An IG content creator recently said George's was there favorite pizza in Hartford. I'd driven by George's but had never been. So I recently ordered a medium pizza with green peppers. For me, the strength was the cheese. It was very melted and there was plenty of it. The chopped green peppers were good. The crust was unique. It seemed like it should have been Greek style, and it was similar, but it was lighter and less crunchy. Reviewer Don P did a deep drive on the crust style in his review, and I'm going to defer to his detailed analysis. The crust was pretty good, but it wasn't up there with my favorite styles. My least favorite part of the pizza was the sauce. It wasn't bad. It just didn't pop for me flavor-wise like my favorite sauces. It was kind of mild and didn't take much of a stand in any direction. Had dinner with the husband on Saturday. The staff were attentive, the food was good. A bit noisy after a group came in but overall a good date night. We had placed our orders and mine came with a salad, since we had ordered a salad as a starter, I asked the young man if he can put it in a container I would take it home. When I got home I put salad in the fridge, the next day I took it out to have it for lunch. When I opened the container it was saturated with dressing. He didn't put the dressing in a container. Instead the dressing saturated the salad making it inedible since it was soggy ‍. Next time I will make sure to request dressing on the side or no dressing if taking home with me. read more

I remember this place as a kid when it was located right across the street where Sully's used to be, I'd go here with my friends and family and we'd stuff our faces. I went here last week and even though everything changed in the old neighborhood I'm very happy the quality of the food hasn't changed a bit! Driving through to get to Salem and we end up stopping here. Well, husband just pulled in on a whim because 3 other restaurants we went into were take out only. I'm thinking ugh, pizza again. Husband is killing me with all this pizza we've been eating lately. It's okay, I haven't had pizza in Connecticut. Haha. George's wasn't busy at all, but the parking lot was full. They have a variety on their menu. Kids and husband got pizza. I got a grinder. A grinder automatically takes me to tiktok and the grinder sandwich or a grinder for breaking up certain things..yeah. This was just a regular ol sub. I guess they call a sub grinders in these parts. So I got the cold cut grinder. It came with ham, salami, pepperoni, lettuce, tomato, onion, provolone cheese, and peppers. It's really big, you could share it. The bread was fresh. The meat tasted fresh. Everything on the sandwich just tasted fresh. It was a really good sandwich. The pizzas were half cheese, and half steak, the other was mushroom and pepperoni. This was probably one of my favorite pizzas I've had. At least in my top 10. It was thick, but not crispy or floppy. It wasn't greasy. I don't know how to describe it. The biggest compliment I can give is that this is a Hartford classic. I learned the value of Greek style pizza by eating here. Groves has been around since I was young and maintained the quality that they had when I was young. I can't say the same for many pizza places I'd go to in my youth the fact that they still this good after this long tells you what you need to know. We got the breaded chicken grinder with bacon and the chicken breast sandwich. The chicken breast sandwich was cooked well, but had zero sauce or mayo or anything which was strange. I had to asd my own mayo and sauce at home. After that, it tasted fine. No complaints. Vegetables were fresh. The grinder was mediocre. The bread was boring, the chicken was well cooked, but there wasn't enough crispness. There also wasn't any sauce which was disappointing. Adding the bacon saved it in terms of flavor. I love George's! Usually go there on Fridays with a group of 5+. The staff is super friendly, the servers remembers our drinks orders and I love that. The house salad is pretty good. I have a lot of their menu items and I haven't had something I wouldn't order again. The food is great and very affordable. They just updated their dining room with some fresh paint and new tables and it looks really nice. I been there so many times that I am shocked that it took me this long to give them a review. If you haven't been you definitely try it for your self. I love the homey feel to it. From sub to pizza to burger to soup they have it. George's Pizza House is right around the corner from where my wife works, so I did a takeout order and brought her lunch today. Ordered a small ham pizza and the fried chicken dinner (included FF, salad & bread). Total was $18.82 Pizza was Greek style, but we thought it was better than your typical Greek pizza -- crust was not dry, and the pizza was not greasy. I agree with Don P's assessment, this is "very good Greek pizza". The fried chicken was not so good though. The coating tasted sweet, it had a sugary glaze on it. Strange, we've never tasted fried chicken quite like it. Not good, wouldn't recommend it. Fries were a bit soggy also, but this is common when they are transported in a takeout container. The people working at George's Pizza House were extremely friendly. The women working the counter gave me a sample of the chicken parm for my wife to try also. We would certainly give them another go in the future, when I picked up the menu from the counter, I did notice it was more extensive than the online menu. So we went to George's. And haven't been here since back in 2018. Yes, it's been that long. I had ordered the hot turkey grinder with lettuce, tomato and mayo. OMG! It brought back memories. So, here is a little story. My husband is from CT and I was a navy brat. We met in the military. So, when it came time to get out and figure out where to reside. I decided to choose to move to CT. It was all due to food. That was my motivation for moving here. The food in CT is so diverse you don't get this in most states. So, when we first go married and would come to CT to see his family. He brought me to George's the first time and this hot turkey grinder was so BOMB! I couldn't get enough. Every time after when we would come to CT this is the first stop we would go to. George's is what nailed it. I wanted more. And having it again yesterday 12/20/22 they did not disappoint. It is still that good. Also, we had ordered two pizzas one large cheese pizza and one large pepperoni, sausage, hamburger and mushroom pizza. It was both on point too. I can't tell you guys how good their food is. If you haven't tried them you definitely need too. Sorry, we didn't take any pictures because I did only order it to go. But, they do have a dining room area if you want to be served instead of taking it home. I informed the staff member and was offered my money back for the pizza with hair on it. They definitely need to invest in hair nets. The pizza wasn't good at all. We were heading back from Boston and needed to grab a meal on the road, so we found this place in our research. We arrived at 7:30 PM and were told they were closing for the night. This really messed us up as we had gotten off the highway to get to this place. Amazing Greek pizza! Tons of cheese and crunchy crust! I've been getting my cheap pizza fix from George's pizza and I love every single slice. It's become my Wednesday ritual. I order a large cheese for lunch or dinner and then log that other half to work and devour it for breakfast. The pizza reheats well and the cheese and nice and thick. I love that they're not stingy on the cheese! I'm addicted to their cheap prices! For $13 I get a huge 18 inch with extra sauce. The sauce is a tad sweet for my liking but IMO its better than many of the other pizza places in the area. I love Angelina's sauce but lately I've been on a cheese overload so George's pizza has been my pizza spot. I love the atmosphere. Many of the patrons are working class. The staff seem to know many of the regulars. Each time I go in to pick up my order I see the regulars ordering their "usual". You don't see too many restaurants with such a loyal following like that these days. The parking is always packed but I have never had to wait to get a space. Customer service sucks! Cashier was rude , loud and aggressively gave change back where my change fell on floor.

We were a little hungry and figured to get a quick bite. I must say that we were disappointed. There were quite a bit of gnats where we sat. Ok. So I stopped in this afternoon for a quick bite on my lunch break. As I walked in I noticed a sign that read minimum $10 purchase for credit cards. Well it's 2018 who the hell carries cash. It is just as hard to find a good Greek Pizza House as it is to find a good Italian Pizzeria, George's serves a very good Greek pizza with a twist, it is a hybrid. Greek crust typically is a dough that is not kneaded allowed to rest overnight and formed and cooked up in a heavily greased pan,often Crisco, to crisp up the bottom crust. Greeks tend to use all purpose flour rather than high gluten and the bottom is literally fried in the pan; the remaining texture is like focaccia, light often with a slightly sweet taste. George's dough is a cross between Greek and Italian, it has a very crispy bottom; however, the dough is only slightly flaky has a little elasticity like an Italian pie but no trace of sweetness. I believe they are leaving the dough in the mixer bowl beyond the coming together stage and allowing it to knead for a short period of time. What ever they do they have a superior product! Lunch began with the house salad which had very crispy fresh lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, onions, good Mediterranean olives; the blue cheese dressing I ordered came in a 16oz. container take as much as you want, I've never seen that. The salad also came with a pair of tongs, how convenient to manage the serving process. The medium cheese pizza I ordered, half with onion, green peppers and mushrooms was notable in taste, texture and freshness of it's ingredients and toppings. Greek pies generally have a 50/50 mix of white cheddar and mozzarella this pizza leaned more toward 60/40 mozz which was fine by me cause it was dang tasty. The pizza sauce is a little thicker than Italian sauces and George's makes a very good one. Wine is available by the glass for $5 to $6 or by the bottle for $18 and you have your choice of several kinds of bottled beers. The service was excellent from start to finish extremely efficient, the young Greek girl waiting tables was one of the best waitresses I've seen there wasn't a wasted motion as she whisked through the dining area taking care of business. I couldn't help notice the cleanliness of the the waitress station, the dining area floor, the tables even the wine glasses looked as if they had been polished. George's Pizza House does many things above and beyond the ordinary and common place, this was a 4.5 star experience had the pizza dough had a slight sweetness it would have been solid stars of 5. George's goes down as one of my Hartford hidden ethnic restaurant gems!!! read more

Writing this review on behalf of my husband...since he was the one who was hunting this place down! He used to go to George's all the time when he was in school. Said it was one of the best pizzas he ever had. The put so much toppings and they make every pie fresh! They don't serve slices. The dough is thicker than hour normal pizza but the crust was really crunchy. It kind of reminds me of pizza hut. Looks like a whole in the wall, but they make great pizzas!!! read more
