After 8 years of living in Colorado, my Mountain Golf experience was limited to a few trips up to the Evergreen City Course. Beautiful as the location is on a crisp morning, it's a bit of a dog track in terms of layout and conditioning. So, I was pretty excited on my recent trip to Denver that we had a tee-time up at the River Course. For a first experience of truly high-end Mountain Golf, this was a winner. Boy did we luck out - it was a perfect Fall day. Weather in the high-50's, Aspens were near peak-color, and the sky was crystal clear. Oh yeah - and I was smoking the ball on the range. I have as close to entirely positive things to say about the course as is possible. Stepping up to the first tee, a nice elevated look down over the fairway, it was clear that this is a beautiful location and a well designed and well maintained track. It's more of a resort-style course, so it is accommodating. While you can get into trouble if you stray too far, the fairways are generous and leave some margin for error. Overall, the course is fair - although there were number of holes I'd like to have a second crack at, since I might play differently with local-knowledge. The greens are fairly quick, and they are challenging. The super-star is the beautiful mountain scenery. The front nine is nice. There are some nice holes along the river, and a couple of cool elevated tee-boxes. #9 is a dramatic downhill Par-3 to end. The back-nine is off the hook. There were at least five awesome tee shots, including the fun (but frustrating) #16, and the magnificent #18 Par-5 to finish. The look down over Lake Dillon towards the range to the West is just beautiful. This is a fun place to play - and yes, the ball does fly at this elevation. If you are looking for a place to come and enjoy yourself, without driving yourself nuts, this is a good course. If you are visiting, this is easy to access, and it's a nice drive up from Denver. I believe that we also took advantage of a deal for Epic Pass (Vail Resorts - Ski Pass) Holders. $69 with a cart. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon.

220$ for this course is absolute robbery. The greens were in tough condition as was the rest of the…read morecourse. But for the price I would avoid this course at all costs. Don't take your friends from out of town or you'll end up looking like and idiot. Saw the beverage cart one time who apparently leaves at noon according to the guy wiping my clubs off. carts have some useless gps added as an afterthought thats better than getting kicked in the shin I guess but nothing like the nice carts you get at a 80$ course.. Terrible carts, tiny range, no beverage cart, possibly more grass in the parking lot than the greens on the front.

Once one of the best maintained mountain courses in Colorado, Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks has…read morefallen by the wayside in not only course conditions but in overall customer service, and it's to such an extent I have a hard time believing they will ever recover from their current situation. They should be ashamed to charge people $125-$365 (depending on the time of year) for the terrible experience they now provide. Something is amiss here- I'm wondering if they're having major financial issues. The person checking us in had a horrible attitude, and the day only got worse from there. The course was in extremely rough shape, and that's being kind- dead spots all over the fairways, rough greens, tee markers missing (which haven't been moved in weeks resulting in massive dirt areas on every tee box), cart paths with large holes- the list just goes on and on. We waited 20 minutes for 4 hot dogs at the turn, (we were the only ones in line) which were ice cold when they finally came, and then the server was indignant when we asked for replacements. I guess the $9.43 they charge for a regular size hot dog doesn't include heat. Pro tip- the bathrooms out on the course are cleaner than the ones in the clubhouse. I could detail numerous other issues we experienced, but I'll stop here as you get the point. Just assume every employee you associate with will have a bad attitude and do nothing to make your experience a positive one. I don't like leaving a bad review, but with so many other great courses in CO which value customers and provide excellent service, I can't in good conscience let anyone spend their hard-earned money at Raven without letting them know what to expect. I have given up on this once great golf course and played my last round there- if you chose to ignore this review and give it a try, don't say you weren't warned.

Only snafu for me was the club rental. They have nice new Calloway rental sets. They asked if I wanted senior clubs and I said yes. Unfortunately the senior clubs were some beat up old Titleists so stay away from those. The rangers did keep play moving which I greatly appreciated. Some people spend too much time and psychic energy bonding with their golf balls and slow down play. You will definitely lose a few balls on this course so just expect it, live with it and keep moving. With the thick vegetation and the meandering creek these balls are gone forever so just let them go. II'd play here again anytime!

So since the twilight was only $100, I decided to fork over the cash and enjoy a round on a beautiful course tucked into the mountains. Course was kept up very well. The views were amazing. Lots of elevation changes. I rented clubs as well and they were very nice (Taylormade). Beer cart lady was on the course. She offered snacks, beers, soft drinks, and liquor. I wish I could play golf on courses like this all the time. I typically play up at Cape Royale on Lake Livingston. No comparison. If you get a chance, spend the money and play golf in Colorado during the summer. All the courses I passed on 71 in the many ski resort towns looked very nice.
