This place is an icon of Fredericksburg. This has been one of my favorite pizzas ever since I was a kid and it hasn't changed one bit!

Pizza was delicious but it basically fell apart. We ate the entire pie but it was messy to eat. I love a thin crust pizza but it has got to be crispy. This was flimsy. read more

Found out it was sold to a guy hubby went to school with. Took FIL and had an absolutely amazing experience. They are true to their original roots. Owner said he secured the original recipes. Visited George's for the first time since I was a little kid! The pizza is as great as it was all those years ago! Was able to talk with the new owners, and told them I used to come here when I was a kid! The pizza was so delicious! I did a build your own with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, black olives, and garlic. It came out steamy hot, and cooked to perfection! The staff was amazing, and had great conversations with them about the history of the restaurant. And got my blow pop from the counter just like when I was a little kid! So it brought back great memories! I highly recommend visiting George's to get some delicious pizza! read more

Always been our place for great pizza. Stopped in Sunday night for pizza and found out its under new ownership. Waitress introduced herself and told us her and her husband had purchased the business and were adding some items as needed to their menu. The pizza was Great as usual but the one we ordered to take home for others needed to be cooked longer as dough was soggy but not raw! Hopefully this is learning curve, reason for 4 stars! My husband and I love this wonderful place. The pizza is superb. The crust is crispy and you won't want to leave any uneaten. We also like the sandwiches and real homemade French fries. Greek salad with dressing is also great. Now have the best carrot cake (homemade) and cheesecake which we had recently. Both really, really good. Going back Friday. read more

This place could easily earn 4 or 5 stars from me if it wasn't for their service. So let's start from the beginning. My husband and I love our pizza; don't most Americans? So we're always on the hunt for a new pizza place. Sure, there are the chains, but if I had it my way, we'd always buy local. Not only do I prefer to buy local to support my community, but generally you get better service and better quality. After living in Fredericksburg for a year and a half, we finally got around to trying George's Pizza. We went in on a weeknight and there was maybe 1 or 2 tables being occupied. The place is quaint and sits in a dark little plaza. I am old school, so I like the little curtains in the window and throwback decor that obviously hasn't been updated in years. Some find that a flaw, but I find it charming. So points for the old school decor. Moving on, we seated ourselves at a back table near the window. It was really dark inside. I will say, they could stand to light up their dining room just a little; maybe put some fake votive candles on the table if they're going for a certain ambiance. Otherwise, you literally just feel like they're trying to conserve energy. That's great, but it sucks that I had to use the flashlight on my phone to look at the menu. Music was good, so no complaints there. I didn't see a jukebox, but that would definitely add to the charm to throw one in there. The temperature of the place in the dead of winter was only slightly above the temperature outside. I was freezing! Maybe turn on the heat?! I understand that when you're cooking in the back, it gets hot, but the comfort of your customers is more important. They seemed to be pretty busy with to-go orders, and the waitress finally made her way over to see us. She wasn't rude per say, but I wouldn't say she was friendly. She got our drink orders, and we also put in for an order of fries, because I read great reviews about them. I noted to her how it was our first time there, and how excited I was to try their pizza. She didn't even break a smile. Just stared at me as she said, "Okay". I felt awkward. The drinks came out, but the fries would not come out for at least 45 minutes...for french fries!?! Of course by this time, we'd put in for our pizza. We got a medium with pepperoni and extra cheese. And it didn't come out for an additional hour. All in all, we were there well over 2 hours for a medium pizza and a side order of french fries! It's a good thing that I wasn't starving. I do understand that the pizza's are made to order and that it takes time to make...but that is just way too long! With that being said, the food was delicious! The fries were every bit as good as I'd read and the pizza was even better leftover. My husband thought the pizza was just 'okay', but I was a fan! Really good pizza! When we went up to pay, the lady making the pizza's couldn't have been more rude. Are these the owners? I don't know. All I know is, I would expect that a small 'ma and pa shop' would be a little kinder to the people walking through their doors, instead of assuming that patrons will come no matter what. I probably won't dine in ever again. It's too dark, it was too cold, service was too slow and also too cold...but I'd be willing to try a to-go order. However, if I don't experience better customer service, I won't return, whether I enjoyed their pizza or not. It's uncalled for. It doesn't take much to smile and treat your customers a little gracious. read more

Ordered a Turkey sub, nasty. Soggy, couldn't see the turkey for all of the caked on mayo and melted cheese. Best I could do was 5 bites, then threw it in the trash can and chalked it up as a loss. Wont be back. One lady did all the cooking, I think her mother is the cashier, both are slow as molasses. I waited 45 minutes for a sub and soda. there may have 10 or so customers and half were already eating, saw about 3 orders receipts on the counter before my order si no way it should have taken this long. This place is a quaint, local family-owned business that has very regular customers and delicious food. It has been around for decades, and you can observe that many people who've been coming there for years bring the younger generations of their family as well to share their tradition. As many have said, it does often take a long time for the pizza to be served, but it is worth the wait! They make the delicious pizza fresh, customized for each order, with a savory pizza sauce and thick, mouth-watering homemade dough. It is one of our favorite local spots for eating. read more

Expensive too .. $26 for a 16 inch pizza and $22 for 2 topping 16 in pizza - maybe it used to be worth it back when the pizza was good but something has definitely changed over the past few years. Hands down the best pizza I have found in Fredericksburg. The crust is light, crunchy with a slightly buttery flavor. The place has been here since 1975! It takes a while to make the pizza because they do it right. Really good mozzarella and ingredients. My new go to for pizza. read more

If you want to go to one of the oldest pizza joints in Fredericksburg for reminiscing in how it used to be this is where to go-not a thing changed in over 30 years down to the tables and floors. The appearance is old and rough. The ceiling is disgusting. Omg I wish I looked up first. They lack help. One person to wait, cook and cashier on a busy Saturday while the other doing a delivery run. It took an hour to get out pizza and we were the only other table of 2 at the time. The Chicken wings are from Fas Mart which of course was fantastic. The pizza is $25 for a large (they forgot the meatballs and shrimp was rock hard), the onions covered the lack of toppings- the best part was the crust. No one greeted me and I kindly told them I was here to pick up an online order and that I didn't know if it had gone through. We came here for the pizza. Walked in and thought we went back into time with the 1980's furniture. The restaurant was completely empty. We were hesitant in staying for lunch but wanted to give it a chance. The owner wasn't very welcoming, she seemed angry and the server kept hiding in the back kitchen after giving us our drinks and pizza. I had to get out of my seat many times while we ate to ask for things or ask them a question. We ordered the large George's Special pizza without the anchovies and shrimp. It was really really good, we even ate the crust. A massive amount of onions on top but it was actually real tasty that way. I placed a order online at 4:55 pm and I got a confirmation that it would be ready in 35 minutes. So I arrived at 5:35 pm to pick up the order and gave the lady the last name she threw her hands up and said she hasn't started it and it would be another 30 minutes. Today with the restaurants struggling due to the coronavirus you think she would be a little nicer I just spent $37 for a small pizza in a large pizza and order fries I could have went elsewhere and got more for my money. The sandwich was made to order and the last touch being that it was heated in there pizza oven to get that important crunch you need with a steak and cheese. My wife has a weight problem. I've tried different things, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Opti-fast, Medi-fast, a Hypnotist , Tony Robbins CD's, I put a lock on the refrigerator, I locked all the cookies in the trunk of my car, I even prayed on it, but nothing worked. Her favorite food is Pizza. She'll eat 12 Dijorno's, 10 Tony's, 6 little Red Barons , 3 Papa John's family specials, and wash it down with 2 bags of Crazy Bread. That was before we heard of George's. The first time I got it, I bought our usual order of 15 large, half extra cheese pepperoni, and a half double pepperoni and cheese. They told me it would be ready in an hour or so.. which was good because that gave me time to stop at Pizza Hut for a couple of stuffed crusts. So I got to George's right on time, I pulled my Astro Van almost right up to the front door,(I might add that parking is very convenient for shut ins and their caretakers/spouses.) I got the Pies and headed back home. The first thing my wife said when I got home was "Where's my food?" Thanks to the high quality pizza boxes George's uses, the pizzas we're still hot and I was relieved as I loaded her food trough. I really enjoy feeding her, it always reminds me of our first date. Somewhere between Pizza #3 or #4 my wife stopped eating and sat her recliner upright and yelled "damn that's good Pizza!" Now normally, she's on Pizza 8 or 9 before she stops, and even then it's only to take a puff off her inhaler or her CPAP machine or yell for some more Diet Pepsi. This said a lot about George's because she's traditionally been a quantity over quality kind of gal. That night she only ate the George's Pizza, the Pizza Hut and the Gino's didn't get touched. Since that day we've ordered George's probably 2-300 times. Our order is down to 7 pizzas now, no wings, no fries, no breadsticks, no cheese sticks, no jalapeño poppers, no fried pickles, or calzones or crazy bread. Some people may not understand what a big deal this is, but the ladies that come over to give my wife a bath every Thursday are saying that she's shedding way less skin in her folds now. Our 15th anniversary is in October, and I'm looking forward to taking her out on the town. Maybe we'll go to Olive Garden. It may resemble pizza, I've cooked pizza professionally, eaten it around the world this is Spotsy pie at best and there are some die hard fans but count me out. The place is dreary do you can't really tell if it's clean or not I would say not. I do not recommend them. Lousy service too. Brothers is a much better choice and the lights are on. I received a response from what appears to be either an owner or employee. I can tell you from their attitude that it only justifies why I can tell you my observations are correct. I'm glad I went with my gut - where is there any good pizza in this town anyway so why not give it a shot!? Damn was it good! Best pizza crust I've had since my grandfather owned a pizza shop in New England - their crust is like a hybrid NY/Chicago style for those who are not familiar with New England style. The toppings were quality and abundant. Compared to some of the other places in town, this pizza was phenomenal, hence the 5 star review. However, if I were in New England comparing this to a pizza that's 80/20 Mozzarella Cheddar - they might get a star knocked off. read more

As creatures of habit we've lived in this area for 2 years now and hadn't tried George's until last night. We will drive the extra couple of miles and location won't keep us as customers. My husband just came home with steak & cheese subs. Very disappointed. They are basically steak-ums, including the freezer burn, 1 slice, with toppings on the roll. We'd have done much better going to Brothers Pizza in the Chancellor Center. They use actual steak, and a lot of it as well as other fresh ingredients. Lesson learned. read more
