Always great when you find an honest mechanic in a small town that can easily take advantage of tourists like myself. My tire kept losing air. I keep a pump in my car but it was losing air steadily. This is the only mechanic in town and they were booked. They made me an appointment late afternoon but then gave me the name of a tire shop in Morro Bay to see if they can help me earlier. Sure enough the tire shop got me in much faster so I canceled my appointment. I really appreciated the fact they gave me another option so I could still enjoy the rest of my day! I just moved to Cambria and this was a great experience! Amazing service and incredible people! My check engine light came on for the second time in a month during Memorial Day weekend, so I drove the car straight to Gerbers on Tuesday morning and I am so glad that I did. The first time this happened I took it to Toyota in SLO, and they found rodent damage (including a very large rat!) It was quite expensive to replace filters and correct other damage, so I wasn't expecting another issue. Cori at Gerbers got me in immediately and they found more damage (another filter was chewed, and the engine air flow was blocked again.) They ordered a new part I needed on the spot which was delivered promptly while I waited. Camren built a screen to prevent future entry by the critters. We were traveling from Colorado and were in Cambria. I drove over a very ruff driveway and bottomed out the rental car. My husband could see there was a leak, but we were unable to verify from where. Called Monday morning and they saw us right away and put the air up on the rack and discovered it was the windshield washer reservoir. They added windshield fluid topped off the coolant and stated "NO CHARGE" This was beyond a surprise and such a relief. Not only did they give me piece of mind, but they also did some work. These are kind people willing to help an out-of-towner. On my way to Big Sur, a piece of my fender ended up dangling against my tire. I was worried about the seriousness of this & if I could make it safely to my destination & eventually home. Gerber's was the only repair shop in town. Fortunately, they fixed the dangling piece enough so I could make it to my destinations. And they took care of it right away--a bit before closing time. We drove into town late Thursday night for the wine festival. While en-route, my car started misfiring. I nursed my car to Rigdon House. While vacationing in Cambria my car wouldn't start. The first time, someone used jumper cables to start the car. The second time, I had issues, I took it to Gerber Auto. They were friendly, professional and worked to get my car back to me as soon as possible. I also had them change the windshield wipers. One of the wipers was bad, when I return, they changed it out immediately, refilled my wiper fluid and won't take a tip. I was very impressed with their service. read more

It's hard to trust any business on the Central Coast. It's like walking through piranha; you get fleeced. However, Gerber's doesn't do that. The front office is professional, friendly and forgiving. The work, in this case a smog check, is priced similar to Paso Robles rather than Morro Bay, which always overprices services. The shop is neat and organized with a comfortable sitting area that they heat! The mechanics, owner included, are friendly. I always get the feeling that they care about what they do. read more

My 2003 Chevy Silverado truck would not crank. Battery and alternator checked out good . Had to tow it to Gerbers. They said $180 to diagnose problem. They found out it was a sensor that was fouled by oil that sent an error signal that would not allow truck to turn over. They fixed it in a half day. Charge was only the diagnostic fee. Gerber's Auto Services cannot reliably perform basic inspections. This business provided false information to the buyer/seller of a vehicle for the sole purpose of expediting a transaction that never should have taken place. When confronted with a written vehicle inspection from an alternate business, the business owner lost his temper and commanded us to leave his premises. Unfortunately for the business owner, other customers witnessed his behavior. Gerber's Auto Services is taking advantage of Cambria's rural location that gives the owner a monopoly on auto services. I would strongly advise traveling to Cayucos or Morro Bay to have any auto services performed. BEWARE OF GERBER'S AUTO SERVICES!! Update: The son of the owner left a "funny" comment on my yelp review, and left a private comment to me referring me as "SO IGNORANT". While on vacation in Cambria Ca. Our car started making this loud grinding noise. We thought not now please! Went on Yelp and started looking for Auto Repair Shops in Cambria. We came across the shop Gerbers Auto Repair. The reviews were good so I dropped the family off at the hotel and went there. The reviews were right! By the time I got there the noise was really loud. My first thought was the cost to repair the issue. Went to the counter and was greeted by a very nice young lady. I explained the issue and within ten minutes the mechanic was pulling the car inside. The car was raised up and he started to look at the front end. He then stated he knew what it was. He spun the left front wheel and the noise was there. I couldn't believe what he said next. Using a pry bar he pushed back the backing plate and a small rock fell out. I said " that's all it is? He says that he's seen this issue many times. The noise was gone. The car was lowered down and removed from the lift. As I was getting ready to pay them he said how about ten bucks. I was pleasantly surprised. Only ten bucks I said? I then proceeded to give them $40.00 and asked that they use it to buy them lunch. What an awesome shop!! It's nice to know that there are still shops that take care of their customers like this. I had thought that our trip was ruined when the noise started. But only after about twenty minutes I was back on the road. Thank You so much Gerbers Repair. You guys are the best! Camren is awesome!!! I was on a road trip 3 hours away from home and started to have car problems. I took my car to there shop and told them what was going on. I was told it would be best to take it to the dealership( which everyone knows dealerships are really expensive), also it was 45 minutes away and I would have to get my car towed. While I was on the phone calling AAA. Camren came outside and ran a diagnostic on my car found out the problem instantly!!! Really easy fix! A clamp came undone. My car is back to normal. Didn't charge me either. The dealership alone was going to charger me $150 for a diagnostic! I'm really thankful I took my car there. read more

Imagine you're several hundred miles from home on your vacation and your car starts acting up. After finding that the auto shop at the Chevron station on Main is permanently closed, you make your way to Gerber's. You explain to them that you are on vacation and having car issues so they immediately take a look at your car and tell you that your car is misfiring and that it's probably a bad cylinder and other things you don't want to hear while you're on vacation, such as, we can't work on your car today. What they also tell you is where you might have better luck getting your car fixed the same day and start looking up phone numbers for you to call. So, while I can't vouch for their ability to fix your car, I can vouch for them being very nice people for taking the time to assist you in finding another mechanic. read more

Gerber Auto ramped up the repair cost and determined a low car value. I had to "total" my 1-owner low mileage (95K) car and then I had to buy it back for $1500+ salvage cost. The car value they determined was 75% of market value. I wanted it repaired but Gerber and State Farm wouldn't budge. The actual car repair costs were 50% of the Gerber estimate!! 2 "used" doors ($400) and about $300 in front end parts was all the damage. The title is now marked "salvage" Lowering the value Of the car. Gerber is part of a scam, stealing cars and making money off insurance instead of actually repairing cars For a fair price. read more

I decided to do this same practice with my Ford F150 which just had it's first smog test notification sent with my registration bill. The whole shop is PROFESSIONAL with no horse play. They are unbelievable quick. The prices are comparable to any major city who have much more competition The quality of work , outstanding.
