Lots of different activities: tot spot, experiment area, puppet show, acting stage, bear cave, construction zone, wind tunnel, mountain top medical center, bridge to fish off of, light lab and so much more. They sell snacks and drinks there too. You can come and go throughout the day. We took our 1 year old. She had so much fun! I think this place could be good for kids up to 8 yrs old ish. read more

Emma was amazing She was so welcoming and helpful. My nieces, 5 and 9 years old had the best time at the Explorium. It was the perfect combination of hands on science, imaginative play and art. They both loved the helicopter. I feel like not many people know about this hidden gem. read more

Very clean and lots of fun things to do. I took my 5year old, 3 year old, and 10 month old. They all had a blast! Love the baby area. The floors are very clean. I had fun playing with my kids there. My only concern was choking hazards in the big kid area for the baby. I felt like I had to spend most of my time worrying about her finding something to fit inside her mouth. I very much appreciate the warning that there are marbles that sometimes fall on the ground. All in all we had tons of fun and will be back! read more

This place is small but packs a lot in. My child had so much fun and was there for 2 hours. His favorite was the sensory corner which I believe was more for 2 and under but the toys were creative. He also stayed engaged at the mixing colors area. Given the low cost especially for grandparents and all the various activities I had to give it 5. It's too bad no parking lot but we did parking lot and free trolley to get there. Oh and be prepared with socks since no shoes in the place (parents too). read more

I was really impressed with the breadth of activities although most of them were a little old for her being only 18 months old. However it was a great way to give her a little something to do and expend some of her energy. This is a small but fantastic museum. Perfect for a hot, rainy or stormy day, as it's indoors. The place is definitely not comparable in size to anything you would have in a big city. It's mainly one big open space that's separated by themes and target age groups. That said, my 20mo was basically everywhere and did everything, even though there is a tot area. Although the dress up clothes were way too big for him. He obviously didn't care. My kid was entertained for 2 hours. He would have stayed longer if I would have let him but it was time for lunch. I appreciate that you take your shoes off. The floor is nice and clean, which is nice for crawlers also. They do have snacks for sale at reasonable prices, as well as a popcorn machine. My 5 year old played here for 4 hours and wants to go back tomorrow! The staff were friendly and helpful. Shoes off at the entrance, which in my experience is typical of places where littlies play. There's a space specifically for very little ones, and most of the other areas would be tot friendly - we definitely saw under 2s happily playing in almost every area. We took 5 kids to the MTCM ranging in age from 2-12. Plus 7 adults. We all had a wonderful time and felt like it was a good value. Even the adults played! The only two thing we did not enjoy while visiting he MTCM was the lack of air flow on the hot summer day and the individual running the front desk. The person was generally kind and informative however this person was a bit too much of a stickler on rules. Especially for a children's museum. A bit too harsh on the adults and kids for not messing with the remote controlled cars. The cars needed constant hand corrections to work properly. We were also constantly reminded to keep things tidy. That could have been done in a better way. I am a person who always picks up after myself and my children but we were reminded to do so several times while visiting the museum. We traveled here from Keystone (20 min drive). Considering it's the *only* place I could find to take a toddler, it's not the worst place ever... but it certainly isn't the best. Admission was $8 for my 1.5 year old and $6 for me, which wouldn't have been high if there was enough to keep her entertained for more than 15 minutes! This is in the village area of Breckenridge, so don't expect to park close and pop in with your kids- you'll be finding parking with the skiers and hiking with your kid. We took our almost-2-year-old to this wonderful little place and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I would describe this museum as more of an interactive children's educational play center, and tons of fun for kids. Probably best for toddlers through early grade school ages. (18 months to 6 or 7 years old says my wife.) The museum is laid out in different sections. The ones I remember are a construction zone with things like a really cool constructor set, train sets, marble roller coaster things (not sure what to call those). They also had an arts/crafts zone, a "bear cave", a water/snow table, a "wonder lab" (basically a small room of simple science experiments), and a "studio imagination" where kids could dress up in costumes like they're part of a studio production, some medical stuff, a toddler play area (our toddler couldn't have cared less about that zone), and of course an animal exhibit. My descriptions may not be doing this place justice, so be sure to check out their web site for yourself. My only complaint with the place is that they charge for both adults and children, and would have preferred they just charge per child. Prices weren't terrible, $7 per kid and $5 per adult, but paying a total of $17 did feel a little steep to spend an hour or so playing with our toddler, since we've been to other places that cost us less than half of that. It is a mountain resort town, though, and higher costs should be expected. Cost not withstanding, it really is a great place to take your kids, so check it out if you're looking for something fun to do with your kids in downtown Breckenridge for an hour or so. read more

Took my 4 year old twins today and they had a blast. They were playing with a group of probably 7 kids, including them, just bouncing back and forth between the costume area, bear cave, helicopter, and doctor station. Kept all the kids occupied for about 2 hours, amazingly without any fighting. Definitely worth the money. We were probably there for about 3.5 hours total. Tip, if grandparents are available they get in for free so you could save a little money. Also I was a little worried about staff based on a couple other reviews, but I thought the lady at the desk seemed very nice. This is a great place to go spend the morning with the kids if you're not on the slopes. I've taken my almost two year old on a few occasions and he really enjoys it. The building was a lot smaller than I initially expected but still fun. I agree with other reviewers this was more like a large play area for kids rather than a "children's museum" which I honestly didn't mind, it kept my son busy. As a large play area, I don't like the fact adults are charged as well. I've never spent more than two hours tops in here. There are different sections throughout the building including a younger toddler play area with toy trucks and blocks, a medical section with doctor toys and a wooden helicopter the kids can sit in, a bear cave with teddy bears, a dress up section with a stage and video screen the kids can be viewed on, an arts and crafts section and a fishing section with toy fishing poles. Previous reviews are all correct. The lady that works there brings her kid who has full run of the place. Also, she does things and brings other kids along with her that I would never allow my kids to do (like jumping off the small slide in the tot area). It is a play area with interactions/dress-up/science/outdoors/art and not a museum. It's our second time here and I think that he's about outgrown it at age 5. The price was a bit high too considering you have to hover over your kids to make sure they don't make a mess, clean up the mess and are not too loud. Why do I as a parent have to pay to come in? It's a catch 22 because I can't leave him but I have to pay just to facilitate all the "exhibits" and clean up. There's no staff around interacting with kids. I'm paying them to let me in so I can run the show. It could be more successful if staff was involved, putting on shows, facilitating learning. Otherwise you are just a receptionist at a desk at a play area just like monkey bizness or jumpoline, calling the place a museum. read more

This effectively forced most of the kids and parents to leave early and stop playing, especially because she kept repeating this every few minutes. I, as an adult, not only has to pay for my children's entry, but I also have to pay to watch my own kids?!?!?! That's a little bit messed up if you ask me, for something which is an over glorified day care set up (without the "care"). We have however, gone to the museum about once or twice a year over the last 5 years, as my kids do enjoy going there and it's better than sitting at the house watching TV when the weather is poor. On more occasions than not, the front desk staff has been quite unfriendly and rude (as a previous poster also mentioned). Overall, this is a fun place for the kids. It is not really a museum, but is rather an interactive kids play center. It is a big pricy, since they charge for both adults and children, unlike most play areas like this. That said, my daughter loves it there and wants to go back time after time. They have a science center, where they can play with lights, weights and water with dye. They have another dress up area, a play center with puppets, craft area and trains area. The only downside (other than price) was the extreme rudeness of the guy working the front desk. Granted, he might have been high instead of rude, but it certainly came across as rudeness. Sometimes there isn't much to do with little kids in Breck... Mountain top Children's Museum is small, but there are plenty of things to do to entertain your little one for a few hours. This place runs camps for kids in the summer and is a part of our community, so supporting them is worthwhile. As a local of Breckenridge, I definitely recommend this place. read more

We were visiting for the weekend and looking for activities to do with our 18 month and 3 year old boys. This was very close to our lodging, so we planned a visit (open Fri-to Mon). As other reviewers mentioned, not a museum as much as an play center specific to certain ideas (?), i.e. dress-up station, medical corner, fishing bridge, science lab. However, it was perfect for us! We knew stuff they would exactly love like home (trains, puzzles) and stuff we hadn't tried out before (the bean bucket, magnet tiles). The admission also includes adults, which we thought was a little steep. However, this is a non-profit and between proximity to our hotel and the sobbing when we left, small price to pay for a good time. Agreed -- more of a play area than a museum. This place was so much work keeping my kids in line that they should have paid ME my $5 entrance fee. Seriously, to make adults pay is just ridiculous. And why was it so hard to keep my kids in line? First, there are choking hazards everywhere. My 18 month old was at risk here. Marbles, pinto beans, small toys, small craft supplies, etc... Then there are some really neat boxes of materials that need to be kept in the box and the things around it need to be kept out -- sand in one, snow in another, pinto beans in another. Hard for a 3 year old sometimes to grasp these rules. Oh, and pinto beans in the baby area mind you. So your kid spills them all over and you better clean them up or tiny babies are going to eat them! Frustrating! And the most frustrating thing of all is the setup in the middle of toys to buy. For an 18 month old, they just don't understand which toys you can play with and which are for sale. I hate it when places set you up to make purchases like that (which we did not). So for older kids, sure, this is a pricey but good place to go as there aren't a lot of other options like this. For the smaller kids that don't understand rules yet or for those you still have to worry about putting everything in their mouth, this just isn't the place as much as I wanted it to be. read more

Although my kids enjoyed it, I agree with the other reviewers, this wasn't a museum but a play area....but the worst part was the lady managing the front who was not pleasant at all; in fact I would call her rude! She didn't do anything but look at her computer and tell us what we should be doing, such as that the adults were expected to clean up after our child(ren). Then she then took a table out from under us while were playing with the marble run; so she could turn it over and sand it (huh?). I don't get why the lady works at a kids place if she doesn't care to be involved at all or even moreso why the owner has people like that managing the business (I sure hope she wasn't the owner!!). I have had two experiences with staff members who were perfectly nice, but this last one was terrible. She hovered the whole time, grabbed things out of my kids' hands, made up irrational rules, and completely lost it at the end when we were leaving, accusing us of not having picked up a mess that we didn't make. Even if we had made it - I certainly did not pay this much money to get angrily reprimanded because toddlers *gasp* made a mess of toys. What a completely unprofessional way to handle the situation. She made it such a stressful experience - not fun for me or my kids. I think we will be hitting the toy store in town that has a play area for kids, or the local library that has an indoor play area. I am glad we did not listen to the reviews here because this place is wonderful if you are traveling with kids. Sure, it isn't as large as some other children's museums but there is plenty to do. We took my 3 & 4 year olds today and I had to drag them away after 2.5 hours because I wanted lunch. The kids would have stayed all day and found plenty to do. For those who say it isn't a museum just an interactive play area, I recommend looking into what a children's museum is - it is an interactive play area set up for kids to learn through play. That is exactly what happens here. There is a doctors office, a dress up area, a bear cave, a construction zone, marble runs, a lab for experimenting, art supplies and more. And for those stuck on the idea of a "museum" there are skulls and antlers to feel with info about the animals and other more museumy type things. But the main idea is learning through play and this is a great space for that. The staff was very friendly while we were there even willing to give me a local opinion about a couple kid activities. We have been to many many kids museums (Boston, Denver, Saratoga Springs NY, Poughkeepsie NY, Holoyoke MA, and more) and found this museum small but quality. I had no problem playing $24 for our family of four to spend over 2 hours playing. read more

Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter totally enjoyed our visit and we agree that it is more of a hands on activity center than a museum. The price was reasonable for the 4 hours that we spent there. However, I was surprised that there was only one staff person to both manage the door and take care of any problems that arise in the entire area. This is totally inadequate. I also did not like the sales area in the center where children to not understand that these items are not to play with. I agree that the staff person was not very friendly but objected to items being removed temporarily from a crowded space, or "incorrect" play with the electric trucks that were more "hands off" than hands on. A second staff person to walk around in a friendly manner to supervise and assist adults and children would have been a great help. Also, there were a great many items hazardous to any children who still put items in their mouths: this should be written and handed out to adults and the baby area should be pointed out and clearly separated from the other areas and older children. read more

As others have stated, the price of this place is steep for what you get. The women in charge was really rude too. I get it is a Children's Play-space, so if you are going to bring your child to work this would be a more understandable place to do such a thing. As parents, we know what kind of kid we have and this one was extremely disrespectful to all the kids around her. The employee did not once watch her daughter or intervene. Just one thought, if your kid sucks maybe you shouldn't bring them to work. I would almost give the employee a break if she was actually working too, but instead she just stared at her phone or computer. When she did get up, she would walk into the different play areas and tell parents to clean up while their kids were still playing with the toys that the employee was referencing to clean up. Unless you are climbing the walls of your place and need an escape for an hour, I would not go here. For the same kind of money, I would go to the Breck or Silverthorne Rec center. read more
