I have been coming here for the past 4 years and can't say enough about Dr Segal. I had cataracts lens replacement and it was a game changer. I have worn contacts or glasses since I was in 4th grade. Biggest change is the ability to see when you wake up. I also had floater surgery recommended by Dr Segal and went to a different facility. He knows what he's doing, takes time to explain and give you pros and cons about the procedures. I definitely recommend, actually my husband had his lens replacement surgery this year. Sometimes, one should "listen" to the reviews previously written. Prior to making my first appointment with Georgia Eye Physicians and Surgeons, I did see the reviews online about practice cancellations, lack of follow up by staff, and payment issues. I thought these issues just went with the territory - every office has them - however, now I see what others are stating and seeing. I spoke to Krystal (administrator) around 8am on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 about my disappointment with the practice cancelling for a 3rd time in a row my appointment and my son's appointment. I had asked Krystal for the clinic manager, Maritza Hoyos, to call me, because as the clinic manager, I wanted her to understand how frustrating it is to try to do business with a practice that continuously changes dates and policy. I also knew that she could reach the doctor and express my concerns. I am an established patient with Dr. Segal. I came to him because I felt I was not getting the service I needed from my previous provider. I was truly impressed with him and his insights. He is a very good doctor. All of this is now undermined by the practice continuously cancelling Friday appointments. I certainly can't be the only one impacted. I was told that Dr. Segal works one Friday out of the month (usually the last Friday of the month, but not always), so unless he is changing Fridays to work (of which we should have been notified and given first dibs on those Friday appointments), it appears he is not working any Fridays. Why is the practice offering Fridays at this point if the doctor has no desire to work them? I have wasted 90 days of my time on trying to stay in the practice. If the shoe was on the other foot (late cancellation, no-show, non - payment, etc.), the practice or a bill collector would be relentlessly trying to collect fees from me. I must have a Friday appointment as that is the only day that my son is available. It is just that simple. If you are not able to offer and KEEP Friday appointments just tell me. I did receive a call back from Maritza on the evening of June 4th, and she stated that she would be meeting with the doctor on the 5th and would bring this to his attention. On June 5th, I hoped to receive a call but no call ever came. However, a call did come from Maritza on June 6th, and she told me that she did speak to the doctor. What she offered: another Friday, another day of the week, and recommendations for another practice if I so desired. My first question was if I went with another Friday (the next one in late July), did the doctor commit to not cancelling? She said she could not guarantee that he would not....and that told me everything I needed to know about this practice. As the head of the practice (the doctor), you know you have a patient that must have a certain day of the week that you supposedly offer, however, with that retort, the odds are more than likely that another cancellation would come about. I do want to give Maritza high marks for bringing my issue to the doctor, as this is his practice, and he makes the decisions (i.e., don't shoot the messenger). While this is a very capable doctor, as an administrator and head of his own practice, there are a lot of concerns. Therefore, I have already found another doctor in the area. Hello my name is Mary Noelle and I had a scheduled appointment on November 27th at Georgia Eye Physicians and surgery getting there at my set time appointment greeting as I walked in signed in by Crystal and the front desk technicians and set for about 5 minutes and was called to the back by Dr William assistant I did not get her name but she know who she is she told me my eye test was great everything went well by both of the young ladies that tested my eyes on different machines I want to let the office know keep up the great work y'all doing a great job and I've been going there for over 10 years a great doctor for recommendation for cataract surgery stigmatism surgery and other surgeries dealing with the eyes God bless you all read more

I visited two times(including following up check). The first time was because my left eye was dry. I got 2 exams on the first day of the visit and Dr diagnosed my left eye as dry and prescribed eye drops which is my insurance didn't cover. The second time was a follow-up. I got FOUR(4) exams on a follow-up day. Those are all for glaucoma. I wasn't even diagnosed with glaucoma.. They examined my eye 6 times for two visits and charged me over $1,500.00 and I had to pay $350.007 This is overtreatment !! This is how they make money from patients. read more

I visited first time this AM...Mainly concerned about developing macro degen like father. Dr. Segal confirmed I have mild condition and gave guidance. Will return in a year after monitoring. Also acknowledged incipient cataracts that may be removed when I feel like it. Exam was thorouhg anmd took less time than I anticipated. read more

Dr. Segal recently performed cataract surgery on both eyes... about one week apart. The process was stressful mostly because I wanted to ensure that I made the right decision as the procedure is permanent. I decided to go with the manual surgery (insurance doesn't cover laser surgery or multi-focal lenses) with distance focus in my right eye. The day after surgery I had my followup appointment and was told that I have 20/20 vision. I was ecstatic. During this followup I decided to go ahead with the other eye. As an artist, I wanted to make sure my close up vision was addressed. I had considered having a near focus lens in my left eye but I was told that the insurance only covers having the same focal distance in both eyes (I have no idea why). I was later told that the cost is only $350... that wasn't an issue so I decided to go ahead with that. Both times, btw, I was given contact lenses to try out and gauge my vision. I am an artist and I work with my iPad Pro and Apple pencil. I tried it out, but was a little uncertain. Dr. Segal gave me great direction and he took the time to discuss the potential outcome. I was nervous and hoped and prayed that I was making the right choice as I was told that some people have issues with different focal lengths in each eye. As soon as the day after this surgery I became, again, ecstatic! My vision was amazing... both near and far. I resumed work on an illustration and quickly noticed that I was seeing much clearer with amazing focus... realizing what I had been missing out on. Dr. Segal and his staff are world class and I highly recommend them. I was treated with respect and after the surgeries I began to think of them as good friends who sincerely cared about me. They turned a nervous and stressful situation into an amazing experience. My vision is wonderful. I drive around checking out my new world, amazed at being able to read signs at a long distance... seeing a beautiful new world with brighter and more intense color and detail. I am delighted to work on my illustrations via my iPad Pro and my Mac Pro computer and Ultra-Wide screen. I also do audio and video editing. It is a far more enjoyable experience being able to see so clearly and with crisp detail. read more

Dr. Segal and Dr. Lay are both caring, friendly, knowledgeable and thorough doctors. I have had challenges over the years with my eyesight including high pressure which were all addressed. After laser surgery to address the high eye pressure the pressure stayed within the normal ranges even after several few years. The staff are very knowledgeable, caring and patient. I have been very impressed with their handling of the tests prior to seeing the doctors. All have been able to answer my questions. I also have to say I appreciate the help I get when picking out new glasses. The last thing to add is scheduled appointment times have never been delayed. I really believe this place ruined my eyes. Every since I saw them I have not been able to see well. I had never had problems with my corrected vision pryor to going to this place. The doctor asked me if I had any problems focusing or seeing spots I told him no. I had never had any of these issues. He then proceeded to give me a refraction that prevented me from being able to focus for hours and then gave me a new pair of contacts he recommended I try out. While still unable to focus I had to pick out frames. My vision has been terrible since. I cant focus on anything anymore close or far. It seems very convenient that I suddenly have issues after he informed me that I should start seeing a decline in my vision and that its only natural in your forties. I feel they intentionally ruined my eyes for profit. read more

The dr that I saw was lovely (Dr. Lay), the woman who began my exam was also lovely. My experience with billing and everything thereafter has been surreal. I can't believe how much of my time has been spent dealing with this issue, you know it's a mess because I am taking MORE of my time to post a review. I called and scheduled an appointment for a routine eye exam (no issues, no contact lenses, no glasses, just my rx). I went in at the scheduled day and time and received a ROUTINE, annual eye exam. I have been getting eye exams annually since I was in the 4th grade, so I would have known if anything was different this time. Yet somehow my insurance was billed as a MEDICAL eye exam. I have called Julie McGill in Billing and Karen the office manager and repeatedly been told either to call someone else or they will call me back (and don't) or that I had a medical eye exam and that I was billed properly which obviously is unacceptable because then I have to pay for it and it's not what I scheduled an appointment for NOR was that the type of exam I received. I also paid for refraction on the day of service yet on the bill they show that as being payment towards my copay. A copay that I am only responsible for had I gotten a MEDICAL eye exam. All annual routine eye exams with my insurance are 100% covered. It's just clearly an error but no one will take the time to talk to the dr who saw me or look at my chart to fix the error. Someone could just simply call me with the information at hand so they can explain why they believe at GA Eye Physicians & Surgeons that a routine eye exam is actually considered a medical exam. They are just forcing me to call to get answers and ask questions to resolve the issue and then blowing me off or telling me to call back or that they will call me back (but then not calling me back). If you choose to see a dr at this office be sure that you are clear with the staff about your vision insurance and what services you are there to receive. THEN get proof of the type of service you received to take with you because if there is an error you will have trouble with the office staff and billing. Or... you could just go to one of the many other offices and avoid this drama all together. read more

I have had both a good experience and a very bad experience with Dr Segal and Dr Lay. First I came in for an issue with my right eye having a floater that was impairing my vision. They did get me in very fast and examined my eye. Dr Segal seemed very knowledgable. He did not prescribe anything other than a wait and see and then a follow-up visit. I have insurance and Dr Segal said don't worry this is covered by you insurance which I thought was strange since he knew nothing about my policy. I paid several of the bills adding up to about $800.00. Several weeks later I received another bill for 515.00. I called to say that I thought that I had paid my bill in full at that time even though none of the actual charges showed up on their statement. Billing told me that my first bill was $884.00 and the follow-up was $684.00. Both appointments lasted approximately 30 minutes and again nothing was prescribed except a wait and see. The billing company said that they could do nothing and recommended I contact the doctor which I did. Dr. Lay called me back and basically tried to lay out how they had no idea what the billing should look like and that for some people it may be they pay $50 and for some may pay $1600.00. I guess trying to convince me that they have no Idea of their fee schedule. All of which seems so disingenuous. Finally I also went forward with a contact lens order and was told if they could not fit my left eye I could return the lens. After the second lens in my left eye I gave up and returned it just to be told that there was a re-stocking fee. Their waiting room is always empty and I guess that's because of the lack of clear billing and prices that are far above the normal fees. I have since been told by several people that they would not go there for glasses because of the excessive billing. I would certainly shop for these services elsewhere since it was clear to me that they had no interest in resolving these issues! read more

I don't know why I spent over $600 for a pair of glasses when I had similar pairs before for only $300 elsewhere. However, after doing all the eye test, I felt obliged to buy a pair there, perhaps. When the glasses came, it did not help me reading. I used the prescription and ordered online. It came in two weeks. It cost $40 and much better for me. I even added more features since the price was so low. This office also had me sign a piece of paper saying I would be charged if I did not keep the appointment time. I don't know if this price level and imposing this kind of condition is well liked by general population. However, I will not even go near that office. read more

Dr. Segal has taken care of my eyes for years. I recently had cataract surgery and a glaucoma procedure. I had a lot of questions and concerns. Dr. Segal patiently answered all of my questions. Dr Segal is exceptionally RUDE!! I wouldn't go back to this practice if you paid me. I had to cancel my appointment because I have a rare brain condition called intracranial hypertension which causes migraines and blurry vision and the morning of my appointment I had both, a migraine and blurry vision, so I didn't feel well enough to go, nor did I feel like it was safe enough for me to drive and he changed me $50!!!! I am so pleased with my experience with the office staff and especially Dr. Segal that I highly recommend them. Every time I have gone to the office for testing I have been waited on quickly and the people doing the testing have been friendly and knowledgeable. I had surgery for removal of a cataract and it was supposed to be done on the day after Atlanta got a few inches of snow that shut down the city. Dr. Segal called my personally to see if I felt I would be able to get to my surgical appointment the next day due to the weather and driving conditions. I was all in! I got to the surgery, it went perfectly and he explained everything so I knew what to expect. He called me later in the day after my surgery to be sure I was doing well. This type of personal care is not something we get from doctors very often. My eye site is fantastic now and I am so glad I had the surgery and I used this office to have it done! read more

I really like this office and have had good experiences with both doctors. I drive all the way from Roswell to go here because they seem to be a cut above other offices that I have tried. The glasses here are pricer than Costco but they have the highest quality coating on their lenses and the frames are stylish. read more

My husband had very specific challenges involved in his cataract surgery and Dr. Segal not only addressed every concern but also was able to do his surgery in a timely manner. Considering all the issues--the doctors to clear, the paperwork involved--his staff was extremely responsive as well. stay away from these people. They are super nice to you but are drawing you into spending way more money than you should at this place. Two years ago I went in for a simple routine eye exam to update prescriptions for glasses I had been wearing for 2-3 years. After the exam, they dilated my pupils and kept me around for a long time and then got their physician to come and check my eyes for minor tests. I found out later that they billed both my vision insurance plan and my HMO for large sums of money. I am having to pay nearly $200 because they (supposedly) did a procedure that was outside my vision plan coverage. This place is a scam! Just avoid them and go to any walk-in eyeglass store that is covered by your insurance and get your eyes checked for $10-$20 co-pay and buy frames/glasses. Even with minor research on the internet, you'll see that these big offices are no different from Costco/Target/Walmart in the quality of the eye test (they all use the same damn eye charts and machines to check the focal length of your natural lenses in your eyes, c'mon!). Wherever you go, make sure they do not bill both your vision and health insurance plans, definitely no need to be dipping into your health insurance unless you need surgery or some other correction (like cataract, glaucoma, etc.). PLEASE do a little research and save yourself from scam artistes like these people. Super nice reception but beware of the dagger behind your back!! read more

I'm glad I found this place. I made a mistake of sleeping with my eye makeup and contacts in. I woke up with bloodshot eyes and my eyes were extremely sensitive to any kind of light. It turned out I had a corneal ulcer like I had suspected. I was terrified from reading the horror stories about corneal ulcers. I knew I had to see an ophthalmologist right away. I was referred to Dr. Segal. They scheduled me the day I called, which was great! The wait was not long at all. I recommend you come earlier than your scheduled time so that you can fill out all the paperwork. I was seen by an ophthalmic technician and an optometrist prior to seeing Dr. Segal. The staff took their time to really examine my eyes and I just felt like I was in great hands. Dr. Segal did not waste any time. He examined my eyes and thoroughly explained the problem to me. He gave me an antibiotic eye drop that treated my eye within a week. I have to say, I walked in pretty scared but most importantly, I walked out feeling safe.
