no matter where you go you will always run into problems, but George's music is great at taking care of them. I had bought a DJ mixer from here and when I got home, it did not work the way I wanted it to. I took it back to the shop, and getting a refund was extremely easy. This is an updated review of George's Music in Springfield, PA. If you think one incident was bad, read further for more. I am a long time customer and I have had good experiences until this past weekend (12 August 2023) when I called to order something specific. George Lanchoney (not the owner) answered the phone and had the audacity to question if I knew what I wanted and for what purpose. I said that my instructor suggested that I purchase the item. I then said that I knew George's Music does not have it in stock, so I need to order it. Again, George was rude and asked me how did I know that it was not in stock. "I looked online," I replied. At this point I became very angry and I almost told George off. I called back that day and Doug knew exactly what I wanted. Later, when I went to the store Doug took care of my order. Another manager, Bill, tried to make excuses for George's behavior, but I suggested to Bill what I really thought. An update: On 18 August 2023 I picked up the specific item from George's Music. That specific product is the Zoom R12, a multitrack recorder. Wayne noticed on the box that it has a touch screen. "Do you know how to use a touch screen," he asked me. I pulled out my iPhone. "No, that's different," he said. Really, Wayne? Really? If you have not noticed a pattern in George's, Bill's, and Wayne's approach to me, I will point it out now. I wrote above that I told Bill what I really thought about George's behavior. It becomes apparent that if I were a man, I would be treated differently by these three. And, it becomes particularly more concerning when a long time customer requests to order a very specific item, the Zoom R12 recorder, and I am told that I may not know about what I am ordering. These experiences have made me consider whether I should continue my business at this company. It is unfortunate that these three have tainted my opinion and will affect my good relationship with the other staff. Friendly sales people, have bought several things from George's over the years. Decent amount of merchandise for a smaller store. My one complaint is the way you have to give them your name as soon as you walk in. I don't need to know the sales person's name and I do not like giving mine out to a complete stranger like we have some sort of friend thing going on, like he "gets me" now that we're on a first name basis. I find it invasive and manipulative and it puts me off so much I go to other music stores whenever possible. Good store, pushy and phony "friend" approach. read more

I like George's. I gave them 3 stars. I wish I could give them 5 but even though their prices are competitive, they could be much better when it comes to either price matching or beating competitors prices. The service has always been top notch. No high pressure to buy something. More than happy to help answer any questions. Although to be honest, even though they try to price match, I almost always wind up getting a better deal either by calling Guitar Center or Musician's friend and then getting it online. That isn't a knock on George's, by the way. It's just the reality. Every single time there has either been a guitar or guitar pedal that I wanted, George's has not been able to match or beat these other places prices, which is a shame because I rather buy from George's than someone else. Another thing I should mention...they do offer guitar lessons and the instructors are wonderful. If memory serves me right they offer all types of music lessons, from Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboards, etc. With that being said, even if I haven't made any major instrument purchases there (which is unfortunate cause I really rather buy them them than someone else) , I do stop in when I need to and get strings, or some picks, get my guitars setup or my amps serviced through them. They always know just the right person for whatever I need. Need a cut bone nut...they got you covered...have some tubes going bad on an old fender twin...they got you...etc. In closing, do visit the store, as I said the service is top notch and I always recommend them to others. read more

Here's a small gripe that obviously doesn't matter to most people, so take it in context. The service is great, the availability of products is good for a medium sized store, the people seem to know the business. My only problem is I really dislike it when a sales person (or anyone I don't know) starts a conversation by forcing me to give my name. By force I don't mean aggressive, just puts me on the spot. I rarely offer my name, and I don't like it when it's required. I assume this is George's policy, to appear "friendly" but it's forced. When I'm browsing in a store I want to be left alone, and when I need help from a stranger (sales person) I don't need their name or to give mine. It puts me on the spot, like now we're buds or something. It always tempts me to give a false name just to keep my distance. If I go to the store often a relationship will develop naturally and names will be exchanged. Don't force it! OK, now you know how weird I am I guess. On all important points George's is great. I don't expect any store to match prices with online dealers, as I don't expect online dealers to match service with stores. Just leave me alone until (or if) I offer my name please. read more

A great place to go if you're looking for a guitar or music lessons. George's staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. My son wanted to take bass lessons, and they had teachers available at all times of the week, to fit his schedule and style of music. Their store isn't very large, but it's well stocked. Guitar's abound in prices ranging from $100 to several thousand, both electric and acoustic. They also have a small room with keyboards, and another with drums. Though they might not have the selection of one of the bigger music stores, like Sam Ash or Guitar Center, they are priced just as competitively. read more

This is a small to medium music store that has a plentiful offerings of music instruments. The staff is very friendly, the store is always clean, and its never any pressure to purchase anything unlike some other larger music stores. I was searching for a certain, hard to find, guitar and saw one on Reverb, sold by George's music. They were very honest in their dealings with me, offered a very good price on the guitar and shipped it the next day. I received the the guitar about a week later in perfect condition. They stayed in contact with me all through the process. They even noted a very slight, hardly noticeable flaw in the finish of the guitar and discounted the price for me. Had they not mentioned it, I would have probably never noticed. When the guitar arrived, the flaw was very, very minor. That honesty is rare in today's business world. I've always experienced very good service. George's has the same problem as any other music store. The problem being looming over customers in an attempt to up-sell them, aka "Are you gonna buy something or you just gonna touch everything?" Great experience at the store in Jan 11...here's the story... Looked around for a guitar around xmas. At Sam Ash (one hr. away) I asked the salesman if he was a player, pick me out the 2 or 3 best at $800, so I didn't have to try 25 guitars. "yep!" I get... so I ask for one he likes and he says "anyone, I can't choose for you...it's all taste" (non-sense). I try a few at $800... good... I tried one, Washburn D10, loved it... how much? $200. What?!?? Sold. Guy tries to sell me out of it... "you know the sound from that guitar is all from the strings, not the wood". Oh? What do you mean. "Well it's cause the strings are new... when you get it home it won't stay like that." Oh! REally??? So I ask him... "so you mean, what, when the strings wear out I might have to replace them to get the good sound back?". Right, he says. "Ok, well, $6 versus $600...I'll take it." Fine. Done. All is well. Three days later big buzz time. All over past 5th fret. The guitar has a truss rod but I've no need to mess with that...it's new. I take it to George's Springfield. 5 minutes they have it on the bench and attempt an adjustment. "Guitar can't be fixed...send it back...kink where the next hits the body" Never saw that before. I ask him how much... he deserves it... that was quite good service... and he says 'don't worry about it' (and I bet I've not spent $50 in the last year in that store... that was gracious). Back to Sam Ash I go. Check in at the door. "Have to return it back at guitars." Ok, I go. Wait 45 minutes. Two people, ten customers waiting. My turn. I get the same guy. I explain what happened, ask for a refund, AOK he says..."follow me, we have to go upfront to process the refund" ?!?!?!? Was I not there 45 min. ago? Processing the refund... he says "I told you when you bought this that you get what you pay for." Wow.. nice... So I think about that... ask him "so you're saying you knowingly sell bad guitars?" He says "no, but it's a $200 guitar"... me: "So..you sell them, it played fine, what do you mean... why should it break if it's $2... you sell them, why sell them if they come back?... do any of these commonly come back?" "No, first one." Fair enough, I've no way to know. But I do know I was done with those folks. A few days later I'm back at Georges...I want another WD10, I go there to play or order one. They have one...upon tuning it for me the sales guy notices a kink in the neck... 'woah, you can't have this one... kinked at the body' (!!!) I tell him my other one was and he confides to me that the Washburns are simply not like they were a few years ago and this last batch was not up to the same snuff. I tell him I read online they were bought a year ago. Oh well. He has another WD10...tunes it.. what the %^&*! Not even close to the one in Sam Ash and it's already buzzing a little up high. No way...no Washburn. We're both disappointed with them. I pick up a Taylor...great... another....great... their $700 is much better than the $400 and perhaps 95% as good as the $2500 one. So for $850, on sale, got a Taylor CE 114 and traded the gig bag for an exotic wood stand. Lovely. Well done George's Springfield. A very strong experience. read more

I started playing bass about a year ago at the age of 43. When I went to buy my first base I went to Guitar Center and Sam Ash and both places I was made to feel rediculous because of my age and lack of knowledge and experience. I walked out of both stores furious. I went to Georges music in Springfield and the salesman spent about an hour with me just going over some basics and showing me some basses that I wouldnt outgrow unless I wanted to upgrade for myself. The salesman was a bass player himself and could not have been nicer or more helpful. I now play in the worship band at my church and have bought 3 basses from them. Drew and the gang could not be any nicer or more accomodating. They have my business locked up as long as they are still there. I have no desire to walk into any other music store. If they dont have something I am looking for, they get it read more
