    Santa magical forest

Amazing Christmas train! We decided to buy tickets for the last ride of the night (8pm) for Santa's Enchanted Forest. We also wanted to ride Parlor class this time as we've ridden coach before. Parlor had tables and snacks and drink service! Santa was so much fun too. We declined having any pictures taken, I heard the lady say it was $25 for one print. Which is fine but I also didn't think I looked cute enough as I was bundled to the cheeks. It was below freezing! After the ride we visited Mrs Clause and got the kid's jingle bells and hot chocolate.

A fun experience to kick-off the holiday season! Our family visited on November 16 and bought our tickets in August for this experience. We drove from Denver and the roads and weather conditions were perfect. There was plenty of parking when we arrived for the 5 pm train ride. Upon arrival, you are greeted with beautiful lights and holiday cheer. You need to get your paper tickets from the depot/gift shop. Nearby, Ms.Klaus is handing out hot chocolate, cookies, and candy canes. We also brought own snacks as well. We chose to sit in coach and sat on the 3rd Coach car (where people walk through to access the other coach seats) and glad we did! It wasn't shoulder to shoulder like the other cars. Our family could freely look out both sides of the train and took pics with their own cameras too (ages 6 and 8). Before the train starts, a photographer comes around to take pics and the cost is 1 for $20 or 2 for $25. During the ride, Santa makes an appearance and it was very sweet. He really makes an effort to speak with each child to enhance the experience. Some notes: -Be sure to use the restroom before getting on train. They don't have any on the train. -Bundle up and bring a blanket. -Bring water and snacks. -Take pics. -Have fun!

Staff are all super helpful. Views are amazing. Wish there was more dialogue from the engineer with regard to what we might have been seeing on the train ride as there were a few things set up in the woods along the rail path. Definitely spotted Sasquatch a few times. This isn't a stop I would make more than once though unless going with someone who hasn't experienced it before.

As part of our tour, here we are finally getting on a train ride! The organizers of Georgetown was very organized. I can count several window seats have glass shield (windows), most of them are long benches with open windows. It can get very window, and me having short sleeves and a bolero and long pleated skirt, I'm fine. The ride was one hour total. It was amazing to see the various trees, sites, river and around the loop. The outside decor are gearing up for Halloween & the North Pole, I can just imagine how happy the little ones would be, when it's all lighted up!

Cool experience, especially for kids. The train ride itself is fun and scenic, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I was a little confused by the name though. It was not actually a loop when we went. The train went up the mountain and then came back down the same way. Maybe it only runs as a loop at certain times. Still, it is a great attraction in Georgetown and a wholesome outing for families.

Visiting the Georgetown Loop Railroad was the perfect way to give my family (in from Florida) a true "Colorado stamp" during their trip. The ride itself was engaging from start to finish, with plenty of history, scenic views, and that unique charm you only get in the Rockies. This is absolutely a family-friendly activity--everyone in our group had a great time. It's not just a train ride; it's an experience that connects you to Colorado's mining past while giving you unforgettable mountain views. If you're looking for something fun, easy, and memorable to do with family or friends, this is it. I would definitely recommend the Georgetown Loop Railroad to anyone wanting an authentic slice of Colorado.

The Georgetown Loop Railroad Christmas train was just perfect for the small ones (ages 2-8). They saw Santa and put their wish list orders in early. The train ride lasts about an hour; the loop is decorated with festive lights and holiday themed silhouettes along the scenic mountain way. Beverage service was prompt and friendly. We had a great time and would recommend to all those with small children or even for children of all ages.

We came from Florida to visit family and wanted to experience some Colorado history. This tour was great! We did the train ride, mine exploration and panning for gold. The scenery was beautiful, it was educational and a day well spent!

Friendly staff Train trip was short and not much at either station but it was fun trip. We walked around the historic area below. We were glad we paid a little more for the parlor car which came with better seats and lots of free snacks, water and soda. Wine was $11 for a plastic cup full.

Breathtaking views. Wow, how incredible, very nice weather and stunning views! Couldn't really hear the person talking over the speakers since we were seated in an outside cart but it didn't matter since the views were spectacular. We did the fall train I did notice they have some themed ones which sound fun. Would definitely go back and try one of those!

Great experience. Wife and I stopped here heading to Denver and glad we did. So much fun! Was pretty busy so buy tickets online.

What an amazingly beautiful awesome day we had today at Georgetown Loop Railroad and mines. The steam train ride is about 45 minutes to an hour. Then if you buy tickets for the mine tour that's an additional hour. Beware the mine is about 42 degrees all year round and it's so cold in there you can actually see your breath. We had a very funny guide named John David. He totally made our experience in mine a delight. He was full of knowledge about the miners and mine itself. The best part though was when Mark got to actually ride in the steam locomotive to film. This place is a true treasure. Stop by and have some fun!

For families with young kids, the Georgetown Loop at Christmas can become one of your holiday traditions. It's charming, picturesque, and they have amazing Santas every year. Our family has done this for the past three years, and I'm sure we'll continue going for as long as our kids will go. A few tips: - Show up about 10-15 minutes before your time. You need to park, pick up your ticket, and hit the bathroom before you can get on the train. - Ask for a bell in the gift shop when you pick up your tickets. - Book a ticket in one of the better cars. It's worth the difference in price to have assigned seats and snacks for the ride, especially if you have kids. - Get your tickets in August when tickets go on sale and have your pick of any day you want.

Why do they call it a loop?! It was there and back and we saw the same things. Not worth it in our opinion.

Tours times fill up quickly and you can also book tours online. You start the tour by watching a video that gives you a history of the tunnel and mill. The Argo Mill and Tunnel became an international center of milling and tunneling innovation and served for many gold mines in Colorado. Construction of the Argo Tunnel began in 1893 and lasted 10 years until it reached Central City 4.2 miles away. The Argo Mill was a state of the art facility providing the latest technological advancements in milling and situated at the mouth of the mighty tunnel. On January 19th, 1943, a catastrophic flood in the tunnel caused the Argo Mill and Tunnel to cease operations. Then we loaded on a shuttle and took a short ride to the mouth of the Argo Tunnel. We start by picking up safety equipment including a helmet. Walking through the tunnel itself is like going back in time, it's cool, damp, and feels like stepping into another era. Then we moved to the Mill itself that had many original equipment items still on site. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared so many interesting details about how the mine operated, the hardships miners faced, and how important the Argo was to Colorado's development. The guide explained each piece of machinery and the purpose along with an explanation for any missing equipment. You can tell he is passionate about preserving the history. The museum area is well done and adds great context after the tour. After the tour, perused the gift shop and got some great souvineers for 50% off! Highly recommend for families, visitors, or anyone looking to learn something new while exploring the mountains. It's a perfect stop if you're passing through Idaho Springs, especially if you enjoy history, geology, or unique local experiences.

So if you want to learn a little about this town's past and what made it the county seat, you should check it out. It was a very short drive from the Hot Springs, one could walk if desired, and there is a parking lot, so that wasn't an issue. I also happened to be there on a free day, which was handy. However, admission is very affordable if you are there on a normal day - $8 adults / $7 seniors / $5 children (6-17) / under 5 is free as per https://grandcountyhistory.org.
