After getting several quotes, we chose Georgetown Fence & Deck to install an ornamental metal fence at our new home. Pricing was similar to another vendor, but Georgetown won out because they seemed better equipped to work with our restrictive HOA to navigate approval for a puppy picket fence. Their responsiveness and ability to fast-track paperwork gave us confidence--and they did deliver on that. We wanted a rackable puppy picket design, which most companies couldn't accommodate. After some searching, Ken (the owner) located a sample panel that seemed perfect. He showed it to us in person and said he could weld a fence to of that type for a small surcharge. We signed, paid a 50% deposit, calendared a date, and believed we were set. The very next day after paying our deposit, Ken informed us the sample panel was unavailable nationwide, with no new stock for months. Already under contract with him and having to let our dogs out on leash for a month, we reluctantly settled for his only other option: a standard rackable fence with puppy mesh. Ken did reduce the price to reflect the substitute panels, but charged full price for the puppy mesh. Given the frustration of losing out on the fence we'd waited for, comping or at least discounting the puppy mesh would have shown goodwill. Instead, we paid for something less than what we bargained for; a compromised design that's a challenge for yardwork. Our neighbors (also Ken's customers) have shared their displeasure with weed-eating their side of the puppy mesh with us on more than one occasion. To their credit, our installation went smoothly without a hitch and on time. Georgetown uses a blend of Portland and quick-set cement so the job is done in a single day. That worked for us, though some might prefer posts to set up overnight. By mid-afternoon, our fence was in place. Still, the end product was not without flaws. The fence looks good from a distance, but, up close, some welds are inconsistent, and a few welds are incomplete with visible holes. The gate hardware was bare minimum--no self-closing hinges, no key-locking latch. When I later asked about upgrading the gate hardware at my expense, Ken dismissed it as no longer possible and told me I didn't need it. Meanwhile, our neighbor's installer provided higher-quality hardware as standard. This was our first metal fence, and we relied heavily on Ken and his experience for guidance. In hindsight, it felt like we weren't offered the best options. There were also issues with our sprinkler system made obvious by the fence installation. Ken hinted before the contract that he could help if our builder misplaced irrigation heads relative to the property line, which happens often. Sure enough, our builder's irrigator missed the property line on several heads. When I called, Ken's only suggestion was to "call the builder yourself." It all worked out in the end, but the help implied up front was ultimately not what we would have hoped. After two months, rust was already showing at several welds. Nothing catastrophic, but disappointing because that means painting over the weld spots was inconsistent. I'll just touch it up myself rather than engage in another conversation. Maintenance is on me, sure, but after only three months? In the end, Georgetown delivered a decent fence at a fair price--just not the one we contracted or the quality expected. Scheduling was quick, and installation was efficient. However, the hit-or-miss welding and paint quality, budget-grade hardware, and limited assistance on sprinkler issues left us underwhelmed. Even their HOA connections ended up moot since the fence they ultimately installed didn't require pre-approval. And while Ken did adjust our project total to reflect materials actually used when the original materials fell through, paying full price for the less desirable puppy mesh solution we never wanted left us with a bad taste. Would I say don't use Georgetown Fence & Deck? No--they're competent, reliable, and can get the basic job done. But if you do, no matter who you go with: 1. Get written confirmation the materials you want are in stock before paying a deposit. 2. Do your research and nail down every detail up front in writing. Don't assume options will be available later. 3. Get promises in writing and in your contract. In short, for a functional standard metal fence installed quickly at a reasonable cost Georgetown Fence & Deck is fine. Look elsewhere if you desire higher quality workmanship or more flexibility in design and feature choices. read more

Buyer Beware So I tried to get a quote for a fairly large project, the folks were ontime and knew the business. I had a couple of things I told them I wanted to see in their quote: as all the people they use are independent contractors I told them I need to get material and labor releases from all participants and a guarantee that no illegal immigrants will be on my property. An hour later I got a call from the owner saying he not going to bid on the job because of my demands. FYI: if you dont get releases from everyone involved if they dont get paid they can put a LIEN on your property, get it. Doesnt matter who you do business with get the material and labor releases and if they balk, there's a reason why, move on. You're Welcome Ken's (the owner) response is mostly half truths and misdirection, example: at the start he said he hung up on me and at the end he said I hung up on him. I worked with Ashley on getting a quote. She was prompt to answer any questions I had and explain to me my options. We had to wait until we were finished with some other construction before we could do the fence and Ken and Ashley were very helpful and worked with us about shifting the schedule to accommodate our construction. Once we were ready to go the crew came out and were professional and helpful talking about the project. They got right to work and even though Ken told me it would only take two days I didn't believe it could be done that quickly. I requested an estimate via their website. After an appointment was made a salesman, I think Steve, showed up. The scope of work was described in the request. Steve wasn't very pleasant but we over looked his unfriendly attitude. We explained we wanted to use composite materials to replace our deck. He told us we needed to use cedar. We explained we wanted no maintenance. Everything we requested was shot down. It was going to be his way or the highway! He took measurements and said to give him 3 days. Never heard back from him. It's been probably a month now and our project was completed by someone who was willing to listen to our needs and we have a new composition deck that will require no maintenance. SAVE YOURSELF SOME TIME AND MONEY AND GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY. I like doing business with local people and I have been in sales and service for the past 30 years. On 12-7-2021 Katie came out to give me a quote on a iron fence, she listened to what I want but when asked her opinion, it was whatever. Like really i don't build fences everyday so I really wanted some guidance there. I did receive my quote as promised on 12-9-2021 however, it did not include the rock work to go with the fence. I emailed her and ask about that and was she was still waiting for the rock guy to back to her. Mind you there qoute was only good for 7 days. So after 6 days (12-15-2021) on 12-17-2021 she responded she was still waiting on the rock cost. So on 1-3-2022 and no word from her or the company, I decide to get another quote so I would have an idea of what I was like at for the cost. The other locally owned company was more than $2,500 less for the same fence and it was only a 100 foot fence. it has nothing to do with the money but, if you don't mine just till me . I prefer doing business locally people but , you have to want to work for it. After all I took a day off of work so could be there when Katie came out to measure thing. Good service, communication could use some work. Writing this review ~30 days after work completion. When I got my house inspected, the inspector found a post-tension cable that had become exposed as a result of the plaster layer around the foundation crumbling away (if you don't know why this is bad, just Google "post-tension cable failure"). The builder (Meritage) didn't cover this under structural warranty. I didn't think it was a big deal since it was just one cable, just slap some hydraulic cement in there, but when I took a closer look, I saw multiple exposed cables and mysterious rust stains all around the foundation. Turns out the plaster layer is actually hollow and since it was crumbling it was no longer watertight (if it ever was in the first place). Replacing this layer was way beyond a handyman's scope, so I asked several concrete companies for a quote. Georgetown Fence & Deck were the only ones to reply and actually send someone out to take a look so that made picking a vendor pretty easy. The work duration was right in line with their estimate, and they did a better, neater job than the builder. It was not cheap by any means, but it's cheaper than foundation repair (and/or floor repair if the cable decides it wants to go up when it snaps rather than out). My main complaints are that it took a little while to actually get a quote, I had to remind them about it, and their payment methods are a bit inconvenient. I will update this review in eleven months once their warranty is up if anything changes, and again in nine years (if I remember and if Yelp allows it) to compare with Meritage's workmanship. read more

I had high hopes. The products they install are good, but the customer service and followup is poor. We had out fence installed about 5 years ago. We did get the hard sell, and the overstocked inventory sell. Fine, I've been in sales and service for my entire life, I'll go with whatever story and compare prices at the end. Turns out the overstocked inventory story was real, and I got a good price. That is when the "good" stopped in this deal. Half way during the install on 1 acre of land, I was asked for an intermediate payment. "I have to pay my guys" Wow. Giant red flag. But they already had half my fence in the ground, so it's not like I could turn around. Tuens out I had my fence installed the exact week the company was being sold, or some story like that. Fast Forward a few years and we need to finish up some work... install a hydraulic gate, etc.. They have no problem coming out, giving me a quote, and doing the work. Since that has gone in, we've needed some follow up attention and small details fixed. 1: It's a challenge to get them out to look. 2: Once I've got them out here, I'm told "If it's not a minimum of $1,000, we won't work on it." I looked him straight in the eye and said "You installed the entire fence on this property, and you're telling me you won't come out and do some fill in and touch up work?" Mind you, this included fixing a crappy weld from the original install. He said he would call me back with a quote, and never did. Excellent experience! We have a modern house and wanted a steel fence that would honor the architecture. I was worried about whether someone could take my unique design and actually bring it to life. My design required them to tediously weld 4x4" square cattle panel in the center of 2x2" square tubing (because I didn't want a front and back to the fence). Most steel fence is pipe fence with the cattle panel or wire tack welded to the back. "Normal" metal fence is fast and requires a lot less accuracy. Ours required a lot of attention to detail. And they cared about my vision for this fence every step of the way. Every person we interacted with was fantastic. Our sales person was a gem. The owners are friendly, reasonable, and easy to work with. The crew was awesome. Good listeners - understood what I cared about before starting. They also involved me at critical decisions that would change the aesthetics of the fence. I am as pleased as it gets. These guys did an amazing job from start to finish. I had them do a large stone patio in my yard and while they weren't the cheapest they weren't the most expensive bid. They also went the extra mile in the proposal and sent me a 3D rendering of my yard with what they had planned. I had a few changes and they sent those with no problem. It was nice having a visual to know exactly what they would do. When it came time for install they were very fast and clean and the whole thing was done in about 3 days. We contracted with Kevin, owner of Georgetown Fence and Deck, to have a new deck built. Kevin is a salesman and will tell you anything to get the job. Once he has a contract he subcontracts the work. It was a struggle throughout the process. The bid did not include structural components and when pressed for details the deck was going to be built with minimal strength. They didn't offer any help with gravel under the deck or the sprinkler system. Construction was slow with additional charges as the project proceeded. When a dispute arose Kevin immediately threatened legal action and to place a lean on the our home rather than try and work out a solution. Stay away from this contractor. read more

Summary: Good, fast construction at a fair price. Note: Formerly "Dave's Fence." Dave apparently sold the business to Kevin & Cheryl Clark and retired to Panama. A recent storm knocked over a large section of our 18-year old privacy fence. I called and spoke with Cheryl the next afternoon, and Kevin arrived to take measurements and give me a quote less than two hours after I called. His initial quote was more than I was willing to pay, but also specified a heavier-duty fence than I had in mind, so we easily reached an agreement for a slightly different design that fit my budget and he left with a 50% deposit. A crew of workers arrived the following morning before 8 a.m. They got the remains of the old fence removed and the new posts set in concrete before breaking for lunch and to let the concrete begin to cure, then hung the rails, picket, and gate in the afternoon. All told, they replaced just under 100 feet of 6-foot privacy fence in about ten hours; not bad! The quality of the work was very good (the fence is straight, posts are vertical, and rails slope evenly along the full length) except for a few pickets in one corner being cut too high above the ground, leaving too large a gap under the fence. I pointed this out to Kevin when he came by to collect the balance due, and he had a worker out to replace those pickets the following day. read more

These guys are awesome. I had the back and fronts of a 6ft privacy fence replaced so it was a smaller job. I got 2 other quotes. One used different materials and was about $60 less and one used the same materials and came in at $500 more which I talked to down to $300 more. They were able to start in a reasonable amount of time vs some of their competition. They also removed small trees and shrubs which has grown between my fence and the neighbor's back fence. When the two common sides I share with the neighbors need to be replaced, I won't hesitate to call them again. In spite of the older negative reviews, we had a wonderful experience. read more

Really sad to write a poor review of this company on Yelp. We've not had the experience we hoped for. This company was $2000 more than our lowest bid. While they were not the most expensive quote, they were still pretty high. Ultimately decided we'd try them based off their Yelp reviews. First time I called, they did not respond, but the 2nd attempt a lady called back and scheduled an estimate right away. They were on time, and seemed top-quality. 1. No call, no show on the day they were supposed to start work. We proactively contacted them the day before to confirm, and they said the might start later in the morning than originally scheduled, but they should be there before lunch. By mid-afternoon, there was still no crew, and after several attempted calls to the sales man & office, we finally received confirmation (around dinnertime) that they would be out the next morning. We understand things get behind, but we took off work, and communication would have been helpful. 2. At our request, Taylor came out to investigate the job and a few of our complaints. At the time, he acknowledged the problems and said the would work to fix it. He also said it would be a couple of weeks before they could come back out. We told him we were completely flexible on the date/time. Here we are a few weeks later and still no call/no email to schedule a time. I understand it was hot & the contractors were trying to get it finished quickly, but a rushed job is not the same as a quality job. Our gate handles are upside down (one latch is backwards from the other two), there are several split boards ...and more frustrating is that the fence boards were installed on one side with a noticeable slant. Taylor was originally pretty great about calling back and working with us, but I assume now they are just pretty distracted with other jobs. May update this review at a later time if we are able to get the remaining issues resolved. Not certain that will happen at this point without extra effort on my part. Only real pro thus far is ... when they finally showed up, they got it all done in one day. At a glance, if you don't look close, it looks nice and new. They have different crews I'm sure, and if they were in less of a hurry, they may not have messed a few parts. I love speedy work, but again quality is also pretty important for things like this. Contacted Georgetown Fence and Deck - They gave me an estimate on a custom fence that was too expensive, so I opted for a standard fence and the results are great. I hired Georgetown Fence and Deck to build us a new fence and expand our deck. The deck went wonderful and looks even better. However, the fence has been a nightmare. Kevin does not back up his product. I was told even if a board is damaged if it doesn't face my yard they will not replace it. A post that is split, (all the way down) I was told that's just the way it is, not going to replace. No respect for my property, damaged my sewage drain and denied it. Blamed my yard guy! We had a vehicle skid off the highway and knock down part of our fence at my business in Georgetown so I was working with an insurance company and had to get multiple quotes. First and foremost, I was actually able to talk to a real person who scheduled an estimate within a couple days at Georgetown Fence & Deck. I called at least a dozen other companies in the area and mostly got a cellphone voicemail recording. When I finally got another quote from a different company, it was 20% higher. As soon as I gave Georgetown Fence & Deck the go ahead, they began work as soon as weather permitted. From the initial estimate performed by John, the owner Ken keeping in contact by email, and the team that performed the work...I was provided updates of what was going to happen next. This Yelp is about a month overdue! Every time I pass by this business I remind myself to write a review that is so well deserved! We just recently moved so things have been busy but here it is! My husband had gotten several quotes for our fence and Kevin's was not only the least expensive one but he was able to start the job immediately which we needed. Kevin showed up at our home the day we were doing our inspection to give us a quote. He was very nice and we felt comfortable with him from the start. We went into his business, put half down prior to him starting job. Without me knowing how great of a deal we were getting I ask my typical "can we get a military discount?" My husband was kicking me with his combat boot under the desk!! Ha! But Kevin still honored that and knocked some money off :) I have no shame ;) We met his sweet wife and she was already working on scheduling a crew to come out ASAP and start the job. The crew showed up on schedule every day and did an awesome job! We are very happy with our fence! All of our neighbors stop and comment on it. Everyone wants one like ours. We wish our HOA would let us hang a sign saying who installed it. We did have an issue with a sprinkler and called Kevin and he sent a guy over and took care of it.
