was. The jerk pork has me. Had not eaten pork in more than a year before then. And then I tried the Cassava pudding. Damn I end up with a whole one going home. It's my new place now. read more

I was offended when I was asked to "move away from the door" upon my first entry into this hole. (BTW, it's an outward swinging door and in no way was I impeding other patrons' entry). I ordered a beef roti and a beef patty. As I munched on my bitter beef patty which had an "off" flavour, the cook came out and told me they had no beef. So I switched to chicken. Almost 20 minutes later, my teeny package of roti arrived, wrapped in household wax paper and aluminum foil which made it particularly hard to open. I got to the nearby park to eat it and found that it had no cutlery (which I usually get with to-go roti). But in this case, it wasn't required because it had about as much filling as a beef patty, next-to-none. And most of that filling was bone. And the flavour was bland and under-salted. The roti shell was dry and chalky. I won't think twice about never returning. read more

Over the years, I've patronized this institution and thought it fairly decent. However, last night I purchased two large king fish meals. I could not finish my meal last night as I struggled through the fish. It, and the sauce lacked flavor and was overly fishy, to the point of nauseating. I've eaten king fish a million times so I know what it tastes, and looks like. The fish i had was dense, hard, as a matter of fact, I do not believe it was king fish, as I know it. By the way, I am from he Caribbean and eat primarily Caribbean. As I could not finish the fish last night, I had left a piece for tonight. Having braved another try at it, the "thing" is sitting in my stomach and feels like there are men at war there. What the hell did I eat? I also had to OD on the lemon juice over the fish to quell the odor but didn't help much. Take away: have a look at your meal before you pay for it and leave the restaurant. I think their meat dishes are much better. Their baked goods are also great. Sorry but when take out for one meal costs the better part if $20, you gotta say something so the proprietor brushes up on his/her folly grounds. read more

I've never written a review about anything before, but this place. Man. Words can hardly describe. I used to work in the area and I would go there for lunch almost everyday (friday being my favourite because they did steamed veggies). You see, I am a sucker for Oxtail and this place has the absolute best I have ever had in my life. I've been searching all over in the area I live for something to compare and nothing even comes close. Just thinking about it makes me want to move closer to Gerry's so I can get fat off that Oxtail. Not only is the Oxtail from another world, the service is amazing and the staff is extremely friendly. I live on the complete opposite side of the city but I will start TTC'ing an hour there and an hour back every friday just to indulge. If you are thinking about visiting this fine establishment, think no longer. PS, grab me an order of oxtail please. read more

I tend to only post when I love or hate a place. I found myself reminded over East of how much I loooooove Gerry's. I went in to stock up on sweet potato pudding for a visiting friend and succumbed to a goat roti. They really are, I think, the best in Toronto--not just great cooks and great bakers, a combo hard to find in most of the West Indian places in Toronto, but they start with quality ingredients. The meat is a good cut and there is a wonderful absence of the oily scum many places seem to believe imparts authenticity. And their fruit cake--ooh aaahhhhh! Finally, their prices are reasonable, perhaps because, unlike a lot of places, they play first to their own community, something I think accounts for the always pleasant and friendly atmosphere here. This place felt like home the second I walked in the door for the first time a couple months ago. Ive tried the jerk pork and the jerk chicken and both were outstanding. I'm also allergic to carrots and couldn't eat the coleslaw but after the head cook heard that he went out of his way to make me a side slaw from scratch without carrots. Noones ever done that for me, so it was kind of a big deal, plus... it was amazing! Highly suggest this place to anyone that wants real home made style Caribbean cooking. read more

It was my daughter's first birthday and I ordered catering from Gerry's. The food was delicious and the price was right. I ordered the Jerk chicken, rice and peas, fried chicken and cocktail patties. Me and my family have been going to Gerry's for over 10 years now. I still go almost every week for some stewed beef, goat roti, or chicken soup for my mother.
