I drove my 6 year old from Aurora to Lafayette to visit The Wow! Children's Museum (one hour drive) so we could check it out! Her school was closed on a Friday... and the museum was bustling! There's certainly a lot going on in a fairly small space -- which was impressive! She enjoyed the doctor's clinic and dark room (writing her name on the light up wall) the most. Everything else she ran through quickly: big boat/ship, chair pulley, blowing scarves, drawing/coloring, pedaling, marbles, etc. Gave me the sad realization that she's starting to be too old for these types of places. She was older than the majority of the kids there. The eating area had a handful of tables/seats that were packed/full the entire time. Pretty dirty and didn't really see staff cleaning or helping, except checking in people. We bought snacks/juice from the vending machine and just tried to kill some time before heading back. We were there for about 90 minutes and I tried to play with her and engage her as much as I could. We spent some time in the private room building a house out of blocks. I really appreciated all of the different spaces (including a private room to play without all the noise). While I did check out the baby area (under age 3) to see if I would perhaps come back with my younger two kids, the answer was no. Unfortunately not worth the trek through Denver traffic... Maybe if we lived closer.

Wow! Some of the stuff was not working, and the place was packed to the gills with for the most part unsupervised children. Still, there was a good bit of fun and somewhat educational activities, and despite the slight chaos, I don't recall seeing anyone (child or otherwise) sobbing hysterically. I do wish there was a little more to do, given the price. We arrived shortly after they opened, so it was quite quiet when we got there. Partly because of this, we knocked out every activity within about 30 minutes, and from there it got pretty redundant and boring for our 3.5 year old quickly. I believe this would have been better if we had come with a small group of friends so that the kids could interact together.

    Big bubbles!

Needed a place to have fun for a few hours. Took my granddaughter (5yr) with my son and husband. It was $13 for her and $7 for each adult. We all interacted with her throughout the area. We were there for 3 hours and she wasn't ready to leave. Spent most of her time running the bank and the cash register but loved the big bubble and learning about the body parts.

There are two glaring things though that make me hesitate to ever want to make a second trip. One is the cafe. I'm not expecting the bougie majesty like you get at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but this is in Denver. I'd consider us a pretty cosmopoliton city & this being THE Children's Museum for CO (since it's in our capitol), it should have a proper quick service option. Cold food options, fine, but a microwave for hot options? So disappointing. I noticed a lot of space dedicated to private parties, etc. Can we not junk that in favor of a real sit down spot? The worst thing though was the behavior of the older children that make the museum unusable in certain areas. Seemed to specficially be the kids on field trips. My nearly 2 year old loves a ball so you can imagine his delight in discovering the "Kinetics!" area. Despite there being what seems like a ton of balls, a bunch of unruly older children have managed to hoard them to where even adults can't wrangle one measly ball for their kid to hold. Once my poor son managed to acquire one, he ran off to a quiet corner & refused to let me show him how the exhibit worked with the tubes, etc. because he was too concerned about the ball being taken from him. Well, he was right to be concerned as these selfish older children came over & tried to take the ball from him despite them hoarding the entire room's balls insisting that they need that one too. My husband's head nearly exploded. The Bloom room is really the only safe haven for any kid let alone the young ones but my son will age out soon and then what? He's 99 percentile so even though he's one, he's already the size of a four year old but he still gets run over in rooms that are supposed to be for "all ages." Once my son ages out of the Bloom room there really is no incentive for us to come back here as the experience is way too violent, overstimulating, & a bully's playground. Similar instances happened in the Bubble room & the Market as well with different gangs of field trippers. We came on what felt like a very average day crowd wise (Thurs 9-11:30AM) so I can't imagine how awful it would be on a busier day. Really a shame that poorly parented/chaperoned kids have to ruin the experience of so many other children as I've seen multiple other reviews complain about the same thing. I should have take them more seriously.

They have a good size Kid Zone. Then they have the history of Fort Collins. Then, I believe, they have a rotating exhibit. At the time was all about Skin. On humans and animals. It was fascinating. Even without it though, it's a great price for what you get! There is so much to do and explore here! The music section is definitely a favorite as you get to test out so many instruments! Everything was well maintained (minus one or two exhibits that weren't functioning at the time). The toddler area is great for the little ones to be separate. Personally, I was absolutely stoked for the shadow wall - it's just a fun/silly thing to do. When we ventured upstairs we didn't realize there was a theater until a staff member asked if we were there to see the show. Since we had to get going, I asked if I could peak in real quick to check it out and he was totally fine with it. It looks so cool! We will definitely be back to catch a show in the future.

They also have an annual Day of the Dead exhibit created by community members and local artists. There is a permanent exhibit called 'Front Range Rising' which discusses the history of Longmont. You can see many of these past exhibits in a virtual tour on their website! In addition to the exhibits, there are movies, classes, performances and walking tours. The classes and movies relate in some way to the art exhibits. For example, an exhibition called 'Build: Design & Create with LEGO' was connected with the short films created by the legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. During the Picasso exhibit you were able to take a class to learn how to create a Picasso style portrait. A recent update as of July 2025 is that the galleries will be closed until Fall 2026 while the Longmont Museum has a major expansion of its building. There will be even more galleries and a larger children's area! While the galleries will be closed they are still planning to have events in the auditorium and courtyard. They will also continue their educational programs.
