This was a cute restaurant. I ordered the hamburger and fries and it was decent. The service was fast , we had a large tour group and they were very fast with our orders.

This place was so cute and I thought the food was really good. I stopped here on a bus tour with Premium Tours, and it was the perfect way to end the day. To get to the pub you get to walk through the beautiful town, the pub is very warm and cozy and everyone was so nice! I had the quiche and it was delicious!

Great service! Decent food for decent prices! Their portion size for their fish and chips were very large and the fish tasted crispy, fresh and delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Their burger was okay for our palate but the fries it came with was still good!

This place is a true old timey pub experience in a small English village. A meal here is really more for the experience. I had a wonderful cider and some fish n chips. The haddock was fresh and cooked well but rather bland. My companions chose the ham and eggs and kind of felt the same lack I'd seasoning. All in all the experience and staff were lovely. Don't forget to check out the chocolate shop nearby

We loved it! We came as part of a tour, and the place was so welcoming. It was a terribly cold, wet evening, and the George was so warm, and the food and drinks set us right again. I highly recommend coming here and exploring the tiny town.

I had lunch at this pub while on a group tour of Windsor, Stonehenge, Lacock and Bath. The surrounding people in the town didn't seem very hospitable and the outside smelled like fresh manure was laid down close by in the area. However, the pub staff itself was friendly and welcoming. The food itself was very good and I heard no complaints from anyone in our group. I didn't try the beer because I normally hate it so I'm sure I would like any version. I'm not sure about the meal pricing because the cost of the meal was included in the tour package price. After our meal our given was given some historical information about the pub. We learned that at one time in the past they used a canine powered spit to roast meats. Interesting piece of history!

We stopped in here on a bus tour. Food was great and the atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for from an old English pub! Service was great for such a large tour group.

I took a countryside (Windsor, Stonehenge, Bath) tour via Premium Tours in November. Since the Roman Baths were closed for the season, the alternate was a late lunch at George Inn. Now, if you happen to be signed up for the same tour, here's some advice: Late lunch means basically dinner. Pack snacks! While on the bus, we were given a sign up sheet. We could choose between fish and chips, a traditional pie, or something else that evidently wasn't memorable. Since it was a Friday and our guide recommended it, I went for the fish and chips. For beverages, I requested a "pint of beer." Our group was rather large (like, 55 people large). I ended up at a table with someone from New Zealand and two ladies from Pennsylvania who most definitely thought I was a child. Oh - now I remember - the other plate was pasta. I had my fish and the two ladies had their pies way before the other girl had pasta. At first I planned to politely wait to eat until the two ladies told me they wouldn't have waited for me so, please, eat. K. My fish was pretty good and the beer was exceptional. Since I am me, when I walked up to the counter to pay, I asked what beer I had. The bartender was so please to tell me all about the brewery that was in the same area. I wished I had been on my own so I could've tried some other local beers, but unfortunately it was time to move on. George Inn is a really cute little pub in Lacock that is perfect for groups. They did an excellent job feeding everyone quickly and happily.

We ate here only because our bus stopped here as part of a tourist contracted tour. That says it all. ATMOSPHERES: Quaint restaurant in the very picturesque town of Lacock. BEVERAGES: Local draft beer - Horrible. Warm & flat. We sent it back because we figured it was a bad pour. Not the case. The second one tasted the same. And the bartender wasn't pleased of our displeasure either. FOODS: Fish & chips - The fish was overcooked and the batter had no flavor. We tried to doctor it up with the limited number of difficult-to-open packets of English mayo (yuck,) mustard & ketchup to no avail. The frozen Van De Kamps variety tastes worlds better. SERVICE: The servers were friendly and quick, however the bartender was not friendly at all. OVERALL: Terrible beer & food. We were part of a tour group, so this restaurant was pre-selected for us. If you're going to tour Bath after this stop in Lacock, wait to grab a bite to eat there.

This is the little pub we ate at coming back from our day trip to Stonehenge, Windsor Castle, and Bath. Food was extremely average. Mine was two sausages, a few steak fries, and a little portion of peas. Everything was just ok, that's about all I can say.

Great pub the food was home comfort, it was a nice stop after beings the road for 3hours . The staff was friendly and the food was served fast. I would definitely come back again.

My husband and I popped in here while visiting Lacock and just the fact that it was built in 1361 blows my mind. We were eating and drinking in a place that's been around for 655yrs! Let that register for a second. They had a nice selection of beers and even had 2 vegetarian options which they offered to make vegan for us! We weren't disappointed eating here - just come to say you sat in a 655yr old establishment. Plus we grabbed a table in the barn, fireside which was perfect for a cold day.

Three stars because this village and atmosphere is lovely, but the food not the best. I came for a group bus tour, so maybe it's a bit different service and selections. We had a choice of four dishes, and I chose the cottage pie. This was advertised as a minced beef pie with mashed potato crust and veggies. The portion felt a bit small and I guess I was expecting more of a pie like a Shepard's pie. Instead it felt like crusty old mashed potatoes with gravy and some minced beef on top. And a side of underdone carrots and some peas that were luke warm. I didn't expect it to be the greatest, but not a fan either. It was a sad looking plate. The draw is the history and age of the place and village. Maybe a better place for a drink.

This place is a little gem, well worth the detour from Tiverton if you are passing through Devon or…read moreSomerset. The staff were really friendly and welcoming when we arrived and encouraged us to try some locally sourced ciders and gin. There were three menu options - a la carte, an extensive specials menu and a set three course weekend lunch. The food has a fine dining feel in a relaxed, casual setting. The duck two ways was a real highlight.

The UK is literally littered with country pubs, and in many cases it's sad to say, but…read moreappropriately phrased perhaps, that what they serve up as food is pretty rubbish. The phrase 'home cooked' seems to have been superceded my the concept of 'van delivered' all too often. Thankfully that's not the case at the Five Bells in Clyst Hydon. It's one of the very first places I visited when I moved to Devon many years ago, as a friend recommended it, and I've been returning ever since. It's the kind of place you turn to where you just know you won't be disappointed, a foodies rock in an otherwise tempestuous chain pub ocean. The pub's one many awards over the years, so I won't go on about how tasty the food is, but I will say that one of the nice things I've always liked about it is that they are still experimenting. Sure you can get your english staples there like steak & kidney pudding, game pate, treacle pudding, etc., but also other treats such as mediterranean tarts. The chef here is one of those increasingly rare beasts, someone who really knows what to buy and how to cook it. It's not some kind of reinvented gastro pub either - it's just a good pub with good food - why is that so hard to manage anymore? I should say they also stock a fine range of drinks, including the Otter beers, once of Devon's best breweries. Then there's the location and the pub itself. Buried deep in the heart of Devon, near some great woods (with some interesting mushrooms to hunt), wonderful gardens outside and an interior that just seems to keep on going, full of nooks and crannies, games to play, old books to read and much more. I once took a friend and his (very small) three girls for lunch there and the owners and staff didn't blink an eye. Sure they made sure we were tucked around the corner a bit but the girls didn't mind and all loved the food! If that isn't enough to tempt you then how about the fact that Clyst Hydon itself has it's very own lido just round the corner from the pub? Just check the Google map and you'll see it just next door. All in all this place is a gem. A little hard to find perhaps but if you can find it, then you deserve it. P.S. There's a two course lunch menu at £7.95 available from Monday - Thursday and Saturday. This is my favourite as I never know what I'm getting till I turn up at the pub.
