I don't normally leave negative reviews, but I feel others should be aware of my recent experience…read moreAmerican Tire Depot in Atascadero. I had an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. After an hour and a half my car still wasn't finished. When I finally asked what was going on, I was told that the mechanic working on my car had simply walked off the job. What surprised me most was that no one had come over to let me know what had happened while I sat there waiting. Eventually I was told the car was finished, but I left not feeling confident that the oil had actually been changed or that the tires had been rotated. There was also no tread-depth information on my receipt, which I normally receive with a tire service. (I had requested that the tire pressure to be at 34psi, however, when I got home and checked it was still at 30psi). To their credit, they did not charge me anything for the visit, which I appreciated. However, my bigger concern wasn't the cost -- it was not knowing with confidence what work had actually been completed on my car. I called the following day with questions about the service and my tire pressures. During that conversation, the manager told me they had two employees leave this week. I understand that staffing problems happen and can put a business in a difficult position, but the lack of communication and uncertainty about the work performed was very concerning. This isn't about criticizing any individual employee. When you leave your vehicle with a professional shop, you need to trust that the work you requested was completed properly and that you'll be kept informed if something goes wrong. Unfortunately, after this experience, I no longer have that confidence. I hope they get things sorted out, but even though I wasn't charged for the service, this experience was bad enough that I would not bring my car back here.

They fixed it for free, noting that the tires still had plenty of tread and that the nail was in a spot that was easily repairable. They were professional and friendly, even though the repair didn't result in an immediate sale for them. Our family has bought tires from America's Tire for over 20 years. It's a great brand, and the employees at this location reminded us exactly why.

The installation was completed on a Wednesday, but on the drive home I noticed the truck consistently pulled to the right. I brought it back on Friday morning, and they performed another alignment. Unfortunately, the truck was still pulling on the drive home, so I turned around and brought it back again. At that point, they called me into the shop and explained that a front passenger-side ball joint needed to be repaired before the alignment could be completed properly. They were unable to perform that repair themselves. My concern was that this issue hadn't been identified during the original tire installation or the second alignment attempt. I don't know whether it was missed initially or if it was simply a coincidence that the problem became apparent when it did, but it was frustrating to learn about it only after multiple visits. I then took the truck to a mechanic, had the repair completed, and was told it would need another alignment. Since the alignment was still under warranty, I returned to America's Tire on Saturday morning for what ended up being a fourth alignment attempt. After working on it again, the technician told me he had done everything he could and recommended that I take it elsewhere to diagnose the pulling issue. I followed that advice and took the truck to another shop, where they were able to correct the problem. I will say that everyone I dealt with was polite and professional throughout the process. No one was rude, and they did make an effort to address my concerns each time I brought the truck back. This was simply my experience. I know many people who use America's Tire and have had excellent service. Unfortunately, after four trips to the shop and still needing another business to resolve the issue, I left disappointed with the overall experience.

On Saturday, we brought our car in for rear brake replacement. Frank, the assistant manager, told us all the brakes needed work, including the pads. We paid $643. When we picked up the car, Frank pointed out a coolant leak we already knew about. We had been topping up the coolant when it was low. He offered to repair the leak, but we declined. On Tuesday morning, we tried to add coolant and discovered the cap was so tight we could not open it. We had previously been able to open it ourselves. We returned to the shop, but Frank was not there. Will, the manager, also struggled to remove the cap. He ultimately used a grinder to get it open. We filled the coolant and went home. On Wednesday, the engine temperature started rising while we were driving. We had to stop twice because we were worried about overheating and damaging the engine. Around 11 a.m., we returned to the shop again, but Frank was not there that day either. Another employee inspected the car and gave us an estimate for an additional $2,318 to repair the leak and replace several parts. We understand that the coolant leak existed before the brake service. What concerns us is that we could previously open the cap and add coolant ourselves, and we had not experienced this temperature issue before these visits. How did a $643 brake visit turn into a cap that required grinding to remove, followed by a rising engine temperature and a $2,318 repair estimate? The cap was so unusually tight that it made us question whether it had been deliberately overtightened, although we cannot prove that. What we do know is that the sequence of events left us feeling unsafe, frustrated, and deeply distrustful of this shop. It was also frustrating that Frank was not present on either of the two consecutive days when we returned with concerns. After years as customers, we expected better care and a clear explanation. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location.

For management's reference specificly, he was not wearing anything that identified him as an employee. His appearance was not the issue. His attitude and the way he handled my appointment were the issue. Between this description, the appointment time, and my service records, management will know exactly who I am referring to. There was no professional introduction, and the interaction felt disrespectful and unprofessional from the beginning. He seemed embarrassed that I was there waiting before he arrived, and it felt like his ego took over from that point forward. When he pulled up my appointment, nearly everything written in the notes was incorrect. By the end of the visit, he presented me with an estimate for more than $800 in supposed repairs. The amount seemed outrageous, and the entire situation made me feel like I was being taken advantage of. I declined the work, asked for my keys back, and paid more than $100 for the oil change they had already completed. I immediately drove across the street to SM Tire and asked them to inspect everything Big Brand Tire claimed was wrong. They checked my vehicle and after a multipoint inspection everything was fine. They rotated my tires, treated me with respect, and handled me like a valued customer. The difference between these two businesses was unbelievable. I left Big Brand Tire feeling frustrated, disrespected, and pressured into repairs I did not need. I left SM Tire feeling respected and confident that I had received an honest assessment. SM Tire was quick, responsible, honest, and reliable. They have earned my trust and all of my future business. Save yourself the frustration, wasted time, and questionable repair estimates.
