This was my third visit here. The first two times I ordered juice, and on each visit I was greeted with a noticeable attitude. The products themselves are average at best, especially considering the price point. On this visit, I ordered an açaí bowl and asked if they offer a military or first responder discount, as I'm a veteran, flight medic, previous firefighter and successful business owner. The response I received felt dismissive and almost offended that I would even ask. What the staff member didn't know is that I make a point to ask this question everywhere I go--not because I need a discount, but because I appreciate businesses that offer it. I'm fortunate to be in a position where I don't rely on discounts, and when one is offered, I typically add that amount to the tip as a way of paying it forward to the staff. It's my way of supporting those who serve others, especially those who may still be in financially demanding stages of life. This was my second or third visit to Genuine Fresche in Tempe and I don't know why I gave it that many chances. The only reason I came back this time was to avoid dealing with campus traffic to get to Nekter which, in hindsight, would have been worth it. The first thing that hits you when you walk in is not "fresh," it's nail salon fumes from next door. It's immediate and overwhelming, and not exactly what you want when you're about to eat something marketed as fresh and healthy. It definitely made me question whether those smells are seeping into the ingredients or...impacting the mood of their staff. The vibe inside is not good. There is no music, just the sound of a blender and employees openly complaining. At one point, I got to listen to a full conversation about how they don't get tips from DoorDash orders and how the prices are high. Not exactly subtle, and definitely not something customers should be hearing. The cashier (brown hair, clearly having a rough day or just overwhelmed by the fumes) took my order in a rush, as if I had a long line of patrons behind me. I did not. There were four customers in the restaurant the entire time I was there. There were two young women working (I'd guess college-aged), and while I'm sure they're employees, they did not seem like they wanted to be there at all. One brought food out wearing what looked like pajamas and open-toed shoes, which didn't exactly inspire confidence. And yes, like everywhere these days, there's a tip option at checkout. I'm happy to tip when there's good service, even at a counter. This was not one of those times. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I ordered the chocolate peanut butter bowl and ended up eating it in my car. It was fine. Not bad, not great. Just okay. Not good enough to justify the price or the overall experience. Between the chemical smell, the lack of professionalism, and the overall "we hate it here" energy, I would definitely recommend you go elsewhere. read more

I stopped in after a Sunday morning dance class wanting a protein shake to get me through my errands. I googled "smoothies near me" and Fresche popped up. I walked in and was greeted. I saw the basic menu on the wall and said I was looking for a protein shake that was fruity over chocolate. They seemed to have a lot of chocolate sections but only the strawberry cream as fruity. The girl didn't seem interested in trying to help me really as she never asked if it was my first time there or offer any direction. I ordered the strawberry cream adding B12 and multi vitamin. As she went back to make it I noticed a full menu on the counter that showed what each shake had, etc. would have been helpful before ordering. Also would have been helpful to know all their smoothies can be protein shakes, so my selection wasn't so limited. I was also a bit taken back by the price. The shake I ordered only came in large, which was 24oz. With the 2 additions my total was $14.59. I think the price wouldn't have been as painful if the shake had actually been palatable. It was awful. Honestly tasted like dirt. However, since I paid $14.59 and I had errands to run I choked it down. I wasn't there long enough to really notice the ambiance of the restaurant. What I love about açaí bowls is that it's basically dessert for breakfast! Genuine Freshche was my first açaí experience being the closest to my house! I haven't had too many other açaí places so I am by no means an expert! I like that there are 3 different sizes, price correlating with size. I don't like that they don't use fresh pineapple (canned), especially after advertising about how "fresh" they are. It's also odd given the rest of their fruit is fresh. After the demise of the Argentinian sandwich shop here, I wondered what business would take the place in this location. I was naturally intrigued when I found out that there would be a smoothie and acai bowl place opening up in its stead. I think this is a great location for acai bowls, since Sprouts is just a few steps away, bringing in the more health-conscious crowd. I went in with high hopes of getting a healthy, fruitful bowl. There are quite a few bowls to choose from, some of them fruity, others more dessert-like, with peanut butter and chocolate. I opted for a fruitier bowl, getting the tropical. This was my first time trying an acai bowl, and it was quite tasty. The bottom layer was a smooth, thick acai puree/sorbet-like mixture, which tasted berry-like. There was crunchy, sweet granola layered in between the acai and the tropical fruit (Banana, mango, and pineapple), with large, thin shaved pieces of coconut completing the bowl. The granola itself was a high quality mixture, containing ingredients such as flax seed. The bowl was a nice mixture of textures and of tastes. I ordered a small (About $5), and it definitely filled me up! Service was very friendly, and they offer a points reward system which uses your e-mail to keep track of your purchases. The interior is pretty bare-bones, and it seems like they kept much of the same color scheme as the previous owner.
