    Mining nerds!
    Harold V.

We were a group of two families and we were begrudgingly going to do this for the youngest kiddo in the group. What dummies we were. The mine tour was far more interesting and fun than we all could've expected. We loved our incredible tour guide in young Bryan who answered all of our many questions with patience and thoroughness. His knowledge was vast and he had the proper amount of enthusiasm. Afterwards, the panning for gold actually kept the kids intrigued longer than expected. Score!

We had a super fun time here! We tried all of the activities they had to offer and they were all fun! We were the only ones on the train tour that goes to the upper mine and got a great tour with the owner personally. He was knowledgeable and a great guy. The lower mine tour was fun as well and our tour guide was really knowledgeable and could answer all of our questions. The gold panning was fun as well and the girl who showed us how to do it did a good job explaining how to do everything. The train tour is apparently very new and has only been running for a couple weeks. It was worth it and fun. I was worried about it, but it was safe. Be warned that there were a couple huge bumps and the noise of the tracks grinding was super loud. Now for some criticisms. When we arrived all the people seemed super disorganized. When we paid for our tickets, they forgot to give us the stamp and tickets so we didn't know if we needed to get anything so people would know we are doing the tours. We also didn't know about the extra train tour since it wasn't advertised to us when we bought the tickets for only the lower mine and we heard about it from the gold panning girl. When we went back to buy tickets for the train tour it seemed like there was confusion about which tours to put us on and then there seems to be miscommunication with who is going on what tours because of the online iPad system they use. Anyways it all worked out, but the general miscommunication between people could be improved. Also the mine is dog friendly which is a plus. Wish there was a real bathroom and also the chipmunks were annoying. But overall the people were all so friendly and knowledgeable and if you want a fun and unique day activity that is also super close to Idaho Springs I highly recommend this.

We did two different tours. One with part of my Girl Scout troop and the other just the 4 of us on the ore cart tour. We absolutely loved it. Kennedy had all the answers and our mine guide was incredibly patient with 7 girls who to be fair, were not always the politest in the tour. We fed the chipmunks which was the highlight of the tour. They panned for about an hour. We didn't find much but the creek was nice and cool to put toesies in. The owner was friendly and patient with all my stupid questions. Not just that but incredibly accommodating. I have 9 herniated disc's in my back and he let me drive the girls up and take the tour backwards instead of hiking up a short but steep hill. By noon, my back had enough so I cannot stress enough how much I appreciated this seemingly small request. I would absolutely love to go back at some point.

We did the Motherload tour which is 2X tours and the most you can do on-site. The first tour of the Phoenix mine with Zoey was very fun and informational. The second with Julian on the train was hilarious! We hope Comstock opens soon so we can go back and see it. Great family fun.

We did it all with a 4 year old and 3 year old and they loved it. I couldn't believe they made it on each tour and kept interest. Rick the tour guide for the train tour was SO good to my son on his birthday and he even got to "mine" a special rock and keep it. We spent hours here enjoying the space and feeding chipmunks. Just a great day.

So stinking cute!!! My kids loved it. Fun way to learn about gold mining and great way to break up a drive up to the mountains

When you arrive you will be greeted by ground squirrels and chipmunks. They are friendly and the cutest lil guys I've ever seen. The staff is very nice and will check you in and sell you some sunflower seeds. Buy the $1 pack of sunflower seeds to feed them so that you can have fun while waiting for your tour to start. We panned for gold. It was interesting and the water was refreshingly cold. The first tour of the gold mine was a little boring in my opinion (sorry!) very educational but I'm on vaccinations. Then we went on the "train ride" we had to walk up a hill a ways. My husband has a bad knee and we didn't know we would be walking up hill so this was a little challenging. The train ride only took us to the entrance to the next goldmine to continue another walking tour of that mine. The guy that gave that tour was more entertaining. He even took group pictures of folks in the mine, really cool! He didn't have to do that. He was extra. lol. All in all we would have done it over again. The squirrels were my favorite part.

Ruth was the best tour guide. She was very knowledgeable. My family of 5 had a great time with the mine tour and the mine cart tour/lantern tour. And of course my kids loved feeding the chipmunks. If you are considering this experience I would highly recommend it.

Our tour guide, Ronan, was EXCELLENT!! Great mix of information and humor. I'm so inspired to go work the mines. But seriously, it was a really great time, very educational, and a lot of fun. If you take a tour, I highly recommend Ronan if he's working. Three years of good luck from the lucky bucket!

Amazing! My son rated it 4 million out of ten! Such a cool experience. The mine was gorgeous and the tour was so cool. My kids loved the chipmunks the most. Panning for gold was amazing! You're in a real stream looking for gold and other gems. Loved it!

This is a great hidden gem. My husband and I learned so much during the tour. We were greeted by a handful of cute chipmunks. You can purchase some chipmunks food and feed them. Freddy was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our questions. Ron provide easy step by step instructions on how to pan for gold. Unfortunately, we didn't find any. I highly recommend adding this on your list. You won't regret it!

This year, I went early season on Clear Creek and loved it so much I came back late season for Gore Canyon- an adrenaline-packed, fun adventure! The day started with a swim test to make sure everyone was prepared before tackling Class V rapids. (Honestly, if you're not a strong swimmer, this trip isn't for you, they do test your swimming in the rapids and throughout the trip over half of the people across our 5 rafts ended up in the water at some point! Additionally this would be quite the dive into the deep end if you've never rafted before!) The trip was an incredible mix of thrills, skill, and crazy beautiful scenery you would not have guessed was there when you drive into Kremmling. Midway through, we stopped for snacks, and when we wrapped up, the crew served a delicious lunch and cold beers (NA options were there too!) such a nice touch after a big day! What sets Liquid Descent apart is the crew. Every guide I've had has been dedicated to making the trip special. I've talked to them and many of them have said they specifically choose to work here because of the company's extra training and the sense of community. I even met the owner yesterday at Gore Canyon, and you can tell the company's passion for customer experience comes directly from the top. Specifically the last 2 guides I've had, Jordan and Malia have been awesome! Yes, most rafting companies use the same put-in/take-out points and similar gear but the experience is what makes the difference. With Liquid Descent, the guides make sure it's the best it can be and their love for their job ensures you're going to have a great time. I've rafted with other companies in locations where liquid descent isnt and know: the right guide changes everything. If you're looking for an unforgettable rafting trip in Colorado, Liquid Descent is the company to go with!

I was so nervous walking in, but from the moment we arrived, every single staff member made us feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. You could tell he genuinely cares about the rafting community and takes pride in his work and LOVES his Liquid Descent family! Every employee we encountered was friendly, encouraging, and helpful - from getting us fitted with helmets and life jackets to cheering us on as we headed out. As someone who started out nervous, that kind of supportive vibe made a huge difference. They encouraged me, and they helped me push past my comfort zone in the best way possible. What a GREAT memory! We will remember this day not only for the thrill of the rapids, but for the kindness and heart of the people who guided us through it! If you are considering rafting in Colorado, go with Liquid Descent. I'm so glad we did!

Yes! We go down into basements of restaurants and bars, where we typically see the creepiest parts of our tour." Actually we went into 1 lower level area of the Oxford. I guess you could consider it a basement. "Do we go inside any buildings? Yes, we will go inside 3-4 buildings." Wrong. Not including Union Station, which served simply as a meeting location, we went inside of one building. The Oxford. If I had know this, I would not have taken this tour, being that it was about 8 degrees outside. "On this 1 1/2 hour walking ghost tour, you'll experience stops such as: Crawford Hotel. Here we will encounter the legends and tales of ghostly spirits who frighten guests and sometimes come out of the shadows. Delaney's Pub. Down below Denver's bustling cigar bar a determined ghost still frightens workers and refuses to leave. Blake Street Vault. We take you underground to the original bank vault where employees still leave offerings for their resident ghost. Oxford Hotel. Perhaps Denver's most legendary haunted location. We roam the halls to hear stories of historic hotel guests, a haunted lounge fashioned after a famous cruise ship and beware of the odd happenings in the underground restrooms. Union Station. The iconic landmark of Denver recently received a total renovation making it one of the most beautiful train stations in the country, but the renovations also revealed the station's hidden past, full of unsolved murders, untimely deaths and even a persistent "three-fingered hobo." We never stopped at Delaney's Pub. I never heard anything about a three fingered hobo. The only stories I heard about Union Station was a dark shadow in the attic, a ghost soldier, and an "evil steam engine". After the tour, I asked a union station guard about the hauntings. He informed me that some guards have seen a ghost soldier in WW2 garb. But I was having my leg pulled about everything else. 2. There tour guide was subpar: Our tour guide's name was Sarah. She couldn't seem to get the stories straight. She also had the vocabulary and patter of a 13 year old girl, using crutch words such as "UM", "Like", "You know" and "Whatever" far too often. I'm not trying to be cruel, I just think that for 27 dollars, the tour guide could have been a little more professional. 3. The tour was so bad that people kept hanging behind and sneaking off. By the end of the tour we had lost a little less than half of the tour group.

Tours times fill up quickly and you can also book tours online. You start the tour by watching a video that gives you a history of the tunnel and mill. The Argo Mill and Tunnel became an international center of milling and tunneling innovation and served for many gold mines in Colorado. Construction of the Argo Tunnel began in 1893 and lasted 10 years until it reached Central City 4.2 miles away. The Argo Mill was a state of the art facility providing the latest technological advancements in milling and situated at the mouth of the mighty tunnel. On January 19th, 1943, a catastrophic flood in the tunnel caused the Argo Mill and Tunnel to cease operations. Then we loaded on a shuttle and took a short ride to the mouth of the Argo Tunnel. We start by picking up safety equipment including a helmet. Walking through the tunnel itself is like going back in time, it's cool, damp, and feels like stepping into another era. Then we moved to the Mill itself that had many original equipment items still on site. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and shared so many interesting details about how the mine operated, the hardships miners faced, and how important the Argo was to Colorado's development. The guide explained each piece of machinery and the purpose along with an explanation for any missing equipment. You can tell he is passionate about preserving the history.
