Have used them a couple of times, pretty rude and unhelpful. Fine for a basic service but I'd go elsewhere for anything major.

Only because they closed with 0 notice to existing customers. I had been going to Mick for 10 years and he had been pretty great although you need to remember his crew was mechanics, not customer services specialists. I hope all is ok with them, but how about a notice or an email after years of servicing multiple cars. read more

My hubby and I recently purchased a BMW and after my hubby did some reviews online, he decided to try German Motors for our service needs. I never went in for service, but based upon my hubby's reviews, he was very happy with Mick's service and pricing. I believe he's the owner and he's very hands-on with the service, it's him and another gentleman who works on the cars, so you know who's handling your vehicle the moment you drop it off. The service is A+ and we were very happy with the work. My hubby found him to be a good guy and most importantly, honest...which is hard to find with some mechanics! We will definitely be going to Mick again for our auto needs! read more

I purchased a 2007 328i from here in the first week of February 2019 that same day I drove the car for about 200 miles before having the service engine light come on. I took it to autozone they told me what it was but the light went away. But I'm sure that this light was on before I bought it because it has now come back on, so the light was turned off before I purchased the car and comes back on after a couple of hours driving. And the car only has 91,000 miles... read more

My son has bought a 2012 BMW from Mick about two years ago. It is running strong and purrs like a kitten. He takes the car in for regular service and tune ups as Mick advised. Have a reliable and safe car to drive, no issues. We have had excellent service from German Motors. The man is honest and in my opinion the only place I would recommend and trust to work on my cars. Moreover, his knowledge about cars is unsurpassed and he freely shares his expertise with you. His prices are reasonable and fair. Take your car there and you won't be disappointed!! read more

Mick is a former mechanic at BMW... Built the darn things in Germany. Doesn't get better than that! Fair pricing and works with you if you don't need the car fast. He primarily does BMW's and knows them very well. read more

German Motors - Auto Repair Near Me - San Ramon, California

I went to German Motors to fix a broken serpentine belt in my BMW M5. Mick was very rude, overpriced and tried to convince me that the belt broke because the power steering pump had siezed. I calmly suggested that I didn't think that the pump had siezed because it turned freely by hand and the symptoms of a siezed pump weren't apparent when the belt broke. He became irate and said "Look, I don't have time to discuss possible problems with you. I told you what is wrong. Figure out what you want to do and let me know." I was taken aback by his retort because I had been there before. So, I contacted a few other shops in the area. I found another one within a block that gave me a much better deal. In case I was wrong, I asked what the pump would cost if it needed to be replaced. I was quoted a price for the part that was $250 cheaper than what Mick quoted. So, in giving Mick the benefit of the doubt, I asked him if he could find a cheaper pump. He said "No. Look, you have an expensive car, so it is expensive to repair." After paying Mick $85(!) to put my car on the rack (he had it back together and off the rack in 5 minutes) I took my car to Autowerks European . Going back to German Motors would have cost me well over $1000 and I would have had to pay for a pump I didn't need. Getting a second opinion and taking it somewhere else cost me about 70% less than what Mick would have charged me. My car runs perfectly, now. showing that his diagnosis was wrong to begin with. read more

I have nothing but praise for Mick at German Motors. He was prompt, called me with an estimate at the time promised, and did not rip me off. In fact, his prices were about $400 cheaper than the BMW dealership. I found him honest, reasonable, and more importantly... he fixed the car! Convenient to a rental car shop as well (just 1/2 block down the street). No complaints here... will definitely be back when I need to! read more

garbage customer service. doesn't even know how to do Clutch Delay Valve removal. wants $150 for it for a 15-30 minute job. While edge quoted me $60, then told me to have them do it then.... just telling you that it was unreasonable quote. but most of all fire that guy on the phone. read more

mick did a great job on replacing my radiator and followed up with a call to make sure everything was running smoothly. i trust him and will be returning for all scheduled maintenence in the future read more

Mick was recommended to me by a single woman who completely trusts him for her car repairs. Just tried him out for a major service on our 330ci. He was honest and seemed very objective as to what the car needed. I have a fair amount of knowledge with cars and I agreed with the work he said was requried. My wife picked the car up and he was very nice to her...not condescending the way some auto repair dealers treat women. Will definitely return here in the future. read more

Having been a customer with this concern since 2010, the experience was less than average. Remove and replace at random is not a substitute for modern computer and electrical situations. Example: Horn would not sound. GM could not repair it, but rather ( Checked fuse and it was not blown } advised to replace horn relay, which I did on my own. No help. Went to MB dealer who found blown second fuse, which had failed. Problem solved. This was followed by several other problems, treated the same way. Simple services were OK, but I have lost confidence and trust at GM. read more

if i could give this place zero stars. i definitely would. completely horrid & dreadful customer service. they treated me worse than a homeless person when i was willing to pay all the up charges & up sales they hit me with. never going back. read more

I have been taking my Mercedes' here for many years and not only is the quality of the service 5 Star, but Mick, the owner has affordable prices and has never told me I needed a repair just to get more money out of me. (I'm a totally ignorant woman about mechanics, so it would be easy to take advantage of me). I was told by the dealership when my car was just off warranty that I needed a new transmission which would have cost me thousands of dollars. I went straight to German Motors and Mick said I did not need this. I drove that car for two more years with absolutely no issue with my transmission, btw. My new car is on warranty now, but I will be back to German Motors when it expires. read more

I have been taking my euro cars to Mick for well over ten years, maybe more, and he always does a great job at a price well below dealer costs. I have not had any issues with any of his work. I trust him and his honesty. read more

Micks the best! My family and I have been going to German Motors for years. He's a straight shooter, incredibly honest and truly a Master Mechanic. I usually work on my own cars, so I'm pretty picky when I have to take my cars in to a shop. Mick is a mechanic you can trust. Thanks for fixing the G Mick! It's running good. read more

Would give them 2.5 out if 5 stars. Was helpful in the sense that they took my car in a timely manner but 2 huge complaints. Brought in for oil change and fluid top off, was quoted $130. Car is done and I'm presented with a $210 bill. Rule I thumb if at any point for whatever reason Cost is going to be more then what's quoted you call to approve not just do it. Second my check engine light is on and instead of taking 2 min to check it after being over charged they say "your check engine light is on". Thanks for stating the obvious, I can see that, tell me what the code is or what's wrong. Bad experience, not recommended read more

I have been going to German Motors for over 20 years and never have had such great service all the way around!!!! I think some people just like to trash a business because they are all about $$$$ and have overly elevated themselves somehow!! Having my car serviced here with the honesty and integrity for so many years has been a real bonus in my life!! I highly recommend German Motors! read more

Mickey is so incredibly knowledgeable about German cars - old and new. It is obvious that he's been working in this industry for years. He's also very honest and straightforward. He won't try to sell you anything you don't need. He also delivers outstanding customer service and had me shuttled to Starbucks until my car was ready! read more

They stole my ABS breaking system from car. I called owner and told him that I was on my way, but car broke down about 1 mile from shop, had it towed in, and then he refused to work on it. No problem, his shop. I left my car there, with his permission, for 30 days before picking it up. When i got it back to my place and finally popped the hood, the ABS system was gone (another mechanic noticed it). Mick from German Motors took no responsibility. I also think they changed my expensive BMW battery for a cheap dead battery, but i can't prove it. I had my ABS when driving my car to shop, car gets picked up from shop and towed to me, hood opens and part is missing. Unless someone stole it from his lot, and he should be responsible, or one of his mechanics put it in someone else's car. Mine is a 2000 BMW 528. I've never accused a mechanic of anything illegal before in my life. Rude and unprofessional. They do a lot of business obviously, but i would not trust him, and I've filed claim against him with my insurance company. read more

I had a problem with my '82 Porsche 911SC and took it in to Mick and Robert at German Motors, without an appointment (after a bad experience elsewhere). They gave me a very reasonable quote, resolved the problem, and charged me what they had quoted. They've definitely earned my business. Thanks guys! read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible. If the same mechanic who worked on my car six years ago is still there, he charged me $180 for parts that cost $40 and had the audacity to remove my license plate frames and replace them with German Motors frames on my car without my permission! What? read more

We have taken our vehicles to Mickey literally for coming up on three decades. Always in good humor, scrupulously helpful and honest, German Motors is our go-to shop -- not only for our German cars (we've had two), but also for Swedish and Japanese cars (I think that covers all the countries' cars we've taken in!). read more
