He PERSONALLY took the time to understand my entire medical history (rather than having some tech-schooled, slow-writing medical assistant who understands about half of what you are telling her and writes down even less). Even more importantly, Dr. Jacobson demonstrated the ability to think about how existing medical conditions may affect my eyes. After having lots of experiences with MDs of all types, I can honestly say that Dr. Jacobson is definitely a rare and dying breed. Not only does he have an exceptional attention to detail, really good communication skills, outstanding capabilities and the most current knowledge of retinal disease, treatment and care -- he also seems to be a genuinely nice guy. The other MDs in the practice seem equally skilled...I don't have as much first hand experience with them except to say that I had an after-hours emergency and had to page the on-call MD. My call was returned in less than 2 minutes! Dr. Rivalese also offered to see me in the office on Saturday AM. Impressive that they are so responsive to non-life threatening emergencies. Most other MDs would tell their patients to "go to the ER"...but the ER can't do much for eye problems except charge you $2k and tell you to "follow up with your doctor on Monday". Sure, having eye/retina problems is terrible! But knowing that there is competent, professional care is reassuring. Give Georgia Retina and Dr. Jacobson in particular a try...I think they have several locations: Decatur, Riverdale, Perimeter, etc.

Overall, it was a pleasant visit. My only complaint about Woolfson is that we have had to, in addition to the surgery, we had to drive to three different locations to catch a doctor.

Southeastern Retina Associates was exactly what I needed when I needed it most. From the moment I walked in, something shifted. The receptionist set the tone immediately. Warm, grounded, no pretense. That feeling carried through every single person I encountered, right up to the doctor. This wasn't a place where staff are just doing their jobs. These are people who genuinely seem to understand that the person sitting across from them is scared and needs more than clinical competence. They need to feel safe. And I did. Nobody wants folks poking holes in their eyeballs, but I am here to tell you that the surgical team was probably the most efficient crew I have ever seen and I work on a lot of complicated teams. Everyone I came in contact knew exactly what their function was and each communicated quickly and effectively. There was minimal time wasted on every step of the process. They came in, introduced themselves, set expectations, told you how long they would take (and met it) and did their work. The surgery was completed well and I was out in a very short time. The follow-ups don't take long, even when the waiting room is full. they really respect my time. Really great group, all around.

An upgrade from the eye doctor at the Marietta location who we hoped would show the same level of care since she was part of the diaspora. Wrong. The pre-op process was ridiculously disorganized and the communication was TRASH. I had to call multiple times and physically go up there for answers that could have easily been answered over the phone. Their own staff member (not Porsha) informed me that following up isn't their ministry. When it was time to schedule the procedure, no one called to ask if the date was ok or discuss next steps. We just got an email. I called my mom to ask if she got a call back from the scheduler and she stated she had not. After a few more attempts, we were told that the date wasn't set in stone and that we would know a week before the procedure. I explained that we needed to know to bring it to our employers attention (multiple times), but they insisted that they would let us know the week before. A week later, no call; so I called Marietta Eye Clinic back. Porsha (sp) was super helpful and patient throughout this process. The communication was so poor that I had to ask if they treat everyone like this or...??? Porsha was able to finally get a supervisor on the line who walked us through all of the pre-op information. However, the date changed from the originally scheduled date to the day before; unbeknownst to us. The post-op instructions stated that my mom should avoid straining, but they failed to mention that the only medication they prescribed caused constipation. That was a whole other ordeal. Apparently, its not uncommon for medical staff to treat outpatient clients this way. However, for a procedure this expensive; I thought they would've taken more care. When its time to collect a check, their follow up is superb. Imagine that. There are other things that I could've mentioned, but this review is long enough. I'm giving them two stars - one for the eye doctor and one for Porsha, but the state of customer service and care is at an all time low. I had cataract eye surgery 6 months ago and was strongly advised by Dr. Andre Cohen, my surgeon…read more(they cannot give any guarantee's) that the Light Adjustable plus lens was my best option for being glasses free. Well, $15,000 out of pocket and I am back to wearing glasses full time. Even worse is that prior to my surgery, I didn't need reading glasses. Now I can't even see the food on my plate when I eat! I have to wear prescription sunglasses during the day and regular glasses at night and when it's raining. The glare and halos at night make my driving scary and dangerous. I knew that with only 2 star reviews that I should have chosen another ophthalmologist but Dr. Cohen had a pretty strong sales pitch and I took the bait. Listen to the reviews and make your choice wisely. I had such high hopes of being glasses free for the firts time since i was 9 years old.
