The engineer was not shy with the bell or whistle, which makes me giddy every time! There is a voice over tour guide along the ride with useful historical and technical details. Beautiful landscapes, tresses, a high bridge, a mining camp, a teepee, the echo in the canyon, this place is just wonderful and we enjoyed it tremendously! Absolutely go for it. This is a steam powered train with open air passenger cars. The round trip from Georgetown to Silver Plume and back lasts about 45 minutes. It can be loud near the engine and beware that the back of the train becomes the front on the return trip. Definitely an enjoyable experience. read more

Beautiful scenery! I absolutely love hearing the steam engine when it starts up the hill! A little pricey for a fairly short ride, but the views are exceptional! Just a fantastic way to enjoy the Colorado outdoors and explore the old silver mines of Georgetown. Dennis and I took this fun train loop to the silver mine on a tour and went spelunking down into the mines with our guide. The train is an old steam engine that goes over huge old tressels high over the hills and valleys. It dumps you off at the silver mines for tours and brings you back later. This is our 2nd tour and brought my mother that has trouble getting around and can't stand very long. One of the guide helpers recognized it and allow us to switch tour that was shorter inside the mine. They gave her a ride up the hill after the tour. These guys truly do a incredible job. read more

Took an afternoon ride on the train in Dec. we pre purchased tickets on line. We arrived 30 mins early to park, check in and get in line. We did not have designated seats with our tickets. This was a really cool stop on our Rocky Mountain road trip. The price is about $30 a person for just the train ride. You can add about $12 on to that price if you are interested in a mine tour (there are 3 that you can choose from.) The views that this ride offers are breathtaking. But you should know that the train ride is only about 15 minutes each way. You start out in Georgetown and ride the train to Silver Plume, Wait 10 minutes and then ride back. $30 for this is quite pricey. But... you are riding a sweet looking train in a beautiful part of the Rocky Mountains... its pretty gnarly. But expensive. Unless you have kids under the age of 10, I would skip out on the mine tours. You simply walk about 300 feet into a mine and they tell you some history about that particular mine. This part bored me a bit, and I'm a history buff. I guess it's worth trying out once, but i definitely won't do it again. All in all, you will be paying a chunk of change, but it's totally worth it in my opinion. Soak it in, take your time looking around each spot, and take lots of pictures. read more

1st time and we loved it! We chose the earliest departure, it wasn't crowded at all, even on Father's Day. It definitely got more crowded as the day progressed. We had our choice of open car or semi-open car (covered but no windows); also mask or no mask sections. All the staff are super friendly with lots of waves and smiles, making the experience memorable. One of the conductors started a conversation with my 3 y/o & offered him a "flattened-by-the-train" penny, which he loved! The amount of time on the train is perfect, about 45 minutes. Scenery was very pretty (sometimes getting a view of civilization- highway) with places to get good pictures. Perfect forfamily activities if you have little ones. I was immediately turned off by the two hags working the ticket counter when we arrived. I won't bore everyone with the details, but the two ladies together could write the perfect dissertation for terrible customer service. We eventually got our train tickets and opted for a mine tour as well. Good choice. From this point on, it was a wonderful experience. Field trip for the teens. My son and I had been before when he was younger but I thought it would be fun to ride again. Took his classmate with us as they have been stressed with going to school in a pandemic. We chose a weekday during fall break and encountered little traffic. It had snowed the day before and it was pretty. Unfortunately some riders were unhappy that they couldn't choose where they could sit and that there was snow on some seats. It was cold and some were unprepared. We had our winter coats and gloves but when the wind blew it was chilly. There were only three groups who added the mine tour as well so we bundled into the car with first access to the platform and off we went. It was amazing. The trees and soaring birds. The sun and the snow on the ground. The rails, rivers and bridges. I love trains and it was fun when the whistle blew. The conductors provided information as we went along and sometimes it was difficult to hear over conversation but i didn't mind. The ride was beautiful. The mine tour was great. We had the tour guide to ourselves as one of the parties who signed up didn't come on board the train. So the teens got to ask lots of questions and look at everything without being crowded. Everyone was so friendly. Tip- go to the bathroom at the station before getting on as no restrooms on train. There's an actual bathroom at the mine stop which was great. The ride was fabulous and informative. For me the best part was how much the kids enjoyed themselves. We will be back. It never gets old. read more

The train ride itself was very gorgeous. The coal/steam engine train was pretty cool too. Lots of history given throughout the ride and all employees dressed up western style. It actually isn't a loop, they pull you one way and then change the engine to the other side and pull you right back the way you already saw. It was still neat going both ways. Train ride took about 1 hour. I suggest driving Guanella Pass if you are in the area. read more

This review is based on the Enchanted Forest train ride offered in the winter. I was pretty bummed about this, I've heard about it and it always sounded cool, but it was pretty lame. There were a bunch of sections on the train ride that had no lights, and the ones that did were mostly pre-lit figurines and parts of tree trunks. This had the potential to be amazing, but I would never do it again. The best part was seeing the little kids faces when Santa came through the train cars. The lights were such a letdown. This being said, riding the train in the daylight may be awesome, but the Christmas events are not worth it for the experience and price. read more

We went to the Christmas lights and Santa ride on the Friday before Thanksgiving with our two kiddos. We had a great waitress and the experience started out good but the Santa that Georgetown hired ruined the experience for us unfortunately. We were sat at a table towards the front of the train car and Santa entered at the back. Our kids watched as Santa talked to every kid on the train and asked them what they wanted for Christmas and were super excited. Once Santa got to us he took a picture with our kids and then just walked away. We then had to explain to our kids why Santa didn't talk to them. Needless to say we will not be returning. read more

Great railroad....we did the train ride with the Lebanon mining tour. The price was reasonable, the boarding of the train was efficient and it left right on time. You can take food/drinks and eat on the train. The views are beautiful, open air seating so you have a nice breeze. The mining tour was interesting. You get to pan for gold afterward. For a few bucks more you get snacks and drinks plus a table and a chair vs just a bench with no food. We came here this weekend with about 20 of us. When we 1st got there, they had a souvenir shop and a booth that gives out free hot chocolate and cookies. We went on Santa's North Pole Adventure, which lasts about an hour. After that we got on board the train and the attendants were really friendly and courteous. It was snowing outside, so we got some amazing scenery and to see locations that were a huge part of history. At the beginning of the train ride a photographer comes through and takes a picture of each group. He comes by later and shows you the picture and asks if you would like 2 pictures for $20. We ended up getting 2 pictures, because they are some pretty cool memories. At the mid point of the train ride, Santa comes out and talks to all the children and gives them a gift. Santa and his helpers were so awesome, they even let 1 of our big kids (29 yr old) sit on his lap and ask him for a present! After that he had our whole cart singing Jingle Bells. Our whole group had a blast. Great customer service, awesome scenery and a nice piece of history. read more

Short trip but nice kids enjoyed it not much for sites on this trip we were expecting better scenery but the train itself was great. Also Georgetown is really great little old town with beautiful homes take a drive down some of the side streets homes are a historical beauty. We tried getting tickets on site bad idea book ahead we had to wait 230 hours to get on train but that gave us time to visit the nearby Georgetown. We visited on 6/28/21 most people not wearing mask due to open train ride plenty of seating for personnel space. We were in a large RV there is a few spots for large parking but limited it's at a dead end so you will have to maneuver to get in & out but not a big deal. We recommend this ride but next time we will look for a train with more scenery. read more

Simply put, this train ride is terrible. I'm so mad we wasted our money on this. - The views are horrible. Actually, there are no views which makes them horrible. Trees obstruct basically everything. - The main event is going over the bridge. Well, the bridge is like 20 feet long so it's not that great and also I felt like we were going to go tumbling off the track up there. It definitely did not feel safe (though we were fine). - We bought tickets for the first class parlor car, expecting that it would be great and it wasn't. It was full of screaming kids. There really should be an adults-only parlor car. - The conductor gave only brief historical snippets. I wish there was more of that. Or at least a headset that you could do at your own pace if you wanted to learn more of the history. - Lastly, the price (almost $40/pp) was ridiculous for what we got out of it (which was nothing). The only good things about the train ride was that we could bring on our own food and the staff on board were AWESOME (friendly, fun, upbeat). Such a fun Christmas experience for little kids. We opted for this instead of doing the Colorado railroad museum this year because our kids were too young to understand the polar express story and we were so happy we did. 3 year olds love this train and seeing santa and all of the lights. This past weekend, my sister and I did Santa's North Pole Adventure, which is $26.95 per adult and $16.95 for children. This is a $2 premium for adults over the "regular" train ride, but is the same price for children. The premium is for hot chocolate (good, but don't expect anything more than hot water mixed with hot chocolate mix in a styrofoam cup, because that is what you will get), a picture with Santa (if you ask), a chocolate chip cookie on the train (out of a box, not freshly baked), and a candy cane at the end. The price is pretty steep but this is probably one of those things you only do one time for the experience, so it might be worth it... although I wouldn't venture so far as to call it a "once in a lifetime experience". What you're paying for is an authentic experience - a train ride on an old steam train through the Rockies - and if that's what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed. It's definitely a thing for kids and families, as my sister and I, both over the age of 30, were the only ones there without at least one kid. They do an adults only train later in the evening that includes alcohol and hors d'oeuvres for $34.95, although I'm not sure if that would be worth it. It does tend to sell out, though, so maybe it is. When I called to inquire about tickets, the woman on the phone told me that there were only two seats left on the train, and that we had to be on the platform 30 minutes before departure time. I'm not sure that either of these things were true, since they seemed to still be selling tickets when we got there, and people showed up right before the scheduled departure time with no problem. A line does form about 15 minutes before the train is scheduled to depart, but it's fine as long as you aren't at the very end of it (they load the train back to front, and the front car has only benches and no tables, unlike the rest of the trains that have real chairs and tables). I'm sure that she is just told to tell people that so they don't show up late, but it was a bit annoying since we followed it to the letter, rushing out of our lunch in Boulder and showing up way too early to the train station. And, yes, the trains ARE heated... so do not fear as you wait on the cold train platform for it to come. Oh, also, don't expect it be right on schedule, since our train showed up about 10 minutes late, then had to be unloaded before we could board. There are no bathrooms on the train, but it's only about an hour ride and there are bathrooms outside the store/ticket office where you pick up your hot chocolate. I'd say that this is exactly what you'd expect it to be, no more and no less. Not really a must-do, but also not a bad thing to do. read more

Freeway construction delayed us so we arrived just when the train was scheduled to leave and was prepared to change to a later train but the staff let us board and made us feel welcomed!!!!
